Fun Woods Holes, Quick Shady Loop

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 23, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good descriptive signage and easy-to-follow flow.

Good tee boxes and baskets, wooden bridges added in several places to help with (sometimes dry) creek/run-off crossings.

Multiple pin placements on some holes and several cool/interesting basket locations on rocks, hills, side hills, with cross ties surrounding them, etc.

Very fun lines to throw in the woods, some holes with options from the tee.

Most of the holes play mostly in the shade.

Cons:

The course is definitely short. No "two shot" holes. All are reachable by many, if not most, experienced players.

The later holes that play around the church building are not as interesting as the first 12 holes or so.

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed this course quite a bit. Shot-shaping in the woods is one of my favorite kinds of golf and the first 2/3 of this course is basically that. There are ace runs, possible forehand lines, and plenty of hyzer-flips.

Father's Day Afternoon 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 21, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

I agree with everything jjcritter said. Even better those trash cans are being used. I noted a distinct lack of trash on the course so a Shout Out to all the locals that contribute to keeping the course clean. I really appreciated the benches and bag rests at practically every hole. I'll also note the mostly wooded course allows play in a bit warmer temperatures. Being Old and Out of Shape, those last two statements may appeal to a certain segment of our community. :)

Cons:

Again, agree with jjcritter. Too many under or right at 200-foot holes. Yes, the use of trees has made them more technical but still. I'll freely admit that I may not have been paying close enough attention but I sometimes got mixed up getting to the next tee box just by following the trail. Trail arrow signs could help. Finally, and I have no suggestions to help other than...the entrance is off of an exit ramp.

Other Thoughts:

My father's day afternoon was a good experience. I threw some decent shots, made some decent putts but more importantly, was allowed to play through no less than 4 parties in 7 holes with no issues whatsoever. I'm sad to say that I play solo often all over the country and don't receive the courtesy as often as I could. Again, Shout Out to the local community. Even amidst this pandemic shit, you are still friendly...to the point of giving me a beer.

Eagle Hill 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 29, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Recently installed new Latitude 64 ProBasket Competition baskets. Uniform concrete T-Pads. Profesional signage. Multiple pin positions and a few long/short pads. 9 holes in heavily wooded area making a nice technical aspect to this course. Well maintained. Trash cans on many holes.

Cons:

Short.

Other Thoughts:

This course is still a project in the works. Started as a 9 hole course 10 years ago with dirt T-Pads and baskets made from plastic wash tubs. There are plans to add more pin positions increasing length and difficulty.

Nice little private course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 28, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Tee pads on a few holes
Course is marked enough to figure it out once you find hole 1.

Cons:

tees are being worked on, so there are some tees that are hard to figure out right now
Some of the holes are very short

Other Thoughts:

I talked to the club president, this course is being worked on to make it better constantly as they get money.

They already have a few tee pads and are working on more challenging locations for several holes.

In general, there are both long wide open shots and some very tight technical short holes.

Even working on adding 9 more holes on the east side of the property.

I had fun playing this course and recommend playing it if you are in the area. It is a good private FREE course to play.

Nice Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 22, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

I thought this was a pretty good course.
They have a PDGA approved baskets at each of the holes. Wooden post that tell you which hole you are at and a layout that is fun and challenging.
The grass wasn't overgrown and the course seemed to be well maintained. There was even places to sit at on some of the holes.
I went with my family, and my sisters really enjoying playing on the swing set that the church had close to hole 15.
The course also mixed up the holes so that it was challenging for pros but at the same time fun for amateurs. The holes went through some heavily dense woods but then came out for some open shots as well.

Cons:

Some of the holes are really short and I wish they had made them a bit longer but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. They still had to cater to amateurs.
The tee boxes were under construction, so we had to throw to the side of where the construction was taking place.

Other Thoughts:

Excited to see that they are improving the course and installing concrete boxes. I think that will make the course a whole lot better.
I think this is a fun place to come and spend some time practicing different techniques and precision. The shade also helps a lot during the hotter parts of the year.

Nice little course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 30, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

It has "recently" been upgraded to an 18 hole course. The tees and baskets are easy to locate even if you are new to the course. It is very well maintained and on a beautiful piece of church property. It is right off of 75/69 if you are on a road trip from Texas to almost anywhere, OK. as I was. I played the 18 hole layout in 25 minutes without a guide and finished -4.

