Good Place , Relax and Play 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 26, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Pulling into the parking lot , I could tell that the people that run this park are serious about disc golf . I parked and talked to a park employee that gave me the ins and outs of the course . I will give this disclaimer , as I am an out of towner who, up until coming up to Wisconsin , have never done the put the money in the envelope- tear off the receipt- and present it upon request ( I mean demand ) and do not like it . I like a simple transaction where the course employee takes your money , familiarizes themselves with your face and knows you paid instead of someone riding up in a golf cart in the middle of your round and spoiling your train of thought with " do you have proof that you paid , suspect ? " . Anyway , I paid my money , which is $5 per day ( $45 yearly ) , reasonable , as long as you are impressed with course amenities and care . The grounds have a good bathroom , a nice kiosk with a course map and it even tells you what place the pins are in . NICE . The first hole is close by , a good warmup hole that is 275' uphill , that plays more like 300+ , and is protected by rough on the right and behind and sloes to the left some , so if your disc takes a hop , it is likely hopping away from the basket . The tee pads are the grippy trapezoids and lay even with the ground , which make them a crowd favorite . You can see when walking up to 2 ( a 300+ that starts in the open and goes into a large garage-like entrance to the basket about 60+ feet in the woods ) that all of the fairways are manicured , all of the baskets are great and the signage is fantastic . 2 tee pads per hole , several pin positions . benches and trash cans everywhere . I printed a map off the DGR website , which you might not need . The course flows well and you will likely not be lost in your round . This course moves from pretty open to the woods after 5 , and the next 5 holes go in well laid out fashion back and forth until popping back out into the open . I had caught up to a couple of young locals by this time and finished my round with them . By this time , I had played a lot of courses , so I was now mixing my pro tee throws with the AM tees . Most of the pro tees here don't necessarily give you a different look , just adds distance . The course designer here put in a lot of overtime in order to make this course both competitive , but mostly fun . Newbies might want to steer clear of here until they get a hundred rounds or so of easier places until coming here . Most mediocre hack players should be able to 3 most of the holes from the short tees , or at least be putting close . After giving you a bunch of different looks , even on the open holes , the course leads you back to hole 1 . My signature hole here would be either 4 , a wraparound dogleg left 360 footer , #8 a woods tunnel shot 355' that doglegs left , or #15 , which you drive from the open into the woods slightly left of the tee , towards the basket tucked behind random trees to the right . Well worth the money , check this course out .

Cons:

I will get this out just to warn players that are used to the free courses : Pay To Play $5 , although this has the advantages of making the people running it accountable to an extent , and that amount of money has never deterred me before . Plus , it can keep newbies and occasional players that have no course etiquette off the course . As I mentioned before , the course fairway is well manicured . The rough is , well , rough . I lost my best Star Tern in the rough throwing straightaway on my approach on 2 in rough over my knees ( I'm 6'6" ) and it is a bright yellow color ! You might spend unneccesary time looking for a slightly wide-of-the-fairway throw . There is private property that borders the course in the back , so be careful rooting around looking for a griplock throw that runs to the right on 4 . To the typical tournament player , this course might not WOW them at all , but the might take advantage of it just so they can not be bothered by the crowds . The course designer missed it on the last couple of holes by not including that pond near 18, the only possible water on the course .

Other Thoughts:

To sum it up . This course isn't the championship caliber course as Stony Creek , and it will never have that warm feel of belonging like Dawgwood Ditch , but it will give you a somewhat exclusive course that is not overused and is well taken care of . You get what you pay for , and your $5 is not only reasonable but it is well spent and you feel like a good portion on it goes right back into the course . You can use the multiple pin positions and the short-long tees to gauge improvement from time to time . Bottom line : PLAY IT

Well-rounded Park Style 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 12, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

-2 Tees per Hole (Am & Pro)

-3 Basket locations per hole

-Benches and trash cans on a majority of the holes.

