A Vacationer's Review of Easterlin Park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 23, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Quick Play: The holes are fairly short, and closely-spaced together, so it doesn't take long to play a round here. We had a group of five and it took under two hours.

Mix of Holes: The front 9 is largely open, with some technical elements mixed in. The back 11 is largely technical, with one open hole to finish by the parking lot.

Ace Runs: They are possible here, even if the trees don't seem to allow any gaps. I actually got my first ever ace here on Old Hole 18 (new hole 19).

Shaded: Most of the course (but especially the back half) has adequate shade, which is really nice when dealing with the hot Florida sun. We played in the middle of the day and it wasn't bad.

Cart/Walking Friendly: It's flat and grassy/sandy. Carts are a breeze. Walking is a breeze. Just don't trip on roots and watch out for animals.

Wildlife: There are plenty of iguanas and birds in the park that don't affect play but did make for an experience I don't typically get in Tennessee.

Cons:

Wildlife: Even though I just mentioned the iguanas and birds in a positive light, I do want to mention the spiders in a negative light. THEY. ARE. HUGE. When walking around, be aware of where the spider webs are (typically above head-height, but still). I don't know if they are poisonous, but I also don't want to find out.

No Distance: There really isn't anything longer than 300' here. They don't really have much space for long holes. Some holes get down below 150' even.

No Elevation: It's Florida. If you want hills, you're in the wrong state.

Navigation: It is typically good, but it can be a little tricky at times, especially with the newly added holes (now 12 and 20). Some holes are pretty close to each other, so checking out the number on the basket is critical (15 and 19).

Baskets Near Fences: There are several cases where a basket is near a fence that has a "do not climb" sign on it (10, 13, 17, 18). Just be aware of the barriers before throwing something over the fence and having to retrieve it.

Water: I'm not a huge fan of water to begin with (I don't like losing discs), but when alligators are involved, I don't mess with it. We skipped a couple holes (1, 4, 5) to make sure the lake didn't come into play. It's probably not an issue for more advanced players, but we had some beginners and didn't want to risk losing a disc in the lake.

Other Thoughts:

I like this course. We vacation in Ft. Lauderdale almost every year so I get to play it every year or two. It's a fun little course. Some of the cons I listed are probably not an issue to anyone local, but I wanted to give an out-of-town perspective in case anyone else is looking to make a stop during vacation.

Easterlin Park Is The Prototypical Florida Jungle Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 2, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

This plays as a recreational level with lots of Ace runs throughout. You'll be treated to a plethora of 150' to 250' holes, all of which are pretty tight and technical. What they all have in common is the enjoyment factor. I enjoyed all of them and would love to be able to play here often.

At the start is a kiosk complete with course map. You probably won't be needing it as the navigation is mostly instinctive. There' s a practice basket here. The baskets are Discraft models with a orange # on top. The pads are good sized concrete and the tee signs are set high and come with the clever little bag holder and the next tee indicator. It's hardly needed on this course.

# 1 is a simple little recreational hole, 215', that somewhat carries over the lake twice. Your initial water carry is probably a 100' and then you can easily avoid the second water carry. # 4 is another water shot, only 195', but you will probably hyser out over the water. If I remember correctly, there were some plants that could knock your disc down and into the drink. There are a couple of white poles for retrieving water logged discs. The water could come into play on both 5, 6 and 7 although they can all be avoided. But players have been known to grip lock their throw once in a while. The back nine is basically a hyser Ace-fest through the jungle. Enjoy those Ace runs.

Cons:

It's a recreational course and won't provide any challenge for most experienced players. But us crummy, old players will love it to death.

Good chance out could splash a disc here.

Less of a chance of losing one in the jungle.

There are probably two holes where you could hyser one over the fence. There are signs telling you not to climb the fence and there is one place where players have obviously climbed the fence.

