Could Use The Space Better 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 21, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Concrete Tee Pads
-Decent Signage
-Baskets are OK
-Park Upkeep is good
-Pars are generous

Cons:

-Layout has too many creek crossings (only 1 bridge)
-Long walk to Tee #1 and from Basket #9 to parking area
-Park is used for several soccer fields, may make #3 unplayable
-No benches / trashcans
-Tee #8 sign missing

Other Thoughts:

Hampton Rotary 4-Way Test DGC is located is East Park on the east edge of Hampton, IA. What could have been an above average park course is hampered by the layout. The course has you throwing across a creek on 4 of the 9 holes. The creek is really only cross-able on the one bridge located about halfway on the creek's trek through the park (nearest #6 on the course). There is a lot of underutilized space on the west side of the park. There is some interest here for more technical shots. #2 is a choice of a layup over the creek with a right fade or a shot through a keyhole of trees just over the creek. #9 is a tunnel of trees to throw through. #5 and #8 have you deciding if you can carry the creek for a basket just on the other side with tee boxes set back from the creek a bit. The layout knocks the rating down a bunch for me, too many many crossings with a lone bridge, makes for a lot of extra walking. The holes themselves have some interest and save the rating a bit. Benches and trashcans would add. This was the 5th of 5 courses I played this day, which may have added to the frustration, but this is not a course to go out of your way for. Pick it up if you're bagging in the area, but I probably won't play again.

Pros:

Easy layout, nice tee pads, and nice baskets. Many of the holes are out in the open with little challenge, but a few have plenty of obstacles.

Cons:

The pars are too easy and when the creek is high its a lot of walking because of single bridge in the middle of the course.

Creek jumper or detour 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 10, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Easy to find, its right along the highway.
-Park seems to be kept up
-Stream does add a challenge, more so on 8 when the basket is about 20 yards passed the creek you throw over
-9 is a skill shot you have to throw through a lot of trees
-good baskets and tee pads
-easy navigation

Cons:

-you either have to walk a long way to get to one of two bridges or hope to find some rocks to help you cross the creek.
-2 and 4 have bad set ups. 2 is either an annoying mandatory according to the sign or an easy 150 foot shot straight at the hole. 4 there is a pointless fence 10 feet from the tee pad you are supposed to throw around.

Other Thoughts:

This is a par 3 course despite what the signs say. Longest hole is just over 300 feet. Its not a bad course, just average. Dont know if I would go too far out of my way to play this course but if was in the neighborhood I'd say its worth playing again. I played on an very windy day which made this course very interesting because of the creek. It made some 200 foot shots scary, but luckily the deepest spot I found the creek was about 6-8 inches.

Pros:

A nicely kept park that isn't very crowded, even on nice days.
Course is well marked
Chances for great scores if you go by the par values on the signs.

Cons:

not very challenging, mostly wide open with very minimal obstacles
Only one bridge to cross the water, holes 2 and 8 feel like they are 5 miles long after crossing the bridge.

Other Thoughts:

The pars are set at very generous values (hole 3 is wide open and 315ft long; par 5). Fun in a small town course, and a great feeling after throwing multiple eagles and a few double eagles!

Dang Stream 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 6, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nothing else in the park interferes with disc golf
-Cool bridge in middle
-Stream provides challenge
-Signs provide info on all the holes
-Nice tees and baskets
-Map and sign at start of course
-Good parking lot and shelter
-Easy to find
-Not much traffic on course

Cons:

-Poor, poor layout. The course crosses a river/stream many times and there is only one bridge across it so lots of extra walking is needed. You also have to cross other fairways when walking to the next hole across the bridge.
-Easy to lose discs in the stream, especially when it is high.
-Not a lot of distance, only challenge is stream
-Not a lot of trees, just a few per hole

Other Thoughts:

The average small town Iowa course. I would play it if in the area but it's nothing special. The stream can provide some interesting shots though.