Perfectly shaped and sized teepads. Some of the best I've ever seen. Very grippy

Great scorecards, map and information available at the kiosk. The kiosk even had an indicator for which placement the baskets were in, they were all on the red location for our round.

Well laid out and fairly easy to navigate. Wish there were more holes like 6-11 but they used what was available really well.

Cons:

A lot of people would say the $5 per day/$45 annual pass is a con but I don't personally see that as a con here. Just putting this in this category for the majority of players out there.

Graffiti located on hole 8, unnecessary carving and excessive damage to trees next to the teepads. Was very disappointed to see this, not much you can do to fix it now though. Don't know if this course was always pay to play or not so this may have happened before that was instituted.

Graffiti in the form of beer bottle caps pressed into stumps. I don't care what anyone else thinks, this is not art when placed in a public park. Private pay-to-play course, where there is an actual design laid out in the wood, fine, but not appropriate here.

Other Thoughts:

Really enjoyable round on a well maintained course. You can really get a feel for the amount of work and dedication that the local club has put into this course in recent years and I am excited to see how everything grows up and ages as time goes on. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. Good place to warm up your arm on the open holes before you make your way over to Stoney Creek in Fredonia.

Don't agree with the pars listed on the scorecard, I'll just leave it at that. Feel like there are far too many par 4s from the pro tees where the obstacles and distance don't warrant the extra stroke.

Other Thoughts:

let's be real here, there's five cool wooded holes and then some wide open shots thrown together to fill out the rest of the 18 holes. so it's a dollar a hole basically. it should've just been a really sweet 9 hole free course that would grow the sport better. why would you play here with the fredonia course up the road? if every hole was as cool as 6-10 this would be a 5 disc course

Solid 18 holes 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 10, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Set out in the country, which gives that "away from it all" feeling.

Solid DGA baskets that catch well.

Solid signs, at each set of tees, with all the information you could ask for.

Concrete tee pads at both shorts and longs. Nice trapezoid design, and very grippy. As good as they get.

Nice mix of open and wooded holes. 1-5 are mostly open, 6-11 are in a pocket of woods in the middle of the park, and 12-18 are mostly open again.

Fair lines in the wooded holes. There's a couple that are a bit tight and require a bit of luck, but overall there are open lines on all holes.

Cons:

There's a pond here, but it doesn't play into any of the holes, which is too bad. There could have been a nice water carry here.

Wind is almost always a big factor, especially on the open holes. I prefer to not play here if it's overly windy.

Pay to play. $5 ($45 season) for the day...which isn't terrible, and helps to keep the course in good shape, but outside of tournaments, probably keeps a lot of players away with so many other good options not too far off.

Nice bathrooms on site (during peak season), but other than the pavilion they rest in, there's not a ton else to do here.

Other Thoughts:

Tendick is really a nice course, with a lot of love put into it. While $5 seems excessive, I guess it keeps the chucker population down.

Ample parking, even for tournaments, which is nice.

While I wouldn't call this a destination course, it's certainly worth the trip to run a couple times.

My home (course) away from home 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 1, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Perfect mix of woods vs fields, long vs short, hyzer vs straight vs anny.
Pro tees makes it a whole new course.
Great teepads.
Good amount of benches.
Hole 8.
Bathrooms and water.
Great signage.
Very low traffic.
Very clean and well kept.
Open year-round.

Cons:

Lack of dramatic elevation changes.

Other Thoughts:

Tendick was my home course for about 5 years, prior to me moving to Madison (so I may be slightly biased). It has been awesome to watch the park grow and change over that time.

The addition of the final baskets will be complete soon if it isn't already, so every hole will have 3 placements. This, in combination with the pro tees gives you a ridiculous amount of variation in this course. From a midrange course from am tees to shorts, to a pro calibur course from pro tees to longs.

