Seems to be getting better and better

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 10, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

I stopped to play this course while on a road trip, given its proximity to the highway. It was an easy place to pull off and get a rounded. I'm glad I did.
-most holes had 3 tees, all with their own signs that included a map and distance
-tees were all concrete, this appears to be a new feature as the old rubber mats were still next to a few of the pads
-beautiful, old pine forest with lots of nature. I saw gators, blue herons, deer, and a variety of other animals during my round.
-the course didn't seem busy. Maybe the lost disc risk discourages casual play but there was literally no one on the course while I played
-most wooded holes have define fairways that require specific shaping
-practice basket near the first tee
-A few good water carry holes to keep things interesting
-solid discatcher baskets
-this is a big one, the course clearly looks like it holds water and whoever maintains the course has gone to great lengths to put raised wooden paths throughout the course, really well done

Cons:

-Lost disc risk is ever present. A bad kick or misrelease and you're fighting a gator for your disc. I got very lucky twice. First my disc skipped of the water and made it to shore and the second time a bad kick landed me on the only bridge in the entire water way by 18.
-the course clearly holds water. The wooden paths are great but a drive will likely find standing water if you play from the yellow tees.
-few amenities such as trash cans or benches.
-not much parking near tee 1, maybe there is elsewhere in the park
-there were fishers behind 1s basket and along 2s fairway
-a couple of the water carry shots from the long pads felt a bit like you crashed into the tree line and hoped to make it through.

Other Thoughts:

All in all, I really enjoyed this course. I wouldn't mind seeing the Savannah Open spend a day or two here and see how top arms handled it. Definitely a course I'm glad I stopped at!

Pros:

Very cool setting for a round.
A variety of shots to make it interesting though most are wooded tunnel
Great for working for straight game
You can play it with a small bag
Challenging for accuracy, not for big D

Cons:

Tee pads get slick, and the surrounding earth is pine needles, so that's slippery too
Alligators may prevent disc retrieval
Not much elevation change or exotic holes like islands or peninsula
Pretty challenging

Other Thoughts:

I really liked this course. It's pretty, a nice hike, not busy.
an alligator, which prevented us from retrieving a putter in the water.
Lovely park

Pros:

The Sarge: if it looks like a swamp, and it floods like a swamp, it's a swamp. Enjoy finding the dry spots on this course.
- Disclaimer off the bat. Passed a local on hole #2 who was fishing out discs on the fairway. He said the course had more water than normal. I've been playing in the Carolinas during the historic rainfall of the prior 5 months and nothing was this bad.
- Course is a longer version of Tidal Creek (Fire Swamp) in West Ashley (Charleston). If you've ever complained about tight, wooded courses in Charlotte, they're nothing compared to this place.
- After losing one disc and having to fish another disc out of water on the fairway in the first three holes, I played the remainder of the round with only a Buzz. My strategy was simply to throw dead straight 175 - 250 on every shot. Even then, I still landed in unavoidable standing water on multiple fairways.
- There are a couple of holes that would/should be outstanding in pristine conditions. #12 (over the water), #13 (peninsula green) and #19 (water both sides of fairway) all look stunning. Just prepare for a strong pucker factor the instance your disc leaves your hand.
- Lots of wooded and doglegged fairways. There is no elevation so winding fairways and lots of trees are the only obstacles. And those obstacles more than make up for the flat grounds.
- Outstanding tee signs. They're a must on this course with so many blind baskets throughout the course.
- Very nice park: playground, walking trails, pond for fishing. Wife even noted how clean the restrooms were.

Cons:

Water, water, and more water. I do not know how flooded this course typically is. I suspect the course wasn't built with the goal of having standing water on 1/3 of the holes. I do suspect the designers did plan to put baskets within 10 - 20 find of the pond.
- If the course was at its nadir when I played, my impression of the course would somewhat change. If this is close to typical play, this is not a good course. Just like Tidal Creek in West Ashley, the course plays much better in one portion of the year vs another.
- Knowing this course floods so easy, I'd expect more ease on other portions of the course, be it alternative baskets, wider fairways/easier hole or two, or something to distract you from.
- As good as #13 could be, it's a fail in my book. My tee shot landed within 10 feet of the basket, skidded along the ground, and ended in the water. It was 4 feet from the edge of the green, but the water/mud was already above knee high, so had to retrieve with a stick. I'm in gimmie birdie range, but I'm OB? My issue is for players not familiar with the course, such as me, not knowing you're in the water 7 feet from the basket is a BIG problem.
- There are long stretches of uninspiring holes. From #3 - 8, nothing stood out in this section. I threw 225 down the middle and was fine on each hole. Maybe because these holes are so basic that I thought #9 - 13 was such a fun, scenic stretch.
- I do not recall seeing a single bench or trashcan on the course. I could be wrong though. Let me know if I am.
- I don't understand the random basket halfway down the fairway on #18. Is that another hole? Did I miss something?

