Bicentennial Park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 29, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-- Probably the best elevation course in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Certainly rivals Turner Park, Saddle Hills and Lester Lorch. No. 1 is a 500-foot uphill shot, and No. 2 can be 800 feet downhill, depending on basket location. There are also several 250-ish foot holes that rise or drop by more than 40 feet.
-- Water (creek) is in play a lot. Best example is No. 12 (330 feet). It plays from an elevated tee, and the fairway basically follows the creek to a basket near the water. You can bail out early/left. In general, the creek is small and shallow, so retrieving discs is not difficult.
-- Good mix of open and wooded holes. The front part of the course is more open.
-- Does not favor one throwing style (RHBH/LHBH).
-- New DiscCatcher baskets.
-- Practice basket.
-- Two concrete tee pads per hole, except 9B.
-- Restroom at parking lot.
-- Because this is a city park, it is generally well maintained; the middle part that is away from the multi-use part of the park can get somewhat overgrown, but I've seen a lot worse.

Cons:

-- Navigation is an issue, mainly because of numerous redesigns that have left remnants of previous designs and lead to confusion. Course has been 18, 19, 20 and 21 holes at various times. The tee pads and permanent signs have the original hole numbers, but redesigns have changed those numbers. So, you walk up to hole 2 and it says 3. Sometimes the information at the tee pad contradicts itself (sign says 16 but 15 is on the post). There are also concrete tee pads that are no longer used. For some reason, this is a 19-hole course that ends with hole 18; there is a hole 9B.
-- The elevation leads to some safety issues. Hills are steep and rocky, both uphill and downhill. Crossing the creek on No. 1 is generally dry, but after a heavy rain, that crossing might be under water.
-- The first few and last few holes are in a part of the park that gets a lot of use by non disc golfers. No. 1 has a mando to keep you away from a playground area, and a walking path is part of the course. A big chunck in the middle of the course, however, takes you away from the multi-use part of the park.

Other Thoughts:

-- This is an excellent piece of land, and the holes are well designed. Concrete tee pads and new baskets mean all of the infrastructure is in place. If one design can be settled on, and the remnants of the old designs removed, this will easily be a 4.0 course.

Some Challenging Holes With Good Elevation Changes 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 5, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Some nice steep elevation changes make for some unique holes.
Good use of water hazards on many of the holes.
Holes that really test different shot selections.
Good mix of open and wooded holes.
Several memorable holes on this course.
2 Warm up baskets
2 Concrete Tee locations on each hole.

Cons:

Missing baskets compounded by wrong numbers on some of the others.
Several vandalized or missing benches.
Tricky steep hills to scale up and down, some loose footing and rocks in places to be aware of when climbing up and down the slopes.

Other Thoughts:

Worth the drive out to the south of the city, one of the better courses around. This used to be a 4-4.5 course and it used to be 21 holes but now it has been cut back to 18. A few of the baskets were taken out and the last 4th of July bash here saw the park get trashed and heavily vandalized. I really like some of the steep uphill and downhill shots and the old #18th (not sure what that # is now) involves a tricky shot diagonally over a creek and under a bridge to a basket location right by the creek which adds some pucker factor towards the end of the round. This course needs some maintenance and fixing of the basket and teepad numbers to get back to being what once one of my favorites around town.

Pros:

With baskets and signage would be a pretty good course. You can tell that at one time this course was well thought out and cared for. Those days are long gone.

Cons:

Missing baskets and signs.

Other Thoughts:

If you have never played this course do not waste your time. If you do decide to play the course. Tee number one is to the left of the playground. Saying "right of the bathrooms" would indicate park by the bathrooms...not so.

Worth a Visit 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 19, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Hole variety is stellar. Uphill, down hill, long shots, hole shots. You want it, you get it.

Tees are all concrete pads with many having trash cans and benches. Alternate pads on several holes.

City park is usually well maintained.

Cons:

Signage is lacking. Signs are in place, but outdated with the transition from a 21 hole course to an 18 hole course. Could use some updated tee signs, but also could use some markers at the pins (and alternate pins) to direct flow to the next tee.

Baskets are moved too often and scouting to find a basket before you throw is tedious and time consuming. I like alternate tees, but switching them around too often is frustrating.

Other Thoughts:

For a less than average player like myself, this is a tough course where getting par on any hole feels great, and a birdie means you win for the day.

