Re-done, but still just...meh

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 7, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Baskets OK
-A little elevation to work with
-Quiet Park
-Quick play

Cons:

-Grass tees (no definitive tee for #1)
-Tee marked with single post, some with hole #, some with handwritten distance
-#8 works over a ball field (though it looks unused in a while)
-Locals seem to think old layout was better

Other Thoughts:

The City Park on the east side of Olin, IA is host to the Olin DGC. Between seeing info here and a quick talk to some locals walking in the park, the current set up was redone a couple of year ago. Now staying in the back half of the park, the course starts at the shelter at the far south end. There is some gentle elevation to work around and a few trees. Only one hole here is over 400' (#4) and it is a shot down a slight hill. #5 is a squeeze between the ball field and the road. #6 is a nice shot from the road into the small valley. #8 shoots over the outfield of the ball field. The ballfield seems a little overgrown to have been used much, so that probably doesn't come into play. If it were in use, #5 would be tricky (staying away from those watching the game) and #8 would be unusable. #2, #3 and #9 do play over the park road. Definitely a beginner course, big arms would be bored here. Park was pretty quiet the couple of times I've been here, just a few pedestrians or a few vehicles to watch out for. Overall, reasonable for a small-town park course. If I lived in town, would probably squeeze in a quick 9 ever now and then. Olin is not really on a major highway, so it's a bit out of the way. OK for a bagger, not really one to go out of your way for, though. I probably won't play again.

Just OK 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 30, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Very hard to lose a disc here
- Baskets catch well
- Some elevation changes and good use of limited space
- Credit to the small town of Olin for even having a course

Cons:

- No tee pads
- Only sign posts with hole number, no par or yardage
- Baskets to not have hole numbers on them
- All holes are approximately 300 foot par 3's
- Very little shot variety

Other Thoughts:

If you lived in, or near, Olin, you'd probably play here regularly, since there's not a lot else close. But, this is not a course you should go out of your way to play. Kind of run down and not a lot of variety in holes, shot-making, etc.

Small town course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 17, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice quiet park with easy parking. First hole right by the entrance and then the rest of the course is fairly easy to follow. Large posts in ground are easy to see. Large trees add to the beauty and challenge on some holes. Decent mix of short/long and right/left shots. Baskets were well placed trying to get the most out of the terrian.

Cons:

Just not a big fan of these baskets, although they are in great shape, they just seem cheap. I would have liked better teesigns with distances. The challenge factor here is low.

Other Thoughts:

For a town the size of Olin, population about 750, it is surprising that they have a disc golf course. They should get points for that right? Anyway, not a bad little course for a newer player or just a play to throw some discs for a good time. Need a challange, then look elsewhere.

nothing special 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 25, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nine holes of disc golf with baskets in the ground.
Unworn tees mean you can play a relaxing round of disc; without course being crowded.
Decent design with what they had to work with.
Course a little better than nearby Westview Park (9) in Platteville, Wi.

Cons:

No course signs; just post in ground with tee number routed and painted black.
Dirt tees.

Other Thoughts:

You won't want to make a special trip here; that's for sure. However, as a course between other courses, during a trip; and simply to cross one of the list; there's nothing wrong with this little course.
