Decent City-Park Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 28, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

*Beginner friendly
*Concrete pads
*Updated baskets
*Open lines
*Ace runs on 6 & 8
*A lot of nearby space for field work
*Recently planted trees will provide some decent line-shaping challenges in a few years

Cons:

*Can be brutal when it's windy
*Very little shade in the summer months
*Big concrete slab on hole 1 can mess up a disc if you have a bad throw
*Not very challenging for advanced players
*Course design is on the "meh" side of things

Other Thoughts:

This is a quiet park most of the time. No worries about people getting in the way of shots. I would appreciate a more challenging layout and maybe having the city take out the unused volleyball court and concrete slab next to it. I use this course for my fieldwork since there is a soccer field and football field adjacent to it (also the baseball field has a batting net if you don't want to have to pick up discs.

Good Practice Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 7, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great for practicing those nice straight level throws (for pros) and a great course for beginners to learn the basics. Plenty of birdie shots and a possible ace or 2. Mostly open with trees spread out (nothing dense). Absolutely no one was there the whole time I played the course... so no pedestrian traffic or disc golfer congestion! Baskets seem to be in good condition and the grass seems to be mowed often enough.

Cons:

When I was there, construction was going on nearby, which I'm sure didn't add to the park's appeal (tall weeds growing out of the sand volleyball area). Not challenging enough for "pros" and no real variety. Receded, thin dirt tees (I just tee'd off right beside them).

Other Thoughts:

This is a good alternative to Prentis Park, which is a couple of blocks away... especially if it's super crowded... this park is totally empty - No Waiting! I think it makes a good practice course, but don't expect any obstacle challenge here.

Typical southern SD 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 15, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Decent Length, only one really short hole. Hole 3 is probably ~500 feet.
-Tees are marked at least
-Disc Catcher baskets are in good shape
-Course is very open and not busy with non disc golfers, in this way it is much better than Prentis Park.
-A few ace runs and a many 2 chances.
-Good parking lot
-Score cards in mailbox near parking lot, were out as of 8/15.

Cons:

-Tees are dirt and rutted, will be muddy in spring and after rains.
-Signs on posts are gone or damaged
-Not quite enough trees to provide a lot of challenge

Other Thoughts:

This course and Prentis Park are about the same quality. These courses aren't bad but simply aren't very challenging or spectacular. Fantle Memorial Park in Yankton about 20 miles down the road is better but still not great. This area simply doesn't have a lot to offer as far as disc golf goes.

Ho-Humm 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 28, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

This multi-use park has a section of the park that is used for the disc golf course alone. That is kind of a nice way to do this. There are some posts to mark the holes with and there is a bathroom on site with trashcans. The hole distance variety really didn't seem that bad even though 6 of the holes are between 250 and 350 feet. The park was not that dirty and looked like it gets mowed frequently.

Cons:

The dirt tee areas are starting to rut, but there is still a place to throw. Some of the tee posts are missing their plates telling you which tee you are at. This place is very flat and has little to almost no obstacles. The trees that are here are not really used as they could have. Most of the shots are just straight throws.

Other Thoughts:

The Fun Factor here was not working. I actually just wanted to get this round over with. It just didn't have anything exciting to offer. I mean it is a place to play without being bothered like their other course here. I just think the design could have used the trees more to force you into throwing various types of shots.
