Small Community Park Comes With A Massuese! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 12, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Firefighters memorial Park is a fairly small community type park. I didn't find any rolling hills, to speak of, just flat lawn area with a nice smattering of scattered trees. There were ball fields on one end, a skate punk park, a picnic shelter, restroom facility, etc. Mostly, your typical small city park.

The nine hole course starts in the corner near the parking lot on Detroit Avenue. At first, I was a little confused by the three distances marked on the tee signs. I quickly determined that the REDS distances were used from the concrete tee pads. The YELLOW and the BLUE were the alternate tees and their pads were smaller concrete blocks which were harder to see. The baskets are older models usually with the number marked in the middle. Navigation was fairly easy after I figured out to stick with the REDS.

Most of the holes seem to be in 270-330' range. There are enough trees to provide challenge and enjoyment for most players. Baskets are placed behind, next to and in the trees whenever possible.

# 8 was an interesting hole, to say the least. From the RED tee, which is across Fairgrounds Avenue, your initial tee off has to pass over the tee sign, the # 7 basket and then negotiate between two trees. True to form, I clipped a tree.

Cons:

There are a couple of major safety hazards here but they effect play if they course was crowded with players or if there were other park users in the way..

Obviously, # 8, teeing off across the previous basket could be a problem. But I'm willing to bet on this course, that problem has never came up.

# 9 plays right across, thru or over the picnic shelter. Players would have to be aware of be willing to skip this hole if necessary. Or. Maybe, throw a harmless roller. But's that probably the case on any other hole here or on many other city courses we play. The day I played Firefighters Memorial, a lady brought out a massage table and was giving a massage under the trees.

Other Thoughts:

This is just another fun little recreational course. Like a previous reviewer stated, it's not a destination course. But it's right off Route 66. It's a quick 30 minute fun round. If I lived in Kingman, I'd play this course all the time. Just try not to nail the lady with the massage table table. And she didn't look like THAT kind of a masseuse. Too bad! Firefighters Memorial could become a real popular course. Maybe even be the first course to a receive SIX star rating!

Decent Stop for a Quick Break 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 14, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Concrete tee-pads. Every hole has a concrete tee-pad on it, and while they are not overly big, they have enough room for the length of the holes.
-It's about 5 minutes off of I-40 and takes only 20 to 30 minutes to play, so if you need a break during a long trip down I-40 this is a nice quick stop.
-Good use of the trees, they have in the park. While the course is not heavily wooded, the trees in the park are well used to force some ceiling shots and make some interesting shots.
-Overall, there are several well-designed fun holes on this course.
-Park is well groomed and you have no risk of losing a disc here.
-Decent distance on the course (no super long bomber holes but a couple were over 300 feet).

Cons:

-Can be very hard to navigate. It took us a few minutes to find the first tee-pad as there was no kiosk at the beginning or obvious start to the course (just a bunch of baskets spaced out around the park). Many of the baskets are near each other and it was hard to sometimes know which basket to throw too. Once we pulled up the map that is on this site and started using it, it was much easier to navigate once we used that.
-The tee-signs are not very helpful and they might as well not be there as they are either broken or not very easy to read.
-The map shows multiple tee-pads, but they either don't exist or are really hard to find and it really is like there is only one tee-pad on each hole
-The course is squeezed in a somewhat small area and there are some safety issues here. You throw over a bath, near some roads and parking lots, and near/through some picnic shelters. When we were there, there was no one else there, but if there are other park users several holes might not be playable.

Other Thoughts:

No a great course, but not a terrible course either. It's not a destination course, but if you need a break while driving along I-40 this course, works well.

Pros:

Nice and grassy park with some challenging holes.

Cons:

Some trees get in the way and there are a lot of punk kids from the skatepark that is always messing with the players. Cops have been called several times that I know of.

Other Thoughts:

It's just off the highway and easy to get to

Pros:

Easy to find and navigate, just off I-40, descent signs, nice baskets, multiple tees, quick play 9 hole with nice flow. Is a short drive from Cactus Flats & right off of hwy., so definately worth a stop to play.

Cons:

Grass/dirt tees provide poor footing, small park, short holes/course. I played on a Sat. afternoon so there where kids running around in fairways, football practice & other park users in play. Could use a bit of tee side cover on most all holes & pin side cover on a few.

Other Thoughts:

Mostly a short 9 hole, some holes had a good amount of tree obstructions, others could use more. On a couple of holes the street & traffic could come into play. Considering the space available it's an okay course. The ground & grass are in rough shape, probably the climate mostly. The Mach 2 baskets are in great shape, had about a 240 ft. shot hit chains clean and stick in.

Pros:

Nice looking park. Close to the highway so you can get off for a quick game. Nice layout for how small it is.

Cons:

You have to play around most of the pinic areas and other facilities. This means you are throwing around a lot of people. The park is very small and the signs are hard to figure out where you are throwing. You can easily throw to the wrong baskets.

Other Thoughts:

Nice that it is so close to the highway. I would not go way out of my way to play here. If you need a break while driving - nice simple nine holes.

Just off Route 66!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 14, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Beautiful well-landscaped park just off highway....9 professional quality holes, all with unique characteristics.... great baskets, facilities and no less than 3 different sets of tee markers!

Cons:

Though the park isn't really big enough to accommodate 9 more holes, playing the red for 1-9 then the yellow tees for 10-18 works pretty well, giving golfers completely different looks in many cases.

Other Thoughts:

Built by awesome local dude Robert Pine, this course is now Kingman's first course, rather than the only one. With the creation of Cactus Flats, Kingman can now claim 27 holes of disc golf bliss. Fireman's has some killer holes....#2 can be aced with a perfect forehand via a narrow opening through some fairway pine trees, #3 rests among nice grassy hills and big trees, #6 is a challenging bit of fun, and #8 crosses a nearby street for a tenuous but exciting birdie hole (just watch the O.B.!). No lame holes at this course. You absolutely won't regret stopping by to toss 9 here. Do it. Do it!
