Nicely worked in a busy park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 23, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Baskets OK
-Signage OK (DGA Peel 'n Stick)
-Good vary of distance
-#2, #3, #4 guarded by trees
-Stays away from most activities
-Well kept park

Cons:

-Natural tees
-Flat
-Some play around roads, walking path, volleyball court
-#1 plays along the fence for the pool

Other Thoughts:

Elkader City Park DGC plays in a large multi-use park on the SE corner of Elkader, IA. A typical park course that plays around part of a large baseball field that takes quite a bit of the space, but you stay away from it. There is a little interaction with the pool from the first tee. Make sure you realize the #1 basket is just past the NE corner of the pool fence, otherwise you'll throw at #3 (like we did, but started over, so stay left). We also mistook the #7 basket for #6, #6 is in between the road and the path, slightly left in the trees. Watch out for the city sign on #8 as I hit it pretty solidly (basket is just behind it). Mostly open lines with trees guarding baskets #2, #3, #4 and #6. #3 and #9 play close to the sand volleyball court. The sign is your obstacle on #8. Road is OB and in play on #1, #3, #4, #5 and #6. It and the walking path were pretty quiet, so probably not a worry there. Highway is OB on #8, but you have to be pretty left to have that in play. Still an enjoyable round to be had, decent for a 9 hole city park course. Upgrading to concrete pads and better signage would add to the rating here. I might play again, if in the area.

Decent Shot Selection, Large Park Area 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 30, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

There were nine nice baskets and each hole had a tee sign with distance and a 'map' of the hole.

As a RHBH primary thrower, I needed to throw a forehand on over half of the holes, so it was nice to get me out of the comfort zone.

Holes vary in range from 190-450ft.

Clean, well maintained park. Plenty of parking.

Easy park access right off of highway 13.

Cons:

No tee pads.

The first hole is hard to spot, it is RIGHT next to the swimming pool fence... like you are almost rubbing up against it to start the round. And an errant throw (likely with a new player) could have your disc lost over the public swimming pool fence.

Nothing too exciting for an advanced player (I would recommend to them to check out the Osborne Park Course instead two miles up the road) but this one is definitely worth a quick 20 minute play.

If it gets crowded, some holes throw on top of one another.

Navigation between some holes was easy, but a few you had to search a little bit for. Hole 9 was a little confusing because there were three baskets in sight that all seemed to fit close to the map description to aim for.

Other Thoughts:

Worth a stop in Elkader, but as a more advanced player I would prefer the Osborne Park front nine, but this is located in a nice park with playgrounds, campground, football field, baseball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, etc. Just a really nice park and area! Great for new rec players!

Elkader City Park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 21, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

+Clean, well maintained park.
+Located just off the highway, very easy to find
+Baskets in good repair
+9 Holes in an under-served area ( The next closest course is 20 miles away)
+Standard tee signage
+Decent flow to the course

Cons:

-Dirt Tees
-Hole 1 is confusing at first, there are 3 baskets visible from tee but the real one is behind the fence to the right.
-There's not a whole lot of variety or shot shaping

Other Thoughts:

All in all, This isn't a bad course, it would be great for beginners or as a warm up. It was a nice little break from driving all day.
