A Chance For An 84 Foot Ace.

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 5, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

(1.312 Rating) A compact lightly wooded ace race course.
- BASKETS - It's a bad sign when I start off a review Pro-ing the chains first. Amen to DISCatchers. There are aging a bit, but they are 99 times better than the alien looking things at nearby Lake Stevens.
- ACE RUNS - As noted in the review title, there's an 84 foot long ace run here on hole (6). It appears the locals are stacking small branches to reduce parts of the plausible angles to hit it a bit. There are other easy gets on a half dozen other holes and there are only nine holes. Holes (8) and (9) are blind and thus a bit trickier. Players throwing here regularly are likely racking up multiple aces a year and the ace factor here is probably 10 times greater than the typical course.
- BEGINNER FRIENDLY - Ideal for new players, families and for those that don't care to improve.
- QUICK PLAY - I played all 9 holes in 13 minutes!

Cons:

Way too short
- LACK OF CHALLENGE - This course was far too cupcake for me. Most MA3s and better that I know, would only play here if they lived in the neighborhood and wanted to take some new players out for a round. With the exception of the last two holes, I found the other seven to be just plain blah. Even par likely wouldn't even draw an 800 rated round. I threw 5 down and came away feeling disappointed.
- HOLE VARIETY - For a super short course in a confined area, the variety is about as good as it could be. There are a few trees to miss and the little elevation that is here, is used. No water and all par 3s of course. Hole distance variation is 200ish to sub 100 feet long.
- SPACING - When I got to tee (1), I noticed that basket (8) was along the right side of the fairway 30 feet in front of the tee. I've got to believe that that has been black aced many times. Several other tee and basket locations feel like they are on top of each other. I would not want to be here if multiple groups were playing.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - Meh. I scored this aspect 30 percentile. There are some massive Douglas Firs here, but that aspect was also present at 10 of the 11 Seattle metro courses I've played. The course is surrounded by a chain link fence on 3 sides to separate it from residential areas.
- NAVIGATION AND SIGNAGE - No course map posted and no tee signs. The only number markings I recall, was the imprinted number on the poured concrete tee edge/tripping line. All that stated, the course is so short and compact, that everyone will figure it out quick.
- AMENITIES - The tees are natural and rutted. No benches or any other course related extras. There are picnic areas in the park and a restroom building in a different section of the park, but not too far away.

Other Thoughts:

Ferguson to me, is a barely passable course. It has the essentials of a numbered layout to follow, tees and baskets, but it's so bland overall, that I don't think it's going to appeal to player's that can chuck over 250 feet. However, I could see beginners and local MA4s coming here for the ease of play and to hunt for aces. Families with small kids may also enjoy the course. For those outside the area, this is a numbers padding course only. It reminds me of courses like Peace Community Church in Bradenton FL, TC High School in Traverse City MI, Dublin Park in Huntsville AL, Spassland in Milwaukee WI and Sarah Moore Greene in Knoxville TN. Most people reading these examples likely won't recognize any of them. That's because they are all lightly wooded super short beginner courses that fall far short on mass appeal.

Ultimate ace run course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 1, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

9 hole course tucked into a small space in the corner of Ferguson Park. The park also has children's play areas and other amenities.

Navigation here is pretty simple, as the course is about as tiny as a 9 hole course can be. Simple concrete slabs with the hole number and basket direction serve as the signage. Easy enough.

For being super short, there are a few decent lanes and lines to navigate. Granted, it's still all basically short ace runs, but at least you'll have to earn it a little bit. There is a nice rock outcropping around the hole 1/8/9 area as well.

VERY beginner friendly, and a great place to bring people new to the game, kids, or older folks. In that regard, this design is spot on and could easily hook new players.

Cons:

As stated above, the course is SHORT. There is only one hole over 200', and it comes in at just over at 204'. Most players should be able to play this course with just a putter.

When I was here, there was a lot of water retention on the slightly lower section of the course.

The natural tees weren't the best, but I guess they were serviceable enough.

Other Thoughts:

For what it is, and the space available, this is a fine little course. It's certainly not going to challenge most players to anything more than hitting aces, but there are worse things than practicing your putter shots!

Not worth going far out of your way for, but if you're passing by and happen to have two discs in your car, give it a try!

Traffic Complaints 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 2, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very gentle course - good for newbies

Concrete tee markers (not pads) were functional; made finding tees easy, and had arrows pointing to the basket.

