Ace Runs! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 11, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice sheltered west coast forest. Most baskets easily visible from pads. Pretty much ace runs on most holes, even the uphill holes that play a bit longer are possible to run. I played in March, so there wasn't to much undergrowth to hide your discs. Possibly best in the spring, winter, fall. Another 9 holes of blue wind chime type tonals are in the same area. And a third 9 blue tonals around the perimeter of the soccer fields to air out your arm!. A brewery right off the ferry ride and another on the hwy just below the course!.

Cons:

Pretty short 9 holer. I could see playing in the summer that there could be some difficulty finding your discs if you got bad tree kicks. No map for the wind chime course, nor the tonal field course.

Other Thoughts:

I had the fortune to get toured through the course by the local legend Glen Whitlock, so I had some additional insight to the course. I noticed another set of 9 blue wind chime tonals running through the trees, but didn't have the time to play them. I don't think there was a map for that course, but it weaves through the trees beside the basket course. There is also another 9 blue tonals that play around the perimeter of the soccer fields that we did play, just to throw something other than mids and putters. We made our own tee pad locations for that. Mostly long drives on the field with approaches into the forest around the outside of the soccer fields. Sounds easy but open fields mean wind on the coast! To sum it up, the 18 of 27 that I played were fun, a great spring day on the west coast. I probably wouldn't travel for the course bag, but if you ended up on the Sunshine Coast, I would hope you brought a few discs with you and you save some time for the local breweries! PS- Serge from Ottawa joined us, newly relocated to the Sunshine Coast, and told us stories of 2 other courses in the area! Both are not quite ready for public, so you will have to dig for those two! I'm sure I will look into finding them the next time I ride a ferry over there!

Wooded Oasis 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 14, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Shaded from summer sun. Well marked. Nice walk through forest. Bathroom facilities at entrance. Reasonably open for being in the woods. Some elevation change. Never lost a disc or came close to it when playing with friends some of which were first time players. Close to town and brewery.

Cons:

Short course.

Other Thoughts:

Will play every time I'm in Gibsons.

Pros:

Nice signs at tees. Interesting holes. Not so overgrown that it would upset. It is possible to play alone and do not lose any discs.

Cons:

No really long holes.

Other Thoughts:

Alle holes are in the woods, precise play required.

Pros:

This course has a nice forest setting. It has a lot of tight technical shots which I am a fan of. There was also some subtle elevation changes to make things interesting.

Cons:

This course has an unfinished feel to it. At first glance it seems like a bunch of baskets installed in the woods. The holes are hard to find because there is a lot of under growth, no teepads and only a few very makeshift signs. Take a look at the picture of hole 4 to see what I mean.

Other Thoughts:

I was playing by myself but couldn't finish because I couldn't find all the holes. I was also turned off because of the high prospect of losing a disc due to the heavy underbrush. This course has a lot of potential and could benefit immensely from some signs and some clearing of some of the underbrush.

UPDATE: I had a chance to re-play this course with a few friends in the early spring. The trees and plants hadn't blossomed yet which created much more room to play with. It actually made this course more enjoyable and playable. If you're planning on playing this course I recommend playing in early Spring or in late Fall.

Because I've now seen that this course is playable without a guide when the underbrush isn't so thick, I upgraded my rating to from 1.0 - Poor to 1.5 - Passable.
