The Hills of Coon Rapids 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 16, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Baskets OK (9 seems a sturdy homemade variety)
-Elevation and trees give some interest
-In its own part of the park
-Lovely views from on top of the hill

Cons:

-Natural Tees
-Very basic signage, missing 4 of the 9
-Very Hilly with a few blind throws (added a map)
-Tough to follow on first run (added a map)

Other Thoughts:

Coon Rapids DGC plays in the NW corner of the City Sport Complex on the NW corner of Coon Rapids, IA. A rather short city park course (only one hole tops 300') the elevation is the real story of the course. A decent use of the space, but makes for several blind shots over a slight ridge, I would have like to have had the map that I have now added. The #7 basket can be mistaken for #2, #5 is just over the sight line, #7 is also just out of the sight line. #9 is tucked behind a couple of trees to wrap things up. The lines are mostly open, but there are some trees to work around, keep under, or keep out of. For this novice, the elevation was a bit much, but the views from up top were lovely. A "reasonable" course for a small town park course. Fix and upgrade the signs and add concrete pads and this might get a full disc upgrade. Wouldn't hurt to add a bench or trashcan either. An OK place to learn the game, if you have the constitution for it. I would think about playing again, if in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

great small town course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 10, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great elevation changes
Good basket locations
Even if you shank it you can still recover

As a newer player I felt very comfortable on this course. We only got to play through once but it wasn't that hard to figure out. You do have to run up to the baskets from time to time to make sure it's the right one, but it's pretty straight forward.

Cons:

baskets could use clearer markings, paint the sign post and the basket post the same color or something.

extend a couple of the holes. the course felt short, most tee pads were between 215 and 300 feet. But the elevation makes up for this a little

Other Thoughts:

Overall I thought it was a fun course. I'll definitely hit it up in the future if I'm in the area. I don't think it took much over an hour to complete.

2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 17, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Decent Variety of shots. A variety of trees and reasonable elevation challenged my shot selection well enough.

Well maintained. At least the area surrounding and including the course was clean, mowed, and overall looked nice.

Amenities. A swimming pool with restrooms, picnic shelter and ample parking on site.

Cons:

Navigation. Each tee sign seemed to be facing a different direction, though there was a vague description of the hole on the map, I had a difficult time figuring out which basket related to each tee without inspecting the baskets for numbers first (most of the baskets had numbers).

Tees. The tee signs all existed, but most of them were leaning at an angle and facing a strange direction (resulting in difficult navigation), not much maintenance is directed at the course I don't think (the baskets also show wear).

Short. This park could offer enough room for at least one longer hole, no such luck.

Other Thoughts:

An Ok place to practice, I wouldn't go out of the way for it, but if this is the only place to cure your DG itch, it's worth a stop. Hole 9 I believe has some sort of CatCHING basket.
