Pros:

- good quality baskets
- good concrete tee pads
- great tee signs with all the info you need
- multiple basket positions
- navigation is simple
- good variety of lines need to shape the shots

Cons:

- very sandy coure
- the front 18 is very congested, sometimes it's confusing which basket you are playing to
- with how tight the baskets are, I feel like it would be a safety concern
- the majority of holes are between 200" and 300" not offering a ton of distance variety
- lots of exposure of the course, very little shade

Other Thoughts:

I feel like this course should be lengthened and turned into an 18 hole course.

#where is my disc? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 17, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Cool layout in a river bottom offers challenging play through the trees. Each hole seemed to have a tree or two playing into it, you need to have both a forehand and a backhand to play some of the dog legs. Really fun course from what I am used to playing on.

Cons:

To get to each tee pads you had to cross the previous fairway. Keep your head up and watch for discs flying at you. For such a nice course I only saw one other person there. It was kind of creepy, like the start to a scary movie. Finding my disc was challenging at times, mostly because it is yellow and everything out there was yellow at the time.

Other Thoughts:

I would play this course again any time. I would have played it twice but the wife was ready to go. Bring bug spray and where pants or long socks, the sticker bushes just kill you.

Alamosa Appreciation 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 23, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Alamosa DGC is not extremely difficult, with a little water and some tall grass, but little elevation change and short average hole length. Open and brushy with sandy fairways. There are enough trees to create some interesting holes, and provide shade in the summer. A lot of birdies out there if you are driving and putting well. I shot a 50 on my first round, and par is posted at a generous 57. The three par 4 holes I scored 3's, and I had 4 deuces. Could potentially shoot a really low number here, I missed a few other birdie putts. There is a course map in the parking lot, and nice signs on each hole. Tees are concrete, and the baskets are all respectable. Very easy layout to follow.

Cons:

Not difficult, perfect for beginners. Kind of bland, adequate, but nothing spectacular. Water on a few holes, and some tall grass, could lose a disc potentially. Advanced players will likely find this course to be way to easy.

Other Thoughts:

The third and final course of a 3 day Colorado trip, my father and I were a bit relieved to see the flat area that Alamosa DGC is occupying. The 2 days prior were far more taxing physically. Not amazing, but still fun, playing for low scores in a nice little park. San Luis Brewing Company in town was a perfect follow up for lunch and some craft beers.

Fun Little Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 15, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is very well maintained and the concrete tee boxes and baskets all in prefect shape. This may be the cleanest disc golf park you will ever play - there was no litter to found anywhere. The course is short, but well designed and easy to find tees and baskets. If you are in the neighborhood, I recommend you stop by.

Cons:

17 has no landing area and there is undergrowth about a foot tall which could make it hard to find your disc. On 18 I was a little confused by the small amount of water short right - there is a lot more water long left.

Fun in the Brush 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 17, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice concrete tee-pads
-The course features quite a few ace runs
-Baskets are in good shape and since they are Innova Discatchers, the yellow top makes them easy to spot from the tee-pad
-Benches are on a few holes
-Course is easy to navigate and the flow makes sense.
-Good amount of trees and obstacles that will knock down an errant drive, which makes the course require some accuracy to score well.
-Very nice tee-signs that tell you the par, the distance and show a layout of the hole.
-Brooms at each tee-pad to sweep them off if they get dusty.
-Trashcan and Porta-Potty at the beginning of the course.
-Very slight elevation changes on some holes
-Practice basket and sign/map of the course at the beginning.
-Good place to work on your putter/mid range drives.

Cons:

-Course is not super long. One hole is 340 feet and all of the others are 315 ft or under, with a majority of the holes between about 180 and 250 or so.
-A lot of the holes play really close to each other and some of the holes cross over each other (definitely keep an eye at for incoming discs as there is a chance of being hit).
-After hole 18 you have to walk through the fairway for hole 9 to get back to the parking lot, which is a big safety issue.
-A lot of the shots are straight shots to the basket. I feel like design could have better utilized some of the obstacles available to encourage some more line shaping.
-The course is not very challenging currently.
-The course is very dusty. Dust will get all over you, your discs and your bags.
-The course doesn't have multiple pin positions or alternate tee-pads.

Other Thoughts:

It is nice to see a course in Alamosa, but overall none of the holes on this course are very memorable. This course definitely has potential and I feel like with some alternate pin positions and/or tee-pads this course could be a pretty good course.

