Pros:

Good elevationsSome challengeWell maintained

Cons:

MosquitoesPars too easyHoles overlap or too closeDanger to pedestrians and cars

Other Thoughts:

Better than the old 9 hole course, but layout has several throws too close to other holes. Some throws are at the street and sidewalk. I've seen several cars and pedestrians hit. Still a good course...for DL.

Detroit Lakes fun but needs a tune up 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 6, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Fun little course always tear it up when I am there visiting family. Concrete tees. Baskets in good shape and the park is well maintained. The 18 hole layout is fun. I like the update.

Cons:

Saw ground markers for a back nine but no map or post marking them. There is a lot of room to stretch this course a redesign would help esp since the next closest course is 25 miles away

Other Thoughts:

Nice 18 hole layout with good flow and shot availability. The 18th tee is a little hairy since you're aiming at the parking lot shooting downhill I have over shot and hit cars on my tee off.

Up and Down the Hills 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 9, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice Mach II baskets and concrete tee pads.
Signs display everything including where the next tee is relative to the hole you're playing.
The park itself is full of activity.
Holes 3,4, and 5 have great elevation changes.

Cons:

Hole 2 and hole 6 are worthless.
Baskets could be strategically placed in better, more challenging locations given the vast number of trees in such a small area.

Other Thoughts:

Expierienced players won't have much of a challenge with this one but its still a fun course for casual throwing.
Course was easy to find and there's plenty of parking spaces.
I also noticed a few broken chain links on some of the baskets.

short but sweet 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 6, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

nice tee pads and baskets, lots of mature trees, lots of elevation. Really nice signs

Cons:

short. only 9 holes

Other Thoughts:

Really fun little course, kinda short and only 9 holes, but not much around it, and really good for the space they had. lots of elevation. Probably a 2.5 or a 3 star course if there are other nicer courses around, but a solid 3.5 for the area

Good Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 4, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Altitude changes and a fair amount of trees without any tunnel shots

Cons:

Hole lengths

Other Thoughts:

With the exception of a few holes that are too easy this is a course that is well worth playing. The two downhill holes play very nicely, and a few holes on flat ground dotted with trees also play well. There is also one uphill hole that requires a nice shot for bird. Baskets are in good condition and the tees are surrounded by woodchips. Best 9 hole course I have played.

Surprisingly good 9 hole 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 26, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Good use of elevation and limited space.
- Good signs/tees/pins/etc
- Great location in a fun town next to a beautiful lake. What more could you want?

Cons:

- 9 holes
- Pretty short, everything is a 3 despite whatever the signs may say.
- Park/public facilities are a bit left of hole 3... which is a nice, technical, hyzer shot down a hill. A disc could kill somebody here if its crowded and you get a bad skip.

Other Thoughts:

This is one of those "what if" courses. Like "what if" some of the holes had just a bit more length. And "what if" they just had a bit more room so they could make a proper 18 hole.

If you are in the area, definitely stop and play a few rounds. This is a fantastic 9 hole course.

Pros:

-Nice elevation changes
-Beautiful park
-Excellent signage showing hole location and directions to next tee box
-Concrete tee boxes

Cons:

-Course is only 9 holes is pretty short

Other Thoughts:

There are numerous par 4 holes which would be par 3 holes on any other course. If you've never gotten an eagle before this is the course to get your first.

Good Beginner Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 22, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- A lot of variety on length, trees, and elevation
- No/Short Wait on holes
- Close Parking
- Well Mowed

Cons:

- A lot of trash, no trash cans
- A lot of people just hanging out and walking around
- Not a lot of really long holes
- Par is really easy

Other Thoughts:

I played this yesterday and it was a fun play. The holes give some good variety, but the pars are way to easy. We all got under par for the round and Eagles were pretty common. I suggest playing everything as a par 3 to make it better. The course could use a couple more longer holes and a lot of cleaning. The course was busy but we never had to wait for anyone before we teed off. It was very good for my beginner friends. If you are decent this course will be fun, but not too challenging.

Fun 30 mins! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 27, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Lots of ace run potential....I nabbed hole 2 w my putter a few years back. Good elevation changes. Lots of skip action on hard ground.

