Seclusion....welcomed? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Location. It is located outside of Abilene a couple of miles and once you get there, you drive back in the park a ways to get to the course, which adds great isolation, peace, and tranquility on the course.

Obstacles. Many trees (and strategically placed tee pads and baskets) offer a good challenge on this nine hole course.

Navigation and Layout. This course is super easy to navigate and the mix of short to long holes is great.

Upkeep. There are restrooms out there and plenty of trashcans. The entire park was very well mowed and taken care of. Very clean and no trash on the ground.

Cons:

Apparently you have to track down the park manager if you are going to be there after 6pm to get a permit. Which, would be okay if the manager had a station there, or contact information, but you are just given his name on a sign and told to contact him. I don't know how you would do this unless you know the guy, or have internet service out there and can look him up and contact him through the internet.

Tee pads are pretty small, but the are level with the ground and doesn't cause too much of a problem on many holes.

This park does not seem very welcoming. Before I ever saw a tee pad or basket I saw 5 different signs that said, "private property, no trespassing, violators will be prosecuted," etc.

Other Thoughts:

Fun course once you get out to it. It is definitely worth the drive, whether you are in Abilene and haven't played much before, or you are passing through. Take the extra few minutes to get out to this park, don't let the signs deter you, keep driving deep into the park, and have yourself a fun time on a cool and isolated nine-hole course.

Pros:

Easy to followed even without signs. Great piece of land. Very well kept. Very serene. Cement tee pads.

Cons:

Poor baskets. No elevation. No signs. Needs 9 more holes. The temp 9 at the abilene shootouts gave the course more diversity.

Other Thoughts:

This course needs updated with baskets and signs. Bring your bug spray. 9 more holes will be great but they need to add more diversity to the course.

Pros:

Parking is right next to the first hole and there is a nearby restroom and shelter. The area seemed very well kept and free of trash. The cement tees were is pretty good shape and had the hole number and par on them. The park has a quiet, peaceful feel and was very relaxing to play among the very tall, mature trees and along the creek. The flow was logical and easy to find your way around although there weren't any tee signs or maps available. Most of the holes provided good obstacles that called for some different shots and fun lines, but not really any risk or mental factors come into play here.

Cons:

No elevation, no tee signs, maps, or distances marked. There was one hole with a shelter conflict that might be unsafe if it was occupied. Not really much rough or risky shots. For me it was a little out of the way, but is a nice couse for the locals considering it's a pretty small town.

Other Thoughts:

This course is great for just getting away and clearing your mind. It had some good technical play without the risk of losing anything if you can stay away from the creek. I'll definitely play here again if im passing through, it was a very pleasent experience and I had quite a bit more fun than I expected.

BROWN MEMORIAL 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 5, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is one of the most scenic, pleasant of disc golf courses. Situated in the private Brown Memorial Park (open to the public), it is a huge chunk of land with many mature trees, well manicured grass, tucked back away from everything, with a river running through to boot.
It plays silky smooth, just like a traditional golf course. There are enough trees and other obstacles however, to keep things challenging.

Cons:

Although you can sail one into the woods or river on the periphery, there is little chance of most errant shots getting you into serious trouble. Although fairway grass is high, keeping rollers down, roughs are non-existent.

Other Thoughts:

Picturesque, and very mind-clearing. A nice break from the insanity that can be courses of the obstacle-ridden, claustrophobic variety. One for the zen archer.

Pleasant 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 1, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Cement tees, no rough, no hazards, mowed grass, tall mature cottonwoods, good solid hole design, easy to play.

Cons:

Semi-private on a boy scout camp, might not always be open to play. No lengths listed. Only 9 holes.

Other Thoughts:

Nicer than expected, tests long range accuracy often with a variety of shots. Plenty of trees yet no rough stuff.
