Warm up for Zobel or Riggs 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 17, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Its a nice little course to warm up on before taking on Zobel or Riggs. I have yet to see another player on the course. Some challenging lines on a few holes and 1 hole that you can grip it and rip it.

Cons:

It could definitely use better signage and teepads, the teepads are just natural with a piece of colored wood indicating the spot.

Other Thoughts:

1 hole is near a playground and a couple of others play over fields. If the conference center gets busy again that could provide some conflict with discers.

2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 12, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is set up by the youth center inside the campground. It starts just south of the youth center and ends pretty close to hole 1 which was nice. The baskets here are DISCatchers that caught fine and as always are easy to spot. Tee signs are large, white boards with just the hole # on them. A few had white and blue tee distances written on them in marker but those were pretty faded away on most. There are plenty of next tee signs throughout which is awesome because there are a number of longer walks between holes. A mix of open (mostly) and a few wooded holes. Flow was actually pretty easy once you finally find the course.

Cons:

The chains on the baskets are probably some of the rustiest I've ever seen. They caught fine but who knows for how long. There is a lot of walking in between holes. It would have been nice to have more of the woods used but it is designed for youth campers I'm assuming so it does make sense that it's more open I suppose.

Other Thoughts:

This was one I just wanted to get played after years of seeing it on the browse map. It' s not worth any kind of trip out of your way to play but is decent enough if you're camping here. If you have the time you'd be so much better off going a couple miles away to Zobel.

Decent campground course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 15, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course sits inside of the campground area at Green Lake Conference Center and is decent, considering that it's far from the main attraction of the area.

- Innova Disc Catcher baskets in very playable condition. A few could use new chains, but they are all level and caught well.

- The course uses a mix of wooded and open areas. You could start on hole 1 (Park at Youth Center on Stone Fence Rd) or Hole 5 (park near cabins on Cabin Rd).

- Well maintained fairways and tee areas. Considering that we never saw anyone else playing the course, and it's still regularly maintained, that was a nice touch.

- Clean grounds, though you won't find any garbage cans on the course itself. Many times, I consider pack-in / pack-out a pro.

- Many of the holes are short, due to casual or new players being the predominant users of the course. There is room on many of the holes to play them quite a bit longer, if you wanted to.

- Quiet campground setting, for the most part. Staff that we encountered was friendly and did not question whether or not we should be there. On-site camping available.

Cons:

- Some long walks between holes that made navigation a little confusing the first time through.

- A few of the baskets had heavily rusted chains.

- Getting into the area could be difficult without a map.

- There's a lot of potential for an extra 9 out here, but I doubt it's on their radar. That being said, the course is entirely flat, so it would be double the same sort of disc golf.

Other Thoughts:

If you swing into the area to play Zobel or WARP, I'd say that this is a good place to warm up or just mark off your list of bagged courses. Since we were camping there, it was easy to play it a couple of times a day, when nothing else was going on. It's definitely an area known more for the lake activities and world-class ball golf, so there's a lot of extra things to do while you're here.

Worse things in the world... 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 5, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Decent 9 hole course stuck in the middle of a large campground.

The basics:

Easy enough flow to the course. Lots of "next tee" signs to get you where you're going.

Two tees at each hole, signified by white blocks (shorts) and blue blocks (longs). While this is a nice feature, it is somewhat difficult to find the blues on a few holes. More on this later.

Some interesting shots here, especially on 1-3 and 8-9. Nothing too tough, but at least there's some obstacles/woods. Hole 1 is especially nice, with a pseudo-tunnel shot. Hole 2 is nice, as well, in the woods. It's a shame more of the woods couldn't be used here.

Discatcher baskets, all in good shape. The hole numbers are in the appropriate spots, which helps with navigation on the open holes.

Cons:

Natural tee pads, which were in fine shape, at least early in the season. I can't imagine this course gets too much play, so I'm sure they stay playable.

Tee signs are just hole number. No distance, or any other information, but at least they're easy to spot and help with navigation.

Quite a few open shots here, especially on holes 4-7. Holes 1 and 2 is about the only one that can't be hit with some kind of hyzer/straight mid or putter shot.

Not a ton of distance needed here, even from the longs. Hole 2 is long-ish, but nothing too crazy.

Other Thoughts:

GLCC isn't a bad course for what it is. If I was camping here, and just wanted to spin a couple quick 9's, it would definitely suffice. If I wanted challenge, I'd head a couple miles down the road to Zobel, which is to say, I'd usually head to Zobel.

Not the easiest to find, as you have to venture pretty far back into the grounds to find the course. It's apparently pay to play, but I doubt there's too much fuss put up if you show up and play, which should take all of a half hour for two players. Getting out can be a journey, as well. Make sure to stay on the main roads.

I parked by hole 5 and played the loop starting there. On-season bathrooms are right across the road, and there's a small children's playground.

To be fair, this is only a camper's or bagger's course. Nothing too much here to get you excited. I gave it 2.0 solely for the good few holes and dual tee pads.

