Home Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 21, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Great Setting, park is great
-Typically pretty open, not too many players at one time
-Quick play, holes are a little short, but provide a good enough challenge, even after many plays

Cons:

-Hole 2 is a little confusing, I've thrown at Hole 3 when I'm standing on the second tee more than once
-Hole 6 is very biased against lefties, which makes it frustrating to play with my brother

Other Thoughts:

I really hope the rumors about this going to 18 holes are false, there just isn't room for that kind of course, unless they're going to go to a completely different part of the park. 9 holes suits it perfectly.

Soon to be 18 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 27, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Nice, clean 9 hole course with various shots.
-Cool downhill shot on hole 7, with the creek wrapping around basket.
-Creek runs through course, comes into play on a few holes.
-Cement tee pad and sign with distance, par and basket loction at every hole.
-Two disc retrieving poles posted by the bridge and on a tree if your disc lands in the creek.

Cons:

-The tee sign on hole 9 was missing.
-None of the holes really test your arm for distance.

Other Thoughts:

I was passing through and decided to try this free course. It looks like they are going to add 9 more holes. Holes 10-18 have tee pads in but no baskets yet. I would rate this course higher if they had other 9 baskets in. However it looks like the back 9 tee pads are gravel. Also, I always appreciate a course that provides trash containers. 5 gallon buckets are posted on each tee pad sign. If you are passing through the area it's worth the stop to play a fun 9.

Nice, short course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 31, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Fun little 9 hole course in a very small public park. The course uses the creek that traverses through the park very nicely. I don't remember the hole numbers (the starting point was a little confusing - start near the big monument), but there was one hole that went over the creek twice (about 260 feet), and one hole that went downhill along the same creek and was 320 feet. Both of these holes were extremely neat and used the creek to maximum effectiveness. Hole 7 was a neat downhill, short hole - the green was surronded by the creek with the front of the green the fairway to the hole. There were also handy poles near the creek if you did throw into the creek.

Cons:

9 holes would have been sufficient for this small park, but for some reason the course is being expanded to 18 holes. Unfortunately this will make this course flat out dangerous and will take away from the existing holes because some of the fairways seemed to almost intersect other fairways. The back nine holes and designed and poles are in the ground as of May 31st, but this addition will hurt the rating, in my opinion. Most of the addition holes were under 200 feet, with some being under 150 feet with no real challenge. One hole was about 100 feet to a basket just across the creek, but offered no challenge whatsoever. While the existing 9 holes offer some fun shots, the rest of the holes are fairly bland with no true challenge. Hole 1 has a nice monument near it but wasn't anything too special. The navigation also gets a little difficult, and the baskets weren't in the best of shape.

Other Thoughts:

The park does well what it has (small park, the baskets were probably donated) but the course should have just stayed a nine hole course. The back nine will literally be a waste of time and will be dangerous as it will be very close to existing fairways. The back nine also looks to add no challenge. So while the front nine offers some neat holes, there are also a few bland holes and the addition of the back nine takes away from the front nine.

The upgrades need help! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 27, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

New tee signs. 5 gal. buckets, for trash,on tee post. Concrete tee pads. Expanded to 18,also see"con". Well placed poles for getting your disc out of the water or trees. Look for them on #2,#7 clipped on a tree also on shelter. Org.9 layout made for a decent beginner course. No underbrush, use of creek, low canopy shots, rolling terrain and mature growth. Active club Montgomerycountydiscgolfclub.ning.com

Cons:

As of this posting date the "back 9" are poles about 4 ft high, not sure when the baskets will be installed. No information board. Mach 1? Baskets need inner set of chains. Org. 9 hole layout is short, but interesting. The club has added another 9. Making it more dangerous, crossing a fairway. I believe it was from #17 tee crossed over #6 fairway. No benches, but it's a short course and there is a shelter with picnic tables.

Other Thoughts:

A local I played with told me that the club has been working on the course adding another 9. This is usually a plus but the layout is making it a shorter, more dangerous course. He also said that they have a layout of another 9. In a different but close area of the park. First, Why put 9 more holes in a small area that already has short 9 holes? Then plan a layout in a different area too add another 9? Redesign the entire course, include all possible park land. Keep it an 18 hole course, have two sets of tees. Just my .02

Decent park course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 23, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The course plays through a very pretty park with mature trees and a small creek running through the middle. A few holes play along the creek, with a couple pins very close to the edge of the water. This adds a lot more risk than most 9 holers have, and made it a lot more interesting. There were long poles in spots along the creek to retrieve discs, and the bottom was sandy and clean making it an ok place to wade in to feel around for them.

The fairways were grassy and well maintained, with scattered mature trees on most. There were a couple open holes, and a hole with a low ceiling and more trees to avoid for some variety. The mature trees make for some good obstacles to shape lines around on many holes, and offer different ways to throw most holes. There were a few holes with some minor elevation changes to add a little more interest and variety.

Cons:

The course is fun the first time around, but it just doesn't have enough going on to keep you coming back. Most of the holes were in the same distance range, so you won't really be tested on different lengths of drives here. All the holes are reachable off the tee, so if you drive well you'll never need an approach game. Most holes don't force a specific line, so you won't need very many different shots to be successful here.

The park was busy with other uses, and many people didn't seem to know about the course or the danger of hanging out on the fairways. Many children were crossing the fairways to play in the creek, and the spots they chose to play were definitely in danger of errant shots. There were a couple odd spots for navigation, with poor flow and no next tee markers we had to do a little wandering the first time through.

Other Thoughts:

As 9 hole courses go, this one is quick and short, but definitely has some fun factor especially with the water hazard. Beginners will find most holes a reasonable length, with no rough, but the creek can be a little intimidating if you don't want to get wet. More advanced players won't find a lot of challenges, especially after one round to figure the course out, though there are some fun shots.

This course is definitely worth a quick stop if you're passing through. It's not really worth repeat trips though, there's just not enough variety or challenge to bring an out-of-town player back again.

Simple 9 Hole Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 4, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Course has some nice shots tucked into a pretty park. A creek winds through the course making for some challenge and a nice backdrop to some of the holes. Elevation change on a couple of holes makes for nice change of pace in course. This is a really nice course for a 9 hole course

Cons:

The course was difficult to navigate. Not clearly marked when I played making holes difficult to find. I also played obviously during a school cross country practice which made things even more difficulty. Would be nice to have dual pads to make this an 18 hole challenge.

Beautiful Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 21, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course challenges players with the many trees and the creek. Pin placement is excellent as few are just out in the open.

Cons:

Only 9 holes and the course is short, only one par 4.

Other Thoughts:

The park is beautiful. An excellent place to practice par threes.

I played this course while on a business trip. I played it early & there was nobody there. I really needed a local to show me around.
