Pros:

Ample parking nice kiosk board and disc return box
Hole 1 starts off with a nice elevation downhill shot that's a super great disc golf hole. I liked this place a lot more than I was expecting to.
Great mix of long and short holes, with some nice tight but fair long lines through the woods! This place would be great for score separation, and demands accuracy with power. Great mix of forehand/backhand lines and will make you utilize every shot you can throw. 30 foot wire near most baskets is a plus and tee pads were in good shape.

Cons:

There was quite a bit of dog poop :/
Some spots can get overgrown may not be the best place for solo round, and spotters on some holes is very wise.
You have to cross the main road to get to the other part of the course hole 10 I think...being our first time we weren't aware of that, but thankfully there was a group kind of infront of us that we were able to locate
Navigation is a tiny bit tricky in some spots.

Other Thoughts:

This is honestly a better course than my expectations thought it would be. It's a great wooded course..like I said maybe not the best solo course but if your group loves wooded courses this is the place. The course is hard and very wooded but the lines are there to hit. It will make you a better player and better wooded player for sure.

HEAVY underbrush 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 11, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

A beautiful northwest forested course. Very, very tough, challenging, technical, and non-forgiving. .... Reasonably well marked. .... Great use of the elevation. ... Clean. .. Quiet.

Cons:

Very, very heavy underbrush. Let me repeat that - heavy underbrush! --- No big deal you say? Well one little glance off of a tree and you'll be searching for awhile. And there are plenty of trees. (yes, you will be spending time looking for discs on this course)

Other Thoughts:

I'm kind of torn when rating this course. It's a beautiful disc course. Well thought out. Clean. Challenging. Technical. --- And for that I'd give it a 4.5. ...... But with all of the extremely heavy underbrush, that really gets kind of annoying after awhile, I'd give it a 2.

Stay on the fairway and you're good 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 14, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Challenging woodsy course, many birdie able holes with a few longer more challenging par 3's. Really fun technical course that I think will just keep getting better with work being put into it every year. Great tee pads, trash bags on tees, a few benches, nice scenery, the association and volunteers do a great job of maintaining the course.

Cons:

Keep an eye or two or three on your disc, and it still might take a minute to find it. Spotters recommended on some holes. Thorns and stinging medals, so pants are nice to have when a disc hits a tree and lands in the underbrush. Spending extra time looking for discs that don't land in the fairway is my only real con.

Other Thoughts:

If it's your first or even second time playing disc golf ever I would recommend NAD park or the Bud Pell. You will lose a disc for sure, you'd be lucky to get past the first hole. This course taught me to really keep it on the fairway, too much danger off of it.

Bushy 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 20, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice use of terrain, has a mix of tight wooded holes with a few more open fairways. Includes a few long par 3s. Great cement tees with seating and garbage at most holes. Lots of parking available. Signage is good. Lost disc box is a definate bonus here. Multiple holes have "hazards" (spots where you don't want to put your disc), and I like that. A technically challenging course and a well managed one too.

Cons:

Many holes less than 250', but the use of elevation and trees keeps it challenging. Underbrush and blind throws contribute to lost discs. Stinging nettle also found here, wear pants.

Other Thoughts:

Our party didn't lose any, but we posted a spotter on most blind throws and there were still several disc hunts.
Great course to put pressure on your mid and short game. There are some throws that make you sweat and it shows on the score card.

Good Course, Great Challenge 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 23, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

With all 18 holes a Par 3 this is a good course for novice to slightly more advanced players.

Variety of angles and decent terrain.

Cons:

As mentioned in the other reviews the brush on the course does make it difficult to find a disc thrown off course. It has improved as more players go thru the course but my group and I have recovered 3 discs on a single run thru the course.

Other Thoughts:

As mentioned all the holes are Par 3 and may not present a challenge for more advanced players. That being said, for average players still learning this course is great.

One bad throw can land you in brush that will take a couple throws to get out of. Fighting with the foilage will certainly help train you to throw straight and true.