Other Thoughts:

This is like a miniature version of prototypical Florida jungle combined with water course. I doubt that there are many players down hereabouts who haven't had the opportunity to play this type of course. Myself, I like them although I end up totally and completely wimping out on the water holes. I'm traveling and can't afford the hassle of replacing a disc.

Great Technical Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 8, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

+Good signage indicating distance, par, and normal lines (RHBH) off the tee.
+Long poles around the water holes to retrieve discs within 3-5 feet from the banks.
+Course flows easily from one hole to the next, including the alternate holes (11A and 18A).
+Players have to rely on more technical, controlled shots versus distance on most of the holes, especially on the back 9.
+Front office area has a vending machine for new discs (price ranges vary) and will contact you if your disc is returned.

Cons:

-Not a left-handed friendly course (most courses in South FL are not, though).
-The park is by the railroad (Tri-Rail) track, which runs by the area occasionally and distract non-seasoned players.
-Hole 17 is right next to aforementioned train track and poses a big risk of losing your disc over the fence.

Other Thoughts:

I like playing this course on the run, especially because it is shorter than most of the other South Florida courses and doesn't take as much time to put in 18+. My discs seem to love the copious amount of trees on the back nine. However, this course does help in learning form and control, especially when working to fine-tune your approach game.

The Best Course in South Florida 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 11, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced course. Course flows easily from hole to hole. Short to long shots form each hole, ranging from 175 to 350 feet. The course is mostly wooded, highlighted by a pond which articulates several hole positions offering several shot selections, whether forehand or backhand. (1, 4, 5, 6, 7). The course is frequented by several local and seasonal players whom call this course home. League on Sundays at 10:00 AM EST, Random Doubles. Best way to draw one of the local Professionals' and help your game soar. A favorite of mine and soon to be yours!

Lost Discs are returned to the Park Office, they will notify you of your property. Please properly mark your discs.

All discs must be picked up at the Park Office.

Cons:

Bathroom amenities are only available between tee-pads 6,8, 18 and Gumbo (20). minus a half star.

Other Thoughts:

Great community of athletes. Well organized. Always Fun and Enjoyable.

Good but not great 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 19, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Quick to play in a small group. Alot of challenge in a small package I believe it's a 20 hole course. Water shots, wooded finesse shots, a couple wide open shots.

Cons:

A few REALLY obstructed shots, limited parking, long fences to lose your discs over.

Other Thoughts:

This park can be played fast. It's a good park and I enjoy playing it. It has forced me to learn how to play better. The front end is pretty open but sports a water hazard that can eat your discs if you land it deep, keep it close to the edge and you will probably be able to locate it as it doesn't get deep quickly. Much of the course starts in the back end of the park I think it starts at hole 9 and ends on a drive back to the main parking lot on hole 20. The back end is unforgiving, it has coined the nickname treesterlin for a reason. Miss a gap and you will hit a tree harder than a lumberjack. There is a decent amount of foot traffic but most of it stays out of the way in the designated picnic areas that are pretty much out of the way from the fairways. Play it enough and you will run into a clueless park patron wearing headphones completely oblivious that you are trying to play. Most people that play are not squids and will return a found disc to the main office so there is a fair chance you will get a lost disc back.

Good signage to indicate next tee placement. Well kept (except hole 17 needed to be mowed). The course will test your accuracy as you transition into the back nine. Nicely poured concrete pads.

Cons:

Not a very long course. You will use a lot of your mid range discs as well as your putters.

Pinball Wizard 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 3, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

This slightly different Broward County course offers a more technical kind of experience. One set of tees and two pin placements on most holes (short and shorter) make the tech shots a little more forgiving if you get a bad tree bounce. The fun comes into play near the end of the course when the fairways get overrun with trees creating some fun pinball style bounces that could be beneficial and even lead to an ace! The shade is also nice. This is a good summer course for Florida.

Cons:

The course is a little tight and set in a heavily used park. Some of the fairways are a little close to each other.

