Really Scenic Camp Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 18, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

A nice layout for its intended camp patrons (read casual to recreational player), this nine hole course plays across and around a couple of creekbeds below the camp lodge, and out front in the field as you enter the camp. Holes range from the 150's to 340's in length, and use a few gaps and trees to create flight lines and interesting greens. Holes 3 and 8 play right on the creek, so there's a little risk/reward to enjoy. Players at the Intermediate level and above will be shooting for deuces on most holes (if, like me, you enjoy that sort of thing).

As you drive in on a sunny day, this remote camp has some real beauty and quiet to enjoy. It's nice that they are welcoming of the disc golfers who venture out here to the course (especially those who are respectful of the fact that this is a seasonal course reserved for camp patrons during the warmer months). Pretty meadows and a gorgeous creek with a little covered bridge are the focal points here, but there are nine numbered 18-chain DGA baskets to enjoy, as well.

Cons:

Following the current directions (see below), there is a crossing fairway on 2 & 9, and the latter plays dangerously close to the basketball court and the tetherball pole. Hole 5 obviously is intended as a mando right of the tree, and away from the paddock fence. The tee area for hole 4 is in the line of flight for hole 7.

There are no tee posts to make navigation simple for first timers, and playing to the sandbar on the other side of the creek on hole 3 creates an awkward walk-around.

They do state that there's a very small fee to play, but they need to add an 'honor box' if no one is in the park office by hole one.

Other Thoughts:

I was able to speak with a couple of the nice folks at the camp during my visit, and need to mention that they've 'redesigned' the location of most of the tees since the layout I played (and added a map here). There are orange painted boards at ground level, but I only spotted the first one, so I used the printed directions available at the camp map kiosk by the office.

The drive in or out from either the north or west, along the twisty two lane, ridge-topping roads is really beautiful. Take your time. Come on a sunny day when leaves are minimal, and let the passengers in your car take some pictures. Conversely, I might not try that drive during any icy stretches in the winter, unless my life depended on it!

Beautiful Setting 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 24, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a beautiful course that uses the lay of the beautiful land well. A creek is comes into to play on 5 of the 9 holes. This is a great place to come and learn how to play the game because for the most part none of the holes are incredibly difficult. This is where myself and 4 or 5 friends played for the first time and now we love to play as much as possible. In the fall the trees are beuatiful and you may see some animals and campers. The Camp also has a board that usually has a sheet that gives directions from basket to the next tee pad.

Cons:

Since the main function of this place is for church retreats, improving and upkeep of the course is not always a top priority. I encountered some difficulty finding the blue wooden blocks on the ground that designated the tees due to leaves on the ground. Also some tree branches, while they increase the difficulty, seem to be in some bad spots. Lastly, Hole #3 is difficult to cross the creek, and sometimes an alternate route up stream has to be found.

Other Thoughts:

For sentimental reasons, I love to play this course. This is a fun course for those new to the game, and may not be as enjoyable for players of a high level. Since there are not many other courses in the area, it is nice to have a place to play.