My opinion-hardest course in the Northwest 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 17, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great parking. All holes marked and have cement tee pads. This course is for players who desire to play a technical and challenging course. All holes have a possible chance for a great drive with the reward of a possible birdie...I repeat "possible chance". If you don't have a good drive then you are scrambling to (*1*) find your disc..(2) throw some kind of hizer-tomahawk-roller. Great deep woods course, you know you're playing in the woods in the north not in a field or pasture...you will need all you're shots/throws/tricks to conquer this course. Hole 8 very hard par 3. Hole 13 very hard par 3...this hole is well protected by the woods. Hole 17 very hard par 3...this hole is well protected by the woods.

Cons:

Not for beginners! Nettles, devil's club, blackberries and other sticker bushes. If you go off the fairway, which in most cases is only 15 feet wide you will be in the MAJOR search mode. Expect 20-40 minutes of disc searching.

Other Thoughts:

Lost a disc last night. Deep off course when my drive on 7 went way into the woods on the right. It isn't pretty down in that area. Longandwrong was not what I wanted :)
I have played this course at least 150 times and as a right handed forearm thrower it is very very difficult to score. If you have a good straight 200-250 backhand you will be rewarded. Have a great day playing here. You will have a course to remember and talk about for a long time.

Hardest Kitsap course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 22, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Wow, you want the challenge of every throw counting? This is the place. Deep woods, heavy undergrowth that will make you throw every type of throw plus every disc you carry. Great parking, good pads, good signs. Playable all year around. Not a crowded course!

Cons:

Deep underbrush makes for lost disc's (there is a found disc box that allows people to go to Team Sports and retrieve their lost disc.) Also you must watch out for Nettles and other sharp plants if your throw is errant. No toilets of any kind.

Other Thoughts:

Consider this the hardest course in Kitsap county which makes me play it over and over. Come to Kitsap...3 great courses within 8 miles...2 within 1.5 miles. Make a day of it.

Wow this course was bad. The only good i can come up with is i found three other peoples disc while searching for my own and all had phone numbers on them so they got reunited with their owners.

Cons:

Not a course for beginners or intermediates. You will loose a disc or two. Poor maintenance, kids smoking pot in several places, broken bottles in many places, trash, unsafe road crossing, not well marked in places.

Fairgrounds is a fair challenge 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 19, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Good variation from hole to hole. You will see AMPLE vegetation, plenty of obscured shots, shots to the left, shots to the right, elevated throws and throws down hill.
- Unique shots (for example: one hole will have you shooting over a small valley, another will have you shooting over a muddy swamp area).
- Tee shots are nice and flat.
- Ample parking.
- There is an extra basket up near the parking area to warm up. Behind this warm up area are some nice soccer fields if you feel like airing a few out before starting.
- Very clean with a lot of trash bins.
- Disk drop box at the start of the course (you will appreciate this feature as my groups alone have been here 3 times and have found and returned 3 disks to the drop box).
- Good distance variety on the shots. You will see distances range from 150 - 300+.
- Nice scenery. You feel isolated in the beautiful wilderness.

Cons:

- Too much underbrush! You will spend a lot of your time looking for your disks in blackberries, tall grass and stinging nettles. Make every shot count and be careful if you are wearing shorts!
- While the place is marked on most shots, you will still get turned around on a couple of holes (most notably when you have to cross the street to play 10-16 and then have to cross back to play 17-18).
- Crossing the street around hole 9 seems dangerous with no crosswalk.

Other Thoughts:

Most of the issues I have with this course is with the dense blackberry and stinging nettles. You can expect to add about an hour to your play time just to look for disks if you are just beginning to play or have issues with LH holes that bank to the right. That being said, the course is clean, fairly well marked and a good challenge to most skill levels.

Fairgrounds a Fair Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 6, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Challenging with lots of trees and many L-shaped shots.
- A variety of distances from 100+ feet to over 400 feet shots.
- Very cleanly kept and maintained. There was a garbage bag kept at every tee.

Cons:

- Crossing the street to the other side (to basket 8 ... then back across to basket 17) can be a bit dangerous as the road is a busy one. Too bad there wasn't a safer way across, or a crosswalk available. Though with a bit of common sense fol;ks should be fine.
- Only one tee per shot (I think one hole had a second choice. This didn't bother me much personally, but I'm sure as my skill grows, a second more difficult shot, might be enjoyable).
- Watch out for the Stinging Nettles around the mid-to-later half of the first 7 holes. Very swampy in this area and if your disk flies off the course then you'll likely find some right on the off-path trails. Especially for those who are wearing shorts.

