Nice kiosk board that shows the layout worth taking a picture of. Good use of elevation change, as well as hole variety, and distances. Room to air out some drivers, as well as some technical shots here. The rolling elevation changes make this a super fun course. Baskets our in decent condition and had pink ribbons on them to make it easier to see from tee box. Tee pads were fine and the fairways were mowed nicely. The layout raps back perfect and is a fun place to pair with Herbert Hoover for a solid 21 holes

When the grass isn't mowed it can be awful
Good chance at losing disc right of hole 5/6/7 blackberry bushes on 7 can get bad.
No real good signs and without taking picture of map can be super hard play for first timers. Needs a couple things done new tee signs would be huge.

This is a tale of two courses when mowed this place is fantastic...on the flip when not taken care of can be very rough and can get pretty muddy at times. Overall a good play not true destination but worth throwing couple rounds

-Awesome, interesting fairways. Some narrow, some left, some right, a little bit of everything.
-Really nice elevation changes where you can let the disc soar over big ravines

-Large park, lots of really nice nature areas
-Concrete pads, nice baskets

-Could be easier to navigate through the course. Finding the next tee was a little difficult but the locals were very friendly.
-A bit neglected at times

If you are trying to deciding between the two courses in Newberg, let me tell you that this is no question the superior course. Hoover attracts way too many non-players, it's tiny, and there is a gang of tweakers/hobos who hang out there daily and enjoy bothering people. At Hoover (not Ewing), I had a hobo pick up and throw my disc, and also some people were having a picnic on a teepad. This course is prettier, bigger, more naturey, more interesting, far less crowded, and all-around a better disc golf course than Hoover. If I come back to visit Newberg I will be playing here and steering clear of Hoover.

- My favorite memory of this course is the teepost on Hole 11 (a narrow tunnel shot). Somebody wrote on the post "Don't freak out man!" I took a picture and laminated it as my bag tag.

Anyone who rates this course under 3 discs must have gotten plunked by an errant disc on one of the fairways or something. I thouroughly enjoyed this course. Exceeded my expectations. Throwing downhill and across elevation change on several holes is awesome. The Ewing Young course compliments Herb Hoover well with EY being a little more open and county feel vs the city park and technicality of Hoover. This Park also has toys and swings for kids, a skate park and bmx track and a dog park all up by the parking lot. The folks of Newburg are lucky with these two courses in town and Champoeg just a short drive away.

-This is a 12-hole course set in a secluded park in the town of Newberg, Oregon. The park includes a nice picnic area and a very large skatepark. There's also a BMX track.
-The property is nice. Rolling hills and occasional trees make for fun shots. There are several fun downhill shots. #s 3, and 8 demand a downhill precision shot, and #7 is a huge downhill crush shot. The course was designed expertly so as you don't have to throw many uphill shots. Also, the holes were separated nicely. 18 holes could have been crammed into the property but I'm glad the designer didn't.
-It is very quiet. The course is in it's own little valley, guarded by hills on three sides and a deep wooded ravine on the fourth. There is water down there, though. Watch out.
-The baskets were older DGA models that worked fine, and the teepads were nice, but #1's seemed to be slanted.

-The first and foremost issue is the grass. It is not a pleasant type to walk on. It's the tall type that grows in clumps. Combined with the hilly terrain, it is easy to slip and turn an ankle. The grass was cut, but not low enough.
-The holes near the middle of the park (1, 2, 7, 8) are OK, but on the rest of the holes are guarded on at least one side by thick blackberry bushes. Holes 5, 6, 9, and 10 have a steep drop off and a ravine filled with water on the right side.
-#s 10 and 11 may be two of the most silly holes anywhere. On 10 you can try to thread it through a tiny gap with an anny or risk a hyzer over the blackberrry bushes. Hole 11 requires a 200 foot tunnel shot through more blackberry bushes.
-There's no good signage. All there is are numbers painted on wood posts. But it wasn't too hard to find my way around by looking where the grass had been tramped down.

-I don't know what this course used to be, an overgrown farm field, maybe? Most of the trees seem to be no more than 15 years old. The course will get better as the trees mature. However, it easily surpasses Hoover Park.
-Hopefully some massive brush removal and grass replacement is in store.

Nice use of space creating some challenging shots.

A nice variety of different holes. There is a small tunnel shot, some bomb distance shots, a dogleg right which needs a forehand or anny shot, a wooded hole, downhill, uphill etc.

12 holes means a nice quick round.

I have never seen it busy.

Maintained by community mostly which means course can look rough at times.

Easy to lose a disc in tall grass.

No tee signage.

Itchy legs walking in the tall grass...pants recommended if not too hot out.

This course is within a mile from Herbert Hoover DGC, and the two make for a nice 21 hole circuit. I like Ewing because its a mild challenge, never busy, and you can pump a few distance shots out there. The community is doing great work there, and the course is always improving. Put it on your list if you are traveling through! A great day can be had playing Champoeg, Ewing and Hoover which are all within 10 minutes (39 holes total).

