wide open 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 26, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

if you want to just throw and see how far you can reach.. this is the place.
fairway was well mowed, and rough only about six inches tall.. looks like they care

Cons:

damp...rain the night before. mud around baskets.
like wet clay.

Other Thoughts:

think number 8 in only 150 feet.. straight line..

float it, gun it.. this is your ace hole

Boring course, but nothing else is really wrong with it. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 29, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-There are nine holes of varying length to play.

-Work on your distance and accuracy when driving in a field. If you can't even be accurate in a field, then how are you going to be accurate on a course with extra obstacles?

-Very little in the way of traffic from non disc golfers, so you don't have to worry about anyone walking across the fairway. You might see a few people walk the trail around the reservoir, but they usually won't be anywhere near where you're throwing.

-The course is maintained surprisingly well. I didn't see any vandalism on any baskets or signs, and the grass was cut short every time I went. If nothing else, this is one of the largest areas of open, public land that you'll ever have to throw in.

Cons:

-There are next to no obstacles for you to shape your shots around. One tree in the fairway doesn't count. The only difficulty comes from the distance, because some of the holes are fairly long.

-No real tee pads. Just throw from the dirt next to the sign.

Other Thoughts:

I can't give a course higher than a 2 star rating with such a basic design, even if it doesn't have any major problems with it. This is more of a place to practice if it happens to be convenient, rather than a course you would seek out. I spend a fair amount of time in this part of Ohio so I stop by this course when I'm in Defiance, but you're not missing anything too spectacular if you decide to skip it.

Beginner course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 17, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Wide open with no obstructions in the way from tee to basket means this is a great course for novice players.
Beautiful, quiet, tranquil.
Some extremely moderate elevation changes.
Good range of distances, from 150-500 ft.
Good place to just air out some drives with no consequence other than the remaining distance to the basket.

Cons:

Wide open with no obstructions in your way from tee to basket means this course does not provide much challenge to anyone who has any experience.

Other Thoughts:

It's well kept and pretty, but it is literally throw to open basket, rinse repeat for 9 holes.

Beautifully Maintained 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 9, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

This new course is sculpted in much the way a ball golf course would be laid out: fairways and oval greens with low cut grass, while the rough is allowed to grow a little higher. The effect is visible in the map I've added here on the site. There are obviously intended shapes to the shots, which would have you making throws that bend to the left and the right, and looking for the fairway on the longest (500 foot) hole. If the rough grows really long in the summer, you'll want to keep to the fairway, or risk a long search. There's even an ace run 150 foot 7th hole, so the course has some changes in distance.

The place is immaculately maintained, and has very helpful tee signs. The flow is easy, and logical to follow all the way around the loop. With al of the shots in essentially a flat-ish field area between the reservoir and the woods, you'd have to really shank one to lose a disc here (though I'm not certain how high they let the rough grow in the summer).

The course lies in its own setting with no obvious way for other activities to get in the way, so I would think this might be a really good spot for Defiance area disc golfers to work on their basic shots on temperate days (I'm picturing even stronger fall and winter winds, and some really hot sun-shiny summer days out here, too!). And it might be really fun to play some long bomb safari shots from up the hill by the reservoir and angling to the various baskets.

Cons:

Unfortunately, a ball golf layout doesn't really force the disc golfer to follow the somewhat two dimensional nature of the design. A well executed throw could swing way off the fairway and land easily on the generous greens, and there are no serious obstructions forcing a particular line. So when you tee off on hole 4, the natural line of a hyzer (rhbh) goes right over the 6th basket and green, so folks will need to be wary of others on the course.

There are a total of only nine (yes, 9) off-road parking spaces by a nice piece of landscaping that starts the course. I saw a port-o-let in the distance at the other end of the course. The tee areas are natural grass somewhere in the vicinity of the good tee posts.

Other Thoughts:

The course pictures show beautiful new baskets, though they were pulled for the winter by the time I had a chance to play the course on a windy day in November. I played to the wooden stakes used to mark the sleeves.

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 7, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Its a great course for beginners and children.
Also a good place to test out new disc for characteristics without the fear of damage or loss of disc.

Cons:

No real challenges or obstacles. No shade whatsoever.

Other Thoughts:

Worth the time to stop and play if your in the area.

Give it time.... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 14, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a brand new park. It is well kept and there is descent parking. If you have little control or just wanna go bomb it then this is a course for you. I have heard rumors of the replanting of some tree from downtown to course..like i said rumors...(good idea however)

Cons:

Course has not a lot to offer right now. Without trees or anything the dog-legs are pointless to throw the flyway,( @ 230 whatever feet ) when you can just turn 90 degrees and putt it 90 feet...LOL...makes it tough to play more than once unless you just wanna throw drives for practice.

Other Thoughts:

Most parks have potential and this one does too. Give it time.......

Field of Drives 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 2, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Parks is very clean and well kept with awesome greens and fairways that give it a real golf feel. Holes, although plain do offer some different angles and would be a great course for beginning players to use as a practice course. Score/rule sheets are available next to the parking lot.

Cons:

No obstacles at all, course is quite literally 9 holes laid out on a grass field, with the exceptions of some trees on the right side of the field. Course gets somewhat repetitive with just basic drives and putt/approaches that really don't require any extra thought, just straight on throws.

Other Thoughts:

Decent course to play once in a while, but don't expect a whole lot, it is definitely as basic as a course can get.

it's basically throwing in a field with baskets 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 23, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice baskets ,
long holes ,
good field practice course were you can learn what each of your disc can do ,without worry of hitting anything .

Cons:

way to easy despite most of the holes being over 350'
no trees are other obstacles at all
bugs are really bad in summer because of the reservoir .
The baskets were not properly installed and are wobbly and coming out of the ground after only a year .
Every hole is a rbh straight ahead shot ,theres so many different types of hole that could be there ,forehand shots around bends and some major doglegs ,but the designer didn't use any other shot types which makes the course seriously boring

Other Thoughts:

The course could be good ,with proper design by someone that knows what there doing ,the course doesn't utilize the most of the area .
There much better options for the area ,bryan just down the road and will be a 18 hole course as of spring with dual tees

Baskets in a field 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 11, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Another place in NW Ohio to huk plastic.
Hard to lose a disc.
Fairways were mowed very nicely.

Cons:

9 baskets placed in a wide open field next to the city reservoir. No water comes into play however, unless you include the swamp I found around the basket for #5.

I don't believe the signage accurately portrays distance. Either that or I threw my Gator 300' when I can barely get my drivers out that far.

Natural tees

Other Thoughts:

Short and wide open does not make for a very substantial challenge. The 'rough' was only about 4" tall and consisted of grass and clover. Only chances of losing a disc were hole 5 or hole 9, which abut a treeline protecting a creek.Holes 6, 7 and 8 run along the same treeline, but the basket placement negates most chances of getting lost, barring a badly shanked drive. I enjoy all my rounds of disc golf, but this course was very underwhelming.