Other Thoughts:

I loved this course. I found it quite challenging. It was also simply a great hike. Kept very clean and beutifully maintained. Probably my personal favorite course so far as I enjoyed the walk-around.

Sweet, Enjoyable, Challenging, Fun. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 15, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Plenty of parking
-Grippy concrete tees
-Good tee and next tee signage
-Good benches and bag hooks
-Good baskets
-Well maintained
-Good mix of left, right, up, down
-Challenging tight lines on some holes, but still lots of birdie opportunities
-A few unique holes

Cons:

-Land is almost uniformly wooded, so no way to have long bomber holes in the open (not really a con, the course is designed very well for the site)
-A couple missing next tee signs made first time navigation a little difficult

Other Thoughts:

Kitsap Fairgrounds is a sweet little course in the woods with plenty of birdie opportunities but more than enough challenging design to make it both fun and interesting. I played in a dry mid-November and neither undergrowth nor drainage were an issue at all. It is clearly a well-loved and maintained course. Next tee signs help a first timer on almost every hole, with well worn paths making up for a couple of missing signs.

I thought the design was very well thought out and wrested almost everything from the available landscape features, with up and down a constant, and plenty of variance in left, right, and straight ahead holes. I'm a Pacific NW disc golfer with an aging arm and no super distance ability and I love wooded courses. This course takes technical skill and like most heavily wooded courses, you can get in trouble fast off the tee. You can also rack up the birdies on this course ( I did not). A few unique holes really stood out including a short, sharp left-right downhill, a shot across a gully, and a very tight fairway steep downhill. Sorry, can't remember the numbers, and the maps here need to be updated as this is now numbered as an 18 hole course.

Although there is validity to the thought that there is a little too much "sameness" to the holes, I don't think there was much of a solution for the design of this course. It's heavily wooded and short of massive tree and vegetation removal there's not much to be done about it. The beauty here is the use of elevation, the challenging but still fun aspects of the course, and the great close to town but still feels like you are out in the forest feel. I'll be back!

Fairgrounds DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 14, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Concrete Tees
-Good Baskets
-Benches and Bag hooks on a lot of holes
-Good area, not overcrowded
-Bulletin board at the beginning of the course with lots of good information
-Lost disc box at the beginning of the course

Cons:

-LOTS of undergrowth, much of it thorny. Makes keeping an eye on your disc imperative and wearing jeans vice shorts is preferable when you have to go hunting for it

-Some of the signage is water/sun faded and good be a little more descriptive. I think i'd prefer an overhead layout vice a picture with an arrow showing the tee.

-I think there's a missing "next tee" sign at the end of hole 4, making finding hole 5 a little tricky if you haven't played here before. Though if you follow the beaten path to the left you'll find your way.

Other Thoughts:

After being away from the sport for over 6 years, this was my first course getting back into the sports. My sloppy shot meant a lot of time searching in the growth for discs, something i wasn't much used to being used to the more open courses in Colorado.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 3, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Concrete tees, quality baskets, info kiosk, lost disk return box. Benches on many tees.
- Course is clearly defined, with adequate signage.
- An excessive amount of parking is available.
- Practice basket in vicinity of tee one.
- I consider the blind throws a positive.
- Soccer fields next to parking lot convenient for practicing long drives (500 ft of open field).
- Holes are legitimate par 3's, and not pitch and toss like Van Zee.
- Some unique holes such as #16.
- Low traffic, peaceful atmosphere. Area is used only for disc golf, with occasional use by cross-country team.
- Course is actively managed by the WSDGA.

Cons:

-Nothing longer than a par 3, and longest hole is 423 ft. That's actually a major ding in my book, as it removes a major element of game play.

-The undergrowth does have quite an appetite for disks. I lost three at this course when I first started playing (none since then). Two of those throws were really hideous, and the other was just bad. But even with good throws I spend more time than I like searching for my disks, even after an approach shot. It's easy to catch a bad bounce off a tree, and the ferns mandate keeping a close eye on the path of your disc for EVERY throw, not just the ones you think are going to be trouble. This is not as bad on holes 10 through 16.

