This course has a split personality!

Dr. Jekyll:
The front 9 is generally wide open and basically flat. Distances ranging from 200 to 420 feet give power throwers a chance to shine while few trees and no real rough makes this 9 equally welcoming for beginners. Highlights here include #3, "Jail", a long straight drive leading to a basket buried in a tight stand of trees; #5 a blind dogleg right where the pin is behind a thick copse of bushes and trees; and #7 a long drive along a heavily wooded hedgerow with a sharp left to a very tight clearing containing the pin - a bad shot here may leave you making an approach or putt on your knees under a tree.

Mr. Hyde:
The back 9 is heavily wooded with incredibly tight (and sometimes non-existent) fairways and plenty of elevation changes. Several doglegs (almost all lefts), a few blind holes, and a couple of uphill and downhill shots may have you using every shot in your arsenal. Highlights here include #15, a tight uphill; #16, the huge downhill on the sledding hill; and #17, a big sweeping uphill right.

Tee signs at each hole are colorful and descriptive.

No course map, no "Next Tee" signs, and no indication of "Next Tee" on the tee signs made navigation on the front 9 frustrating. The back 9 was better in this regard with several "Next Tee" signs in obvious places. Unfortunately, there's no signage at all to direct you from the front 9 to the back 9. Just keep heading toward the main compound from the #9 basket, past the volleyball courts, then follow the blacktop around the back and to the far side of the Welcome Center. The basket that's visible belongs to #18, so just keep going til you see the #10 tee on your left.

The dirt tee boxes are horrid on the front 9 due to sand being the primary topsoil in that area. They were rutted and loose with poor footing. The darker soil in the woods meant the tees on the back 9 wasn't quite so bad.

Given that this course in located in a church camp, I was beyond surprised to find trash on the front 9. After picking it up and carrying it around for a while, I understood why......not a single trash can anywhere on or near the course, not even in the areas with picnic tables or the shooting range!

The course on the back 9 crisscrosses the hiking paths repeatedly and goes under the high ropes course, so watch for other property users.

During the times the course is open to the public, you have to call first for permission. The woman on the phone was pleasant and helpful. When you arrive, everyone needs to sign into the visitor's book in the Welcome Center, and visitor's badges are required while on the property. Entering the camp's address into Google Maps got me there without a hitch.

The Welcome Center is stunning and well appointed with wireless internet available.

The front 9 holes are VERY beginner friendly. They're all out in the open and commonly and surrounded by just a few trees. They're fairly long distanced and the terrain for the most part is flat as can be.

The back 9 holes are in a dense hilly forest. The trees in the way of each hole make it nearly impossible for any aces despite the fact that the average distance is about 175 feet. The tees are very difficult to find and the paths are not worn in very well. The back 9 are just kind of annoying...

*IMPORTANT!* The back 9 holes start on the OPPOSITE side of the parking lot from where the front 9 start - The back 9 start to the right of the large welcoming sign. Though this course isn't open to the public year round it's still enjoyable and worth playing no matter your experience level.