Other Thoughts:

Sarge is a very nice park. Sarge has some good holes. Sarge has many less desirable parts too.
- There are boardwalks running the fairway on holes #2 & 3. That leads an amateur sleuth to deduce these holes tend to be swampy and flooded. Maybe don't have holes with 12-foot wide fairways playing over this portion of land?
- There were drier & nicer parts of the park that would be big upgrades to the course.
- #13 & 15 summed up the course at its worst. On #13, I found out a portion of the hole was flooded after landing my disc in the middle of the fairway, only to find it was in the water. I'm thankful for long sticks. On #15, you're playing 559 feet from the longs. There's swampy water on both sides of the fairway, there's thick rough, and there's a narrow fairway. Why would anyone less than the best of players throws anything more than a short, safe shot? And if you throw, 250-250-two-putt for a par 4, how is this a fun or even relevant hole?
- This course would be impossible to navigate without the tee signs. Major appreciation that each tee has its own tee sign versus the cheaper one tee sign per hole regardless of how many tees.
- Compared to the rest of the course, #20 seemed like a wide-open bomber hole. Only the long tee has water in play. Otherwise, you're only dealing with trees, so let it rip.
- The course seems like it needs one solid cleanup. Cut back some of the branches, widen the fairways, and make sure all signage (next tee signs), is up to date.
- If the course is never this flooded, I may be off base with my review. I was not impressed with this course. It was just a longer Tidal Creek. Playing the shorter tees, it was the same course as Tidal Creek. Move this course out of the swamp and it gets an immediate boost. As it is, you know what you're getting into, so come prepared.

Technical fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 4, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Amazing course. I'm new to the game and have only played a couple courses in my hometown of asheville, but this one was a ton of fun.

-if traveling to Hilton head, it's an easy stop on your way there. About 40 minutes from the island.

-whoever designed this and the local club who maintains it, fantastic job!! The layout is tight and challenging, the walk ways and tee boxes are in great shape.

-did not use a map, and we were able to navigate all 18 holes with ease. We struggled with 19 and 20 but probably our fault.

-beautiful place. Great surroundings. The rough isn't as thick as the mountains of NC, so when you toss one off the fairway it's an easy find.

Cons:

My complaint has nothing to do with the course. We went after a quick rain shower on a 94 degree day in June. The mosquitoes on the holes inside the woods were monsters. Bring bug spray bc those things will murder you.

No cons about this place.

Other Thoughts:

This is a must play for any disc golfer coming within its radius. Trust me, you won't regret it.

The Swampy Sarge! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 31, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The Sarge is one of those courses that is both memorable and extremely frustrating. When it's dry, this is one of my favorite places to play. Each hole offers different lines and challenges. You'll end up throwing just about every shot in your arsenal during a round out here. Most of the holes are through the woods, but the fairways are wide enough that casual rec players like me can usually get away with some off-line throws. Most of the rough is accessible enough that you won't spend very long looking for ricocheted drives. the baskets are all in good condition and the course is remote enough that usually it's not very busy. The course resides within Sergent Jasper Park and offers camping and other amenities. Scenery is beautiful out here as well. Some of the holes on the back side wrap around a very scenic lake and you'll even find yourself driving across it when playing from the blue tees or higher. There are 20 holes on the course that wrap around back to the parking near hole 1.

Cons:

When it rains, this place gets WET. A few of the holes have permanent bridges and walkways down the fairways to give the player an attempt to keep their feet dry. We've kind of made it a routine at the Sarge to not wear socks just because we know it's going to be soggy. The water from the ponds and lakes is close enough that if you catch a tree the right way it will swallow your disc. The water is home to alligators and other critters so it's not a good idea to go in after it. Due to the swampy nature of some of the course, it's not unlikely to encounter some slithery wildlife when playing a round.

