First Time Playing 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 31, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Cement tees at each hole
-Functioning baskets at each hole
-fairly easy to locate the next tee
-a couple holes go over the creek (kids enjoyed going into the creek to retrieve lost discs!)

Cons:

-Not every tee is clearly marked, missing markers or faded.
-Some tees have you playing over walkways or other areas of the park in use.

Other Thoughts:

I use to come to this park as a kid and was excited to get to play disc golf here. I've never played disc golf before except a couple times as a kid.

I played with some of my family (2 adults, 2 teens, and 2 kids). We were all new to Disc Golf. We all found the course challenging, especially the tees over the creek and nearest the walkway. It was enjoyable but the teens and kids were getting tired of it about halfway through. Us adults will play disc golf more and try out some other courses in the area.

Fun At Times, but Danger Lurks Everywhere... 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 10, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Minerva's disc golf course plays through two connected parks; Bicentennial Park and Veteran's Memorial Park. The course is made for beginners and plays along trails and activity areas.

+ All of the tees are concrete, and the baskets are in good shape and catch well. There's a permanent restroom and a large parking lot right by the first tee.

+ There's a few fun holes as long as the park isn't too busy. Minus the danger, #4 and #7 were pretty fun holes. Both played over the creek with sharp turns and a tough pin position.

+ Easy to navigate, as most tees are very close to the previous basket.

Cons:

- The course is extremely (yes, it's bad) dangerous. 8 out of 9 holes play over or very close to the walking path. #4 is a blind throw around a sharp corner over a path.

- #8 is hilariously bad, and might be the worst hole I've played to date. It's a random 500 footer that plays over/right next to several hazards, I'll name a few;
* Walking Path
*Basketball Courts
* Playground
* A ball court for a game of some kind
* The tee for #4
* Several benches

- Beginners might want to skip the water holes, because newbies are almost guaranteed to lose a disc. I played after an inch of rain, so maybe it's usually a clear stream.

- A few tee signs are missing, and a few are barely readable.

Other Thoughts:

You'll wanna skip Minerva unless you're just bagging courses. It's very dangerous, and not worth the time unless you play during a low popularity time.

Fun course, awareness required 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 23, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

- The course is in a very nice city park, playing across a wide, clear creek. The creek didn't appear to be very deep when I was there, but the water was fast-flowing.
- The tee pads are concrete, and are nice and flat.
- The baskets are in good shape
- Tee signs show route to basket and the direction to the next tee pad.
- The course makes good use of the creek and trees available, making for a quick and fun round. Most of the holes play straight or straight-to-right, but encourage diversity in shot type. Several basket locations are dangerously close to the water, leading to some risky birdie putts.

Cons:

My main complaint is the potential safety issues.
- The course mostly plays along a paved walking trail, so all players need to stay aware of others using the park. I played on a weekday morning, and there were several times when I had to wait for walkers to clear the area. Surely it would be much worse at other times.
- There are also several areas where you need to be aware of other disc golfers on the course. Hole #4 plays toward the tees for both #5 and #7. And hole #8 plays back past #7 basket and #4 tee (and approaches #3 basket).

Other Thoughts:

With the creek in play on several holes and the necessity for accuracy in a busy park, this is not a very beginner friendly course. But as a low-level intermediate player, my round consisted of Drive, Layup, Easy Putt on almost every hole. I had birdie opportunities on #4 and #7, but with the baskets being so close to the creek, I opted for a safe layup and easy par.

Hole #1 - The tree closest to the tee pad in the course photos has been cut down, opening up a clear shot to the wrong basket (#9). The correct basket is straight ahead through the gap, on the far end of the cluster of trees (and not visible from the tee pad).

Hole #2 - The tee sign is missing. The tee is straight past the first basket at the end of the line of trees, and the hole plays down the row of trees and to the right.

Family Friendly Rating - 4.0
PROS: With the flat terrain and the walking path, it is easy for a stroller or young players to get around the course. There's a very large and diverse playground that would keep most kids occupied for quite some time. There is a porta-potty on site.
CONS: The playground isn't easily visible from the other side of the creek (holes #5-6 especially). The porta-potty is better than nothing, but isn't ideal for all situations. As stated earlier, the setting requires awareness and accuracy, and the creek poses a big risk for young arms.