Cons:

The "new" 9 holes in the woods are homemade baskets. They are not bad, very interesting setup with laundry basket type buckets. They work. They are a little less forgiving than a true DG basket which will only make you better if you play this course often. Most of the holes in the trees I found to be a little short. But I am used to playing courses like Z-Boaz, Crossroads of Life and Coyote in TX that have 250- 710ft tree holes. Most of the ones here are under 180. But it was still very entertaining.

Other Thoughts:

I wouldn't recommend a road trip to play this course, but I would absolutely recommend a stop off if you are already driving down 69 anyway! Fun times. I played on an 84deg day with 66% humidity and finished sopping wet from the sweat. Felt like it was 110 deg easily, still had a blast disc golfing for a few minutes on my 6 hour drive.

Great course for novice level 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 19, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Nice, new baskets(not homemade originally a few years ago they were)
-short course longest hole is No1. at 315 ft.
-great mix of open holes and holes with nice, natural obstacle--Holes no. 3, 5, 7
-1st tee is 50 ft. from parking spaces
-not crowded
-grass is mowed regularly
-great for beginners learning to play
-great eagle chances at holes no. 6, 7 should be easy birdies for anyone that has played a few months

Cons:

-it has three par 2's holes number 2, 4, and 9
-no tee boxes. only marked by post with hole #, length and par number plaque
-only a par 26 course.
-I have seen many tarantulas
-the finishing hole no. 9 is unimaginative, plain, and disappointing

Other Thoughts:

Most locals play all holes as par 3s for a par 27 course. course is marked as par 26 because of the three par 2's

Alternate 18 Hole Layout 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 5, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Now 18 holes! We were lucky to run into some friendly & dedicated local disc golfers who took us through the new 18-hole layout. The older, home-made baskets have been moved into the heavily, HEAVILY wooded areas to the south. Newer, all-metal baskets take their place on the original nine holes.

Cons:

Although teepads and pathways for the newly added holes are marked with orange spray paint, one could easily get lost in the woods. Highly recommend contacting the locals if interested in playing the 18-hole layout (look for "Eagle Hill Disc Golf Course" on Facebook).

Other Thoughts:

Less than a mile away from the famous Pete's Place restaurant in Krebs--home of Choc Beer! Why not take an Oklahoma disc golf/microbrew road trip?

No Eagles to be had here 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 11, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Great tee signs
Scorecards by the course map
Close parking
Very well kept
A few different looks
Not crowded
Baskets look goofy but they catch (if you aim right)
Some risk/reward
Work on your midrange/short game
Ace chances
Great place to take newbies/family
Quick round
Easy navigation
Map on scorecard
Very clean

Favorite Hole(s): #7

Update: Now that there are 18 holes I will do my best to get back and change my review as soon as I can.

Cons:

Natural tees
Short
Not very challenging
Not enough risk/reward
Plays near ball field on some holes. (Not a big deal as there aren't many days with others there).
No bathrooms/trashcans (carry in/carry out)

Other Thoughts:

All in all this course is a decent attempt by the Scouts. A little fun to be had here. There aren't very meny places to play around there and this is better than not playing imo. If you're near McAlester stop by if you want to work on midrange or for just a quick round or two.

Quick Fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 8, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very well maintained (when I was there). Scorecards available with maps making it easy to navigate. Starts and ends close to the parking area. Offers pretty good variety of shots for a shorter course. Many short ace possible shots.

It is a fun quick 9 hole course that appears to maintained very well.

Cons:

No Tee Pads. Homemade Baskets. No trash cans.

Other Thoughts:

It is a private course (FREE TO PLAY) on a church property. There are not many courses in the area so its nice to find one so well maintained. There are no trash cans or restrooms. Be respectful and take your trash with you please.

Fun yet challenging 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 18, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice signs at the tee to let you know how the hole plays. Easy to follow. Next to a church, so parking isn't a problem. very well kept.

Cons:

The baskets seem to be a permanent home-made type of basket.

Other Thoughts:

The course consists of mainly par 3's, however the use of the terrain is excellent to provide a couple par 4's. although there were a few extremely short holes, they made them par 2, so you can still play competitively. FUN COURSE!