Hole 1 was a double water carry with trees in your face, forcing a low throw or some other kind of local route that I couldn't see. Rough starting hole! Might want to bring some floating discs.

Navigation may be a little tricky for 1st timers. I recommend getting a map, or better yet, playing a round with some of the friendly locals.

Other Thoughts:

Another solid Broward County course that pairs well with the Tradewinds course for a fun day of DGing.

Unless you have telekinesis, your discs will hit trees here. Bring your sturdy discs to this course!

worth checking out. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 28, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Fun course with cool tropical plants and trees.

Iguanas running all over the place.

Scenic and not far from the beach or city stuff if that's your thing.

Cons:

Some uninspired holes that play back and forth across a field and a few that play along a fence line.

Looks like it would be crowded on a weekend with other park users.

Other Thoughts:

I stayed at the camp ground in my rv and played two rounds. Overall an entertaining course and there is camping with full hookups. I'd say it's worth checking out if you are in the area.

Good Technical-Wooded Course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 24, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Wooded course in south Florida!
- Tight lines off the tee; the course demands percision accuracy.
- Good mix of both hyser and anhyser lines.
- Water adds a good (but not impossible) challenge for 4 holes and then the rest are wooded.
- Plastic poles with bolt at each water hole allow for assisted disc retrieval.
- Good map at the start; signs, tee pads, and pins all in good condition.
- Clean and very well maintained with bathrooms and trash cans.
- Friendly/helpful locals!

Cons:

- Course not ideal for beginners because of the narrow fairways and tight wooded lines.
- The course is short; none of these holes will test your arm (for distance).
- Close fence line on a couple holes presents a problem; the fence along the 17th hole is also barbed.
- Possibility to throw near campsites and walkers.

Other Thoughts:

Bottom line: It is a wooded course in SOFLO so you got to check it out. Hole 18 was my favorite because of the beautiful trees and incredibly tight fairway. This is a great course to work on the timing of your release.

This is a good technical course, which compliments Tradewinds since it is a big open course only 15 minutes away. Playing both Easterlin and Tradewinds in the same day made for a great day of DG!!! I will be back to Easterlin soon.

Pleasant Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 17, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Clean
Well maintained
Bathrooms and water fountain available.
Good mix of left and right shots
benches at each tee pad
Trash Bins everywhere
Concrete pads
lots of tight technical shots through the woods
Locals were nice
Beautiful trees and wildlife

Cons:

Course design had people throwing towards one another several times.
Water challenge has no build up, it consumes most of the first 5 shots.
Water is hard to deal with if you have to, even rollers vanish in it..VERY murky. No gators though so people were giving it a go.
Finding some pads is not that easy but the course is so tight that you will eventually find it.
Tee pads were close to the previous pad's basket, causing concern.

Other Thoughts:

No Open Bomb shots (You don't really even need a driver here)

This course has really short shots (250' avg?), so you wind up finishing it faster than you expect and you'll want to play another round because you have so much time left. An hour away from my house, so I may only visit here for events.

Overall, It was a pleasant course. No Epic holes really, just nice short shots that sometimes require some finesse and a few over the water that require a little more oomph.

Easterlin 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 12, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

It's a short 20 hole course with several holes offering two tee pads and rotating pin positions. Pond provides water challenge on holes 1, 4-7, while the rest of the course (save 8) is rather tight. Good mix of left/right turning holes and some straight fairways that are tight. Baskets catch well and are in good shape. If you lose a disc in the water, chances are good you'll get it back, locals dive every few weeks and turn found plastic into park office. Just a nominal county park fee on weekends and holidays to enter. Plays quick. A single can get through 20 holes in probably an hour.

Cons:

Unless you're playing the long pads and come on a day when everything is in the long, you can leave those bomber discs in the car. Not necessarily a big con. 17 has a fence that is a no-fly zone (not just OB, but once it crosses over the fence you are out)...while I see the need for it to be that way, just keep that in mind...some holes play a little close to some picnic areas and a playground...be careful playing those holes. No elevation change (but come on now, it's south Florida...)

