Small Town Park Course

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 7, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Baskets OK
-Generous Pars
-Some trees and a small creek to work around/over

Cons:

-Grass tees
-Post with a number for a tee sign
-Walking path in play on all holes but #9
-Swings and a slide along the left on #1
-Shelter in play on #3, tight tunnel to throw through
-RC track right and ball field left on #9

Other Thoughts:

Memorial Park is home to a reasonable DGC on the NW corner of Lowden, IA. A decent size park with multiple playground areas, a walking trail, shelters, an RC Car track, and a nice baseball field. The course winds through the western half of the park beginning just over the first pedestrian bridge. Play here was fine with trees to work around and you are over the small creek at least 3 times. There are enough bridges to not make you walk way out of your way, although you could jump the stream as well. Even with the multiple directions the course winds, the walking path is in play for all but the last hole. If there are many activities going on here on a weekend, you may be out of luck. Some of the playground equipment comes into play on #1. There is a shelter in the middle of the #3 fairway. #4 ends just past the bathroom building. #9 has the RC car track to the right and the ballfield to the left. Even on a quiet Friday afternoon, I had to hold up a few times to keep from doinking pedestrians. Still, I would play regularly, if this was the course nearby. Lowden is at least along US30 (The Lincoln Highway), so it's not a long jaunt off the beaten path. An OK course, might play again here if driving through the area.

Small town, big course. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 17, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

New course set in a small Iowa town. Park is easy to get to with plentiful parking. Hole one is between the bridges. Posts signify the teepads and the navigation is fairly straightforeward without much problems. The baskets are in great shape. A small creek runs throughout the course and comes into play on a couple of holes. Where this course shines is the layout. Long and short,left/right and straight holes. Basket placement is perfect, especially on holes 2 and 6, my favorites! Hole one will be tougher once the row of trees lining the fairway grow some more. Hole 3 allows you to throw long, while the other holes require a little more skill.

Cons:

Multi use park which could pose some other park user conflict when throwing. Map torn off at hole one, but super easy to figure it out.

Other Thoughts:

Where did this course come from? For a tiny town of roughly 800 people to have this good of a course was very surprising to me! Was not expecting this at all. Don't let my 3 disc rating fool you here, this is a really well designed, thoughout out and generally enjoyable course to play, for both beginner and pro alike.