The one thing Tendick had against has been eliminated with the onset of pay to play (to me, pay to play is a total PRO if the course is worth paying for). 2 years ago, this parking lot was packed to the brim every day. Now you go on a bright sunny Saturday in the middle of Summer and there's 2 cars in the lot, and 1 is a person walking dogs. It's great - I can't stress enough how much more enjoyable the course is without 60 people who don't really care about discing there. Also, pay to play has pretty much done away with garbage on the course as well, now it's clean as a whistle. $45 bucks for a pass that's good for 12 months? That's under $4 a month to play wonderful course.

Bottom line is that a once great course is now nearly perfect.

Other Thoughts:

Alright: I'm a little salty about this course right now since they've begun charging to play it (and I'm moving away soon and won't get enough value out of a season pass). I played this course plenty back when it was free, though, and I have to concede that, personal animosity aside, it's a nice course.

Pins, tees, benches, trails, signs, diagrams , all the pieces of "hardware" at this place are high quality. The course is very "technical" , in the sense of having to have accurate drives--not just long hucks (though there are a couple holes like that, too).

If you live in Ozaukee County and are looking for a regular (pay) course to play, I would really recommend this place to call home. Look at it like a "country club"; you pay the membership fee and frolf it all you want without all the congestion from non-members.

A Hidden Gem 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 12, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Want to get away?... Play Tendick. Once you leave the first tee you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, it's incredible.
-Scenery is spectacular
- The front 9 does a nice job of warming up the arm in the woods... Good variety of hyzers and anhyzers will make you keep reaching into your bag for different discs.
- The back 9 presents a nice challenge with elevation and rolling hills.
-The course is easy to navigate... you will never get lost.

Cons:

- I love to air the disc out and unfortunately there are only a few holes that allow you to really grip it and rip it... Some hole are way too short.
-Huge distance difference between Pro tee and Regular tee.
-Hole signage needs to improve (most likely will with funds from passes coming in)
- Holes 1-17 are so amazing but then you get to 18, such a boring finisher.

Other Thoughts:

Many people have complained about the recent "Pay for Play" that the course adopted... For these people I must respond with "Get a job!"
Regular golf cost $50 a round and your complaining about paying $5 for all you can play in a day. I purchased a Season Pass for $45 and boy is it worth it. For $45 I get a wide open course all the time! It is now free from trash and teenagers who don't disc but just want a place to burn out after school.
It is so awesome when Dave, the course marshal comes out and removes people from the course for not paying. I now belong to a exclusive club of people who want to see the course grow into one of the state's best courses. If you love to play disc, enjoy some barley pops, and have a good time, then visit Tendick.

Very nice pay to play 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 2, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Two sets of huge, flared level concrete tees on every hole. Many of these add distance and a different angle to the pin making for good variation between the two. The signs are excellent and they're at both the pro and am tees which isn't the case at a number of other places i've played. They show pin locations, distances, par and arrow to the next tee. They have multiple pin locations on every hole which once again gives it even more variation. Nice mix of left and right turning shots throughout. Also a good mix of open prairie holes and tight, technical wooded holes. All the fairways were extremely well mowed and maintained. Navigation is a breeze here and the course was designed well so no holes really overlap. Course was very clean. There are a few nice bridges over small streams which is always nice. Nice large parking lot and the area appears to be exclusively used for disc golf.

Cons:

It's a pay to play course. Five dollars a person, however you can see where your money goes to. Just a con if you live nearby but i do believe they have annual passes that can be purchased. Some of the prairie holes are pretty bland, but they did the best they could with the land given. Other than these I got nothing.

Other Thoughts:

This is for sure worth the $5 fee you got to pay to play it. There also are a number of other courses nearby to make for a great day of discing.

Top-Notch Course, Do Not Miss Out 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 1, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great use of the elevation of the land, perfect-sized concrete pads for both shorts and longs, multiple pin placements on all holes (with more to come from what I hear), benches, trashcans that get emptied on a regular basis (which keeps the coarse beautiful), lots of different shots needed, and so much more.

Cons:

I really had to stretch to find a CON for this course, but if I were forced to claim one, it'd maybe be to get all the yardages for all the placements like Dretzka does.