Cons:

Lots of D.L. riff-raff hoodlums hanging around. Could be made more challenging and would be very easy to design at least 3 more holes (with a lil reconfiguring.).
A few times there has been high traffic w people not really discing...more like "party walking, chucking a disc into trees and swearing" types.

Other Thoughts:

Build a new 18 or 27 hole course and charge $5 in the vast sourrounging area!!! D.L. Deserves a championshIp course

Enjoyable 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 10, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice Mach II baskets
Great use of elevation changes
Many Opportunities to take Ace runs

Cons:

Some poor layout choices (some early tees very close to previous basket, hole nine finishes a little ways from first tee - although I like the line from basket 9 back to basket 1)

Other Thoughts:

Enjoyable course, easily accessible to beginners, and can provide a bit of a challenge for more advanced players as par 2s. Mostly straight and natural left curves, although some holes can be taken left to right for those RHBH players to throw anhyzer drives. Good 2 disc course with a stable midrange and putter. Nice to have open grass fairways, well maintained. Great signs for first time players.

Nice recreational course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 31, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is a very nice recreational course that anyone who can walk hills can play. Set in a beautiful, well-maintained city park. Good mix of uphill and downhill shots. You can practice every shot (except for a big bomber) on this course.

Cons:

Not a difficult course. The average player should be under par every round. But, you could make it more challenging by dropping par on each hole by one shot.

Other Thoughts:

Watch for the left turn to hole 3. I missed it the first time.

Pros:

This course has a good atmosphere with Good elevation change for a MN course....Good Baskets with nice Tee Pads....Most Tee Signs are In, with Directions to the next Hole's Tee Pad so the course is easy to navigate.....Located in the Heart of Minnesota!

Cons:

As any MN player knows.....When you are near water the mosquitos are bad....And this course borders, the Great, Big Detroit Lake so the Bugs are Annoying....Most holes are short in distance!

Other Thoughts:

This course Poses a fun Quick Round in the Heart of MN.......If you are a camper/fisherman/outdoors man the surrounding area will provide for you. This is Minnesota so the fishing is great and in the Detroit Lakes area you will not be disappointed....The course is well thought out for the size of the Park and poses unique elevation for this area..... If in the area it is worth the stop!

Very cool 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 30, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great location and fine utilization of the space and set up of the park. This course is built on/around a nice sized hill. Several holes feature up or downhill shots. Nice amount of woods too. Well maintained. Great little 9.

Cons:

Seems to be a bit of a 'hang out' for the local kids. You may wanna be careful about where you park.

Other Thoughts:

Beautiful little wooded course about a block off the beaches of Big Detroit Lake. What more can you ask for?

Not bad 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 16, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Nicely plotted in a well kept park. Lightly wooded, not too many trees but enough to influence where you place your shots. Pretty good amount of elevation change.

Should be challenging enough for new players and some intermediate players.

It's a short walk from a beach,concert hall,waterslide, Zorbas, and other venues.

Cons:

There are no holes that are memorable and there is a lot of traffic through the park at times. Not challenging for advanced players and some of the better intermediate players.

Cons:

This is one of the older courses in MN and is quite a bit easier with the new technology in today's discs.

Detroit Lakes 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 11, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Beautifully manicured park within the city park of Detroit Lakes. There is an excellent use of elevation change throughout the course. Flows very well, easy to get from hole to hole. Mature trees also are well used making use of a variety of shots, long and short.

Cons:

Course can become very busy. With the city of this size, another nine would be helpful and workable in the same location.

Other Thoughts:

Very fun course to play. There is a good chance for an ace on this course because of its relatively short holes. (most holes are reachable on a good first drive) Our group had a hard time leaving! Definitely worth a stop.

Nice Course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 4, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

The course is very well maintained. There is a variety of uphill and downhill shots. The tees are cement. All the holes have plenty of short grass around them, so losing a disc is nearly impossible.

Cons:

The baskets are a little smaller than most. The course can become busy at times.

Other Thoughts:

After a round or two of discing on a hot day, head to the beautiful beach across the street.