I like the challenge of this course. Specifically I like the elevation changes on the front 9.

I would 5 star this course for an intermediate player if there were a bit more consistency in pin placement and better signage. All in all though, this is one of my favorite courses and I'll keep coming back.

Good work Crowley!

Pros:

-Tons of elevation change to challenge your every disc or throw in the bag
-Well Maintained, and clean tee box areas. Trash cans every other or so hole
-Friendly people
-Each hole is unique, various routes to take from either tee pad, and exposure to the elements, i.e. WIND

Cons:

-I did not see a current map (around the parking lot area), or could not get to one on the phone
-Signage, if it has gone from 21 to 18, refer to point above

Other Thoughts:

I would recommend this DGC, I look forward to playing it again when I am back up there.

MIssing Baskets, Poor Signage 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 26, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Some good elevation changes
- Some challenging throws thru trees and hills
- First half is open, second half is more wooded
- Was not busy (Friday evening)

Cons:

- Missing baskets for holes 2 and 3
- Three or four other holes had hand make signage to help direct you to correct basket due to changes/poor planning
- Some holes are poorly laid out and is very confusing the first time played
- One or two holes throw through some truly terrible terrain
- Hole 18 I think was just asinine. Throwing parallel and barely across a creek with a large tree and a BRIDGE (yep!) blocking any approach other than throwing straight into the creek. Skip this hole or use the most beat up disc you have. It is a disc gobbler.

Other Thoughts:

Get the baskets fixed and labeled clearly and this could be a fun course

Pros:

Cement Tee pads on all the holes
2 sets of tees on all the holes
multiple pin positions on most of the holes (that I noticed)
Very good use of the land, up and down the hill
wide open long holes and short technical holes

Cons:

Well it can get pretty muddy, specially with the rain today.

Needs the new tee signs they are working on

some of the holes are sort of close to each other

Not a fan of Mando's.

Other Thoughts:

I had not played this course in probably 10 years. Even the last time I played out here the course had been redesigned from the original layout. However, today all the holes were pretty different from back in those days, it is basically a different course.

In the tournament today, we played all the white tee boxes and most of the baskets were in the shorter position, considering the weather, this made for a fun round.

Several of the holes go up and down the hill that is on one side of the park. There are several holes going though the wooded area, making both hyzer shots and anhyzers.

One of the best courses in the metroplex. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 8, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Top notch new 18 hole design. Course pro and caretakers of the course do an awesome job keeping it clean and manicured (weather permitting) . The Crowley DGC is ran as good as any club anywhere and they put on tons of events and minis. Great course for new players to come out and make new disc golf friends.

Cons:

Might be hard to navigate now for new players, but not for long. Crowley DGC is on top of it and there will be new signs and markers soon.

Other Thoughts:

I encourage everyone to play the different tee pads sometimes. It's like 3 courses in one. Completely different lines and challenges for almost all holes from the different tee pads.

A good challenging course for any player. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 4, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

A well maintained course that has many obstacles that will be thrown at you. This is a good 21 hole course that will challenge even the best player from start to finish. It was a great course to walk and a very nice layout of the course.

Cons:

The only cons that could say about the course is on 18 you have a bridge to contest with, that has people crossing over it. So would be kind of nice to not have to deal with risk of hitting someone while you play. The course has some low lying areas that if not careful after it rains can be a worse nightmare. Also the course could use a rethink on I think 3a or 3b not really sure. Looks more like a short par 2 with the basket surrounded by water.

Other Thoughts:

Well for sure go back and play this course again.

So Much Potential 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 17, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Tons of elevation change
- Multiple concrete teepads on most holes
- Very challenging lines with three distinct tee options
- Great use of an idea disc golf property

Cons:

- Signage inaccurate, needs updating
- Could not find teepad or hole for #6
- High grass, burning nettles
- Difficult to locate pin location from tee pad, signs were usually misleading
- Some holes (#9 for instance) with impossible tee lines
- Several holes under massive power lines, feels cancerous

Other Thoughts:

- This course was very difficult to score. It has so much potential due to the great elevation, creek, and mature trees. Unfortunately, there were some big negatives as well. The layout was difficult to navigate in some places, and the high, stinging grass and general lack of grooming was uncomfortable. If properly maintained, this course could be on par with the likes of Veteran's, Z-Boaz, and Turner, but as it is, it's just not quite on that level. It's challenging enough, but needs some love from the city of Crowley to help it reach it's high potential.