Other Thoughts:

When it's dry, this is one of my favorite courses. It's quiet, it's relaxing, and quite frankly it's just fun. If you're traveling up or down I-95 and want to play a round, this is a great place to stop. It's 5 minutes from the interstate. It's also close enough to Savannah and Hilton Head to be playable if you're visiting either of these locations as well.

Must play on the way to HHI 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 9, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-multiple tees including white, blue and gold
-great use of tunnels and different directions
-fair fairways
-new holes added (19 and 20)
-fairly easy to follow even without a map
-well manicured
-difficult without being frustrating
-trashcans everywhere
-port-a-pot in the middle of the course (near 9)

Cons:

-prone to flooding (we are in the low country)
-mosquitos
-teepads could be a better material (they are rubber)

Other Thoughts:

Great course. This course gets lots of love and is just plain fun to play. We come down to Hilton Head every year and always play the Sarge on the way in and try to sneak off one morning and get another round in. This is a mostly wooded course that has nice cover (especially in that 90 degree heat) and has several shots over or around water. The fairways all have nice width at least around 15 feet wide with an actual lane to shoot for. the layout is great. I can go with some newer players and play the blues while they play the whites. The only hole I haven't figured out yet is 18. There are 2 pin placements and two sets of teepads (I think) for both placements... One is a 500+ monster with a lilypad **river**all along the left. That thing is an abyss and you will lose discs in there on early cut rolls or airshots that fade out. On the right is jail in the woods. It was a great finishing hole when there were 18 but I really like 19 and 20. 19 is a shorty to bring you back to reality with a simple putter turnover or sidearm through the next section of woods and 20 is just fun. Off the gold tee you throw over water and into a 30' wide lane that goes left and S's back to the right (should be 400+ to the pin from the golds). From the blues you have probably one of the tightest fairways on the course surrounded by jail and you have basically one lane to hit. Basket has water about 20 feet beyond it. These new holes really help finish the course out and the local club(I'm guessing) really puts a lot of work into this course. There is swamp on or around a lot of the holes but the bridges are great and they have done there best to keep your feet dry. One of my favorite course to play in SC (Stoney Hill and Pipeline being the other 2)

21 Gun Salute 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 12, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Sarge is a great course with typical Lowcountry terrain. Thick woods, swamp, lakes. All of these are used beautifully to create a tough but fair test of disc golf. Major recognition here for all of the excellent maintenance and upkeep that this course clearly gets.

OB and casual water are clearly delineated.

Multiple sets of tees allow for enjoyment from beginner to expert. It is clear that the preferred local set are the blue tees, but some of the golds offer spectacular throws over water to guarded positions. The golds, however, seem mostly for pros or masochists. The whites allow beginners to play the course with a significantly lessened, but still present, risk of losing plastic.

Kiosk at the start of the course has scorecards, pencils, and local rules which further help clarify OB vs casual water.

Great facilities at the clubhouse with very friendly staff. Portajohn about midway through the course.

Nice practice basket available by the parking lot.

Hole 12 is a beautiful throw across the water to a basket at the water's edge which is one of the prettiest holes I have played.

There are large rakes by some of the hazards to help unfortunate golfers retrieve their discs.

Cons:

As typical with Lowcountry courses, there is a lot of casual water. The staff at The Sarge do a great job managing it with elevated walkways, bridges, steppingstones, etc. It took a lot of work to make this terrain playable. For the most part, they did an excellent job. But there are still a few lowlying problematic areas.

There were so many signs warning of gators that it became a bit unsettling...I didn't see any large reptiles though.

Very high disc loss potential, especially on the blues and golds.

Inconsistent tee boxes. Most of the blues are rubber. The golds are mixed and most of the whites are dirt. That is a definite area where The Sarge could see some improvement.

There is a 5-10 minute walk back after the 18th hole (at least its a pretty one around the lake). EDIT - this has probably changed since the addition of holes 19-20. I will update my review if I am able to return to play again.

Other Thoughts:

This is what Lowcountry disc golf should be. Well used water hazards. Fairly used foliage that is pruned. The ground is cleared wonderfully. Lines are sometimes tight, but never are you faced with poke-and-pray situations. There is always a visible flightpath.

I'm not really sure about the 18a vs 18b situation. 18a is short and tucked in the right rough, whereas 18b is from the same teebox but a few hundred feet longer with a canal on the left. I don't know if this was absolutely necessary. Seems odd to have only 1 hole with an alternate basket position.