I've played enough to guess-timate the distance from the yardage of the one pin that they give yardage to, but have heard people mention that they would love to see them all on the sign.

Other Thoughts:

I've payed to play for some courses before, played it, and felt ripped-off, but this is a course that not only I, but every one of my friends are HAPPY to pay-to-play.

They have worked hard to form this course into a professional, top-notch course. It is a well maintained course where the garbages are emptied on a regular basis which is crucial to keeping a course clean. I've played other pay-per-play courses that didn't even have any garbage cans or concrete pads and those are the two most crucial things I think of when paying-to-pay.

YOU WILL SEE WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES ON THIS COURSE!

Thanks to everyone involved in the development and upkeep of Tendick Park!

A Little Bit of Everything 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 8, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

What a fun course! Tendick park is a course that is both accessible to beginners and appropriate for a tournament. From my rounds here, there are several positive aspects that stick out in my mind:

*TWO sets of concrete tees. 18 shorts, 18 longs. Multiple pin placements on each hole

*Very well maintained park.

*Good flow from hole to hole

*Isolated feel to the course

*Good elevation changes.

*Holes go in and out of the forest forcing just about every shot in your bag

*When there arent a lot of trees on a given hole, there is alot of wind to make the hole challenging

Cons:

The biggest con here is that the signage for the long tees. I'm not sure what the heck the distances on those are for, but depending on when you go, they are nowhere near accurate. There are also a few safety issues on the course... a few of the fairways come awfully close to one another, and an errant tree bounce can lead to potential injury.

Update May 2013: This course is a great course, but it is certainly not worth $5 per day to play.

Other Thoughts:

You should definitely go out of your way to check out this course!

The Wind and the Lion 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 19, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Easy to follow and well thought out course layout and variety of shots. Alternating pins. Restrooms, water fountain, shelter with picnic tables all in one spot. Very clean. Concrete Amateur and pro tees. Ample parking. Pedestrian trail. Blind shots. Rest areas. Trash receptacles. Practice tee has high and low areas nearby which are well within putting range. Great use of elevation changes throughout the course. Signs have improved vastly and should last. A few holes have challenging distances while they're not overwhelming for the average amateur. The hooligans aren't there to mess with you or steal your discs in my experience (this course was nearby to my ex-home). Some cool old buildings for group shots to the right of hole 3 if you're facing the goal.

Cons:

Can be a busy course. Medium sized groups are not uncommon which will double to triple normal playing times on calm warm days. It could use some general maintenance on the trails, but it's a nature park, it should be natural. Considering the fact, you still wont see any wildlife aside from birds and other small critters.

Other Thoughts:

Alternating pins for about 75% if I recall correctly. Some you cannot see the goal's position until you're almost walking on top of it. It is not always windy although you will encounter a few holes that generally always have a light breeze which makes it a fun, challenging course. If it happens to be windy I think it's a great course to hone in your skills in the condition. You will be tested and the effects are easily observed. In the fall it's easy to be looking for your disc for a little while when you're in the woods. There are a few holes in there where your disc will land somewhere and the leaves...the leaves...are so deep you can only hope that you see an "entrance wound" that is yours and that your assumption in direction is the right way. While you're looking through the leaves you'll be tripping over roots, sticks and maybe even a log, use caution! Use high visibility discs when shooting through the prairie. If hole 13's wind takes you off to the right you're going to want to run up a bit to get a better look at where you have landed or you'll be looking for a little while in the tall grass.

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 22, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Tendick Nature Park has really nice trapezoidal shaped concrete tee pads for the long and short pads. There are tee signs at each pad including nice hand crafted wood signs at the shorts. The baskets are in good condition and have large circular signs on top to make them easy to spot. There are two or three basket positions on each hole. There's also a practice basket close to the parking lot so you can warm up before the round.

