Nice City Park Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 21, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Concrete Tee Pads
-Nice Signage
-Some interest with trees
-Good risk/reward hole (#5)
-Benches / a few trashcans

Cons:

-Tee pads oddly shaped, a little short
-Tee Sign #2 missing
-Walking Path in play on #4, 5, 7, 8
-Shelter in Play on #3, and 7

Other Thoughts:

River DGC is located in Belmond River Park, near the center of Belmond, IA. A fairly typical city park course with mostly straightforward lines with some trees in play. Hole #5 gives more of a risk/reward to a blind basket and #9 shoots through 2 lines of trees. The signage here is interesting. It is large with good detail and something to say on each (see pictures). Sign for tee #2 is missing and the sign for #8 was very sun bleached. My concern here is the other park activities. Shelters come into play on a couple of holes and a walking path rolls right through the middle coming into play on 4 holes. I played on a Friday afternoon with a relatively quiet park, a few pedestrians. I can see it being an issue during more peak times. The path and shelter issues keep the rating down for me. I did enjoy my round and would play again, if in the area.

Pros:

Nice tee pads and signage. Good easy to follow layout. Located by a gas station for restrooms and refreshments. The pars were set right.

Cons:

parking was right behind a basket and my car was hit a few times, but nothing serious.

Small town Iowa 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 10, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Very well upkeep
-Signs were big, nice, and very detailed.
-Good tee pads
-A couple of holes play along the river, but far enough away it shouldn't be a problem unless you really miss your shot.
Fairly easy to find from the road. Just make sure you go the park part and not the RV part...but at the same time you could fly by it if you are not looking.

Cons:

- I didnt like how close it ran to private property on 6 or the one room schoolhouse on 7. Not much they could do about it because of space, but i dont like going into someones yard to get my disc.

Other Thoughts:

It was a nice little course. A little different than others. It would be worth playing again, but I wont go that far out of my way to play it. Some holes did have some minor challenges, but playing all par 3's you could easily shoot under par.

Nice stop. 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 17, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very nice little 9 hole course. I enjoyed the round, and would happily stop in for another quick 9 holes.

Tees. Concrete tee pads with very nice signs diagramming each hole.

Baskets. Nice Chainstar baskets, all in good shape.

Amenities. Nice park, ample parking, map at the start with hole distances, plays around a convenience store, so you could stop in for a soda after hole 5.

Variety. I used a decent variety of shots and discs, though most holes had straightforward lines, there was enough obstacles to keep it interesting, my favorite being hole 9 a "tunnel" variety shot with small trees lining both sides of the fairway.

Ace/Birdie opportunities. Each basket was reachable in one, they weren't gimme birdies, but the opportunity is there.

Not crowded. I played on a Tuesday evening and didn't see a single other person.

Navigation. The map provided at the beginning, huge signs marking the tees, and intuitive flow made this an easy course to play as a first timer.

Cons:

Short. A couple holes were approaching 300 feet, most were around 200 or so.

Finding the course. The course info page said at the intersection of 69 and main, the parking lot is actually south of that on the other side of the buildings, Google maps shows this course on the other side of the river, which was not true at all, I had to drive around a bit to find the course.

Other Thoughts:

Very nice 9 hole detour, I would recommend it if passing through the area, stop in for a quick 9, or play a few rounds, it would be rather worthwhile. I wouldn't go too far out of my way for this one though.