Other Thoughts:

Good course with lots of shade for those hot and humid south Florida summer days. Easterlin carries its own little niche in the group of Broward County park disc golf courses...it's no destination course, but it's worth your time if you have it, especially cause it can be played quick.

Good course, great locals 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 4, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Good mix of open and wooded holes
-Holes that bend left and right
-Active local crowd of friendly, dedicated golfers
-Color score card and map available at entrance
-Almost every hole has a fair line
-Nice use of water and trees to add challenge to an otherwise flat plot of land
-Plenty of birdie opportunities if you hit your lines
-It's pretty easy to find discs in the rough
-No fire ants, unlike other courses I've played in FL
-While there is only one tee per hole, each hole has multiple pin positions and they supposedly change them regularly.

Cons:

-It's pretty easy to lose discs several of the water carries.
-Navigation would have been hard if I hadn't played my round with a really nice group of locals. I can't detail this because I was chauffeured from hole to hole by four great guys.
-The fairways are a little too tight on a couple of holes, but this course is about accuracy, not distance. And you don't get punished that badly for missing your line.

Other Thoughts:

I was in the area visiting family. I showed up at 8AM on a Sunday and there saw one group of 10 people and was quickly invited to join another group of 4. I had a fantastic time playing with Dan, Jake, David, and Paul. Great guys and they took great care of me. Hanging with them made navigation a breeze, they showed me the lines on every hole, and helped me look for my disc that went in the lake.

Most of the holes are about 250 feet. Trees and water carries add challenge to the course, which is a nice change of pace compared to Tradewinds. I really like the flow of the course and how there are no long walks between holes. It's scenic and the shade is very pleasant. The cypress roots are really cool. The $1.50 I spent was a total bargain. This makes for a great local course and certainly worth a 30 minute drive for someone in the area. It's right off I-95 and anyone looking to play should make the trip.

This course could easily reach a 3.5 if navigation was improved. The tee signs are good, but it's hard to find the next hole and see some of the baskets.

Cypress sanctuary course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 25, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Interesting little 18 hole course, perfect for playing multiple rounds in a day as well to disc down and leave the drivers at home.  This course requires and rewards finesse over distance. 2 pin placements on each hole,  layout rotates once a month. Most holes are in the 150-250 range depending on pin placement. Easterlin is on the shorter side, but the tight cypress trees force concentrations and planning lines before each throw. In the last year or two there was a redesign of park roads slightly changing the layout. First hole is one of the changes and IMO the one I see most people going into the drink. Tee off to left of practice basket, really fun throw. It plays over water, a small peninsula, and water again. Option to go for it or lay up to next peninsula for the easy 3 (and no lost plastic). I really like how the water hazards are incorporated here, with each tempting the throw over but also giving you a fair "safer" route over land. Hole 6 is a perfect example, with two distinct options. RHBH hyzer out over the water or a longer RHFH out around guardian plams.  Holes 8-11 are all mid/putter shots with a few possible ace runs if your on point. Especially 10, basket is next to OB chain link fence that substitutes for a nice backboard. 16 in B is one of my favorites at easterlin, very tight lines and lets you use a fairway driver off the tee. Pin is nestled back in the corner of fence.

Great local crowd, always friendly & welcoming to new comers.

Perfect for FL summer heat/sun, thick cypress canopy gives valuable shade during rounds.

Very little "rough" & only a few places to deal with the jungle in the event of a poor throw.

Trash and recycle bins throughout the 18

Cons:

IMO some holes/fairways are too close to each other, 6-7 comes to mind. If you throw in the pond chances are you probably won't see that plastic again, very murky/brown water. No pin placement info at tee areas

Other Thoughts:

I'm always jealous of the locals and all their custom carts/strollers

There is a store at the corner of powerline that sells disc.

