The recent removal of several trees and lots of brush has made the course play 2 to 3 strokes easier. It still is a fun challenging course.

Absolutely worth playing if you are in the area.

-course flowed really well so I hardly had to use the map

-nice signs at the pads indicating hole #, par and distance
-multiple tee pads and basket locations for several of the holes
-fun lines to throw.. woodsy, but not too many tight tunnel shots

-good for all skill levels, especially intermediate level

-beautiful setting for those who appreciate nature
-doubt it ever gets busy

-not much in the way of elevation change
-a couple holes play close together and a tree kick could end up in the neighboring fairway

After having just played #4 on DGCR's top rated courses, I thought my trip was only going to be downhill from then on... that was until I met The Beast!

This course is so enjoyable that even Sasquach himself plays here.. (at least that is what I hear).

I like how it's a wooded course, but so clean that I didn't even need a spotter to keep track of my drives. And if I did kick into the rough, I usually still could find a gap and save par.

Timber Beast is a tranquil course that offers some unique lines- a couple shots play right along the river and one even goes over a train track- in fact, the mando forces you to throw over/right next to the tracks. I don't think I've ever done that before at a disc golf course.

Can't quite put it into words, but this course just about has it all together. I'm proudly giving it 4-discs- "excellent" !
If the fine folks of Troy can figure how to add a couple hills in there somehow, I'll change it to 4.5!

Last notes: the True Value hardware store in the parking lot has a wide variety of Innova discs for sale at reasonable prices. They also had kid and adult shirts for sale with Bigfoog himself on it and the words Timber Beast, Troy Montana.

Concrete pads on every hole, with a few having multiple pads.

Newer Disc Catcher baskets on all holes, and several holes have multiple pin placements.

Easy to navigate with a natural flow to the course.

Benches and trash cans are plentiful.

A few baskets are located too close to the next tee.

No real bomber holes.

Very little elevation change throughout the course.

Timber Beast is a gem of course located in the town of Troy Montana. This is a beautiful part of the state, so in addition to throwing plastic, be sure to check out the nearby rivers, falls, lakes, cedar groves, etc.

The course starts out with several gettable holes, including ace runs on #1, #2, & #5. Starting on #6, the woods get deeper and par starts looking like a fine score on many of the holes, especially the tight stretch from #9-#13.

Most holes are between 180'-260' and the course rewards players who can throw straight. The rough has been trimmed back, so fairways are fair, but if you throw a shank or get a bad tree kick, it is punishing.

Overall, this is a fun and challenging course that is well worth checking out.

Troy is a scenic small town in northwestern Montana, and it is amazing that they have installed a quality 18-hole disc golf course.

This is a classic wooded course, with tight (but fair) fairways. The course includes a good variety of distances ranging from 147' out to 410'. While some holes require dead straight drives, most call for some line shaping. An accurate drive will give you a good birdie opportunity, but a kick off of a tree will bring bogie into play.

Hole 14 is a good example as it plays alongside the railroad tracks and requires a big left-hand turn from tee to basket. Miss the angle and you've got trouble.

Concrete tee pads are in great shape, and are painted with the footprints of (what I assume are) the Timber Beast. Nice touch!

Each tee has a clear sign with distance, par, and a basic hole layout. Innova baskets are in perfect condition and are marked with the correct hole number.

Navigation is simple, as most teepads are visible from the previous basket. In the few places where they aren't, a "next tee" sign is provided.

Good parking lot which is shares with a small museum and a railroad caboose.

No real elevation to work with. And with this tight a course, really no opportunity to air out a drive.

The course is compact, so you have to be aware of other players on the course and may need to wait a bit.

This probably varies with season, but the grass and brush were getting thick, and getting out of the fairway resulted in frustrating searches.

The distances shown on the course map at the parking lot are way off. I've updated the hole distances here based on the current tee signs.

There is an alternate tee for Hole #17B which plays a different line and extends the hole from 174' to 230'.

I found a tee sign for an alternate Hole 5B that looks like it brings the creek very much into play, but that basket wasn't in the day I played.

