A players course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 18, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Fairly open approach to the baskets
-Easy to score well
-Nice mix of short and long holes

Cons:

-Large water hazard which has claimed many discs
-Lots of goose poop (time of year is key)
-Not much in the way of natural scenery

Other Thoughts:

Sunnybrook Park is a players' course. Fairly open, easy to score, and an overall inviting setting to play in. Lacks the course maintenance and natural scenery needed to be a truly great course.

Beginner player experience - 0.6/1 for large water hazard, which rears its ugly head on more than a few holes
Intermediate player experience - 1/1 for mix of longer and shorter holes and for having open holes and clear approaches to the basket
Advanced player experience - 0.5/1 for being flat, only nine holes, and for the fact that each hole is driveable with little to no challenge, except when the wind is kicking
Setting - 0.6/1 for being an overall inviting campground for a disc golf course, although the parking situation is regrettable
Overall course experience - 0.6/1 for goose-poop during summer months and no tee-pads though the grounds are generally well-maintained by the Sunnybrook campground maintenance staff

Total = 3.3/5

Not bad 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 17, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Good baskets, easy navigation, a few bomber holes.

Cons:

Big divots on most teepads, not very technical, big water holes, goose plop everywhere.

Other Thoughts:

A shame they didn't make this an 18 hole course, layout is decent considering the lack of trees, worth a play if in the area. Definitely a far cry from being a premier course.

SunnyBrook 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 8, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A very well kept course with nice baskets. Has mutliple tees that requires a variety of shot selections. Several holes offer ace opportunities while others can't be aced. Camping and grilling on site. Overall a great course to play.

Cons:

The WATER! 5 out of nine holes can claim your disc. It is also home to a very large flock of geese whose droppings become annoying. Tees need some TLC as well.

Other Thoughts:

Between Riversied in St. Cloud and Courses in Fargo you probably won't find a better Disc Golf course in the area.

sunnybrook... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 27, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice spread out and lengthy course
-Different tees for novice and experienced players
-Length variety
-Well kept park

Cons:

-Geese crap in a lot of places
-Champion and novice tees not marked consistently

Other Thoughts:

An enjoyable course. Nice flat terrain and a mixture of long open spaces with a bit of tree obstacles make for a nice variety. Champion and novice tees are posted in different ways on certain holes but it isn't a big deal. The park is nice and makes for a good time. Conveniently located right off Hwy 10

Sunnybrook Rundown!!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 10, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Shot variety, both long and short holes, nothing really to "open-up" on, but the variety is there (great practice for medium to medium/long drive accuracy and up-shots)
-Signs for every hole
-The most well manicured course I've played...saw NO trash and kept mowed
-Located on a campground (a very nice one)
-Makes great use of the small lake and surrounding trees and hillsides, no hole the same
-Only saw a few disc golf groups play, so not busy at all
-Pins visible from all t-boxes

Cons:

-Only 9 holes.
-Some holes are pretty short.
-No t-pads
-If it's windy, you'll know it!!!

Other Thoughts:

This small 9-holer plays through open field making great use of the spotty trees. Most of the holes play around a lake as well, through not bringing the water too much in to play...a bad shot will get you wet though.

Great course and if you're ever passing through Wadena in north/central Minnesota... I would sincerelly recommend making a stop here.

I worth-playing 9-holer, is a always a 2 thumbs up for me.

Home course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 15, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-This is considered the pride of Wadena's parks.
-The course and park are well maintained. Seems to be mowed frequently, as I have spoted fresh mower tracks on a regular basis..
-Not a really busy course, in the 7 years I've been playing it and living in town, I've only seen maybe a handful of other players. So you can take your time at playing and not feel rushed.
-Holes 1-3 and 9 play far enough from the water, so that beginners can practice with little risk of throwing it in the drink.
-Hole 5 is probably the most challengeing, as it has a low hanging tree between the tee and basket. Throw it low or dog lag it around, but be careful or you may be taking a swim.
-Hole 9 plays slightly uphill. other wise most of the course is flat.
-Offers secondary tees for each hole. The secondary tees are in better condition then the primary. Some are easier to spot then others (see cons)
-Does have a camping site on the park. With showers, and laundromat
-Does have picnic shelters with grills.