Nice 18 Holes 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 26, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I've spent a second summer in Alamosa and have probably played this course 50 times now.

Excellent concrete tee pads, very good signs, and all baskets in perfect condition, including a practice basket near the parking lot. There is a porta-potty at the parking lot, but no water so bring your own.

There are two 9-hole loops that start and end near the parking lot, which makes it easy to start on hole 10 if a group is already on the first tee.

Half of the holes on the course are 180 - 250 feet, so many opportunities for birdies and ace runs. In spite of the short hole lengths, there are enough trees and brush to require different lines, and several of the holes favor RHFH or LHBH players as they need a right fade. I'd estimate that 90% of the locals throw RHFH.

The three par 4's are marginal, and were played as par 3's during a recent tournament.

There is no a lot of elevation change here, but a couple of holes do have a modest downhill drive that adds some interest.

In spite of the short length, there are 18 pretty decent holes here and I enjoy the variety.

The ground is very sandy so shots tend to stay put once they land. Not a roller-friendly course at all.

Cons:

Some of the cottonwoods on the course are dying or dead, so there are a lot of branches and logs on the ground. Not really a problem, but they do catch a shot now and then.

This is a compact layout, so a few of the baskets are close together and a couple of teepads are near the previous hole's fairway.

Other Thoughts:

The hole info shows 7 holes with water in play, but the two summers I've been here the course has been dry.

Inviting and Enticing 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 9, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

With the recent installation and completion of the back nine, Alamosa DGC has made its mark on the map. The effort and care spent on developing the course is evident. Some of the finer touches include: premium signage with two bag hooks, occasional log benches, flat and wide natural tee pads, trimmed and cleared fairways, and wood chips around baskets to hinder small plant growth and prevent soil erosion. Shiny new Innova DISCatcher baskets stand out amongst dense clusters of trees and even pop out from patches of yellow fall leaves. The foot paths are defined so you'll rarely misjudge where you're headed from one tee to the next. The smooth gravel parking lot puts you in front of a descriptive course sign and within 50 feet of the first hole. A small wooden bridge and stark white "EXIT" sign show the way out after hole #18. There isn't a public restroom yet, but there is plenty of dense forested overgrowth if desperation takes hold.

The front nine, which opened earlier this year, are mostly short holes with abundant ace and birdie opportunities. Although they're short and lack alternate tees, the pin positions are not totally elementary. They twist through the tall trunks of cottonwoods while some bushes and logs provide much needed ground-level obstacles. The back nine offer two (debatable) par 4s, and on a couple holes you'll have to choose between a left or right fairway divided by a row of trees. The view at hole #16 will knock your socks off! It plays an eastward line facing the backdrop of the towering Blanca Massif, a cluster of three 14,000-foot peaks. Well done, course designer.

Cons:

The sandy soil of this old river bottom area is a double-sided card - it will slow your stride and work its way into your shoes, but it also makes for very kind disc landings! "Where it lands is where it stands". From any given tee, you can usually see two or three baskets in your forward-looking range of sight, so to ensure you're throwing at the right target, make note of the numbers on any baskets you see while you're walking about. It's not a large course by any means, so you'll see and hear other groups no matter how far behind or ahead of you they are. None of the fairways overlap, but some of them come a little too close for comfort. Some elevation change would have really spiced things up in a good way; alas there isn't much at all.

Other Thoughts:

Alamosa, a rural town that smells of mushroom farms and fresh mountain air, has made a pleasant offer by way of this fresh disc track. The town's people are great, and this public park shows that their local government is willing to give back. It's exciting to see another fine course sprout up in this beautiful valley!

High Altitude Disc Golf 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 21, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

A nice map greets you at the parking lot before hole #1. The back nine sign should probably be above the front nine sign to be more logical. Layout is fairly systematic holes play in a clock-wise rotation. Nice signage with corporate sponsors. Set in some mature trees along old river bottom and managed by the City Park and Rec. New concrete pads really stand out.
A nice variety of shots required.

Cons:

No long or wide open holes. Lots of sand. Still some thick rough at times. I do not like retreating down the fairway to find the next tee which probably happens 14 out of 18 times.

Other Thoughts:

It is great to have another Disc Golf Course in the San Luis Valley. This one is near the population center and very playable even for beginners. You may want to double check you are throwing at the proper basket first time out.