Beautiful course in a beautiful little Montana town. Course is easy to find in the city park right off the highway. Always quiet and never crowded (except during tournaments). Nice concrete tee pads with good signage and high-visibility double-chain Innova baskets. Several holes have been lengthened to appease the big huckers. A lot less easy "ace runs", but still enough to make it fun. The train tracks are not dangerous as it is a little-used dead-end spur track. Nice people keep the course clean and in good shape. Check out the grocery store with all the local big-game mounts and Kootenai Drug has a great selection of Innova discs.

Even with the longer holes added, this is definitely not a big arm course. Precision and accuracy thru the trees and good putting will score low here. There's a reason it's called the Timberbeast.

The Timberbeast tournament in June is one of the funnest, most well-attended in Montana. It includes the Discs Across the Kootenai long-arm competition, which is a blast to watch with a cold beer. Live music and free camping make it the best. Come visit Troy.

Great Scenery, Above average design, Two times through town in 1 week only one on the course, Clean, Quiet, and Close to nature, Navigation and cleanliness awesome.

First hole in 95+ heat = snake's on the trail and in the rocks of the creek bed. Loops back on itself a little. Front 9 vs. Back 9 not even comparable! From 140` to 390's. First through got chewed up by skeeters. Recommend sun block, OFF, and possible snake proof boots or knowledge and awareness.

You don't realize how quick your -3 will become even or +3 after running the long ones in thick wood or along the tracks. Overall great course would Love to play over and over if I were a local!

Great little town around Troy with very pleasant and happy people.

The course is nicely laid out. Each tee box has a nicely painted map of the hole posted on a tree which is pretty easy to follow. The course is well maintained and you can just follow the gravel to the next box. Beautiful setting. This is a shorter course with most holes being a Par 3, with one exception of a Par 4.

There are a few holes that are close to the river, so a misplayed disc could very easily be lost when the river is high.

If this course wasn't a couple hours away, I could see playing it quite often.

Lots of aces runs in a very scenic enviroment. Well organized makes for a good quick playthrough.

In the spring time during winter runoff Callahan Creek is very dangerous if you go in the water consider that disc a gonner.

In the last month there has been some major changes to the timberbeast and i believe it is for the better. Hole 3's Teepad remains the same but the moved the basket to the right and about 150 back making this hole alot more challenging. Hole 13's teepad has moved off in the woods to the right and is now elevated 4or5 feet. 13 basket is in the same place but the teepad change has completely reinvented this hole and i believe it is the most challenging hole on the course now.

Very short yet very tight and very challenging course. It's carved out of the Northwestern Montana Boreal Forest. It's bordered on the east by a large creek and yes to the North by train tracks. Not much up and down.

Lots of mosquitoes in season. Some holes require waiting while people are teeing off on the next hole.

they throw an awesome tourney in June which currently holds the record for the most entries in Montana with 110 people entered last June 08. They also have an amazing long throw competition where contestants attempt to throw discs the 520 feet across the scenic Kootenai River. Here's an article about it.

The course is set in a small wooded area next to a river and a small community park. It reminds me of what you would build if you owned 8 acres and wanted your own course to play. You wouldn't neccessarily be worried about putting up signs for others, etc. After the first four holes, the course is easy to follow playing mostly short, (I think 14 holes are less than 200') through the trees. Almost every hole on the course is an ace run. I think most were pretty well thought out and designed. The teepads worked just fine for these short throws. Most of the baskets have a nice bright orange numbers welded on top. These would be beneficial to so many other courses.

The first four holes are difficult to find and follow. Luckily, we had a local 9 year old, whose father and uncle designed the course, show us the first four. # 14 is not a well designed safe hole. It's the longest hole on the course, 291', the basket is hidden, and the fairway is along the railroad tracks. It would be quite easy to land your tee off on the tracks and play from there. Unfortunately, these tracks are high useage. Three trains went by during my two short rounds the day I played. Maybe Montana doesn't have lawyers and liability laws!

It's a fun little throw. Lots of ace opportunities. Watch out for the trains on # 14. If you happen to be driving by, you're probably lost, hunting or fishing. But then you might as well stop and play a quick round or two.
