Falling further from grace. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 4, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- My biggest pro for Tushka Run is hole #3. Beautiful hole that throws over a creek with large boulders and a waterfall. The water was quite high last time I played which made it extra stunning. I think this can also be dry though at times unfortunately. If you are playing one of the other 2 courses in the park, it might be worth at least checking this hole out.
- There are a few good/important next tee signs... until there isn't (see cons).
- The lake could be utilized more often on this course, but there are a couple good water holes.
- There are a decent amount of benches, although their days might be numbered on some of them.
- Rare to have large rocks on course in this part of the country, but this course utilizes them nicely for beauty and challenge.

Cons:

- Single chain baskets that are old and sad. One basket was all but demolished by a fallen tree and appears it has been that way for a while.
- Signage existed sometimes with a simple number and distance on very worn out 4x4s. On many holes, the sign was just laying on the ground or looked like it had been tossed from the tee box.
- I've dealt with worse ease of navigation, but this course was still a challenge. Tip: 8 tee is on the other side of the building from 7's dilapidated basket. This was the biggest search that could have been solved with a sign.
- Mostly old carpet tees that are in very rough shape.
- It seems they have stopped grooming this course. Multiple holes had large trees down that looked like they had been down for quite some time due to the appearance of the roots. This ruined the shot lines of a few holes.

Other Thoughts:

- Most of the course zig zags up and down this hill side. It can be challenging with the elevation, but also very repetitive. I wouldn't think that it would be enjoyed very much by a beginner for that reason. Chickasaw is probably the better beginner course in the park and Warrior Ridge is definitely the best for more advanced players.
- I remember this course being so much better 6 or so years ago. Very disappointing that it has fallen to this level. I still give it 2 stars for its potential with a lot of revitalizing. Tish is still a cool place to go, camp, and play 3 18 hole courses, but I would say this is the least exciting of the bunch at this point.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 24, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Lots of woody/rocky holes, with mild elevation changes through the middle stepping up to steep shots up and down a hill on the back end.

A few holes have short/long tees.

Cons:

Short holes on short holes on short holes, with only a few medium lengths. Even the dead open shots aren't long. While there are plenty of wooded shots, it doesn't feel technical or tight enough to make up for the missing distance. Also, after the first six, it gets really repetitive. 7-11 are just the same basic lines up and down the same hillside. 12-16 are on a steeper hillside but likewise just feel like going back and forth between the same two holes.

All that water right there, and there are two half-hearted water shots only. Wasted opportunity.

Single chain baskets. Sure, they catch (something), but it's a serious change for someone not used to playing on equipment of a certain age.

Signage is a joke. Tee signs show distance only, and they rotate, so they aren't necessarily even going to point you in the general direction of the basket, and you are just on your own as far as finding the next tee.

Other Thoughts:

Several tees were very slick. Uncertain as to the permanence of this condition, so not listed in cons for now.

Tee 8 is on the far side of the building from basket 7. Don't spend forty years wandering the desert looking for it like I did.

Newest of 3 courses 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 30, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Along with Chickasaw and Warrior Ridge, Tishomingo SP provides 56 holes of disc golf in one park.

This is the newest of the 3 courses the park has to offer. It is practically across the road from Warrior Ridge.

This first third of this course begins around the back of the lake, which does come in to play on a couple of holes (one hole plays across a corner of it), but it makes for an interesting and scenic beginning to the round. The lake can be seen from almost every hole adding to the appeal of this course. The middle third play through moderately wooded areas, with some elevation. The final third plays up and down a steep hill. This provides an overall good variety, but it does lack a rotation of different hole styles.

The tee signs are wooded posts with hole # and distance (sufficient, but not as nice as the color map tee signs the other 2 courses have.)

Cons:

Because it is new it needs some time to season and mature. Right now navigation is tricky. Mainly because the basket numbers are incorrect. It seems they got 18 old baskets from somewhere else, but they either have no number or the wrong number, some even in the 20's!

Tees are carpet or natural, which is the norm for the park.

The last 6 holes are just up, down, up, down, up, down a steep wooded hill- you will end up saying to yourself "this hole again?" as you finish your round. This is a course that starts out pretty strong but ends weak.

Other Thoughts:

Note- Tee #1 is a parking spot marked with orange cones and Basket #1 is down the hill to the right, not the basket you see on the levee straight in front.

I stayed in a cabin on site and played disc golf all day. What more could you ask for?

$3 a day to enter the park, but you can play both courses on site as many times as you want.

I would rate this course 2nd out of the 3 in this park. However, this course has a lot of potential and could challenge to be my #1 of 3 over time. None of the 3 are top 10 courses, but when you consider there are 3 courses in one park, Tishomingo makes for a nice disc golf destination.

The Trifecta 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 17, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a fun and challenging course carved out of a beautiful piece of property. Elevation plays a huge role on this course. Holes range from 180' to 290'. Hidden baskets make a few holes more challenging. A local boy scout troop (from Tupelo I believe) donated some great tee signs and benches.

Cons:

Teepads are gravel with carpet over them. Hole 2's tee can be a little muddy. If it is wet climbing down some fairways is more challenging than throwing down them! There is also a $3 entry fee into the park.

Other Thoughts:

This is the third and most challenging course in Tishomingo State Park. The park office carries Innova, Discraft, and DGA discs. Poor teeshots can lead to some interesting upshots. Am players should rack up birdies on the front nine because they are few and far between on the back nine. Anyone looking for a great place to spend the weekend this is it (the park rents cabins).

Tushka Run adds element to Tishomingo State Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 16, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Tushka Run adds a different element to Tishomingo State Park. It's elevation changes along with tricky course design give Tishomingo State Park it toughest course. Well placed shots will be rewarded as poorly placed shots will not. The course is not entirely difficult as it has plenty of birdie opportunities spread along the foothills of the mountians. The back 9 baskets are set amoung some beautiful scenery rolling over hills and perched amoung huge rocks. The course plays fairly quick. Paths from baskets to tee pads seem to be cut in a manner where players will not walk out paths for unrewarding shots at the previously stated basket.

Cons:

The course is brand new. It still needs tons of work. The last 6 holes have steep elevation changes and are hard to navigate during inclimate weather. Water stand on the #2 Tee box which causes a muddy experience. There is a huge lake shot on hole #6 I believe. It is not really a con. I just wanted to let the players know that there is water in play.

Other Thoughts:

Tushka Run is a good course that will get better with time. Once the course gets walked out I expect it to become one of the best in the park.