Outstanding! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 21, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Sweet layout! Set inside a spacious park in Crowley, this is a really well-designed course that incorporates the available landscape very judiciously. From wide-open bombs to threading needles through tight lines, this course has something for everyone. In addition to a big arm, you'll need flicks, anhyzers, hyzer-bombs, and (if you're feeling lucky) rollers to go home even on this par 3 course. The often extreme elevation changes require you to consider the line of every shot and the wind adds an extra degree of difficulty what may at first appear to be fairly straightforward (a.k.a. "easy") holes. Pin placements are easy enough for beginners, but the alternate (long) tees, foliage, natural OB, and man-made obstacles provide a huge challenge for experienced players trying to tame this course.

- Solid equipment! Baskets are in excellent shape and are pretty forgiving, teepads are grippy concrete, and the signage at both primary and alternate tees provide great point-of-reference. There are also restrooms, tables, and pavilions available for you to rest your laurels on should you find yourself beat down by this long par 54.

- Scenic! This course offers many picturesque holes set atop hills that run along a creek/mini-river. The course designers really did their job in providing an experience that makes you not only want to come back and do it again, but also leaving enough of an impression to cause any peanut-gallery non-players to want to join you on your next round. Bicentennial Park is really worth getting out of the house for.

- Plenty of parking and a score of alternative activities available for non-disc golfers and the kiddos to do while you're playing your round. Between soccer, picnicking, tree-climbing, and creek exploration, guaranteed your young'uns won't be bored here.

Cons:

- Windy. Texas can be really windy by nature and the wide-open holes showcase that by making errant shots pay dearly if not timed or thrown right. It wasn't too awful bad when I played but I can see it getting fairly ridiculous. Coupled with the elevation changes the wind can turn "an easy par" into a round-ruining double-par bogey (quadruple bogey) pretty easily if you go on tilt and can't cope.

- Navigation. Luckily I played with a local who plays regularly so it wasn't too hard finding where to go next, but we often found ourselves referring to the course map on DGCR in order to find the next hole. The alternate tees, while a nice option, sometimes make it a little confusing.

- Missing baskets. When we tee'd off on #14 we got up to where the basket was "supposed" to be only to find it MIA with no explanation. Not sure if it was stolen or damaged and out for repairs, but it certainly didn't provide any relief from our confused navigation.

- Weird pin placements. There weren't many of these, but #18 sticks out as one. Running parallel to the creek, you have to shoot for a basket that's all-but burrowed underneath a walking bridge. Seems not only odd, but a skosh dangerous for pedestrians. Chuckers need to be extra vigilant here....kids are plentiful.

- No topless Hooters girls frolicking along the #8 fairway.

Other Thoughts:

I was fortunate enough to have played with zbangerbeast, the local course wizard who was nice enough to come out and give me lessons on how to traverse my way through this gem of a course nestled just south of Fort Worth. Playing Bicentennial DGC made me regret even more the fact that I didn't get into disc golf before I got transferred to the east coast. If you're lucky enough to live in the DFW area (or are simply traveling through), I would definitely recommend making the trek to Crowley. It might not end up in your favorites (though depending on your experience it could be the bomb), I think you'll find this course not only challenging, but rewarding as well.

Better buckle up for Bicentennial! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 18, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The Bicentennial disc golf course is often on the tournament circuit for a variety of reasons. The course favors no throwing style, and intermingles wide open holes involving elevation with short heavily wooded technical shots. Water hazards come into play on at least 6 holes depending on the amount of rain and often windy conditions add to the challenge. The baskets are in good shape and the concrete tees on the red and white tees are wide and adequately long. Blue tees are natural and marked by a blue landscaping timber. Bright descriptive signs are in place on all holes. The course is kept in good shape with frequent mowing and trimming. Weekly mini's and an active local club keep the course buzzing with activity.

Cons:

The cons of the course are widely overshadowed by the pros but do impact play. The course is part of a large multi-use park that includes playgrounds, picnic areas and walking areas; this being said there are often people in fairways and by baskets that who are not disc golf knowledgeable. Hole 18 throws over a popular bridge and often there will be fishers or walkers in this area; not a huge problem just something to be aware of.

