Fun course with a good mix 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 19, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

A fun course with a decent mix of long and short tees.

Fair amount of trees to make it interesting!

Long tee pads.

The city keeps it in decent shape, for most of the year.

Cons:

No signs on the tee pads, but most of the tees have old carvings on some of the wooden posts on all of the tees, that sometimes show the par and hole number. Without help, our first few times, we got lost.

It could use some alternate tee positions.

It is in a public park so you have to look out for pedestrians on the last stretch of the back nine.

The closest park bathrooms are always locked.

Lake Wichita 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 6, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Concrete tee-pads
Distances marked for most holes
Baskets in decent shape
Variety of shots, there are opportunities to use every shot in the bag
The most wooded course in the area, so there are a few trees to work around.
Hole 17 is one of the most challenging holes in the area.
Based off fun factor, probably my favorite course to play in the Wichita falls area, even if it isn't the best one.

Cons:

No bathrooms
Mosquitoes are a huge problem after a rain
The park doesn't drain well, so lots of standing water after it rains...adding to the aforementioned mosquito problem.
Some layout issues, which can cause safety concerns...2's teepad is inside the putting circle for 1's basket, easy to hit someone with a drive off one if you aren't careful. 6's fairway is also adjacent to 1 and 2 and that could be an issue if you accidently turn one over. 6 and 7 share some parts of the fairway. 17 is really tight and while that makes for a fun hole, if the disc hyzers out it could take out a moving car, as the hole plays along the road. 17 also has a running path cutting through it.
7's line is almost overgrown to the point of not being viable, the only line is a really overstable skip shot (RHBH) and hoping that it stays low enough to get under the trees.
Really crazy pars, I think the real par involves subtracting a stroke from all of the par 4s and 5s. If you play it as all par 3s, its the hardest course in the city.

Other Thoughts:

I really enjoy this course, probably because it has some trees that at least occasionally force you to use shots other than big hyzers. I usually find an excuse to throw all the shots in the bag here.
Hole 1 starts out as a 200ish foot ace run, pretty much a dead straight shot to the basket
Hole 2 is tight tree tunnel, which is deceptive, there is a forehand line (for righties) and a high-flex line for backhanders
Hole 3 is a short tight tree tunnel either forehand or backhand
Hole 4 is a longer hole starting with a tree tunnel that opens up into a field and the basket.
Hole 5 is a tight tree tunnel that plays well for RHFH or a high anny bomb RHBH
Hole 6 is a 450+ foot wide open hole, just grip and rip
Hole 7 is (RHBH) a low skip shot, hoping to get under the trees for a 2 look
Hole 8 is a 130 foot clown's mouth shot through a short tree tunnel, there is a hyzerbomb route if you want to ignore the hole design
Hole 9 is a 300-ish foot shot behind a tree, usually just a straight ahead hyzer.
Hole 10 is a 520 foot shot, that I think is a true Par 4 on the course. It starts with a shot through some trees, up to an open field, through another area with some trees and a basket behind a large pine tree.
Hole 11 is a 270 foot hyzer over a couple of trees
Hole 12 plays 300 feet and for righties is either a gentle turnover or forehand line
Hole 13 plays for a low straight forehand or a high hyzer bomb over the trees
Hole 14 plays along an the edge of an open field and the trees, this is a great hole for a big roller off to the side along the field or a big high turnover shot
Hole 15 is a double mando through the trees up to the basket
Hole 16 is a tricky hole, it plays through a cluster of trees up for about 225-250 feet up to a 150 foot long tree tunnel with the basket at the end. Placement is really important as you want to be at the opening of the tunnel.
Hole 17 is one of the hardest holes in the area and is a long (700+ foot) hole that plays on a narrow fairway between the walking path and the road. The first 300-350 feet are wide open and then there is a drainage ditch and number of guardian trees. For RHBH you really want throw a nice hyzer flip that clears the ditch and finishes right. From there you'll have a relatively routine upshot up to the pin.
Hole 18 throws to a basket up by the walking path across the drainage ditch, it's a pretty straight forward hyzer shot.

What a change 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 31, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Nice long Cement Tee pads
Baskets are still in good shape

Cons:

What a difference 16 years can make, The trees have gotten so big, it has eliminated good lines on most of the holes. The shot on many of the holes now are over the tops of the trees.

Other Thoughts:

I played this course shortly after it was put in for a tournament. All I remember is it being a wide open course with only small trees.

Well that has changed. There is no lack of tree's on the course now, however the course basket locations are the exact same so the original lines are mostly gone.

My biggest complaint on this course is that it seems the local routes for the holes are big arm over the tops of all the tree's.