The Sarge: Beware of Gators 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Sarge was a very scenic, fun course that will challenge even the best of players. The locals were very friendly and helpful. The course was pretty crowded, which I like to see. There were restrooms throughout the course. The baskets and tees were in very good shape, and the course was free of any trash. The navigation and signs were great, and I was able to navigate the course with ease. There are multiple tees. I love hole 12 because it is a tough shot over water to the basket.

Cons:

The course was very muddy. When I played, it rained the day before. I got freaked out a little when I saw a alligator swimming close to shore, but I didn't encounter a gator on land. I'm not a fan of the mixed match tees(Carpet and natural), but I can deal with it.

Other Thoughts:

I went to The Sarge while I was on vacation this year, and it was a fun experience. If you are vacationing in the area, I would recommend you play The Sarge before you leave.

My Home Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 3, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Tight technical course that will test your skills. Baskets are in great condition - tee boxes are mixed surfaces, but are level ... they have improved the drainage issues. This is a Lowcountry course. Yes, there are snakes and alligators; no, they do not pose a great risk - don't believe the hype :) - Multiple tee boxes for different skill levels. Easy to navigate. **NEW** As of 11/1/15 Holes 19 (par 3) & 20 (par 4) have been added - no more "long walk back from 18"

Cons:

There are very few opportunities to rip it wildly - which can be fun. You may loose a disc or two if you make errant throws.

Other Thoughts:

Great course - awesome to have this as my home course!

White Tees very short - great for beginners and family games.

Club locals play blue tees mostly

Golds are for expert players only! Not recommended for players with SSA under 950.

Course is well marked, but in case you want to know in advance;
* Water on 1, 2, 9, 10, 11,12, 13,14, 15, 16, 18, 19 & 20 all OB
* 12 green is played as an "Island" - yellow rope behind green signifies back of green. Long is OB: Player should re-tee.
* Water on both sides of 13 is OB
* Rope along edge of marsh on right of 15 - all OB. Pond left at 250' is also OB.
* All roads are OB

Woodsy/Isolated, Great Disc Golf 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 28, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Multiple tees (White, Blue, and Gold). All are visible and easy to find. You can customize your DG experience.
-Long holes are interspersed with tight/technical holes providing variety so it doesn't feel like long throw after long throw.
-The Sarge is conveniently located right off the interstate.
-Hole 1 is easy to find and the course flows well. At no point was I wandering to find the next tee.
-Lots of water hazards really challenge you and force you to play smart.
-One of the biggest positives of this course is that it is designated Disc Golf only and you don't have to contend with dog walkers, playgrounds, picnics, etc.
-Mixed tees (Mats, natural, etc.), but none were hazardous.
-Great course for tournament play. Holes are spaced well.
-The course does not seem to be too crowded as there were only two other groups on a warm, Saturday afternoon.
-This course has that isolated ambience where it is just you and nature.

Cons:

-Long walk back from hole 18
-Extremely marshy/muddy on many holes.
-The rough is punishing at times, but not so much that you lose a disc. However, it is VERY easy to lose one in the water in several places.
-Major risk of animal encounters here

Other Thoughts:

This is a really good/challenging course with lots of water and risk/reward shots (Hole 1 being a true risk/reward shot). You have to be able to execute many types of shots in order to score well at The Sarge. I would be overjoyed if this were my home course.

I Long Delayed it, then Enjoyed it 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 21, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Despite the lack of courses in the area, I'd always avoided coming here. Most of what was in the reviews and just in the general description kept me away. I always said that I would wait till winter. I wanted to play it at its driest, and I wanted to the chance for animal encounters to be as small as possible. And maybe I was right to do so. Maybe it will be a worse experience in the summer. I'll give it another shot in the spring to test. But the course that I experienced this winter was a really fun play.

There's a ton of water. In these conditions it's mostly in well-marked OB areas. There are some swampy areas but they only trouble the truly errant shot. And any hole here that is exciting, it's because of the water. Was probably my favorite hole on the course, across at least 200 feet of water with the basket placed so a shot over the water can swoop in from the right. There's another cool carry later on, The length is about the same but this time it's a straight shot with only a small gap in the shoreline trees on the other side to aim through, with branches ready to know misplaced throws into the water. On the other holes, the water is more a menace than obstacle, with one or both sides boasting a strictly-enforced fairway.

Since some of the previous reviews, tee pads and signs have been put in. With one big exception navigation was a breeze here and the course flows well. The rubber tee pads on most of the blue tees work well enough. In retrospect, I probably needlessly delayed my trip here and will make at least a few returns.

