Pros:
-Baskets OK
-A little elevation to work with
-Quiet Park
-Quick play
Cons:
-Grass tees (no definitive tee for #1)
-Tee marked with single post, some with hole #, some with handwritten distance
-#8 works over a ball field (though it looks unused in a while)
-Locals seem to think old layout was better
Other Thoughts:
The City Park on the east side of Olin, IA is host to the Olin DGC. Between seeing info here and a quick talk to some locals walking in the park, the current set up was redone a couple of year ago. Now staying in the back half of the park, the course starts at the shelter at the far south end. There is some gentle elevation to work around and a few trees. Only one hole here is over 400' (#4) and it is a shot down a slight hill. #5 is a squeeze between the ball field and the road. #6 is a nice shot from the road into the small valley. #8 shoots over the outfield of the ball field. The ballfield seems a little overgrown to have been used much, so that probably doesn't come into play. If it were in use, #5 would be tricky (staying away from those watching the game) and #8 would be unusable. #2, #3 and #9 do play over the park road. Definitely a beginner course, big arms would be bored here. Park was pretty quiet the couple of times I've been here, just a few pedestrians or a few vehicles to watch out for. Overall, reasonable for a small-town park course. If I lived in town, would probably squeeze in a quick 9 ever now and then. Olin is not really on a major highway, so it's a bit out of the way. OK for a bagger, not really one to go out of your way for, though. I probably won't play again.
