Has Potential But Bring Your Guide Dog! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 21, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Oak View Park is a neighborhood park that runs under the power lines. There are basketball courts and a parking lot at the end which seems to get the most use. The restrooms were open on a Monday morning. The grass is green and thick and quite pleasant to walk on. The park extends back to a more unused area.

The course starts right next to the restrooms. It has the old school fiberglass tee signs with the obiligatory course rules sign. I couldn't find a tee pad for # 1 so I guess you use the sidewalk here. The baskets are Innova Discatchers with the yellow bands and small numbers on them.

# 1 is a 200' par 3 to a basket set up on the hill. Trying to find # 2, I guessed to walk up the berm hill. I found a rubber mat but no sign.

From here the course gets kinda confusing. As you look out, you see a plethora of the fiberglass tee signs sticking up but few baskets. Eventually, I deducted that each basket is used twice but each basket only has one number on it. There are a variety of tee pads, no pads, etc.
It's too bad, really, because there is some nice elevation to throw from and some fun, challenging holes like # 13. It's 342', throwing downhill, through the power pole standards to a basket guarded by some trees below.
Apparently, # 9 basket was pulled after some kid was nailed with a disc. And because that basket is used twice, two holes are affected. Locals now play # 9 back to the # 1 basket.

Cons:

Navigation is confusing and frustrating.
Tee signs are hit or miss.
Tee pads are hit or miss.
Missing # 9 basket.
The fiberglass signs sticking up all over the place are really an eyesore in this park. This is a situation where I believe disc golf gets a bad rap from the community. This isn't the most beautiful park around but these signs don't help things any.

Other Thoughts:

Locals could really help the navigation process here by simply taking a sharpie and writing the second number on the basket with a sharpie. It would have helped me a lot if I had known that basket # 1 was also # 10.

With just a little work from the local club this course could become average. It's never going to be a destination course or anything but come on guys, give it a little help!

not worth playing unless you live in the neighborhood and you wanna practice 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 16, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The "course" is layed out in an otherwise unused portion of the park so there's nobody else around. There are 7 nice baskets to throw at. If you need to practice in the wind, this is the place.

Cons:

No teepads and the teesigns are crappy at best and several are gone making navigation next to impossible. At least 2 of the baskets are gone. #2 and #9. Since all the baskets are used twice, this eliminates 4 holes. Many of the "teepads" are right next to baskets but since nobody plays here its not a big deal. The layout is very open. I think there are 4 trees to contend with so not very challenging. Besides weekly mowing of tge grass section, nobodys keeping up on maintenance and the course is in disrepair.

Other Thoughts:

This course was put in as an afterthought. It works for practice if you live close but its not playable as an actual course so don't go out of your way.

Fun 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Convienient freeway access.
Good use of space available.

Cons:

Almost non existant pads.
Missing signs.

Other Thoughts:

We played here on our way back to Phoenix from Los Angeles. It was a fun little course with mostly shorter wide open shots. We all enjoyed it as a nice easy round after the more technical and demanding rounds at Oak Grove. Not something to make a special trip for but would say hit it if your driving past on the I-10.

Open park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 18, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course plays through a fairly open public park. It doesn't seem like there's much if any conflict with the other park uses and the disc golf course. There are a couple nice elevation changes to make things a little more challenging, and a couple pin placements are near enough to the hills to offer potential rollaways. A couple holes have a few scattered small trees in play to add some difficulty.

Cons:

The layout is pretty wide open, not a ton of challenge or real variety when most of the shots are in open grass fields. The tees aren't all marked, some of the signage is missing or unreadable and some of the teeing areas aren't very level. There isn't a ton of variety in the lengths of the holes. Some of the shots have the potential to go into private yards.

Other Thoughts:

Beginners will find this course approachable with little punishment on errant shots other than around the couple sloped areas. More experienced players won't find a ton of difficulty, or enough obstacles to really force interesting line shaping. This is an ok practice area, but not a course to go out of your way to play.

Great community DG course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 24, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Fairly easy to see where the next hole is. Nice to have A and B pins on #1-5.

Cons:

Spraypaint used for tees hard to find after the rain.

Other Thoughts:

Good distances for a Community park, I couldnt find all the tees, so I would shoot from the last pin. Will be great when pads are installed.

Great shot practice course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 16, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Course is in a grassy park with brand new Innova Baskets and multiple pin locations (3 per hole). Can be played backwards as well to make 18-holes. The course is run by the Oak Valley Disc Golf Club (OVDGC) and they put on quality events and offer help to anyone who wants to play. Not a lot of trees, but the club designed a challenging course with stratigic pin positions near hills and different shot options available at tees. Great course to bring the family to play and new players. The area is graded with different plateau elevations, which makes for some fun downhill and challenging sidehill technical shots. Relatively shot course with a good number of Ace run holes.

Cons:

No cement or rubber tees yet. OVDGC is getting ready to install soon. Fields can be overwatered sometimes, especially in early morning - gets kinda marshy in areas. Bathrooms at park are only available during special events.

Other Thoughts:

Check the club website in the links area for upcoming events the OVDGC will be putting on. These guys are doing big things for promoting disc golf and enjoy getting new players pumped on Disc Golf.