During the non-winter months watch for snakes along the water and poison ivy in the rough.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 1 is situated on the far right side of the park as you enter. A course sign marks the location.

Terrain is very hilly and exertion level would be considered high.

*Good use of elevation (uphill and downhill shots)
*Multiple concrete tees on almost all of the holes
*Multiple pin locations
*OB plays on several holes to increase difficulty
*Local players are friendly
*Course is kept pretty clean

Cons:

*Course can be difficult to navigate the first time you play. Not all baskets are visible from the tee pads.
*Creek on 12, 13, and 17 is very muddy and smells nasty if you have to retrieve a disc from it
*Neighboring houses are NOT disc golf friendly (due to errant discs landing in their yards or hitting their houses)

*multiple pin settings
*friendly local players
*workout included in course
*plenty of parking and on site bathrooms

*water holes are challenging but disc can be retrieved
*course flows really well with not a lot of long walks from hole to hole
* shade trees on middle holes are great for Texas heat
*21 holes the only non concrete pads are 6 because of a neighbor complaint and teepad moved and 3a which is not always played

Cons:

*not an easy play first go round, even though flow is easy there are a few shots that you may need to walk up and see where basket is
*most of time it is maintained well there has been a few times the city lets hole 7 through 11 really grow up
*some of the holes are almost like playing in a wind tunnel so be prepared as a lot of dirt gets throw up in mid holes
*park is shared area and sometimes people will be oblivious of what you are doing. My biggest issues are on hole 1 and 20 where kids play in creek. Also hole 18 has a bridge in fairway where people sit or stand at to watch you throw. Also there is a stone road that dirt bikers and atv drivers use on hole 5 7 a d 10. Very rarely to they ever notice you throwing.
*physically demanding course not for young disc golfers or if you have physical issues as there is some hiking involved
*creek is a nice play through but back half of creek is mud water and stinks if you have to go in for a disc

Pros:

Very nice course, one of the better courses on the Ft Worth side of the Metroplex, likely the best on the south side, except maybe Z Boaz. A very good variety shots. Open, wooded, uphill, downhill, left and right doglegs. Very few blind shots. Puts the creek into play on a number of holes, with 17 putting a bridge, the creek, trees and elevation all into play.
The park has restrooms on site, as well as picnic tables, pavilions and playgrounds.

Cons:

The sign for 12 (marked as 13) is not accurate at all since the hole was redesigned.
Terrain can be a bit rough at times. A few of the holes have very steep climbs. A number of the holes towards the front of the park can have a lot of non-disc golfers there. If you ask them politely to move they usually get out of your way.

Other Thoughts:

The course was recently partially redesigned. It went from 21 to 18 holes by combining a few holes. The old 1 and 2 are the new 1, the old 3 and 3b are the new 2, the old 19 and 20 are the new 18. Each of the other holes numbers went down one (4 became 3, 5 became 4, and so on). The current signage does not reflect this. But 16 of the holes are unchanged, and the old 1, 2, 19 and 20 we're kinda boring holes anyway (although Hole 2 was the famous "WTF Richard" hole, which we all miss). The course is updated on DGCR, but the old hole numbers are still on the signage. The longer holes arent my personal favorites, but I know that many other players really wanted those longer holes.

The park neighbors some houses. If you put a disc over PLEASE do not climb over the fence. Track down the house via streets and ask for your discs.

Pros:

Multiple concrete tee boxes, elevation changes, scenic, use of creek, good challenge, especially in the woods, Some holes have been set-up to lend themselves toward bigger arms, others toward control shooters. Many holes have multiple routes to choose from. All shots in the bag are needed to score well.

Course is well-maintained. Practice basket available, away from the rest of the course (you can make your own 22nd hole if no one's practicing).

Cons:

A few of the up/down hills are challenging to the body. Two holes (3A & 6) don't have the concrete pads (6 was pulled about 18 months ago). Neighbors along the power line holes (4, 6, 7, 9 alt position, and 10) have had their homes invaded by rude disc golfers who shanked shots; consequently they do not like DG and will complain. Sometimes the park patrons will get in the way, due to the multi-use design.

Other Thoughts:

One of the best most challenging courses in the south side of the Metroplex; gives opportunity to score well.
