Great course drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 27, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful course that is fairly difficult for me at least. Most fairways are pretty tight as you have through thick brush and magnolia trees. The tee boxes are easy to find and while not the best easy to throw from. The terrain is always interesting and creates some uphill shots I wasn't expecting.

Cons:

Some trash due to lack of upkeep but I thought the forest growth mostly was good. Two holes were really close to the road creating a few nerves that a car might sneak up on you. Some dude put his tent two feet away from the basket on 16 and gave us a glare. Guy line touching the basket. Weird stuff

Other Thoughts:

While a lot of wind may cause an unfortunate throw didn't think the water came into play on hole 18.

Decent wooded course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 6, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Marked pretty well
2 sets of tee's marked pretty well
well defined fairways
decent flow, mostly easy to follow

Cons:

Dirt Tee pads
Single chain DISCatchers have seen better days

Other Thoughts:

It's been a few years since the last review of this course. Looks like quite a few things have changed.

No missing baskets, several "next tee sign" signs on the course. All the tee's were marked, both the white and Red were easy to find. I saw several "Blue" markers but I was playing the whites so I didn't really look for them.

This is mostly a wooded course with only a couple of holes in the open. For most of the course, your not going to see anyone other than other disc golfers. Both left and right shots, but not really any 2 drive holes.

Plenty of elevation although not too extreme.

I played in the rain and with the sandy soil, there was not any real mud nor did I have any problems on any of the tee pads except for hole 12.

Would I play here again? Yes, I enjoy playing courses like this. Not too long, shot shaping hole requiring accuracy to shoot well. The type of course I enjoy playing the most.

Lake Lincoln State Park Magnolia Cove 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 5, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Beautiful state park. The course winds through a relatively dense forest area. Baskets 3 and 12 are on the side of roadways in the park. Everything else is fairly rugged. There was virtually no mud or water anywhere. Walking conditions okay, but there are brambles/brush off to side when a disc is lost.

Cons:

Markings are poor. Lady at office had no map. A nice man (Chance) who works maintenance at the park gave us a map. Without that, we would have been helpless. Basket is completely gone on #5. No tee markers on #1, 15, 16 and 18. The map shows throwing across a little bayou on 18, but there was a steel pipe painted white near the pavilion up the hill above 18. Was about 275 feet of so. Guys who can really drive won't be able to use their skills due to dense trees. This course is better for mid-range and putt players.

Other Thoughts:

I asked who maintains the course and was told "a guy comes down about once a year to clean up things". It sounds like basket 5 has been missing a while. We would be happy to volunteer to help with markers, etc. if we just knew who to call. Apparently the park had nothing to do with course maintenance.

Magnolia Cove Disc Golf Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 4, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Multiple tee pads: Gold, Blue, White
-Nice, well kept, state park
-Scorecard and map available at entrance/guard house.
-Benches at several holes
-Minimal traffic (this one is a pro and con)

Cons:

-Park is not on the beaten path takes a little while to get there from the interstate
-Navigation is a bit difficult
-Not all tees are well marked; Blue and Gold especially
-Due to the 'Minimal Traffic' this course has not had the up-keep it needs

Other Thoughts:

There is potential here... but until this course has more regular players, I doubt anything will ever get done.

So...
Take a camping or fishing trip to Lake Lincoln State Park. It's a beautiful place and Wesson is a nice town with good friendly people... and maybe while you enjoy the scenery and hospitality of small town Mississippi you can take a little detour and play the Magnolia Cove Disc Golf Course.

a disc cource thats more like a nature trail 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 30, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Well lets say it. It is a place to play disc golf at and that's the main thing going for it. You don't have to worry about any one being in the way from what I could see it looks like maybe 10 people have played it in the last 10 days. Witch that makes for a peaceful walk. I think this course offers serval tough shots with one tee complete surround magnolia trees I think there are 12 and 3 pipes blocking it. There are also serval 90 degree turns in those wood along with steep drops and tough climbs. Not to mention its on a lake but that wont come in to play unless you cannon it on 18 or the alt. 18 basket is in play where you have to throw over the marsh of the lake. With camping an fishin there are more thing to do other then play dg witch makes it a great family destination. I do plan on playing it again hopefully we can get more player on this beautiful forest course.

Cons:

Thou this course has great potential you can not over look the upkeep issue. I do think if more people played on the course it wouldn't look half as bad as it does. There where no trash cans along the path except by the picnickers and lake that is also where you want to find the bathroom too. The 17 basket was 10 feet from a picnic table that was occupied so I had to skip that hole. Also not many places to sit there are a few but most are at the oddest of places not even by the tees. But other then that no one will be in the way "I guess that's why there are so few benches.". The poor upkeep shows thru out the course there are serval trees laying across the path and watch out for the holes they will be covered by dead leaves. If you lose a disc you will find enough spider webs in the face to want to give up before finding the thorns. Some of the baskets where at mich match heights I don't think they are even concreted down. It was even a little hard to spot at times but maps are at the gate so be sure to grab one because most of the trails are not established enough.

Other Thoughts:

If more people played and loved this course it could easly be a 4.5 for any good player. Thou bring your A game and some old disc for this wooded nightmare.

NDAWOODS!! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 1, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Heavily wooded with some elevation, if you like that. Tight fairways that will challenge rec players and maybe a few pros. This course is at the bottom of my top 10 hardest courses played list, yet the course offers you a fair chance if you are accurate. There are a few chances for an ace, but there is one 130 FT hole that is impossible unless you are God. A few of these holes are long and technical. Some courses listed as heavily wooded still have 3 or 4 open bomb shots. This course has 2. Hole 3 plays along side of the road with the basket tucked back off the road in the woods and (hole 12) which is the same type shot as 3 except this ones 700 ft. with the basket tucked a little deeper in the woods with more of a green around it. One shot from the open into the woods.(hole 1) The other 15 holes are in the woods. There are times during the course you feel like freaking Tarzan. I was afraid that I might actually get attacked by a crazed inbred bigfoot or something. This course will truly make you more accurate or make you buy new discs. Due to the fact that the 5 closest courses are all north off of I-20 and between 45-60 miles away this course obviously gets little play as I was all alone on a beautiful Sunday. If it is a windy day, it does not matter because this course is in the woods where there is no wind. Get a map when you pay your 3 dollars . Look around at the end of every hole and there will be something visible on a tree pointing to the next tees, also look for blue and white tee posts . Along with the map this course is easy to navigate.

Cons:

The upkeep of an all wooded course requires a lot more work. A couple of fairways showed it, but if you take your time you can find a place to throw. Only 1 full sized table to sit and it is right next to a decorated sign that is nailed to a tree reading Rest Area. lol. You have to go spot a couple of holes and a couple of fairways. Not beginner friendly. Bring old plastic unless you are really confident in your accuracy. If you find yourself off the fairway like myself, be very careful because there are holes covered and partially filled by leaves so you can't see some of them. If you demand well manicured or pristine type courses, do not make the drive. This course does need more attention than it receives. This course is so far away from the other courses that I am not sure if there is a local group or anyone that calls this their home course. There is a sign by the boat dock that says beware of alligators. So watch out on hole 18!

Other Thoughts:

I changed my rating because when I played this course originally I had only previously played 10 courses and was blown away more than I should have been. The lack of upkeep also contributed to my decision to lower my rating. It would be an easy 4 if it had concrete Ts and was not so overgrown. when a course has unplayable holes because of upkeep, that's just sad. Especially a wooded course with such nice terrain.