We liked #8, which went over a hill to a blind basket. This might be frustrating if you know what you're doing, but we don't and liked it a lot.

While the DG course is tight (see con below), it's well separated from the other parts of Ferguson park, so traffic from non disc golfers should be minimal.

Cons:

Rude and dangerous group when we were there. We left without finishing basket #9 after they nearly hit us multiple times with discs. No yelling "fore", and they could definitely see us and threw discs anyway. One missed my head by a few feet - and it happened again afterwards, at which point we left. The rest of the course was completely empty, so it's not as though these guys had any reason to feel rushed. No clue if these are regulars, but it was bad enough to make us leery of making the drive back.

The jerk factor was compounded by the design of this course, which is very, very tight. If the course is crowded (note: it wasn't when we were there), there's going to be a lot of cross traffic.

Single chain baskets.

Other Thoughts:

None.

Nice Pitch & Putt 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 8, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a great course for practicing approach and specific shots. The course is short, the holes are easy, and easy to navigate. Teach your kids to throw here and they'll feel like pros out of the gate.

Cons:

This is NOT a course for anything more than an approach. The longest hole (1) is listed as 225', but that sure seems optimistic to me - A Roc lands at the basket without moving your feet on the throw - the rest are shorter. Leave the drivers and fairway drivers in the car. Pull one of these out and you'll be looking for it in properties that aren't even adjacent to this park. It's small.

Other Thoughts:

I was out there alone yesterday morning, and played the course 5 times in 90 minutes. For the first 4 times through, I used a single Roc only - could have left the rest of the bag in the car.
holes 1 and 7 are a shared open fairway, 2 and 3 are straight with a few nicely placed trees so you have to throw straight (or light hyzer 3). 4 and 5 you are shooting for aces - they are really just extra long putts from the tee. 6 is a little neat - very short, but a tree laying over means it has to be a big hyzer, a tomahawk or thumber. Hole 8 tee is at the bottom of a small hill you have to go over before crossing some grass to the basket - actually a little frustrating (fun frustrating) for a short hole. And 9 is straight with a right turn at the end.
All things (and land constraints) considered
This is really a neat P&P course.
If nobody is there and you want some good approach practice, 1 and 7 share an grassy fairway going in opposite directions - throw 10 discs, finish 10 putts and come back the other way.

A Pitch and Putt Adventure 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 4, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course is an excellent introduction to the sport. It features very short holes, basic obstacles, and is easy to navigate. Ferguson was my very first round of disc golf and I scored two over par. I am very much a novice, but I still had fun on this tiny course.

Cons:

Tiny. Leave your fast drivers at home.
The tee "pads" are actually patches of dirt with a cement patch in front of them pointing to the tee. Unfortunately, the pads are now full of holes and rocks and a few have exposed roots. Getting a nice launch isn't really necessary in a small course such as this one, but a bit of effort to keep them smooth would be nice.

Other Thoughts:

This is the putt-putt of disc golf. An excellent way to introduce a young person, or complete novice the ropes of the sport. More experienced players may get enjoyment from the course by practicing rolling birdies, but should view it as warm-up.

Tiki Golf in Western Washington 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 22, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Ferguson is more like a 'putt-putt' than a true disc golf course. The distances are extremely short rendering drivers virtually useless here. At the same time, the designer of this course has done a fantastic job of utilizing space with only minimal conflicts with other fairways and has succeeded in creating a course which is fun for very new players, families, and experienced players who are looking for something different. The course itself is quite beautiful with an interesting bump of a hill, a large mossy rock, and nice grassy fairways.

Cons:

The main con is that this isn't really a 'course' in the traditional sense. Players looking for a challenge will need to look elsewhere because Ferguson just doesn't have it. If the course is busy (which it usually is not), you may have to contend with errant discs from other fairways as they are relatively closely spaced due to land constraints. Fortunately most folks out playing here are very considerate and friendly.

Other Thoughts:

If you plan to go to Ferguson, just know that you aren't going to find a traditional challenging championship course, but you are still likely to have a lot of fun seeing who can hit the most metal or who can get the most roller birdies, etc. This is also a great place to take the family or the girlfriend to get an introduction to the game. The holes are short enough that young'uns shouldn't feel boredom set in by the end, making it more likely that they'll want to come back!

Cons:

there is some moderate traffic, and some dangers of hitting cars. and it is only 9 holes, so there is not that much to play with.