Tee box for hole one is near the pavilion near the 2nd entrance to the park. You start off with a ace run 200ft hole, but don't let that fool you, it is the easiest hole on the course.

Due to the growth of the tree's, holes like #7 are not what they use to be. Most of the holes, you just need to throw the biggest opening.

JC Park 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 1, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice challenging course.
Have to have every shot in your bag or a BIG arm.
Good mixture of long and short holes
Good Teepads.
Baskets in good shape.
Usually pretty quite.
Friendly Locals.
A few benches around the course.

Cons:

Flat no elevation at all.
Hole 7, 10, 17,& 18 are not visible from the tees.
Hole 7 is poorly designed its just a RHBH hyzer over hole 6's fairway.
Bathrooms are never open.
After hole 1 no trashcans on the course.
Flow is not the greatest so keep an I out for the next tee.

Other Thoughts:

Very solid course for a good challenge.
Not a priority on the cities mowing list so grass can get pretty thick.
Clowns mouth on hole 8 is the best hole on the course. IMO

Pros:

It has open and some technical shots. It is great for the family being next to a park.

Cons:

I wish the city would cut back some of the trees and mow more often.

Other Thoughts:

This is my local place and i love it. It is a great place for newbies and advanced golfers.

Pros:

Nice open course. It was a lot of fun to actually be able bomb for once. It was layed out nicely for what they had. The ground was crazy hard and I had some of the best skips at this course.

Cons:

It was not challenging (still a lot of fun of course!) sometimes had a hard time finding my way.

Other Thoughts:

Good course overall. Nice to learn how to rip it. Had a decent following of players it appeared. Few signs and a tiny bit of work on tee pads would make this course a solid four.

Lake Wichita DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 31, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Good tee boxes (better than lucy's, less dirt on them/posts are are the back of tee box)
-Trees usually give good wind protection on the front 7 if its windy.
-Easiest course in WF area (If you use courses pars)
<1 Mile from my house :)

Cons:

-Hardest course in WF area (if your playing pars as all 3's)
-Lots of trees
-Hole 17 (seriously, it's the hardest hole in WF area)
-Once you move the other side of course on hole 8 the wind is usually a lot worse
-Hole 10 for the reason listed above can really eat some discs up if your not careful.

Other Thoughts:

All in all a pretty good course. If your newer to the game, it's windy, or you just want to play a slightly better course IMO I would recommend you play Lucy Park DGC.

Cons:

Nice Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 16, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

*Good balance of long/short shots
*Requires variety of shots
*Course has fairly good flow
*Friendly local players
*Not a lot of waiting. Course is usually available and if you encounter a group most will let you play through

Cons:

*No elevation at all
*Pedestrians can come into play on holes 16-18 if you have an errant shot
*Finding Hole 7s tee box can be difficult for new players. Hole 7s basket is far from visible from the tee box and sometimes still not visible after the 1st shot.

Other Thoughts:

Nothing very note worthy about this course. Nothing wonderful nothing horrible about this course. I enjoy playing this course because it is the best course in my area. If this course was in the DFW area I would drive past it to play Veterans, Z Boaz, or Crowley.

Not mowed often enough, early spring the bugs/mosquitos are TERRIBLE.

Personal preference/observation - Some holes can be quite challenging (beyond the norm) for a left handed player due to tree growth (and lack of trimming) etc. - better be able to throw a high arching flick/annie or...

Great course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 16, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

This was a great course. Visiting family and decided to get up early an play. The night before brought heavy downpour so I was sceptical. Started on hole 17 near back parking lot A long 610 foot par 5 with interesting shots to avoid trees. I was then pleasantly suprized with each hole . Most pins are very well guarded so I had to use every shot I had . Even had to Tomahawk over few trees and forehand from behind a few others. Despite the heavy rain the course was playable , wet but not muddy. No major water hazards and few places to loose discs. Grass was mowed and all goals in place and good condition. I had a great time.

Cons:

Some of the goals not visible from tee. Hole diagrams at each tee would be nice. Running trail has some runners but also nice pathway for some of the course.

Other Thoughts:

I will plan to play this cousre again next time I am in town. I am used to wide open holes that don't require much accuracy. This coures if played well will challenge you to use some different shots.

wide open with concrete tees, good mix of long and short holes, some trees will come into play but not heavily wooded. It is strung together well and most of the next tee pads are visible from from the previous baskets. Most baskets are also visible from tee pad, you do have to play over some water hazards that get alot worse after a rain,

Vandals keep removing holes, so you may be shooting at a hole that has not basket. Back holes do flood after heavy rain,