Cons:

Water to the left, water to the right, nice. Water between the tee and the pin, better. Water in the middle of the fairway, bad. They've done a really nice job building walkways for when the course is flooded. But if the fairways on the first few holes are flooded to the point where I would need those, I'd get back in my car and go to Tom Triplett. Casual water where it isn't supposed to be is one of my least favorite things. Water on a disc golf course is supposed to be about elation for a shot gone right, with an element of risk. Well there is nothing exhilarating about finding your disc in unmarked, ankle-deep water after hitting your target zone. And there isn't really any risk, when you'll be trudging through muck no matter where you throw. When I played, this wasn't a problem. It was November. But I could see where the water would go when it was high. I could see what would easily turn into swamp. And that limits the course for me, seasonally.

I feel like the white tees avoid most of the standing water and make the course playable during bad conditions but most of them are really short. Too short for it to be worth it go there and play them.

When the water is in the proper place, there are still a lot of holes that just aren't that interesting. There are a lot of straight shots down fairways that aren't narrow enough to be considered tight, but aren't wide enough (and don't have the distance) to air out drives. There are also a ton of trees in the middle of fairways. Just a ton of mid-range shots played safely between marsh areas. Not that that type of shots are bad. There is just a bit too much of that.

That said, it could easily earn another half point by clearing up the 18 mess. The last hole is on the other side of the road, and it brings you really far from the entrance. If I played again, I would just play 17 and call it a day. It's not the great of a hole, it's just long and straight and the fairway is wide enough to keep it from being of any interest. At the end, you need to backtrack to a small bridge and then turn left to get to a small path that leads a long way back to the start. But there is no sign that indicates you need to to do that. The intuitive path to take is the one that leads back past the basket. This way will lead back to the start too but it will be a very long path around the pond.

The obvious solution to this would be adding holes 19 and 20. The path that you walk along is already as good of a fairway as many here. Playing that as 19, with water to the right would alleviate some of the walk. And 20 could be sweet. The blue tee would feature the longest carry of the course, across a corner of that pond, although the walk from the tee to the landing zone would be annoyingly long. It looks like someone is in the process of happening as there is a basket in place where 20 would logically go. Without the logical 19 in place though, it just means a long walk between 18 and 19.

Worth the stop 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 13, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course was easily navigable once I found hole one, you need to cross the street from the park entrance, after that it was very easy to find your way. Course was very clean and well maintained. GPS took me right to park. Few great ace looks from the blue tees. Errant shots are not rewarded, but you can recover from them. Staff at the office was friendly and helpful. Course plays with many scenic views over all. Map in office. Holes had very descent spacing between pads. I played the blue; there were also yellow and white pads for different skill levels. The yellow pads look like a few needed trimming. Straight shots are the normal here

Cons:

This course is definitely one where it depends on when you come; if there is a lot of rain looks like you can deal with a lot of water on the course. They did do a great job of adding some small walking bridges to avoid this; however there still was a lot of area especially on the first few holes that still were holding water (were these OB or not). Some holes had yellow rope behind holes, I guess this was out of bounds did not notice marked on the sign. There was little technical ability needed other than being able to throw the distance and straight. I did not see any snakes even though the area looked like I should have seen them. Bring a bug spray with high deed count; you may lose a pint of blood if you do not. Hole 18 is far from the parking lot, the lady inside said if I walked towards the road I could have played a 19th hole on the way back, this was not on my map.

Other Thoughts:

Being my first time here, I found the course very fun to play. There are a few things I did not see on the course information tab. At the office I had to fill out a play pass and put in the drop box. The park closes at 6, so if you are playing past 6 it says to park outside the gate. There is room to do this around hole 1. Information says they raffle of a disc every month, maybe for locals only. They sell discs limited selection, they have Sarge printed mini's and regular discs. Regular were sold out if you collect.

This is a fun disc golf course where being a straight thrower is a premium, like many other people before me who have played here you must watch your step at all times, yes there are snakes and gators present but the challenging fairways are really fun.

Cons:

being a course in the low country brings a problem here, it is flat and rain water (floods) this piece of land, along with that comes the skeeters so bring bug spray and goretex shoes, other than that no cons here

Other Thoughts:

i enjoy this course alot wish i was closer to here so i could play here more often, did i mention bring DEET.....

A hidden gem 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 24, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great scenery, well marked pads, tee signs. Cool shots!
Course was in pretty good shape too

Cons:

I felt uneasy after reading a couple of prior reviews regarding the wildlife. I didnt see anything dangerous but I did hear some large creatures moving around near the water.

