Updated Tee Pads on a Short, Technical Course

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 22, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Well-maintained course that is often dry when others are super wet. Forested holes are kept clear and tree falls and stumps are either cleared or arranged to add complexity. Copious trash cans and neighborhood pride mean this course stays cleaner than most.

Cons:

Many holes are short--under 200' and some tee signs may overestimate pin distance. Parking is disorganized around first tee.

Other Thoughts:

There are many ace possibilities on the course, which features a mix of wooded and more open holes. Tight gaps add challenge to wooded holes, and foot traffic through the public park typically is not a problem. All but one tee (#2) has been updated to concrete. The walk from #14 to #15 is a little longer to get to the last few holes. Small hills through the park add interest to some shots.

quiet city park turns into a disc golf mecca? not quite but fun place for a quick round 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 29, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Well, first off this is now an 18 hole course. So nine extra baskets are a nice thing to have added to any nine holer. The course overall has a good flow to it.

Very good signage at each tee and garbage cans for those that can't understand the concept of carry in/carry out.

Most of the holes will give you a shot at an ace but there are enough longer holes so you can let go with some power behind the shot. Great course to practice your midrange or chase an elusive ace.

The club that installed the other nine really caught some flack from the NIMB neighbors. But the mayor stood behind the project and it's become a great course for a recreational round or if you just want to get in 18 without taking up too much time.

A good balance of left to right, right to left and straight shots. Some fairly wide open holes and some nice technical woods holes.

The addition of the nine holes has definitely helped bring new people to not just visit the course but likely fostered the growth of DG in that of WNY. (That's a good thing!)

Cons:

Perhaps the worst set of tee pads known to man? Not that bad, but from I was told the local boy scouts (when the boy scouts were still in existence) came up with the idea of creating elevated tee boxes that were simply boxed wood filled with dirt. They are uneven, they are rutted, they are just waiting to break someone's ankle. If you're serious about DG and you want to have a good round, these tee pads are so bad you simply can't get into a good rhythm when you're teeing off.
When they installed the nine new Discatchers it would have been nice if they could have added nine new additional fresh and minty baskets as well. Since the course was never played on that much the originals aren't that bad, it just would have been nice if they could have had those ones replaced.

In clearing a few the holes that go through a wooded portion of the park, there are some stumps just about ankle high that again - are just waiting to break an ankle or two.

The parking situation is kinda funky. It sort of feels like you're parking in front of frat house as there is kind of a parking lot but it hold maybe 10 cars at most. (On the flip side - there is parking just to the right of the course so it's very minor, minor con.)

Other Thoughts:

Adding the additional nine holes has turned this quiet city park into a nice disc golf course locale.

This is definitely a beginner friendly course, so some of your better players may want to skip this for something more challenging.

If the break-an-ankle tee pads are ever properly addressed this will be a solid course. They're so bad I have to ding the course a full point. If fixed I will update accordingly. Until then, have fun if you plan to play it, just be careful when teeing off - your ankles will thank you for it.

Nice Little Recreational Course drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 25, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is an updated review now that there are 18 holes....

- Nice mix of park golf and woods golf...though no holes are over 300 feet, you still have some technical lines...
- You can play a solo round in under an hour...
- Now has concrete tees...
- Quite a dry course when others are sloppy...
- Convenience store a block away...

Cons:

- No bathroom other than a port-o-potty almost all the time...
- A few tough tee finds if you don't have a map (especially #14 basket to #15 tee)

Other Thoughts:

Nothing spectacular about this short course in a small park but it is a very good par 3 course...

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 3, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Short simple course great for beginners and first timers.
-Actually can be played as an 18 hole course as well. Head back from tee shooting at basket 9, plays front course backwards basket wise from second set of tees.

-Plenty of potential for aces

Cons:

-The course runs through a public park. Unfortunately some people are oblivious whether they be at picnic tables off of the fairway or walking their dog towards a basket.
-Theres the potential to play an 18 but with only nine baskets in the park there is a potential for a jam up on playing the same hole as someone coming from the opposite direction.
-Dirt Teepads, I'm usual indifferent about teepads but there are a few tees that are clogged up with tree roots.
-No directional signs between holes/course map posted.

Other Thoughts:

It's a small course in a small park. It's also the first course I learned to play on. It may not be ideal but it's always good for a quick 9 or 18 depending on how busy it is that day. I truly enjoy it and wish I knew who I could talk to so improvements could be made.

Is what it is 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 20, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Quick spin and easy bag.
Brings a course to a local neighborhood park that doesn't interfere with the other amenities even though the proximity is close.
Baskets still catch and are not falling over. Not the best, but they definitely work.
Technically there are 18 posted tee signs for the "tee pads" that go to 9 baskets.
No rough which is ideal for beginners.
Plenty of actual routes that have to be played for plenty of ace runs.

