In my Top 5! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 10, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Absolutely beautiful piece of property. Redwoods, meadows, creek, even the old rusted cars add to the beauty of the place.
- The holes are mostly designed with one route in mind. Usually long and straight will keep you out of trouble, but there are forced sidearms, hyzers, thumbers, putter shots, etc... every throw but rollers (grass is too thick) is required off the tee-pad at some point.
- There is a lot of punishment for bad shots (a lot of people think the disc eating brush is a bad thing... but I enjoy the risk reward aspect to going for big shots). It forces you to Play Golf!
- Almost everything about this corse is a PRO.

Cons:

- YOU NEED A GUIDE!!! I was guided through the first time and was easily able to find my way around the next day. Without a guide you have no chance. Also, you could get lost on this property after dark... so if you're playing a late afternoon round be sure to give yourself enough time to make it out (it takes 3 hours to play). I could see people getting lost out there and having to spend the night (it's a big course).
- From some of the tee-pads you're looking directly at a tone-pole for a different hole, another reason why you need a guide.
- The disc eating brush is dangerous. There is poision oak everywhere, stinging nettles, and thick thick blackberry bushes.
- The tee-pads can be muddy, and on a course where placement is key there is little room for slipage on the tee-pad. Even the tiniest slip will put your relese point in the wrong direction and have you climbing through the brush.
- NO DOGS! not a con for me, but if you have a dog its a con for you and your dog.

My only real con:
- The finishing hole is a bit of a let down. After playing a course of this calibur, you expect something more than a simple 250' straight away shot. And, only 26 holes??? There could easily be a 27th... hopefully an epic 27th hole will be designed to end this course properly.

Other Thoughts:

- This course is Epic! Outstanding! Awesomely Awesome! Sick! Etc...! As soon as you walk up to the first tee-pad, you know you're on a special course. Probably the best opening hole I have ever seen.
- This course immediately jumped into my top 5. It is by far the best course in the HSU area and possibly Humboldt (I haven't played Aamond Ranch (sp?) or Birds of Paridise though).
- If Area 74 had baskets, cement tee-pads, and few more improvements, it could rival DeLaveaga and Stafford for tops in CA. Ok... a bit of an overstatement; but still, it's that good!
- Drop a donation in the box at hole 5. And, pack out all your trash. That way this course can remain available for the public to play.
- I've been high ever since I walked off the course for the first time. Much love to Doug and Par Infiniti for doing such a great job.
My Score -3 (with an ace)

gorgeous, rural, private 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 6, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Mix of hole distances
-Mix between wide open bombs through beautiful meadows and precision drives through heavily wooded forest
-Lack of course map helps keep this course private and classy, it is a "chill zone"
-the rusted out cars make this course feel very rustic, like Deliverance status!

Cons:

-lots of opportunities to lose discs in underbrush and brambles
-some poison oak
-tee pads can be muddy

Other Thoughts:

-Don't forget to donate a few bucks in the cash box around hole 5 or 6?

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 23, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-good length. longest holes in Humboldt along with some of the tightest fairways.
-perfect mixture of trees and open windows (i like tightly wooded courses which this was)
-26 holes, so it keeps going and going.
-the person owning this property is gracious enough to make an awesome course usable by the public and mows the fairways.
-perfect property for a course, lots of land used for the course, and never crowded.
-quiet forest setting. just a nice relaxing place to be.

Cons:

-baaaad disc eating brush. worst i've seen. thick head high blackberry bushes and poison oak, as well as some stinging nettle. great blackberries though. hope they stay.
-no signage, but you have to be brought by someone who knows it anyway (private-ish course)

Other Thoughts:

-very raw course in that the tee boxes are all dirt marked with flags in the ground, all tone poles, and the brush isn't trampled hardly at all.
-long, straight, accurate shots are at a premium here.
-mostly flat with small elevation changes on some holes.
-donation box by tee for 5. i'll never be able to pass it up without making a contribution and many of you will too.
-playing here makes me dream of getting that perfect piece of property and making my dream course. inspiring.
-i had rated this a 4, but just got back from 5 rounds over three days. Lots of the brutal underbrush has been removed close to the holes. This course now gets a 4.5 due to the perfect hole progression, unbeatable setting and challenge.
-This isn't so much a leisure course in that it is long (both holes and some hikes between holes) and tight. even accurate players will have to crawl into the underbrush a couple times. damn, my legs are cut up now that i notice.

-Much respect to Doug for making, maintaining and sharing this course.

Great private course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 16, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Private course so there are very few people there
-Good variety of distance on holes, some are short and aceable, some are long and will realy test your arm
-Variety of shots, Lefts, Rights, Ups and Downs, every hole feels very diffrent from every other one.
-First 2 holes are great downhill shots that are realy fun.
-Beutifull scienery, Redwoods mix nicely with mowed fields (owner mows all the fairways himself on his own funds, so make sure to throw a few bucks into the donation box)
-Tightly wooded holes and wide open throws.
-Lefty / Righty fair

Cons:

-MUST KNOW SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THE COURSE TO PLAY IT
-Dirt teepads
-Tonepoles instead of baskets (not a con in my opinion, but it could be in others)
-No signs
-Brush on some holes is prety bad and can eat your discs if your not carefull. Though this has been getting better.
-Poison oak on some holes

Other Thoughts:

MUST HAVE A GUIDE TO PLAY HERE!
NO DOGS!
This is a private course and the owner does not like haveing people wondering around in his yard not knowing where to go, that's why it wasn't listed on sites for a while. The owner has put alot of work into this course over the years, he recently took out some more trees to help make it a little more fair on some holes. The owner mows all the farways he can by himself on his own dollars, so throw a buck or two into the donation box if you play out here.

Pros:

Great views and scenery. Great distance on holes and pin placements. Not used by public much if at all. Nice up shot difficulty and obstacles. No matter what you hoot you will always come back for more. Just a fun course, very nice flow.

Cons:

No baskets, only Totem poles. Lots of brush for lost discs and obstacles. Very unforgiving to chunder shots. Poison oaks and blackberry bushes thrive.

Other Thoughts:

Fun course and remember lots of golf to be played here, 26 holes!
