Decent neighborhood course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 17, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice little course behind the Conference center.
Has a few decent shots using the trees and little elevation out there.

Cons:

Not well marked
Grass/dirt tee pads

Other Thoughts:

Tee one is right next to the playground. not sure exactly where to tee off from, but the basket is down near the maintenance building behind the Simmons Center.

Walk between the buildings over to hole 2 that throws down along the building.

Hole 3 tees off next to the homes and driveway. I was not sure if the tee was on the cement or behind the old railroad tie. I played the cement as it looks like someone has marked it. Hole is wide open long with trouble behind the basket.

Hole 4 might be my favorite hole here, the basket is a dogleg right down the hill.

Hole 5 tees off in the wooded area going along the edge of the woods.

Hole 6 does not tee off by the sign, that is the old tee box. I figured the tee was next to the tree just past hole 5 and also throws down along the woods.

Hole 7 is missing it's tee sign and is a blind shot past a row of trees.

Hole 8 is a nice little hyzer skip shot to a leaning basket.

Hole 9 is a longer hole with the playground off to the right. Don't turn it over if kids are playing. Lucky I hit a tree.

In all, this is not a bad course. With several holes over 300ft, it is not the best course for beginners,

I did not have a guide, but I was told the locals play it backwards to make the course 18 holes.

better than expected 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 28, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

-has an okay variety of shots for a 9 hole with limited land resources
-baskets are in good condition
-signs on most tees, with distance
-good mix of left v. right shots
-nice, clean park; well-maintained, mowed; playground for the kiddos

Cons:

-the natural tees are in reasonable condition but on several of them it is hard to discern where they are exactly. the worn area can be large and given some of the early trouble off the tee on several holes, a few feet either way can significantly affect your tee shot. this course needs concrete not because the grass/dirt is not level but in order to clarify the tee area.

-the sign for hole 7 is missing and thus very tough to locate exactly, for the reasons described above

-while the distances vary from 250' to 400', there are limited resources for obstacles and interesting holes. hole 4 has a good dogleg right and hole 8 probably favors a skip hyzer but otherwise you can pretty much do what you want off the tee.

Other Thoughts:

Simmons Center is really not that bad considering it is a 9 hole course in the middle of nowhere. There happens to be 2 much better but seasonally available courses nearby at Duncan Lake so this one probably gets ragged on in comparison. I found it to be a reasonably fun round with just a few minor issues.

The layout is pretty easy to follow. You can see most tees from the last basket and in the case of holes 1 and 2, the largest gap between holes, a sign points the way to the next tee. The only exception is hole 7 which has a blind basket and is missing its sign, requiring a bit of guesswork for the traveling player.

There are several longish open shots, some of them with early trouble to navigate off the tee. Hole 4 is a nice dogleg right with a bit of elevation with which to contend. It would be easy for local players to play various safari layouts to keep it fresh. Upon my visit, the grass was mowed but a few areas of the course were soggy after a recent rain.

Simmons Center is certainly nothing to write home about but it is a decent course worth playing if you are in the neighborhood. Makes a great option for locals when the Duncan Lake courses are overgrown.

Has signage issues 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 15, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

The grounds here were well mowed.
This course has a good mix of moderate and longer holes.
3 was my favorite hole because it was downhill and had a somewhat protected basket.
This would be a good place to work on your game without fear of losing a disc.
Also this would be a good place to work on your wind game.

Cons:

This course is very open. There isn't a whole lot of variety on many of the holes. Be careful on #1 not to hit any of the parked cars up by the buildings. Also on #8 there is a sidewalk that comes into play so be careful here as well.
The walk between a few baskets and tees slows the flow down.
#4's tee marker was thrown into the trees down by the creek. For a first timer playing this hole without the sign being in the correct position it was very confusing. I hope they can fix the missing sign issues to make playing this course more enjoyable. This happened again on #7 and I never did find the sign for that hole.
#5's tee marker was uprooted and propped up by a tree.
#5's basket is too close to #6's tee if this course were to get crowded this is an accident waiting to happen.
#9's tee marker was laying on the ground upon my visit.