Cons:

The tee pads are just ruts in the ground.
The signs are not super easy to see as they are just little 3 inch blocks of wood with a number on them nailed to a tree. (The front nine and back nine are at least different colors)
Flat course and kind of bunched up. Certainly it would be annoying to try and play the "18 hole layout" when there were other people playing here.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a perfectly adequate local course that I'm sure if I lived in the neighborhood, I would walk to often. If you are looking to increase your course count and are in Buffalo then it's a real quick bag and easy on and off. Nothing special here though, so don't get your hopes up.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 24, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Ace runs throughout
- Someone has spent lots of time with small signs for the tee #s and the next tee arrows. Note there is no traditional tee sign but they aren't needed. I don't need to know if this one is 155' or 165'.
- A good place for a putter only round (i ran through throwing 2 putters to get a quick 18 in).
- Virtually no chance of lost discs
- Course does a pretty good job avoiding playgrounds & side walks for such a small park.
- A nice easy course to bring a true beginner to.

Cons:

- Very short (<200' avg) and not much challenge

Other Thoughts:

- There were signs for a second set of tees for 10-18 playing to the same baskets. I didn't have the time to try them so I can't comment on quality. This could be a pro if done well....or a con if not...especially if there were multiple groups playing it could get messy.
- I played mid day during a school day so the park was almost completely empty. I'd imagine during peak times there could be a lot of activity to avoid throughout the park.
- Overall - this course is executed well for what it was intended - just be sure you view it for what it is - a short, easy 9. Looking to have a ton of ace runs, great. Looking to get a beginner out for a fun time, great. Want a challenging day of DG....not so much.

Whats going on here? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 29, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is 5 minutes drive from my home. It is a great course to practice mid range and putter shots, the inexperienced can throw drivers. The elevation of the park lends it self to be much more dry than other parks at the same time of year. I suggest any beginners or players looking to practice their short game to come play here.

Cons:

I am not sure what is going on with trying to turn this park into an 18 hole course. Most holes have overlapping fairways. Also using the same 9 baskets for a "back 9" makes no sense. There are two different groups of people placing signage to designate where the tee boxes are which also is confusing. One has you playing against the grain (using basket 9 as the basket for "hole 10" and so forth). Then there are spots for blue tees? What the hell? This park is far too small and "homey" feeling to be going this way.

Other Thoughts:

Great park to practice. Some people who play here are rude, while others are very friendly. There is also usually a great deal of children and dog walkers, as well as neighborhood kids all over the park.

read my "other thoughts" first 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 24, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-it's a short little par 3 that has improved since the last time i attempted to play here. i was actually able to navigate my way around the now 9 holes (as MattK indicated there were only 8)
-it's free to play and park
-this is an okay course, with some woods. it would be an nice place to work on your short game

Cons:

-Several fairways overlap and intersect with the previous or upcoming fairway
-no real tee signs to speak of, the few that remain simply indicate which hole number you're starting from, but there's no distance or direction to the pin
-there is no variation between each hole, each one seems to be a straight fairway. an improvement could be the addition of some hyzer or annie holes, or the addition of some OB. there is also no elevation change on any of the holes

Other Thoughts:

-I first played this course around the same time as MattK, so i found no need to review it because his review was perfectly accurate, but after reading ssejhill's review i decided it was time for another visit.
-Today i measured the holes from pad to pin, as accurately as i could since there isn't much signage, but the worn dirt pads made it easier to navigate then it was 3 years ago.
-This course plus Payne Park just down the street does make for a passable 18 hole course
-while it is a great improvement from the last time i was here, it still needs work.

Good for prcatice and the young set 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 30, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Quiet park with newer DISCatcher baskets. Enough trees to give you a little challenge. Older trees create some great shade for a hot summer day's play.

Cons:

No par(s) on any of the holes. I did some rough measuring and the holes varied from about 150 ft up to about 280 ft. I hope some comes out with a wheel and gets some better measurements.

Other Thoughts:

The course has been recently been "signed" to make the holes a bit better. You'll find the #1 "tee/pole" near the corner of Schenck and Fassett (NE corner of the park). When you get to the 1st basket the "tee/pole" for hole #2 will be very close by. The holes aren't so far apart that you need a map, but it would be helpful. Just look for Basket #2, it will be labeled and you can see it from the "tee/pole".

Nice Baskets, good practice course. i think it is suited more for beginners or younger players. dont need a long arm to play.

Cons:

course is a bit hard to figure out.once you get to hole 3 and beyond wood on trees with directions are posted.i will try to put up some tee marker when "i" figure out the rest of the course. I did like it though my 12 yr. old son liked it and he felt a bit competetive on it as opposed to the bigger courses where you need a strong arm to compete.

Nothing to see here...move along 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 22, 2007 Played the course:never

Pros:

The Park itself is a nice place, with good shade, a playground and such. The baskets that are here are usable.

Cons:

Well, there really isn't a disc golf course here, just disc golf baskets, without tees or any course markings. I think there are supposed to be nine, but I only found eight, and I'm not sure because I could not find numbers on them. There mysteriously happens to be one Discatcher amongst the Mach type baskets in the town's other disc golf course, and if by chance the remains of this course are being cannibalized to keep the other little course in town viable, it's just as well I suppose.

Other Thoughts:

This park has the disc golf version of a large putting green with lots of holes in it. If you happen to have another reason to visit here you can bring your discs and practice. But if you're looking to play a round, go anyplace else.