Small but Fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 22, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Plenty of parking
- Playground for the kids, base ball, tennis, basketball, pavilions & grills. Just a good place to bring the family.
- Bathrooms located at Hole #1
- Entrance is marked by a sign for the park
- Excellent concrete tees!
- Accurate Tee signs with distances
- Baskets are in good condition and well labled
- The course flows very nicely. Hole #1 starts only a few feet from the parking lot and Hole #9 ends at the parking lot. The only time that there is a bit of confusion is the transition from Hole #7 to #8. Once you finish Hole #7 you walk away from the general direction toward the tennis courts to find Hole #8's Tee.
- There is a mix of shots required here. #1 requires you to drop a light shot behind a group of trees while staying under the branches in the fairway. #2 requires to go far around a row of trees while getting UNDER or around some very low branches off the tee (may be a perfect spot for a roller). #4 is a very sharp right with thick rough straight ahead and water to the right if you turn too hard. You have an open ceiling on #4 so you can do whatever you feel comfortable doing to get over the low trees or around them. #7 has you launch over tall rough, over the water, then turning right toward the basket. #8 tricks you into thinking you need to bomb your biggest drives, but RHBH drivers here are in danger of fading into the water on the left.
- Very nice upkeep here. I have only played this course once but it has the appearance of being well mowed all the time. And of course you gotta love the Tank by Hole #6 Tee.
- The water hazard provides a fun obstacle

Cons:

- No map available
- Could use a next tee sign from Hole #7 to #8
- 2500 feet for 9 holes is rather short. There are only two holes over 300'. I will say that the land was used to its fullest here, there just wasn't much land to use.
- On a nice Summer day, the walking path was incredibly busy and we had to wait numerous times for people to pass. This can take a while because a few holes throw along the path so you have to wait for a looooong opening in between walkers to safely throw.

Other Thoughts:

- Standard flat park with only a few trees and the playground for the landscape. But it is a pretty park so I wont list this as a Con.
- Basket #4 was missing. I won't list this as a Con because I'm guessing it was stolen.
- This course may not be challenging but it is a very fun time. I definitely recommend for beginners.
- The most challenging hole is Hole #4 (see above for a description of this hole)
- My favorite hole was #7 (see above for a description of this hole).
- This is not a destination course but it was my favorite course of the day (we also played Tank Run & Wildwood). If I find myself in the area I will play this course but I will not make a long drive to it again.

And Singing Fun, Fun, Fun 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 3, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

~Pleasant layout w/ variety
~Great concrete tee pads
~Adequate signage, easy to navigate
~Cool little park
~Fun to play

Cons:

~Most holes are under 300' and pars are a dime/dozen
~Intermingled w/ walking path and other amenities
~Short 9 creates too quick of a round, wanted more holes

Other Thoughts:

Stopped by on my way down to Carrolton and had time for an afternoon nine. Overall I found this course extremely fun and quite enjoyable. Conditions are good and all of the baskets are currently in the ground. Shot even par on my first visit with a few birdie opportunities and never any worries about making bogey, because of this the course will likely play too easy for regulars. On the other side all of the holes had a technical aspect mixing mature trees, doglegs, water, a bridge, tennis court and a winding walking path which created good variety and the need for some decent skill. I will make sure to stop by for a quick nine whenever I am in the area, it really is a good fun course and with Malvern only 5 miles away you can get a solid mix of 18 holes.

Target Audience? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 29, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

The long concrete tees are quite nice.

Cons:

Single tee/single pin position. Many throwing lanes (some blind) near to other park users. Basket-4 missing. Sign-2 missing. A bit right-turn heavy.

Other Thoughts:

This is an odd course - not sure for whom it is designed. The concrete tees are top quality, but the signs are old. The distances are variable, but the elevation change is non-existent. Trees/small woods force some shot-shaping on most holes, but walking paths and other-use areas often come into play. Many baskets are mostly unguarded, but two are placed quite close to a wide and fast-running creek (more like a mini-river).

Plays in a counter-clockwise direction, with basket-4, holes 5&6, and tee-7 across the bridge. Most visible basket from tee-1, close and to the left, is actually #9 (remember this when you're at tee-9) - basket-1 is at the end of the row of trees going away from the teepad. Tee-8 is near the outfield fence.

Difficult course to recommend, as there are features that are both well, and poorly, suited to all level of players.

Small and Fun 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 4, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Hole 2. Awesome sweeping anhyzer drive.

-Fun course, though small / easy. Should make plenty of deuces. Good beginners course.

-Nice atmosphere. Clean park with basketball court, walking track, tennis court etc. Well maintained.

-High quality teepads and baskets.

-Tank!

Cons:

-Park will likely have joggers, kids playing, people walking dogs etc. Still very playable but might have to wait a minute a few times during your round.

-Hole 6 it can be easy to toss into someone's backyard if your drive fades right.

-Not very challenging overall.

Other Thoughts:

Not a bad course, but not amazing either. Pretty easy overall. If you live nearby check it out, or if you're heading out to Malvern you might as well stop by here too, not very far apart. Not worth driving too far to only play this course, but a fun 9 if you're in the area.

Unique course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 26, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

The 9 holes offer you a varied experience. Some are straight shots with trees in the way, others are over water or around a basketball court. Good use of the natural features to make a fun course.

Cons:

Park is busy and many other activities are always taking place. Must watchout for joggers, basketball players, dogs, water.

Other Thoughts:

Signs are helpful, but on hole #1 the pin is behind a group of trees, it is easy to mistake the pin that you see way out there as the first pin but it is not. The sign reads something like 200 and some odd feet and is correct, make sure to locate the pin behind the end group of trees. Course flows smoothly from on to the next all the way back to the front parking area.