- Hole #5 is _quite_ muddy and could use improved drainage. It appears that efforts are occurring to improve this. You're fine with a good throw, but a tree shot can drop your disc short and last time this happened to me, I was very happy to be wearing boots because I sank ankle deep retrieving it.

- Hole #5 is also the limiting factor for strollers. I haven't tried taking one on the course yet, but would say you are currently limited to jogging strollers, and then only if you're willing and able to muscle it up the steep, narrow (but short) path on number five.

Other Thoughts:

There's a work party scheduled for July 16th to clear brush.

Despite the course not being as tidy as NAD, I think that the actual gameplay is better here at Fairgrounds. The holes are more interesting.

Special events sometimes limit access to the course due to it being located at the Fairgrounds. This can include closure of Fairgounds Road between Tibardis Road and Tracyton Blvd. I once encountered a tent pitched directly on tee number one inhabited by a traveling fair attendee.

Pros:

beautiful pacific northwest forest course. lots of tall trees, large ferns, and some rhodedendrons.
GREAT use of elevation.
decent sized cement teepads
average hole signs, excellent "next tee" signs.
great variation of shot selection- a RHBH thrower better be good at his anhyzer/ forearm shot!
most holes are birdie-able.
trashbags hanging at most holes. (ugly, but useful) I didn't see any trash on the course.
nice hooks scattered through the course for bags.

Cons:

crossing the road is a bummer, but understandable.
the heavily wooded setting sets up some pretty wild ricochets into other fairways or thick underbrush.
too many holes had blind teepads making it tough on beginners and increasing the likliness of a lost disc
the hole signs left me wanting...

Other Thoughts:

this was a fun course.
the greatest challenge is accuracy here- not distance.
the trees can be punishing, but if you nail your line, a birdie can be had on every hole.

it's muddy in the rainy weather, so choose footwear accordingly!

Kitsap Fairgrounds DGC 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 20, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Kitsap Fairgrounds is a great course in a beautiful northwest setting. It has plenty of elevation changes and intricate holes due to tight fairways and difficult pin placements. This course has a lot to offer and can be extremely challenging for intermediate and advanced players alike. When I arrived to hole one I was greeted by a large kiosk that informed players as to what was going on around the Puget Sound disc golf community. There was a warm up basket near by and a wonderful metal disc return box (which I wish more courses had).

What made this course so challenging to me was that many of the holes tended to be geared toward left handed or side armed players which was unusual considering most courses favor right handed players. Because of that I found that this course attacked the weaker aspects of my game which I appreciated. It helped me work on straightening out some of my issues and allowed for a very challenging round.

The signs for the course are fantastic. They look as if they had been done by Google maps, with full color and distance shown. The tee pads were cement which was vital considering the course is located in the northwest where disc golf and it can get extremely muddy around these parts. The bag holders were a nice addition so that players would not find themselves sticking their bags in the harsh elements.

Many holes provided multiple approaches to each hole however tight those might be. The fairways were for the most part tight or very tight, with dense foliage on either side making your upshot difficult. Accuracy is key to scoring well on this course, as is knowing where the pin is located.

Cons:

As others have stated, many holes seem to be redundant. Although they were well thought out, it would have been nice to see more of a variety to allow for more types of shots. Rarely did I find myself using a powerful backhand (more like a strong sidearm, an approach shot, and then a putt). The first seven holes seemed to have a lot of brush as well. I had a hard time trying to find the baskets and/or my disc because of the amount of growth on and off the fairways. As time goes on I hope that these holes get cleared up so that they can be as great as the rest of the course.

Other Thoughts:

I really enjoyed my time at the Fairgrounds. Their signature hole #16 was one of the better holes that I have played since I began this great game over 11 years ago. The hole is a 329 foot par 3 that drops about 50-60 feet in elevation. On both sides are rows of trees that are unforgiving, turning what would be a par or even birdie shot in to a bogie or double bogie. As I have stated in other reviews regarding the courses around the area, I love the atmosphere on this side of the state and feel like the locals have and are continuing to do a fantastic job with the land they have allotted. I look forward to the next time I get to play this course. Keep up the good work!

