Very nice beginner course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 2, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great beginner course with a few technical shots. Nice easy walk and well laid out. Short holes are great for beginners working on their aim and form. Some longer holes including one par 4 allow for some work on long drives. Recent clearing of all the underbrush makes for a very clean and easy to navigate course with little possibility of losing discs. Many holes are easily aceable for even medium skilled players.

Cons:

Short holes will prove tame for more experienced players. After playing less than a month I am already throwing midrange discs of most tees. Close proximity to parking lots and playing fields provide hazards for new players learning to control their aim. Tee boxes are really terrible, worst thing about this course. Dirt that has worn down to roots in most places mean that you have to worry about where your feet are going instead of just on your shot.

Other Thoughts:

Overall this course is a wonderful course for beginners and anyone looking to get into the sport, or more experienced players looking to work on their short game.

Fun layout with potential... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 30, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

1. Signage- THE BEST I'VE EVER SEEN. Only on the front though. Some cages even have arrows pointing the way to the next tee.
2. Scenery- Environmental scenery is pleasent, but nothing special, however the course is spread through the sporting activities area of the campus with the female scenery being above average!
3. Course play/layout- Good to the course with holes 1 and 18 starting and ending close. Beginner freindly. Mostly open with some challenging holes but, I took a buddy that was only playing for the 2nd time and he finished +7 and he had fun even though the trees were his nemesis on a couple holes.
4. Cages- All cages were is good to excellent condition, well maked and easily identifiable. Most were put in an as challenging as possible location based on the course layout.
5. Amenities- Plenty of food and drink vending available on the front. There are a few benches, trash cans and bag holders throughout.

Cons:

1. Tee pads- Unsafe footing with dirt and roots on the majority of the holes. You can still use the same general area for the tee off and avoid the "well used" tee spots.
2. Signage- The back 9 holes lack good(if any) signage and flow so navigation isn't as smooth as the front but, manageable.
3. Amenities- Restrooms? If there were some I didn't know where to find them. No "pro-shop" or disc purchase/rental in the area.
4. Course play/layout- The front is smooth and fun and the back is a work in progress. If/when the back is cleaned up of the major clearing debri left behind, the proper signage put in, and some form of actual tee pad and this course will be good or higher easily.

Other Thoughts:

The front of this course is very good and like Sunset DGC this course has 2 different sides to it in the semi-technical/challenging and the open/boring 9's respectively. Definitely not a destination course but, I'd suggest this course if in the area, but only after you played the Blue Angel palmetto/oaks courses and even Sunset. When this course if complete, I think it could actually be rated a 3.5 so look for updates!

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 2, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course has a good layout using available spaces around the playing field, college buildings, parking lots and other recreational areas. The first 8 holes are pretty well manicured and easy to play.

Cons:

They have removed the plethora of sticker vines that overrun the last 9 holes. Thank you! However, I hope it is still a work in progress as it is now difficult to walk through with all of the small wood debris.

Other Thoughts:

This course becomes more difficult after hole 8 as the fairways are not well defined and are often rather narrow.

Bring back the trees 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 27, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great time on the front 9.... basket #5 was nowhere to be found & #6 gave no indication of misnumber! #5 was moved to back 9
Even though the course was relatively flat, it made use of some slight terrain. #11 played over a soccer field w/ the basket tucker right up a few steps, hillside :) Nice benches every few holes. Clear tee signs on front half

Cons:

Avoid #12-18! There has been a massive clearing which seemed to take a ton of challenge out of the course BUT even more frustrating was navigating. There were tee markers w/ orange tape at the top of them but no general direction of flow. The semi chipped floor made for uncomfortable traverse & disc dig.

Other Thoughts:

UWF will hopefully turn the back of this course in to something half as nice as the front!?! Fingers are crossed

Wow 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 18, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice college campus. Baskets all in good shape.

