Why bother? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 9, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

* You won't lose your disc.
* Regardless of skill level, you will complete the course in under 30 minutes.
*. Signage is good (albeit not even needed).

Cons:

* Course was designed without any real consideration of using any of the existing landscape (read: trees). There aren't a ton of trees to begin with, but the few that there are will not even factor into your shots. It is beyond explanation or reason why the baskets would be strategically placed AWAY from any tree(s). So, every hole is literally EXACTLY the same with a bit of difference in how far away the basket is.
* Water has always been an issue on the course (and I am not talking a lake/pond; I am referring to just sopping wet grass). For whatever reason, it can not rain for days, yet many of the holes will find you sloshing your way to the next hole (looking at you holes 7&8).
* The grass, even when cut, is not very short. Perhaps they keep the blade so high because it is constantly wet. Or perhaps because the grass is extremely thick. Either way, it will feel like you are walking in a field with ankle to calf high grass (which I will remind you, is all wet).

Other Thoughts:

I happen to live 5 minutes from this course, so therefore, by a horrible twist of fate, this would technically be my "home" course. Loyal is not a destination town and there is no real convenient reason one would pass through Loyal unless you were trying as it is fairly far off the path from HWY 29 or HWY 10. If you are anywhere remotely in this region, you will have most likely found MARSHFIELD has two different courses and your time would be entirely best spent playing there.

In summary, unless you live in Loyal, or have family that lives within 5 minutes of this course, you will have no shot to drive by or see this course, and I can promise you your life will be better for it.

Loyal to a fault 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 2, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) No interference with other activities on this side of the park.
2) There are some trees as obstacles, they are mostly young to middle age trees so it will continue to get better over time.
3) Nice Discatchers used on this course. I love the visibility of the yellow band and it makes the baskets pop and look really nice.
4) I got the opportunity to throw a couple rollers on this course too. In fact I threw an entire round throwing a roller as my drive while I also played a regular round throwing in the air. I shot only 1 throw worse on the roller drive round and enjoyed comparing my scores just for the heck of it.
5) Distance variation is pretty good for this 9 hole course. There are some 100's, 200'3 and a bunch of 300's. This course will challenge you with distance and then you have to throw distance amongst the trees too. Overall this is a nice mix of distance, discs needed, and shots thrown.
6) There is a 4x4 with a wooden top that shows a general line map of the hole, par, and distance. All the holes are very visible so this is adequate in terms of signage.
7) The flow is intuitive and is easy enough o figure out where you are going once you find #1.
8) This course is beginner friendly because none of the obstacles are too difficult and recovery shots should always be available.

Cons:

1) There are trees on some of the holes but there are too many holes that are boring and simply wide open. Plant some more young trees on these other holes to help provide a more challenging shot and also liven up the visual of the course.
2) The course is pretty flat . . . while it does go downhill through the round and back up at the end, none of the holes have significant enough of an elevation change to really be worth mentioning.
3) There is one dangerous spot that I could see. A bad skip behind #5 will go all the way to #6 tee which is past and to the left of the basket. Other than that, most of the throws will be safe to stay near the holes intended fairway.
4) There just isn't enough to draw most players to this course . . . it will draw someone who is in the area, beginners, and course baggers such as myself. The last thing you want is us course baggers on your course! 
5) There are options on every hole . . . you can throw whatever you feel most comfortable as opposed to be forced to throw a specific shot. I like when it goes both ways that some holes have options and others mandate a specific line.

Other Thoughts:

All in all this is just another small town course in a small town park that is good for beginners but won't draw a lot of better players to it. It serves a purpose for the local town of Loyal and that is all that matters. My opinion of the course doesn't even matter because it was not designed with people like me in mind. I do think they could make it better with a few more well-placed trees to help define greens or fairways.

At least its a course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 24, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

It has disccatchers which are my least favorite out of non homemade baskets...sometimes. But there are baskets as opposed to the tone poles they had at first. Nice wood tee signs with par, hole # and distance just like so many courses in central WI. Its up all year though with the winters in loyal its not really playable in winter due to the weather. The wind offers the only challenge here with the minimal trees n the course, but can really factor in as its completely flat and open farmland everywhere around here.

Cons:

I hate Disccatchers so thats one for me. No water, elevation, or even trees to contend with. Wind is the only challenge here. Just bland but i work about 5 minutes away so its a good place to work on things with nothing else really close. Just a bland boring course in a really small town.

Other Thoughts:

Not worth the trip at all unless you happen to be in the area and i doubt you would ever be here. it's nice for the town, but if you have played even a few courses you'd be dissappointed in this one. pretty, pretty weak.

Only the young? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 30, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is wheelchair accessible. It has a beautifully maintained turf, and is perfectly flat. It is mostly open with scattered young trees. Not many discs will get lost here! Tee signs showing distance and par are at each tee. The flow is intuitive and easy to follow. It could be a real good introductory course with good signage.

Cons:

This is an uninteresting course! It is flat and has zero elevation change. The trees are young and rather small.
The park facilities close for the winter.
The tee signs do little to show direction of play or obstacles on the hole. The assigned pars are "old school" and only appropriate for novice/recreational players, if at all. At a green level I would estimate scoring averages of 2.5 to 3.5. Advanced players should get dueces on more than half the holes.
The tees are marked only by the sign post - no tee pads or lines.
The tee for hole #6 is placed unsafely directly behind the goal for hole #5.

Other Thoughts:

As a young park with young trees, it will improve as it matures. Although the park road was closed for the winter, I parked at the barrier and played beginning with hole #9. Experienced players will find it easy to play around, but have little incentive to go there to play. Newbies who this course will benefit the most will not find much help on how to play in the first place.