$1.50 on weekends & holidays -free all other days

Thursday random draw dubs round @ 5pm

Sunday random draw dubs round @ 10am

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 27, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

It's hard not give this course credit for offering something that no other course does in the area. This course has trees. It forcers discers to throw lines. After a full day in South Florida, this was very much needed. I can appreciate a mostly open course, especially if has a lot of water, aesthetic beauty and hopefully some elevation. But for me, it's just more fun when I'm bending a disc around a certain point in the fairway. If I'd played this in North Carolina, I would have considered it average. In South Florida, I was thrilled.
It does have a little water, however. 1 is the best of those holes, it sports a nice carry and a half, with the basket on the left of the second inlet you cross. A safely placed first shot will cross water and leave you with an approach that could traverse the second carry and fade left or approach the basket straight over land. An excellent first drive will carry both bodies of water and fade towards the basket.
5 is monster carry that makes less sense at this course but 6 offers a nice choice between hyzering over the water and approaching safely over land, but the land shot require switching to forehand.
But forget the water, if you're discing here, you're looking for the treed holes. There isn't really a signature hole among them. They are pretty much all solid but unremarkable. Adequately placed, with identifiable fairways and in some cases a choice of gaps.
It's a fun play, but nothing that you will remember at the end of the day. Unless you've never played north of here. Still, probably my favorite of the older courses in the area.

Cons:

No way to tell which position the pin is in and the baskets do blend in to the background. It would be nice to add some color there are a system of indicating the position on the tee sign.
Typically, the nest tee is visible from the previous basket but for the few times it isn't, an arrow or colored spoke would be welcome.
There are a few occasions where imperfect shots cross into the fairways of adjacent holes. There is also 17, which runs along a fence that will trouble inexperienced RHBH throwers.

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 29, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is far more wooded than the other courses I encountered in the Ft Lauderdale area. The rough is not bad, and finding your disc is not too much trouble.

The holes tend to be pretty short, so birdie opportunities abound.

You'll have some good technical shots here, and the all-out bomber will not be rewarded on most holes.

Tee pads are concrete. Tee signs are mediocre.
Navigation is decent. although the transition from 13 to 14 wasn't obvious, and going from 1 to 2 was confusing at first.

Cons:

The water holes here are strangely designed. I spent a minute or two trying to figure out what kind of shot I was supposed to throw on the first hole. You can't really lay on the little peninsula straight ahead, and unless you have a big arm, there isn't a legit line.

Holes 4 and 5 have big water carries, but the gaps look like you could easily get knocked into the water with a ticky tack branch. All three water carries favor RHBH if you're going for the big throw.

Some of the wooded holes lack a real line.

Hole 17 is right next to a fence with rail road tracks on the other side. Bad design. I just threw a forehand roller and moved on.

No real elevation here.

Other Thoughts:

I'm not sure who this course is intended for. Rec players will definitely lose discs to the water. Advanced players will find the holes too short to be interesting.

I like that they found a place to put in a technical course, and honestly it was enjoyable. But it all feels a little crammed in.

Tricky, Wooded Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 10, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Mostly short holes, but still challenging because of the amount of trees. It also has some nicely set up holes with shots over the lake.
I appreciate this course because it involves throws that are risky but can lead to plenty of birdies.

Cons:

Trees. Avoid this course if you get aggravated easily when you hit a tree, because it will happen. It almost seems that there are no true "fairways", but there is enough spacing in the trees for a well placed shot.

It's a small park, so the design can get tight especially on the back nine. Also, some holes are situated too close to the fence, where you can nail the fence off your drive and birdie the hole.

Not the most well maintained park.

Other Thoughts:

Unique park that gets the most use from Disc golfers. Located next to the railroad tracks and I-95. It is not the cleanest or nicest park in the area, the lake is an ugly shade of brown.