There's a nice mix of wooded and open, prairie style holes. The front nine is more wooded forcing you to hit your line for rewarding birdies. The back nine is more open. There's a good variety of hole length and the multiple tees and pin placements help make the course challenging to a wide variety of skill levels. There are some gentle elevation changes that the course does a good job of taking advantage of. There's a decent shot variety with a couple quality turnover shots for RHBH players.

Cons:

Holes 7 and 8 don't have legitimate routes to the basket. I'm not sure if other pin positions are better, but from the longs in the positions they were in when I played here the fairways seemed too lucky.

Like most courses with prairie holes, the open holes are a bit bland.

The tee signs by the long pads only list the distance to one pin position so they aren't always accurate. Also, it's difficult to tell which placement the basket is in.

Other Thoughts:

I last played this course in 2005 and am happy to see all the improvements that have been made here. Because of the multiple pads and basket placements, this course caters to players of all skill levels. Unfortunately the two lucky holes and some of the open holes stop me from rating this course higher.

INCREDIBLE CHANGE! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 16, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- My favorite feature of this course is the Orange signs on the top of the basket. They are large, bright, and made of a disc friendly material. They are mounted in a loose way so that impact does not cause damage.
- New Baskets
- Dual LEVEL Cement Tee pads
- Signs at the AM pads. They have pro tee distance as well.
- Multiple Pin Placements.
- Well kept and manicured.
- Fun for all levels
- Fun fairways, littered with rocks, roots, and holes. (Most of you will consider this a Con, but I have fun traversing this kind of terrian).
- Accuracy and Line shaping required
- Bring your Putters and Mids
- Fair to lefties and righties
- Challenging Greens

Cons:

- There are not many opportunities to bust out the big guns. The one truly long hole is slightly downhill so....
- Currently no signs at Pro pads (from what I understand they are coming)
- Many baskets are mounted kind of low
- A few repetitive holes in the open. Holes 3 and 4 play almost identical. 12 and 16 are the same exact shot.
- Hole 18 is a very boring finisher. Really the last 4 holes leave you with something to be desired after the first 14 holes.
- I am curious if the pond is not a usable obstacle? If it can be used it should be used.

Other Thoughts:

So I havent played this course since 2003. I cannot believe the change that has occurred in 8 years. Cement Tees, new baskets, and a new layout (to me anyway)!
In the old design the woods in the center of the park was not used very well( really not at all). The baskets were old school Mach Is I believe (I actually like these :). It was an easy duece fest for a chucker back then.
The re-designers kept/improved several of the old fun holes and added all those wonderful wooded holes. The course is still a duece or die layout but now you have to really work for it. Line shaping and placement is favored over distance.
REC players will find the most challenge and reward here. This will really develop their short game and accuracy. The short tees are a great beginning layout and the longs will develop them into solid INT players. INT players should find little challenge from the shorts and a good challenge from the longs. ADV and PRO players will destroy the course. This is a more fun course for them with minimal challenges.
There are alot of great courses in WI. Tendick is among the most fun I've played. Its a short jaunt off of I43 and if you have a hour you should stop to play it.

Tale of two - cool woods, boring prairie 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 25, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The wooded holes in the middle are very neat and unique. The beauty of the huge mature trees is second to none. Many of these holes border on lucky though because they are very tight. I've found that any S-curve style shot will get you near the green to attempt a long deuce putt and avoid most obstacles.
Good variation of distance. The short tees have some nice short tight holes, and there are some very long open bombers mixed in, especially from the longs.
Multiple pin placements. I think this is the best feature. The mutiple pins showcase much of the few unique areas on this otherwise boring prairie park.
Nice trash cans all over, very nice signs where they still exist.
Long and Short tees.
The long, short, left, right, straight balance is right on in the woods, but the open holes rarely force any shot, they allow ANY type of shot. Wind is the only factor (and not wanting to wade through thick grass)

Cons:

The tees. Sure, they're huge concrete pads. But they are TOO SHORT! They don't need to be 8' wide in back, and should be 2-3' longer!! I'm sure the county spent a lot of money for the volume of concrete, but they did them wrong. See Silver Creek for good trapezoidal tees of good length.
There are only the few wooded holes - partial 2, 11, and 15, and fully 6-10.
The prairie style holes offer a bot of elevation, but nothing extreme and defintely no long downhill bombers here.
The prairie grasses must SUCK in the middle of summer. I shanked a number of drives into the long grass due to the wind being a major factor. But, other than looking for them, there was no punishment for the bad drive, I still took 3's. I would have hated looking for discs in long dense summer grass too!
There is no water or OB on this course (although the private land bordering #5 should be - no sign here to mark it).
A few of the greens in the woods are well protected, but none are really on any type of ridge for risky rollaways. Some of the protected alternate greens (namely #7 left most and right most) are almost too protected and just pinball-like.

Other Thoughts:

I don't mind playing the course. It is a nice remote area, although there are usually a number of people in the park.
The park is very scenic, but only the unique woods were used. Soem of the higher ridges and the ponds being brought into play would really spice up this course.
The overall design is decent, the wooded holes are fun if not nearly just lucky, but the challenge does not exist because the vast majority of holes are just wide open and slightly rolling prairie.
I really was perturbed by the HUGELY wide tees that were entirely too short! What a screw up in my mind!
The course is just average. I have played it a number of times, in all sorts of configurations and designs. It's worth a stop, but your overall experience will leave you wanting more. Problem is, there is a HUGE gap in not only quality courses, but ANY courses south of Silver Creek (or Sheboygan). Just check the map browser.

Very Fun Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 11, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Large concrete tee pads
-Multiple tee pads
-Great scenery
-Park is very clean
-Garbage cans at most holes
-Benches at most holes
-The course is not extremely difficult but still provides a challenge
-Very good tee signs for holes 10-18; The other ones only have poles with a number on it

Cons:

-Tee pads for the first nine can be very challenging to find if it is your first time
-Many leaves in the first nine to lose your disc in.
-Wind is a big factor

Other Thoughts:

I would highly recommend downloading and printing the course map under the Links/Files tab. Without a map I would have gotten very lost. Over all this is a very enjoyable course.

A few good holes in the middle 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 5, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course plays around and through a dense patch of woods surrounded by rolling prairie. The beginning and end of the course are open mowed fairways through the tall grass with minor elevation changes, while the middle of the course plays through tight woods with plenty of schule to punish an errant shot. This makes for some good length variety, with some wide open bombers out in the open, and a couple shorter holes in the woods. The wooded holes force some different lines and a few of the open holes have late trouble that challenge you to place your shot well to have a look at the basket.

There are very nice concrete tee pads, with dual tees on every hole to make the course accessible for different skill levels. The baskets are in good shape, and catch well. It's obvious a lot of work has gone into this course by the local club, and improvements are still continuing.

Cons:

There is absolutely no signage here, just some old posts at many tees, some of which have the hole number sharpied on. This makes the couple minor navigation issues worse as you have no idea at times if you're standing on the correct tee, and there's nothing to help you choose which path through the woods you should take after a couple holes.

The dual tees are a nice idea, but the long tees only add distance on the open holes, and make for some odd shots in the woods where the short tees tend to have a much better designed hole in general. The open section of the course is quite boring, and makes for some frustration with such long holes that call for a driver, but throwing off the fairway can lead to lots of time searching for discs. There were some rude players when I played, not something that hurts my rating, but there were groups that refused to let faster groups play through when asked, and other groups skipping around the course to get ahead of the slow people, backing things up even more.

Other Thoughts:

This isn't a bad course, but there are better places to play in the area that you should look at if you only have time for a couple courses (Dretzka and Brown Deer). Beginners will find this course a little long and punishing, though the short tees are a little less tight in the woods and a little shorter in the open. More experienced players will find some nice challenges, but not enough variety or a complete enough design from the long tees to really make it a must play.