This is one of my favorite courses to play in the area. Virtually no crowds (I'm almost hesistant to rate it, I don't want too many people to show up) and the variety of holes, some short some long some dog leg left or right, and even elevation changes. A great course for beginners since there are manageable holes, and a good course for intermediate or even advanced disc golfers.

it does not appear to be taken care of enough. It can be kind of jekkyl and hyde, some days when it is mowed and taken care of it can be the nicest course you've ever played, other days the tall grass takes over so much so that you can lose your disc right on the fairway if you aren't careful. Depending on what day you get there, it will be your best friend or your worst nightmare.

-There is a course map at the kiosk

-Many wide open holes, long and unimpressive.
-This course needs 'next tee' signs, as it's not always obvious where to go after holing out.
-The fairways and greens are not defined in the thick long grass.
-Errant shots exit the long tall grass and land in thorny bushes scattered around the edges of the "fairways"
-There is trash in piles throughout the course

-Ewing Young could be a lot better with a little TLC. It seems pretty neglected. With some regular mowing and trash clean up this course would look and play a lot better. Add some nice tee signs and 'next tee' signs, even better.

This has become of my favorite courses to play in the Portland area. The crowds are usually very manageable. This course provides good undulation, a variety of obstacles, varying shot requirements, "water" hazards (in the winter)

Tall grass. In the summer, it can be tough to find your disc if you don't watch it carefully...

- Course is set in a decent sized city park that plays mostly in a field with trees/shrubs, but also has some wooded holes on the back end. There aren't any other activities going on here, so there should be no interference with the DG.
- A couple holes make very good use of some larger vegetation to force line shaping. #2's basket is behind/next to some very large pine trees that guard it very well, #3 has a huge patch of nasty rough right behind the basket, and #8 has a tight gap to go through (or over). #9 is a blind, sharp right curving shot up a hill and around a large bush.
- Wooded holes, #10 and #11, force a straight line through some gaps, a lot different from the rest of the course. #10 is especially tight close to the teepad, with some additional trees by the pin.
- Decent elevation changes here to make things interesting. #2 is a long, gentle valley, #3 is a short downhill shot, and #7 is a long downhill valley shot. #6 is slightly uphill, and #9 is a significant upslope on top of the blind RHFH line.
- Even mix of hole lengths, there are some ace runs and three bombers over 375'. Nice to be able to switch between drivers and approach discs on different holes.
- Nice concrete pads, and good baskets. Signs are more or less gone, but the map in front is all you need. Navigation is simple.

- A lot of open shots, that don't require much thought. #4, #5, and #6 are all free and clear except for some rough on the right side of the fairway. #1 and #12 have a few trees here and there, but it's easy to avoid.
- Some holes are a little close to each other, especially #4 next to #5.

- Course is not too shabby; lots of good spots to let some drives rip, a few holes that require good accuracy, and some uphill and downhill shots. While there's nothing super exciting, it provides enough enjoyment. Advanced players will be able to cruise through without any trouble, better suited to beginner/intermediate players.

-Multiple pin locations
-Variety of hole types with a few downhill and a few uphill shots.
-Longer holes for the long thowers
-Lots of elevation change
-Mach 2/3 baskets are still in great condition
-Tee pads are so big you could have a picnic on the back of one and not interrupt the person taking their drive
-Never waiting on a teepad

-Needs better signage. Current signage is old and not really useful right now.
-Grass can get very tall in spring/early summer
-Holes 4/5 are disc eaters. Lots 3 in one round.
-Holes 4/5 are probably the least creative on the course.

This course is the newer of the two courses in Newberg. It is set in a park with a dog walking area, skate park, bmx course, and remote controlled car course. Every time I've played this course it has been just me and a few other people so crowds are not a issue. Make sure you play with someone else so you can have a spotter. Watch where you walk when trying to find discs as well. I ran into multiple wasps nests and one huge bee hive while playing this course over the summer. This course is a diamond in the rough in my eyes. If there was a few more people willing to do work parties at this spot it could be a 4* course. Plenty of room to expand into a 18 hole course as well. I see big things for this course in the future.

Looks to use hills well. Uphill, downhill, sidehill shots.

Grass was getting tall. Tee boxes marked but no signage to direct you on which way to throw or where the next tee is. Got lost and ended up calling the round short. If they had/made better signage I'd be willing to try it again sometime.

This course uses elevation change, a small wooded area, and a couple longer holes to use the parks potential well, but it could definitely be improved. Very fun to play with buddies, has a couple holes that offer a challenge for intermediate players.

Nothing really exciting. Very tall grass in some areas, blackberry bushes are encroaching on several fairways, and a couple of the holes become boring, such as holes 4/5.

Fun trip with buddies, especially with Herbert hoover nearby, but it's not worth making to long of a trip for. I play it often, but only because it is close to Herbert hoover so I can play 2 parks in one trip, and it isn't to far away. Overall? It's okay.

Ewing Young was the second course installed in the quaint city of Newberg, Oregon and just miles away from Herbert Hoover Park. Although both courses incorporate plenty of elevation, they are complete opposites when it comes to design and location which makes them compliment one another.