Overall, I like the challenge to this course. It is unlike any course in Broward County, but it could definitely be better if the park was larger.

Easterlin 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 14, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Now 20 holes as of January 2017! Baskets are still in good shape, cement tee pads, tee signs also indicate next tee direction, benches and other cool chill out spots throughout and two clean restrooms. Easterlin is a mix of short open holes and light woods. A large lake adds to the aesthetics and challenge with three shots that the lake comes into play. Free to enter park on weekdays. Practice basket by hole 1. Lots of challenge despite the small size of the park. Hole 1 starts right off with a tight long water shot. Holes 2 & 3 give you a taste of the wooded holes to come. Hole 5 is a bit more open and a signature hole, a RHBH hyzer bomb over the water and a real forehand or turnover test for a lefty. Another signature hole would be 4 as the basket is hiding in the palm bushes across the lake with options of a RHBH over the water or a lefty land route. Holes 10 - 18 go into the cypress trees where your shot shaping skills will be tested by some tight lines. No heavy rough to hide discs that may smack a tree and fly off the fairway. New long tees have been added in November 2016 on several holes which really ups the challenge.

Cons:

Busy multi use park. Watch for walkers, soccer balls, etc. Tee 8 is too close to basket 7 and is a safety hazard.

Other Thoughts:

Small park with short fun holes and lots of shade. Close to Turnpike & I95 make this a good choice for visitors from out of town. $1.50 each to enter weekends.

Not too shabby at all 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 31, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

• They've done well laying out the course with the space they have to work with, while on the weekend you may encounter groups of people and may have to wait on some to get out of your way, I haven't had any unreasonable delays.

• Variety; depending on where the pole holes are at the time, there are straight shots, dog legs in both directions, water hazards, and the occasional grumpy goose or psychotic squirrel running around.

• The course requires a bit of finesse in some areas, a good challenge

• Decent signage

Cons:

• The back 9 (and some of the front) is very woody; while I personally consider this a plus, I can see many getting quite frustrated at continually whacking trees with discs, as stated above, a degree of finesse is required here - if you're looking to grip it and rip it, go up to Tradewinds.

• Closes at 6pm, only enough time to get 1 round in after work.

• On weekends in addition to paying the (cheap) $1.50 fee, you may have to deal with groups of kids and families, dogs, etc.

• Holes 16 & 17 are close to the fence; be wary on 17 especially as a hard hook left will send you over the fence near the railroad tracks & of course, you aren't *supposed* to climb the fence for retrieval.

Other Thoughts:

I'm still new to the sport, and have only played here & at Tradewinds however, I like Easterlin a great deal; while compact and a little confusing in places, once you've been there a couple times you can easily find your way around - rumor has it they'll be installing concrete tees soon too.

Pleasant Round 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 9, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Good signs, not bad tee pads (rugs); Great over-the-lake tosses. Well maintained when I played (January 2012), decent flow to the course.

Cons:

A little tight on the back nine through the woods, but there are certainly playable lanes to the hole. Tee pads could get messy after a heavy rain.

Other Thoughts:

Used to come to this park years ago (pre-DG course); Course seems to have really helped in cleaning up the park - really enjoyed our time here. Would give it a 3.75 if I could.

Horrible 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 24, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Only a couple holes here that I enjoyed. One was over a body of water where the hole was between two small trees. Other things to do at this park and it did seem like a nice place to relax.

Cons:

Not well maintained at all. If you don't bring a map of the course you will be lost looking for the next tee. Far too many holes that have no line to the basket. Just clusters of trees that make it impossible to reach the basket. Roll shots are your best option for about half the course and even then there is no guarantee your getting set up for birdie. Very short holes as well. Too many holes under 200 ft. Some holes even had 2 baskets set up that got confusing. I would not play this course again unless someone was to redesign it. Seems like you could cut a few trees down and move a few holes to get a much better experience. Just a thought.
