Longer Course in the Floodplain 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

+Nice baskets
+Great length and variation of length
+Some mature trees to provide obstacles. A few early shots had interesting low ceilings.
+Concrete tees (mostly buried under flood residue)
+You probably won't lose a disc here.
+It was easy enough to find my way around here despite the lack of signs.
+Probably not a busy course at all.

Cons:

-The signs are good looking but pretty much worthless, especially on blind holes.
-You cross the road or play near it a few times during the round. It is easy to throw onto it while people are driving by.
-There is no elevation here at all. It is a flood plain.
-Most holes were longer than I like but not long enough to be two real shots. They were easy 3s but nearly impossible 2s for me. It was probably not the right design level for a park course in Iowa.
-Flooding had taken out signs, knocked trees over, and left silt all over the whole course including the trees. I don't know if this was full grass before but not it is a little grass growing out of sandy silt.
-There aren't enough trees to really force too many shots here, especially on the last 4 holes.
-Too many groups couldn't play here at the same time due to the back and forth nature of the layout on a few holes. You would have to keep your head up. Nobody else was there when I was though.

Other Thoughts:

-The fun factor for this course was pretty low for me. It was the wrong length for my skill level, it was damaged by flooding, and there is no elevation and not enough trees. If you want to practice bomber throws with a tree or two to avoid, this is your place.
-This course is worth a stop if you're in the area but don't go out of your way for this course.
+This course might get a 3 disc rating from me if it were in peak condition. It has been a few months since the flooding and it looks like no one has put any effort into improving the disc golf course.

Excellent, beautiful. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 23, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful scenery, spacious, well-designed. Many long holes with good open drives.
For most of the tees, the tee sign had clear information and a decent picture to accompany the information.

Cons:

Two tees have no hole information, one being the most important... the info for hole #1! Though information is clear on the other tee signs, not having it for the first one made starting a bit difficult.
The pictures of the hole at each tee sign was a joke. Clip art of trees scattered around an arrow showing a flight path to the basket... ha. That information was not helpful, and it looked expensive.
Scorecards or a map would be a great addition to such a well designed course!

Other Thoughts:

For many of the holes, 4 and 5 par were excessive. I eagled a hole my first time playing this course. That shouldn't happen. I'm not that good of a player.
Minimal traffic flowed through a road in the park. A nearby river did not prove to be an obstacle at all.
The medium tree cover made for a beautiful round when played in the evening. Play this course if you are in the area!
