I played this course the last time I was in Thunder Bay in 2013 and my my has it changed. The old design was mostly a mid range and putter course with really slippery tee pads that was condensed in a small part of the park. I was fond of the course but mostly because I had aced #18.

To my surprise, the course, parking lot and pretty much everything in the area looked very different. The man made lake was also drained to give it an even more different look. I was lucky to join up with a couple locals that showed me the way around.

The new Birch Point has been expanded to be lots bigger than the old course. It's a full 18 holes of mostly 300-350ft holes and a few longer par 4s tossed in. We threw the long tees in all three rounds because the short tees aren't fully organized. They are marked with the slippery tee pads from the old course but not on all holes. It's not a long course but having proper short tees would make this course even better.

The course also has multiple pin locations for every hole with the hole's current placement being noted on each hole sign. Hole 5s basket location was fun but without a spotter, it could be a very risky shot. The entire course is nestled into a maze of public walking paths so there can be some waiting involved. The walkers all seem to be very aware of disc golf but caution is needed at almost all times on the course. While playing the wooded section, there was multiple people cutting across fairways so the path is not the only pedestrian danger. Keep your eyes peeled.

The course design really pushes disc golfers to have a full set of skills and shots available with a great mix of wooded and open shots that require all kinds of angles and types of shots. Players learning to play on this course will end up with a full skill set over time that comes in handy on any other course.

It's clear that a lot of money and work have gone into the improvement of this course since the last time I came to town. This is the course that got the sport going in Thunder Bay and it's very clear that the locals prefer this spot to any other. With short tee pads and signage, this is a 5 star course, everyone in the area should make a point of playing "the point".

I play this course daily, I have nothing to compare it to as it's the only course I have played but having looked at many other courses online, I would say this course is great. It's a challenging course, lots of trees and some differing terrain. Absolutely gorgeous area and always another group of friendly people playing a round nearby.

The 5th hole is a serious water hazard. I wouldn't call this a con, I would just take care when driving on 5 as the lake loves to eat discs.

I would strongly suggest that anyone in the area, play this course.

Great location, quality signs and map, nice mix of dog leg rights and lefts. 5 and 12 are sweet water holes with a nice opportunity to really let loose. First 9 holes have some nice rolling hills and valleys and challenging lines. Back 9 low canopies create a challenge with tight lines. Lots of trees everywhere.locals are very cool and always willing to play with anyone. Course is always well groomed and tons of eye candy all over the path.

Could be some benches on the holes you have to wait for people to clear the path, but the candy makes it tolerable

Once of the nicer courses I've played don't pass through Thunder Bay and not play birch point!

I've been playing this course since they first installed it, before tee-pads and signs. Although I was familiar with the course already before the signs went up, the tee-pads were a welcome addition. The signs definitely help new players to familiarize themselves with the course. The park is generally well groomed by the city and the people in the park are always friendly.

The course is very LHBH or RHFH focused and lacks elevation change. It is also split by a walking path, which is often busy causing delays in your round. The slightest bit of moisture makes the pads very slick.

It's great to have a course up there!

Great walking course with nice grass and attractive landscape. Some challenging holes due to location of baskets.

A little hard to find for someone from out of town. I came from the south end of the lake, thinking I could get to the course by coming up the eastern side of the lake from the south. That didn't work. Instead, I had to go clear around the lake. That worked fine.

I was on vacation, so I was just looking for a fun course to take a walk and enjoy the sites and disc golf. I knew it was probably a nice park, but it was a really nice park. Good job Thunder Bay!

Good balanced course. Some long bombs and some tech short stuff. The course has signs now so its easier to navigate.

Well used park with a walking trail, so you have to wait to shoot sometimes.

I liked this course. It has a beautiful setting and the people are really nice. Not a lot of people have heard of disc golf before in Thunder Bay, but people are getting into it. This leads to a lot of beginners out on the course, which can slow play.

The only real hazard is on 5, but there is plenty of OB if you know the layout. Overall could be a bit more challenging, but great for a town that has a lot of beginners and the only disc golf course for 350 km around.