Cons:

-Not to many obstacles to give it a challenge, because it's so open..
-Walks from hole to next tee can be pretty lengthy. Could almost squeeze a couple exrta holes in between them. (see other notes)
-Can get pretty windy, which could pose a challenge to newer players, especially along the water.
-Grass tee's have gotten worn, so care is need when taking a running throw, as to not misstep and twist something.
-Secondary tees not marked on hole map/info poles. So may be a cause as to why they appear to not be used as much.
-Distances marked apear to be diffrent then what is stated.
-Geese hang out, so you may find alot of droppings.

Other Thoughts:

-It has come to my attention that the park board has approved 4 new baskets to be placed on the course. Also the chance of cement tee pads and other improvements. I will keep this updated as the final details come to me.
-Tee markers have been repainted. RED:primary YELLOW: Secondary, with temp flags for easier location.
-Being the halfway point between St. Cloud and Fargo via Us Hwy 10, an oppurtune time to stop and strech your legs, especially if your headed either way to play a few rounds.
-Again this is the pride of the Park Dept. in Wadena, and this is why I have officiated many wedding ceremonies here.
-And if you don't mind murky weedy creeks, wade on in and you may just find a disc or two.

A stop along the highway 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 10, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course was very easy to navigate. Having never played there before, I was able to make it around the entire course without any problems.

The park seems to be well maintained. The fairways were nicely groomed (mowed) when I was there.

Signs at tee pad for all holes. Shows preferred route to basket, distance to basket, as well as location of next tee. Baskets were all in nice shape.

Cons:

All of the tees are grass/dirt.

The hole distances on the signs seemed to be wrong. Many of the holes seemed a lot shorter than the distances marked on the signs.

Most of the holes are wide open and offer little obstacles to play around.

Other Thoughts:

Even though there is a 'water hazard' on some of the holes on this course, your disc would really have to come out of your hand wrong or get caught in the wind to land in the water. Most of the fairways are far enough away from the water so you wouldn't have to worry about it.

This course is in a nice park setting. There are areas to grill/picnic along with a small playground for younger kids. There are some animals to look at as well.

Holes 1-4 are on one side of the river (start near playground). Cross bridge and follow holes 5-8 along river. Hole 9 is back across river and plays back towards hole 1. If you park near wildlife, hole 5 will be closest tee to you (that is where I started).

This course served well for a stopping point on my trip back from Bemidji to the Twin Cities. If you are passing by, I suggest you stop to play the course. I would not make this course a destination though.

It's always sunny in brook! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 11, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

There is a good mix of longer and shorter holes, leaving opportunity for an ace(never had one). The baskets are in good condition and are solid. Grass is always mowed, you will find you disc unless it hits the drink.

Cons:

A couple of the holes leave a chance for lost discs in Whiskey Creek.

Other Thoughts:

If you need a break from the discing action check out the bison, deer, pheasants, and peacocks in the zoo in between hole number 4 & 5.

Pros:

Longer shots for more challenging play. Tees and baskets in good shape. Never windy becuase it is nestled in sheltered river.

Cons:

Because the course is along the river, lost disc will occur. Lots of goose grease.

Other Thoughts:

Beautiful location and always challenging

Hazardously fun! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 25, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Long open shots. Beautiful setting. Tees are well done with maps, challenging pro tees and plentiful scorecards. Constant water hazard keeps players challenged. Camping and wildlife zoo nearby. No wait time.

Cons:

Water hazard pretty much guarantees lost discs. Lots of goose and other water foul droppings on course. No area disc retail for 40 miles.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a definite frustration, but a good one at that. The entire course runs parallel to a river, making every drive a careful strategy. An all grass terrain means disc skipping and rolling nearly impossible. Long shots and a large area of play means plenty of game time. Sadly, no retail of discs in the area results in hardly anyone playing this course.