Cons:

Like my title says, Wow. Course on a very nice college campus but that's where it ended. Tee's except for one I believe, which happened to be on a walking path, were non existent. The dirt that was supposed to be tees were worn down to tree roots and were very unsafe. The front nine were playable, the back nine were a complete joke. No upkeep and very little imagination in tee/pin placement. NO directions from baskets to the next tee made it EXTREMELY confusing on where the next tee was. Course covers a lot of ground and without signage, you are pretty much lost without a guide, which I did not have.

Other Thoughts:

Potential is there, could be a fabulous course, but without someone taking the reins, this course will only go further downhill.

University of West Florida 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 15, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Vast difference in the front and back nine. Front 9 is fairly open while the back 9 is mostly wooded. Nice difference in hole difficulty between the 9s.

Cons:

Poorly marked course. Hard to navigate the course without a map. Even the map (from the University's website) isn't 100% accurate. Most tees are in bad shape with tree roots exposed on the dirt patch hole where the tee is located. Back nine needs lots of maintenance work in the tee box area and on some fairways..

Other Thoughts:

If the course were marked better and maintained better, it COULD be a nice, average course.

Good front 9 but back 9 needs work 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 17, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Front 9 and half of the back nine are fun to play. Nice use of land around the campus. Front nine great for beginners and allows for discs to really fly.

Cons:

Hole 5 does not exist because of construction. Signs could use improvement and some of the tees dont exist. As you get deeper into the back nine it really gets obnoxious......Those holes need work and trees and brush need to be cleared. Holes 17 and 18 are terrible....even for advanced players.

Other Thoughts:

Once the back nine get cleaned up and cleared it could be a great course.

My home course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 10, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is my home course and one of the first courses I played. I cleared out 17 and 18. So while I will try an stay objective I figure I might as well get that out.

The front "9" is a great beginners course. It is fairly open but does force you to pick some lines but won't penalize you too sharply if you miss them.

The back 9 will be good for intermediate to advanced players because it adds length and tighter lines.

Easy access to facilities and vending machines on the front nine.

There are a nice variety of backhand and flick lines.

Cons:

Some holes are close to parking lots so there is a danger of nailing someone's car.

The transition from 6-7 will be hard for people playing the course for the first time.

Dirt Tees.

UWF has recently removed hole 3 and 5. My understanding is that 3 will put back in, right now there is a trash can place holder :(

The back nine still has several places where an errant throw can cause you some time finding or losing a disc.

Other Thoughts:

If you live in the area you should definitely check the course out. I can't really suggest anyone that doesn't live in it's immediate vicinity take a long drive to play it. I love it but I also helped with it.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 10, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Starts off with a straight away, good chance to take a shot at a ringer. There's a good balance of right to left shots, as it zig zags through the campus. Difficulty level is high, but still doable for a not so experienced player.

Cons:

The back 9 starts off with an evil shot from right to left, through a tightly wooded narrow hallway of trees. Then to top it off you have an extra long par 4 afterwards, and the rest is mirrored through those first 2 holes. Because its such a new course, the fairways are surrounded by debris, so theres a high risk of losing a disc.

Other Thoughts:

Absolutely beautiful course

Pros:

This is my home course, so I may be a bit one sided. But this course is great for learning and for a challenge. Playing in the woods on most of the holes really helps to improve your accuracy.
A lot of different types of shots though.

Cons:

The course isn't quite finished yet.
We still have to do 17 and 18.
And we need to put the descriptions of each hole.
The biggest con of this course is that some of the holes are kind of far apart and if you don't know where the next hole is it could confusing; make sure you take a look at the map.
Also, on the back part of the course, if you don't stay on the fairway it might take awhile to find your disc.

Other Thoughts:

I play this course all the time, and still is tends to be challenging. 16 can get really frustrating!.

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 25, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice landscape. Good use of empty space on a college campus. Free to play. Parking is available. There's a map. Mostly marked.
Half clean, fun but putter shots and half tight in a jungle.

Cons:

The tight holes get sorta crazy, not much of a chance of anyone getting a good drive off. The last 3 holes do not exist yet, and there's no sign saying so so don't bother looking for them!
Dirt tees.

Other Thoughts:

Maybe by the end of the year it will be complete, it's all volunteer work.
