The "other" course at Circle-R 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 28, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is a temp course that has been set up once a year for the Texas Teams match play event. It's a John Houck course so you know it's going to be solid. It has a fair balance of short vs. long, and lefty vs. righty holes. There's some really nice elevation holes, both up and down. The port-a-john is the lone amenity in this remote location.

Cons:

Tees are natural and rough in places. Being a temp course this does not get a lot of play and as such the foliage can get thick. The course is too far from the ranch pro shop to conveniently walk, so a short drive is necessary. Course navigation is tricky at a couple points and first timers without a map won't stand much of a chance.

Other Thoughts:

Being part of the Circle-R Disc Golf Ranch it's hard not to compare this course to its big brothers: Meadow and Hill. While those two feel like distinguished members of disc golf high society with multiple tees, well designed holes, fantastic signage, and once proud tee pads... the Back-50 is the forgotten step child. It's minimalistic in amenities, existing primarily to expand the hole count so more people are able to play events. Given that it serves its purpose well, but no one will mistake this course for either of the other two Circle-R mainstays.
