New look 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 13, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very good course, lots of different shots. You must have an accurate game to score well here! A big arm helps too. All mandos are gone now and there are some new looks as some holes have changed. The wind is out here so be careful. Like the rope OB and island shots. 3 of the 4 mandos are gone so it opens shot selection up alot.

Cons:

Private so you just cant go out there. Usually windy!

Other Thoughts:

Shane has done alot of work out here and if you get an invite or chance to play the tourney, jump on it!! Keep an eye out for the monthly minis.

Great course, good tournament. 2+ years drive by

Pros:

This is a great course with a lot of shot variety on a spacious piece of land. I played here in the Dunn Memorial Java Classic and really enjoyed the course. There is a great hole here where you shoot across about 300 feet of water to get to the basket. There is no other feasible way to get to the basket unless you want to take 6 strokes or more to go around. That is my kind of hole! There is also an island hole that is surrounded by hay bales. If you don't land on the island then you have to shoot 3 from the drop zone 50 feet from the basket...also a fun hole. The level of difficulty in tournament play will challenge the best of players...especially with any mentionable amount of wind. This course is mostly wide open but there are a few holes tucked back into a wooded area.

Cons:

The wind is a MAJOR factor on this course. When I played it was very windy and that added a lot of challenge to the round. It is a temp course, which means that the baskets are LOW quality and there aren't any concrete tee pads or permanent signs. A couple of the holes are set up to cross front and back yards of neighboring houses, which was a little bit cheesy. They were, however, pretty difficult holes as they were set up.

Other Thoughts:

This is a private course and only open for occasional mini's and tournaments. I believe that there are at least two major events here each year. In tournament play, the fairways are carved out by flags that run down the sides of them. If you don't stay within the designated fairway you are punished by an OB stroke penalty. That also makes an otherwise easy course much more difficult. I don't think that an inexperienced player would enjoy that aspect of the course much, but the more advanced player will appreciate the added level of difficulty. You definitely need to be able to throw long here to score well, but if you can't throw long with precision, then you are in trouble.

Best Course you may never play 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 30, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a private course on a great piece of property. Dunn Memorial Java Classic is held every year and should not be missed by anyone. Course has much character for being so young.

Cons:

Maybe a drive for some, but not for me.