This moderately hilly and lightly wooded 12 hole course utilizes the landscape with multiple pin placements allowing players to face hyzer/anhyzers as well as straight on approaches directly off the tee. Most of the holes are open with the exception of holes #10 and #11 and range anywhere from 195-429 ft. making the course length anywhere from 3,414-3,771 ft. depending on pin locations. The course is well maintained for the most part, with large cement tee pads, Mach II baskets, benches, and a large kiosk/map near the entrance. The course is much more remote then HH Park which means that it is less frequented and therefore easier to play without many interruptions.

Best Hole/s: #2 and #7

As others have stated, Ewing Young tends to be heavily impacted during different times of the year. During the wetter months the course tends to get bogged down and muddy considering it plays along hillsides and down near a creek. During the spring and summer the tall grass makes it very difficult at times to find a disc so make sure you use a spotter, especially on holes #6 & #9.

New tee signs would be a nice addition to the course considering the ones they have now are old laminated pieces of paper that are barely hanging on and have become faded over time. Hopefully through some weeklies or local tournaments the club can raise some funds to eventually get those installed. The ones they have currently work, but in the northwest they won't last long!

Worst hole/s: #4 and #5

Newberg has done a nice job incorporating dg in to the local community by installing courses in unique locations and catering to all skill levels. Although I really enjoyed HH Park because of its location in the center of town, I tend to prefer more isolated courses due to the nature aspect and the abundance of wildlife. The fact these two courses are so close allows players like myself to get the best of both worlds without having to spend an entire day to do it!

- Lots of elevation change.
- Great mixture of woods and open field shots.
- Baskets and tees are in excellent condition and well maintained.
- Good variety of short and long holes (up to 400')
- Good course for testing all aspects of your game.

- When the course isn't mowed, it will take you a long time to find your discs becuase the grass gets really high.
- The map can be hard to read sometimes, especially for first timers.
- Some of the holes have 3 alternate locations and be blind, so it can be frusturating not know where you're throwing until you actually get to the basket.

This course is fun, but during the rainy season it gets really muddy. All in all though, I really enjoy this course whenever I get a chance to play it.

I would play this course again. Dog friendly. Make sure to go check out the skate park while you are there. Even if you don't skate, the skaters there are generally really good and fun to watch.

Good tees and pins. Fair amount of variety and challenge from hole to hole. throwing up hills, down hills, and across gullies, short and long holes, some trees to avoid, and some trees to thread.

Several holes can be disc eaters (#4, #5, & #8). The first time I played there was grass up to my knees so w/o pathes or a good map of the course it was dificult to navigate from hole to hole in a few places. (thanks to some of the locals for showing us visitors around) So I wish it was better maintained and marked.

NOT a good place for beginners or first timers. Great place for experienced players to be challenged. And if you play here you may as well check out Herbert Hoover less than a mile away. 2 for the price of 1.

Ewing young is a great course on a nice piece of unused land (other than the disc golf course) that sits between a skate park and a river behind what looks like someones backyard. The park plays up, down and across rolling hills so there is alot of elevation shots as the designers did a great job with this one. I am glad they put twelve really good holes in here instead of trying to fit eighteen holes which would of sacrificed how good this little course is. Navigation was a breeze after the only other group on the course pointed us to hole two. I was surprised at how well maintained the course was from the stand point of the grass which looks like if unkept it could get very long and unruly. The entire course was in good shape with little to no litter and vandalism except for one bench which serves the purpose of holes three and seven, it was broken and had spray paint on it.

Someone could say that this course is a little too wide open and doesn't have enough obstacles. The pin placement for a couple of holes were very close to the edge of a small cliff that led to a river so if you ace run or birdie run you have a chance of losing your disc. If thrown off the fairways there is some thick bush and stickers that could eat your disc or if you are wearing shorts could tear your legs up.

I believe the hole distances for this course on here are the length of the short position. When I played here they were all in the long position and there were many 400'+ throws involved with this course with many throwing into headwinds or crosswinds which make this course a pretty good challenge. After hole five or six I kept saying that this course needed a few technical wooded holes to round it out and holes ten and eleven delivered in that regard. This is one of my favorite courses with less then eighteen holes and I would gladly come back here to play.

Great general variety for a 12 hole course on a relatively simple piece of land, Ewing simply has a very intelligent layout.

Variety in elevation, as well as left to tight shots.
Variety in tight forested holes and wide open bombing holes.
Course is kept up well, nice tee pads, baskets, and benches, signs, the little things.
Multiple placements also add variety.

Course can get a little unruly, long grass, and in the winter it gets very tough to play with all the sogginess and mud.
On certain holes if youy stray the course you can quite easily lose a disc.

Ewing is a very fun course, the fact that it only has 12 holes can be remidied by playing Hoover down the street and possibly Champoeg if your making it a trip from the Portland area, definitely an underplayed course, it often gets overshadowed in the Portland metro area by other more well known courses. Even if you only get to play it once, the variety of shots makes it worth it.

This is a nice afternoon course that I always have fun playing. It can make you think and work to hit your spot so you can drop your strokes. if not watch them go up and up.
