Hometown Fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 4, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Proud of this hometown course. It's a fun 9 hole course that can be enjoyed and appreciated by all types of players. The holes are well labeled and offer nice tee pads. The holes vary in distance and the layout does offer some challenges.

Cons:

Pretty flat course. A wind storm knocked down a few trees that caused more difficulty on a few holes.

Other Thoughts:

I'm a Columbus native and enjoy this course. I've played a variety of courses around the Midwest and still enjoy playing this course and find Columbus is fortunate to have this nice park and course. I feel this course is underrated and I enjoy playing when I come back home to visit.

Worth playing if passing through or near town 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 20, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great park; I grew up in Columbus as a kid (well before the course was put in) and I had forgotten how nice Pawnee Park was. It almost has a state park feel. Great trees. Well-maintained. Nice, long distances on most holes with the trees providing adequate obstacles. Nice baskets. Nice concrete tees. Nice facilities close by, including a nice hike/bike trail, shelters, rest rooms, trash cans, etc. Convenient location on the south edge of town off Highway 30.

Cons:

Flat; elevation changes could adequately be reported in centimeters. Pretty much just straight shots.

Other Thoughts:

The evening that I played this course, it was unusually warm, calm, and pleasant. The sun was just starting to go down. The colorful leaves stayed late on the trees this year, but quite a few had fallen already. Everything was nearly perfect. I had a 4 - 1/2 star experience on a fairly typical course. That is every bit as good as playing a nearly-perfect course in bad weather. If you are traveling through the area, the course is definitely worth playing at least once in your lifetime, especially if you find yourself in the same favorable conditions I was fortunate enough to experience.

A stroll in the park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 25, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Good course for beginners, as it will not be too intimidating, there aren't a lot of places to lose a disc, and it's only 9 holes
- Nice big concrete tee pads
- Baskets are in good shape
- Grass was all cut short when I was there
- Playground, pond, and skate park onsite to keep the kids happy
- Some big beautiful trees around the course
- One water hazard comes into play on hole 1
- There's a map of the course on a sign near hole 1
- Map's on each holes tee sign, even though they aren't necessary

Cons:

- Distance on signs seems to be high on most holes
- Flat, no elevation change, but this is NE it's kind of to be expected
- Every hole is straight ahead, no shots requiring any line shaping
- Some signs were missing their hole #, but it's not necessary to follow the course flow
- Not an exciting course for anyone who is an experienced disc golfer
- No real memorable holes on the course
- Picnic tables thrown into the water hazard next to hole 1

Other Thoughts:

This is your basic short easy beginner's course, great for taking kids or first timers out to when you want to get them into disc golf without having them be overwhelmed. The course has trees on every hole, but never enough that it would make you have to think too much about your shot. Just throw it straight and you will have no problem. There is a water hazard on the right hand side of hole 1, but you would have to throw a short hard turnover to end up in there (throwing RHBH). There are other activities around the park for people who don't want to disc golf. There is a playground, volleyball court, a pond, even a skate park, though the skate park looked pretty lame, so I wouldn't recommend coming here just for that. The course itself is not very memorable. It's your basic park course, and one that is not exciting in any way. There is no elevation change of any kind on the course, it could make it a good course for people in wheelchairs. I felt like this course could have used to have some of the baskets tucked up behind trees to make for more challenge. As it is, I felt like the trees that were there weren't used to their fullest extent.

Better than expected 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 4, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Surprising length. Mostly in the 300s with one hole listed at 500+.
-Concrete tees.
-Practice basket at start
-Other amenities like bathrooms, skate park, playgrounds, ponds, plenty of parking. It's a nice park.
-No other park activities get in the way of disc golf.
-A great beginners course. Not too short or too long. Shouldn't lose a disc here or get overly frustrated with tight fairways or bad rough.
-Signage is good enough for this course, no confusion regarding which basket to throw at.
-Not busy.

Cons:

-Not too challenging. There are trees but they are avoided without too much effort.
-Very flat, in a floodplain next to the river. Could flood in an especially bad year.
-There really isn't a ton to say that's bad about this course. It does it's job well as a beginners course.

Other Thoughts:

This is a solid beginners course. It won't challenge intermediate players too much but won't bore them too much either. It was longer and more enjoyable then I had anticipated. I probably wouldn't play here again unless I lived here. It wouldn't be too bad.

Nice and easy 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 17, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Well maintained, fairly new course I'd guess. Easy to find your way around. Great course for people just starting out or if you want to feel good about your game.....

Cons:

Not a very challenging course. Most holes right around 300', a couple shorter, 1 longer but really no trouble to speak of and not much need to be creative with shots.

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice course but its not much more than a walk in a park with a disc. It happened to be right next to my hotel here so I played it. Wouldn't make it a destination.

Fun starter course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 15, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very easy course to play. Great course for beginners and kids to play on. This is a new course, so the baskets, tee signs and tees are in great shape. There are restrooms available at the park. Huge, mature trees make for good obstacles. The park is small and you are never far from the parking lot. The park is well taken care of, losing discs shouldn't be a problem.

Cons:

Course will be too easy for advanced players on up, but it can serve as great practice for your short game. There isn't much variety as far as shots go, most holes are straight ahead. If you have a bad shot, it is still easy to get your three. There are only one set of tees, and some baskets are located very close to the next tee pad.

Other Thoughts:

While this course isn't challenging, it is still a fun round of golf. As previously stated, it would be a great course to take beginners and kids too, and it makes for great short game practice. An additional set of tee pads for more advanced players would make this course much better. I wouldn't make a long trip just to play this course, but if you are nearby it is definitely worth a play.

Great For Beginners 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 22, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very Easy Course. It is impossible to lose a disc. It's very open with no water obstructions and few trees for beginners. The course is very easy to navigate. All tee-pads are concrete with a map of each hole. Baskets are in Great shape.

Cons:

Very Easy Course. There is only one hole where you can really air it out. The holes are very short. It is only a 9 hole course compared to an 18.

Other Thoughts:

Great Course for bringing out the family or for those just starting in the sport. A nice park overall, with an easy course for skilled players.