Fairgrounds 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 10, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is similar to the other courses in the area in that it is a technical course with short holes and tight fairways which I happen to love. If you can master dead straight shots, short hyzers and short anhyzers who can finish with a great score here, the mix of right and left turns are done very well. This time of year when I played it there was no under brush and the local club just put in brand new tee signs which are very helpful. This is the best time of the year to play this course if you can stand the cold, the concrete tee pads didn't even have ice on them.

Cons:

Being it was my first time playing the course my score was a lot higher than usual because of the many number of blind basket locations. There was a fair amount of elevation which is a good thing for the course but combined with a little bit of walking from hole to hole can make you get tired. If you like long open bomb holes this is not the course for you. During the summer months this course gets over grown and swallows discs for all of eternity.

Other Thoughts:

This is a great little course on the Fairgrounds that is playable all year round as long as there isn't something going on at the Fairgrounds. This is my favorite type of course with tough fairways and all the holes under 400 feet, I would be glad to go back.

Pros:

Disc golf only setting. Very good signeage. #1 and #16 would both be in the running for course signature hole. Some good landscaping using downed trees for benches and stairs. Hard working, dedicated crew doing a good job. These people take pride in what they do!

Cons:

Many blind shots, having to walk half way or more down fairways to see the basket. This will probably open up in the future with more play. But, right now is the most open of the year, just before spring, and its hard to see your target. I imagine a lot of lost plastic when trees start filling in and ferns fill up.

Bring your forehand or turnover backhand shot. Many anhyser shots. Too many. I forgot what hole I was on because it seemed like I just played the same anhyser shot over again.

Other Thoughts:

Many courses "favor" right hand, back hand players. This course "loves" the lefty! This is a woods course. There is no wide open long holes. The design fits in well with the terrain. Lots of elevation is used in hole design.

Improvements occurring 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 15, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Nice woods setting. The "Callison 9" has been fairly well cleared and is easily playable. Thought was given to the basket placements. Lots of elevation changes. The "next tee" signage is outstanding as of 8/3/2008.

Cons:

Hard to find course from the Kitsap Fairgrounds parking lot (park in the Gordon Field parking lot to find the course). I couldn't find any signs or course maps (at the fairgrounds parking lot).
The tees on the "Gordon 9" are in undeveloped condition. More brush needs to be cleared.

Other Thoughts:

The course has nine holes on each side of Fairgrounds Drive. They used to be called "Callison 9" and "Gordon 9". However, the current course signage has you starting at Tee #1 in the Gordon section, playing 7 holes, crossing the road and playing the nine in the Callison section and then crossing back and finishing 17 and 18 in the Gordon section. So you are starting and ending at the west side of the Gordon parking lot. If you find the first tee you are set because the current state of the "next tee" signage is excellent.

The course is entirely in the woods with some big trees and fern under story. Every hole seems to have elevation change. Rarely are you standing on flat ground. The course is slowly becoming clearer of brush. I noticed that some ferns have been removed from one of the fairways. It is a work in progress and the roughs are thick with ferns and bushes that will gobble your disc.

As far as potential goes this could become one of the best courses around Puget Sound. It has several advantages in that it is a Disc Golf only space, it has deep woods and constant elevation change. They are taking care to open up the fairways so there will be actual fairways and not just a wall of trees which I think is a really good sign. This will be a really cool course when it is all said and done. With new tee pads and a little more brush clearing I would rate the course 4 or higher.

Don't park in the Kitsap Fairgrounds parking lot, park in the Gordon Field parking lot at the corner of Fairgrounds and Tibardis and look for the first tee at the west side.

A Lot of Work Went Into This Short Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 4, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

I agree with most of what the previous reviewer said. All things considered, this is a fun little nine hole course. The penalties for throwing your shot a little to the left or right are quite severe, so accuracy is definitely at a premium.

Cons:

Many of the "cool" hole number signs have already been broken/vandalized. For someone new to play the course, you usually have to walk about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way to the hole to determine where you are supposed to be going (blind tee shots), so for me and my group (who had never played this course), it took some extra time and effort.

Other Thoughts:

Absolutely no one else was playing the course around noontime on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, so I hope it gets enough players on a regular basis to help keep it in good shape.