Not enough people playing the course (from what I saw)

Other Thoughts:

It is easy to access and it feels like you are miles from civilization, except for the loud highway traffic

Watch the ground near the water 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I love this course and play it every time i'm over this way!

Cons:

Grass needs more frequent maintaining (esp. on Hole 15). High grass invites un-welcomed reptiles...

Other Thoughts:

Just wanted to give all readers a little piece of advice...Please pay close attention to the ground while retrieving your disc near ANY water on this course. In my past two visits, I have seen both a water moccasin and an alligator while picking up my disc. In all honesty, I didn't notice the water moccasin until I saw its back end slithering into the water; so I could have easily been a victim. The Sarge is a wonderful course and very fun to play. Do NOT let these words of advice scare you away from this course! I know that I'll be going back...probably tomorrow!

Very Challenging and Unique Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 6, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is one of the most scenic courses I have played. It was fairly easy to find using the GPS coordinates and directions off the DGCR page. There was plenty of parking and great restroom facilities with some vending machines. There was also a playground if anyone were to bring kids along. Practice basket by the main facility as well. The park attendant was very helpful and informative. I found the course to be well maintained. The baskets were in good shape. I'd say about half the blue tees were natural and half were a carpet type material that was smooth, large enough, and provided good traction. I played the blue tees, which were challenging enough for me. They had shorter white tees, which were pretty short, and longer gold tees on most holes, which appeared to add a good degree of difficulty. All the white and gold tees appeared to be natural. Signage was very helpful on holes that still had the signs as there were a lot of holes where the basket was not visible, and with so much water around, you really want to know where you are throwing. There was a nice variety of shots. 2 holes were over water, and most of the rest had water to at least one side of your throw. Not much elevation. About the only elevation is a raised basket, maybe 5 feet high. Another hole throws over a slight crest that prohibits seeing the basket. There was no undergrowth when I played. The course was not crowded (Sunday about 11 AM).

Cons:

One of the things that makes this course unique are the gators. We saw one while we were playing. Another HUGE con for me personally is snakes. I hate snakes. Luckily I did not see any, but I don't see how that could be the norm. It's in a swamp with pine trees and pine needles covering everything. I was so afraid that while I was focused on finding my disc, I'd step on a rattler or moccasin. I don't see how you could play in the middle of summer and not see a snake. There was a lot of walking. The first tee is maybe a ¼ mile from the parking lot and the last hole is probably a ½ mile from the parking lot. I personally don't mind walking, but it adds time to your round for sure. About half of the holes had sign posts but were missing the signs. If your disc goes in the water, it's probably gone. You are pretty brave if you go in after them. There are also signs posted saying if you swim, you are trespassing. The activity center was packed with people for some sort of group gathering.

Other Thoughts:

I value unique courses, and this one certainly fits that description with water coming into play on a majority of holes. I am thankful I played this course in November and thankful it hadn't rained in a while. This course is in a swamp, but due to my lucky timing, it was fairly dry and there were no bugs to deal with. I didn't have much trouble finding the holes. The flow seemed fairly intuitive. The maps that were supplied were helpful the few times I had a question. I found the course very difficult. Anything less than precise throws were generally punished severely. A couple holes didn't seem to have a clear throwing path and it just took luck to get through. You have to sign in at the activity center and supply emergency contact info. I don't know if this is in case you get into it with a gator or snake, but this is the only place I can think of where I have had to do that. Overall, I had a blast playing this course and highly recommend.

Great course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 21, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Challenging course with lots of trees and narrow fairways. Half of the holes border a beautiful crystal clear lake.

Cons:

Depending on the tee you're throwing from some of the holes tend to play pretty short, but that doesn't necessarily mean easy. The tee pads usually aren't anything more than a couple of stakes in the ground and can be hard to spot sometimes. Finding the first tee box is kinda trickey too.

Other Thoughts:

Great course to play, but isn't as good as Tom Triplett over in Pooler.

Pros:

Great place to hone your technique. narrow tree guarded fairways.
Gators and snakes make excellent hazards for the disc golf adventurer

Cons:

Narrow tree guarded fairways do not help the player that doesn't have the straightest tee off.
Long walk from 18. they should definitely put a few more holes in. it doesn't feel like walking when you throwing :)

Other Thoughts:

Fun course, nice forest feel, very technical
