Pros:

One of the nicest host I've ever had. Robert was more than accommodating. I even tried to donate money and buy a water and he wouldn't let us. Never have I been treated better on a course. I even got to get beat in some ping pong while there the man can play. The course itself plays on his land, and has great elevation change as well as good baskets. Nothing to far to throw but accuracy is key on most the holes as there's some tricky out of bounds and lines to pin. All kinds of wildlife on course from baby birds, to his dogs that do very well following you on course. Frogs/foxes/geese and even the occasional snapping turtle. Some good chances at aces but also some holes that can really test your game. Hole 5/11/12/13 can all present a major challenge and make you cough up your bogey free round.

Cons:

Only 13 holes and some of the holes use the same basket. The owner does a great job going over the layout with you so there shouldn't be much confusion. No real wide open bomb holes.
Would love to see this as a 18 hole course there's talk of expanding however good job with the land he has.
The holes could use up to date tee signs as many our incorrect for current layout
The hillside holes can cause some nasty rollouts.
On a busy day might have to watch for errant throws like during a league round

Other Thoughts:

All in all a wonderful place the owner has some great history there and his shop is incredible. It's hard for me to rank this course as it's a private land novelty style course but the history their is awesome. If you get the chance play it make sure to call you will feel right at home.

"Welcome to God's Country"-Robert Downs 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 4, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

•Very friendly owner who made the course as a purely labor of love
•Cool clubhouse with water and porta potty
•Lots of different types of shots needed
•Great views along grove and beside the lake
•Mach V baskets on all the holes

Cons:

•Stairs down to 9a are iffy so tread carefully
•If you haven't played before you will need a guide since some tees are barely visable or not in use anymore (but Robert is more than happy to give you a tour so this is barely a con)

Other Thoughts:

This course is on Robert Downs private property and he was very welcoming when we came out to play. I got an ace on hole one and he came out to personally congratulate me and gave me a commemorative mini. I tried to give him some cash for course upkeep and he refused to take it. He apologized for the grass being long but I've seen it longer at certain p2p courses.

For it being a homemade course it has a surprising amount of diversity of shots and a couple holes that allow you to give the discs a good rip, also having legit Mach V baskets is a huge plus. The first two holes are pretty plain and short but as you get further away from the house and into the grove the holes become a lot more interesting.

Character is Everything 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 26, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Bob is just an all around great guy. My son and I called the number, and he answered right away and helped us get there. Then he walked the whole course with my 9-year old son and I to show us every hole and how it plays.

He handed us a score card located in the barn (very clean, doubles as a club-house and looks as if they have ho-downs in there on occasion, as there are tables, chairs and music stands), and when I asked if we should pay, if laughed and said not at all.

He played behind us, and helped us out along the way. He was an all-around gentleman.

The course is extremely well maintained, and has a ton of character. The tight corridors made by the wind break trees make it very challenging, but not overly grueling. Bob has a story for every hole, and it's was so interesting to hear how he developed the course, and even what his future plans are.

Cons:

There isn't a lot of shade, and the day we played it was pretty hot. the first three holes are pretty short and not very challenging--but Bob will tell you to get your birdies on these holes because the others present interesting challenges that can kill your score. He was right!

Other Thoughts:

I've already said it, but Bob is really welcoming--I think my son and I are going to join the Monday night league next season.

Course Review 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is a great family friendly course. The holes are surrounded by farm land and animals. The owners are very welcoming and are glad to help you out if its your first time. In addition, Bob's rock path turned out real nice. (you will see when you get there what i mean)

Cons:

Althought this course is one of my favorites its a long drive from St. Paul (30 min). If you are in the area this is a good place to hit up. However if your looking for a day of disc golf there are a number of courses you pass on your way down there you can hit up.

Other Thoughts:

The farm animals are cool and the cats are real friendly.

Short Private Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 20, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is privately owned by one of the nicest guys I have ever met. I just called him up one day and he told me to come out and when I did, he played a round with me.

Course has 10 pretty short holes. I would say the average hole is under 200ft. Although it plays short, it demands about every different throw you got. Its mostly open on 8 of the holes, but the last two holes along the lake are heavily wooded. The mach 5 baskets are in excelent condition and the course is well groomed. He even has a sweet clubhouse set up in a old barn. You can borrow discs and find a scorecard there.

Cons:

No chance at long drives. The tee boxes are a mix of gravel and grass. Pins are in really tight areas, so not a lot of room for putting on about half of the holes. Its kind of out in the middle of nowhere, which I kind of like but some people may not.

Other Thoughts:

Call Robert Downs! He will play a round with you!