Private but open to the public? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 30, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Nice piece of wooded property used for portions of this course. Amazing old growth trees create a real cool feeling on this course.

2) Tee posts indicate the hole # you are on and help with navigation.

3) Directionals available to direct you don the couple of longer walks between holes.

4) Nice Discatchers in pretty good shape.

5) White and Blue Stones indicate which tee you are on. I couldn't find a couple of them so I just decided on a place to throw from.

6) Dual Tees allow two different looks at a couple of the holes and definitely increase the challenge.

7) Pretty good distance variation on both sets of tees with a different of about 100' on the short tees between the shortest and the longest and about 200' difference on the long tees.

8) Pay to play is a good thing . . . but I didn't find any place to register or check in and I asked a few park patrons . . . perhaps I was there too early in the season for things to be really ramped up. I would certainly have expected more people on Memorial Day Weekend but who knows.

9) Pretty beginner friendly course with mostly open shots and shorter holes available.

10) The disc golf courses winds its way through three seperate areas of the park . . . first 3 holes in the woods, then the middle section of the course is wide open nearly, and the final few holes play along the edge of a wooded area.

11) This resort/conference center has everything . . . although Iw ould guess you need to be a guest or pay for it all. Regardless if you want to do anything I am sure they have it.

Cons:

1) A few of the more open holes are fairly boring. Pretty minimal obstacles.

2) Tees were tough to find from time to time . . . which must mean a few of the posts were missing.

3) It just seems like they would have a ton of area to make a bunch of little 9 hole courses on this property. There is so much wooded property and so many little sections of trees I bet you could have a ton of little courses.

4) It also seems like there were at one time a few more holes int he section between #1 and #9 or there just were openings int he woods. I would have loved to see a few more holes in that wooded section of the park rather than a couple of the holes out in the open.

5) Routing of the course was ok only because of the directionals, but there were a couple of longer walks between holes when there was perfectly good land in between holes that maybe could have been used. I am not the designer though so I cannot comment on the designers restrictions of land use.

Other Thoughts:

I was really surprised . . . I expected this course to be a simple straight forward beginner course but they surprised me on a few of the holes and they presented a pretty good challenge on about half the holes. Thats not bad for a little 9 holer. I cannot go higher than a 2.5 rating because there just was enough lacking to bother me, but I still did have fun. Nothing really blew me away but I still enjoyed myself.

Beautiful park, beautiful beginning 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 24, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The first couple holes at this course are just fantastic. I played from the long tees and especially enjoyed holes 1, 2 and 3. Good pin placements, good obstacles, well isolated from other activities in the park and great scenery.

Good variation in distances and # of obstacles.

Cons:

I felt like there was some wasted space between holes. 1, 2, and 3 were so good, but then you hike out of the woods into a more open park area where the holes are still fun, but not to the same level as 1, 2, and 3. I wish they could have made a few more holes in the woods along the trails, as opposed to out in the open field.

Had a hard time finding all the long tees

Other Thoughts:

Overall, I had a great time and lots of fun. I hope they expand the course to 18 holes in the future b/c I end up going to Green Lake in the summer for other activities, so why not take in some disc golf while I'm there?

Decent nine 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 27, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Very well manicured. Limited play usually used by conference center participants. Designed by good designer, Pat Blake; one of the younger members of the High Bridge design/install team.
I believe the first time here, we payed a $5 fee. However, upon this second visit, we went to the registration desk and were given a map of course/scorecard and no payment was required. Additionally, they will give you discs to play with if necessary. You will need the scorecard, as there are no tee signs; colored stones on ground mark end of tees. Scorecard lists yardages and map illustrates general direction of course.
Navigation easy. White directional arrows near baskets send you to tees where walk is required. Look for them. They are done well and are present wherever needed.
Beautiful pine groves and wild prarie areas are beautiful. Fairways cut plenty wide enough to enjoy this scenery without looking every hole in tall prarie grass. However, the tall grass is there; so, pay attention to shot finish.
10 feet from short tee #5, a momma turkey and two young ones strutting around.

Cons:

This is a good nine. No elevation or water, but most of what you could ask for otherwise. Long tee for #5 could not be found. We drove from second story of playground fort structure. Nice elevated/invented tee.

Other Thoughts:

From #9 basket is a natural tunnel shot to basket for #1; essentially making this a 10 hole course. You have to make the walk anyway. As always, do not throw up on anyone playing #1.
Many other recreational opportunities here for the whole family. 3 and one half ball golf courses within Green Lake Conference Center. Historical sites; Christian conferences and workshops, also available for non-Christian groups, cabins available for lodging, prarie and rose gardens, campgrounds, playgrounds, tennis, basketball, beach with swimming, outdoor volleyball. etc. Go to their site, at Green Lake Conference Center, to see a nearly endless amount of recreational opportunities. No alcohol allowed in conference center grounds; though I did see a beer can or two on course. DO NOT LEAVE LITTER ON COURSES; ESPECIALLY BEER CANS WHERE ALCOHOL IS PROHIBITED.
