Located on a college campus and course plays on a heavily wooded are with elevation changes. There are a few holes that you throw from the top of the hill and just let it fly. Fun to watch. The Pine trees and other bushes come into play on nearly every hole and add a lot to the challenge. Some holes are very heavily wooded without a distinct fairway to throw for, but enjoyable non the less. Terrian is rocky, which adds it't own challenge. Large cement teepads are standard and baskets are in good shape. Navigation wasn't too much of a challenge due to the fact that the baskets are placed closely to the nest teepad. Fair amount of shorter holes that are either a slight hyzer/anhyzer that makes birdies a possiblity on several holes. No hole is very difficult but the challenge is there for the other holes. Though it is on a college campus, it is somewhat isolated so other people are not a factor in your teeshots.

First off, I am reviewing essentially a 12 hole course. The course is part of an older course on campus that is "temporarily" placed due to construction. If and when it will join up to the rest of the newer course has yet to be decided. Finding this course was very frustrating and there is no parking avialable unless you have a special parking permit. Some of the signs on the holes are a little worn and I believe they don't show the location of the next teepad. Enough trash on the course that I noticed it as an eyesore. Construction is still going on around the site. Single teepads with a few holes having multiple pin placements, but not on every hole.

I was very frustrated in finding this course and parking issues, but once I started playing, I rather enjoyed some of the holes. Nice tall pine trees, cool mountain air and a little secluded from campus made for a good round. I rated this course on the 12 hoels design that is currently in place. You play an additional required holes for the full 18. Hopefuly the construction will end soon and they go back and reinstall this course as it should be. Then it deserves to be re-reviewed, but not sure when to expect that. If I was a student living on campus, this would be a place I would spend a lot of time playing at. If you want a complete course, Thorpe park about 1.5 miles away or McPherson Park about 2 miles away are both incredible courses that should not be passed up.

This course had a great mix of easy and tough holes. Elevation changes, trees, etc. The only thing missing was some sort of pond shot.

Last I heard, the course got redesigned. So my review is on the old 18 layout that was pretty kick ass.

I got to play this course a few years back. It is a precise and technical course with fairways cut through the heavy pine forest next to NAU. I played it in the summer and it was cool and windy. Without a map it was still pretty easy to find our way around. Many cool changes in elevation make this course very different from Phoenix-area courses.

Beds of pine needles on the ground tend to kill your skip shots. Not much chance to roll.

I don't know what the parking situation is but if you are going to risk parking without some kind of permission or permit - I recommend going when the students are not in session.

This is a peaceful and quiet course. very nice.

The New NAU course is an extremely challenging course that winds it's way through the woods on campus. It's got a lot of variety, some nice open long holes, some very tough ones that go downhill through the woods in a narrow lane, A few that shoot way uphill almost out of site. There are no gimme holes on this course. You work for every shot.

Half of it's gone. I'm not a student at NAU so I'm not really in the loop, but from what I can gather they have the new course down to 9 holes and have placed six other baskets back on the old course sites. I'm not sure what they are going to be doing. Best bet is to email the guys at the Flagstaff discs golf club for an update.

Some other cons for this course is it gets crazy busy in the afternoon and there is a lot of litter. Also I'm not sure where you can park without an NAU pass. The cops were giving out tickets to people without passes so I just started riding my bike there.

I hope they don't close down this course for good. Or at least reopen the old NAU course. Cross your fingers.