Other Thoughts:

there is also a playground near the course just in case you want to have one person watch your kids. but, it's kind of easy so they might be able to play with you

Good beginner's course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 15, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The tee pads are visible and located close to the preceding hole. Many of the baskets can be seen from the concrete tee pad. Decent to practice your short game and putts.

Cons:

Most of the holes are laughably short for anyone who isn't a beginner. The tee pad areas are marked with cement (see pics), but the actual tee pads are non-existant. Some of these are dangerously unstable. Hole 2 and 7 are probably the worst, with rocks and puddles in the middle of what should be a tee pad. Since the course is so short you don't really need footwork, but this also means that you can't really improve your drives here.

Other Thoughts:

This is a fun little course that is good to introduce beginners and warm up on. It isn't worth the drive if you don't live near Snohomish, but it's the best course for beginners that I have seen so far. If you live anywhere south of here and are still learning I would recommend Blyth in Bothell or Silver Lake in Everett though.

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 4, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is the great equalizer as all it is is a putting course. This course will really improve your short game, however. Even the "long" holes are easy to birdie.

Cons:

This course just leaves you hungry for heading to a course where you can really let the disc fly. Some of the fairways run across other holes; so keep your eyes open!

Other Thoughts:

For me, it's definitely worth stopping here on my way to or from Lake Stevens. It's a warm-up course that will fine tune your putting game. Shooting here first will definitely make you play better at the next course. If you play it on your way home, it's a great cool down course.

Pros:

- great for putt and approach practice
- well maintained
- well marked
- short enough for lunchtime play

Cons:

- 2 or 3 poor placements make some holes a chance throw, or very akward (not fun)
- very short holes
- crowded, lots of double-back

Other Thoughts:

If you live or work nearby, it's a great way spot to play aquick, short round. I don't think I've played another course that you can complete in 15 minutes without rushing it.

Great for working on your short game, but apart from that, don't go out of your way to make this a regular stop on your disc golf route.

Working right next door to the park is a huge blessing... my putting game is much better since I started this job. :)

Note : don't him my car, I park along hole 3 every day while I'm at work. *wink*

Beautiful! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 12, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a very beautiful course, exactly what I needed after playing courses like Whistlers Bend and Dexter in Oregon all last week. This course is perfect for practicing fairway and putting technique and solving obstacle problems without throwing your shoulder out! Since my muscles are already completely sore but I still want to play it was very refreshing. Plus no one was there, other courses Ive been to in the area are packed dawn to dusk.

Cons:

I can see how if there were a lot of people there could be the potential of getting hit by a disk, but some courtesy and awareness could alleviate that concern.

Other Thoughts:

DEFINITELY worth the drive from Everett, its less than 15 minutes, by far the closest baskets around! I would go to Lake Stephens for a challenge, but I would go back to Ferguson for fun, especially if I had kids learning the game.

Fun for the family and newbies. 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 26, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Ferguson park is well taken care of. There is little to no litter or vandalism. The course is easy to follow, the next teepad is right after the last basket. There are places to picnic there and this is a short course that the whole family can have fun on. The baskets are beautiful and the course is rarely used.

Cons:

The course is extremely short, I'm using a putter on every hole. There is room on the other side of this park that is not being used to make either a challenging 9 hole course or keep the short family friendly style and make it 18 holes, I'm not sure why that wasn't utilized.

Other Thoughts:

You won't need a huge bag full of discs weighing you down when you play here, if you usually carry around 30 discs with you to play a round you might want to consider just taking a mid and a putter instead. My mother plays with me here and she can birdie most of the holes. I would say drive another 15 minutes and play Lake Stevens instead if you are looking for more of a challenge.

quaint course for children 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 24, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

If you want to try and get your first ace this is the course for you. If you are a small child or a beginner play this course. This is great if you only want to use mid range and putter and you don't like to be challenged. I threw a -4 on this course and I've been playing for about 2 months.

Cons:

I threw -4 on this course and I've only been playing for about two months. Super Short, maybe two challenging holes and these are challenging because a big rock and a big hill make it a somewhat blind tee shot. Even if you get the hole in one you will feel that it was cheap.

Other Thoughts:

Furgeson Park is beautiful park, if you want to take a family there for a pic-nic and some games then it is great that you can bring your discs and still throw. Short course, but well maintained. Not worth the drive from anywhere out of 10 miles from there. Lake Stevens is 6 miles away and is way better for a short course.
