Good City Park Course drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 5, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Good sign with map in new concrete-- added about 2020.

Good pads, look new-- probably same time as Map was posted.

Baskets solid.

Lawn well kept.

Cons:

Playground in the middle of #5. What fool though tthis was a good idea? With children present, I'd recommend skipping the pad and making first throw from somewhere that the children are 100% safe. Course is worthy a 3.0 score if not for this foolishness.

Other Thoughts:

No real challenge here for skilled players, but this is a likely a plus for casual players. Only regular obstacles are trees, and the aforementioned playground.

#6 is short and quite downhill-- even weak players have a chance to ace this one.

You could possibly lose a disc into the river with a *really* errant throw on #6 or #7.

Considering options in the area, this is a fine course.

Needs some help! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 12, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Passable interest with some elevation and some trees.
-Layout is acceptable (with the exception of #5, see below)
-Baskets are OK (Rusty chains, but OK)
-Water slightly in play on #6 and #7

Cons:

-Tees are no more than a short post with a hole #. No longer any mulch.
-Tee post for #1 missing
-Hole #5 plays right through a playground area, you can try to shape your shot, but...
-Along the #7 fairway seems to be a popular fishing spot.
-No benches, one trash dumpster near #1 tee

Other Thoughts:

Foster Park DGC is located along the Iowa River in the western part of Iowa Falls, IA. A basic park 9-hole course, this looks like it could be something more. The chains are rusty, no real tee pads or tee signage. Some trees and a bit of elevation add to the interest along with a couple of holes (Shooting toward #6 and along the right side of #7) playing near the river. Hole #5 could be scary if there are children playing in the playground as the line plays diagonally right through. Refreshed baskets (or at least chains), concrete tee pads, some decent signage, and a re-design on #5 would really add to rating here. It is a "what could be" type of course with some help. Would probably not play here again unless I hear of changes.

Better than Nothing 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 29, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- High quality, newer baskets
- Course does loop back to the start. However finding the basket for hole 5 may be tricky for a player new to the course.
- Excellent maintenance as this is a public park.
- Decent parking area by hole 1.
- Trash bin by the parking area.
- Restrooms are located right by hole 1.
- River shot is scenic, however I have lost a disc in there due to an unfortunate tree kick.

Cons:

- You have to throw directly next to/over a playground area on hole 5. This of course is not ideal but luckily there usually aren't kids there when I have played.
- Tee Pads: Mulch, but not well maintained. May as well be grass.
- Some holes are very short (1 and 6)
- Not much elevation change, other than the very short hole 6.

Other Thoughts:

The course was desperately needed as is the only one in the nearby area. However, its not worth going out of your way for.

Some gorgeous views, mostly fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 25, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Quick 9 holes, well maintained, impossible to lose a disc (aside from a few river shots)

Cons:

One hole blatantly tees off with the main playground right in the middle, luckily every time I've played there hasn't been anybody on the playground because for a good drive on this hole you literally need to send your drive full speed right at the playground and hope you are sailing over it but with low tree branches you have a small window of delivery, I'm sure lots of discs end up in the river, luckily my drive breaks away from the river but probably a problem for some

Other Thoughts:

Gorgeous views when down by the river holes, I was compelled to snap some pictures with my phone, fun course, one night we were playing group best shot and kept tying, we played a few entire rounds in the dark without flashlights or glow discs or anything trying to break the tie, we finally had to settle on closest shot when we were starting our 3rd tie breaker round, even this went to hole 2, some of the most fun I've ever had discing, although it had nothing to do with the course itself

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 8, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Good mix of short and mid length holes
Obstacles create a challenge on a few holes
Good chances for an ace on #1 and #6
Beautifully kept park
Course is just plain fun

Cons:

No signs or markings indicating distance, par, or pin position
Tee boxes can be difficult to find in the trees (woodchips and tree branches co-mingling)
People can be a huge obstacle on warm days

Other Thoughts:

Be careful on hole #7; the river has taken two of my discs so far.
This course is well layed out apart from the space constraints of Foster park and is a relaxing time. My only complaint is the marking of the holes.

not bad 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 28, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Lots of trees, present a challenge on almost every hole and provide shade on a hot day. The sun doesn't reach the ground in most of the park.
-Park is nice, clean, scenic with mature trees, flowers and views of the river. A gardening club does landscaping.
-Some good ace runs and birdie attempts.
-A few longer and tree filled holes, not all short.
-A good place to get a quick, relaxing 9 in.
-Very nice baskets that have numbers on the posts.
-Doesn't seem too busy.

Cons:

-The playground and shelter aren't in the way but are too close for comfort if there's people on them.
-Some of the holes are really short, 1 and 6 come to mind.
-Tees are woodchip and might as well be grass, they are somewhat uneven.
-Tees are also unmarked.
-The course flow isn't the greatest, you can find your way around but may take some extra walking.
-Could maybe lose your disc in the river on hole 7

Other Thoughts:

Worth a stop if you're in the area but not really a course to go out of your way for.