Other Thoughts:

At one time this looks like it was a decent beginner/entry level course. I don't know if vandalism has taken its toll on the signage here or what, sad really that people can't respect something that is free to the public.
I feel that if there were a few holes that incorporated the trees that were by the creek it would spice this course up a lot. Even if they were to fix the sign issues and plant some trees on over half of the course it would make for more interesting disc golf in my opinion.
As it is its just too wide open and confusing at times because of the signage issues. Not a destination course by any stretch.

The SC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 8, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Good baskets
-decent range
-obstacles are good for what the designer had to work with
-grounds are kept pretty well

Cons:

-Tee signs out of place
-Tee boxes can sometimes be hard to find especially for a person new to the course
-needs 9 more holes

Other Thoughts:

This is my home course. Its really a nice 9 hole setup once you know where the correct tee boxes and things are.

Kids from the middle school across the street tear up some trees and sign post from around the grounds. Which just make everything harder to find.

Good warmup for the killer at the lake. 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 17, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Good baskets
Well kept
Most tees had signs
Decent navigation
Some short/some long
A few neat shots
Lots of parking
Good shade most of the round
Good chance to practice mids
Great for newbies to intermediate players
Need a driver a few times
Quick round/Play two
Playground for the kids
Good use of the existing land
Great to take family or newbies
Good bathrooms inside
Friendly workers inside
Almost no trash

Favorite Hole(s): #4, #6

Cons:

Natural tees
Some tee signs missing
No trash cans
No benches (except at playground)
Playground/stray kids might affect #8 but that's all
Could use some directionals (1-2, 3-4)

Other Thoughts:

All in all a good 9-hole park to play a quick round or practice your accuracy.
You'll need a good accurate shot off the tee to score well.
Great warmup before going to play the killer out by the lake.
If you stop by not expecting greatness you won't be dissappointed.
This course would be a 3.5 on its own merit if it had concrete tees and benches/trash cans.
The fun factor is pretty good. This is just a good 9-hole course.

Don't Even Bother 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 2, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course has a few long shots and it is on a nice little area and park. That's about all I can say for this course.

Cons:

Signs at the tees (bad tee boxes/no tee boxes) are available on about 6 out of the total 9 holes. Not only that but the distances claimed are usually off (specifically hole 6 as it claims to be 250' or so and it actually plays over 350'). Hole 5 and 7 haven't any tee box markers or signs. Furthermore, the just about every basket has the hole number on it but they facing away from their respective tee box so they are pretty much irrelevant because you see it after your disc is in the basket, so you could actually play towards the wrong basket. The worst part to this little course is that it is in the open on a very windy spot. Winds change drastically and quickly at random, making actual skilled throws redundant as they can be thrown aside like ragdolls. Also, the wind will kill putts that are 10 ft out (or closer). Thus, not only do you somehow have to get very close to the hole on a drive, you also need the wind to die down so you can putt. Makes this course very unfun.

Other Thoughts:

Don't play this course as it will not challenge or improve your game. If you must play this sad excuse of a course, then just use it as practice/warm up for Duncan Lake's DGC.

COULD BE THE WORST COURSE I'VE EVER PLAYED...AND I SHOT EVEN.

Pros:

Great new layout! Made the course twice as challenging. Nice use of the what the designer had to work with. Holes favor both leftys and rightys. Distance of the holes range from 250 to 400. Fun course, grass is almost always mowed.

Cons:

Tee pads. Only 9 holes.

Other Thoughts:

Plays around a very nice park. Bring your kids. Easy to follow.

Honest Review 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 26, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Must make a good shot off the tee to score. Accuracy is rewarded on the short holes. Wonderful improvement from what was previously there.

Cons:

Could use concrete tees.

Other Thoughts:

Great use of available property. While there are a limited number of trees, the use of what is present is very good.
