Progression At Its Finest 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 6, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

WOW ! They put a lot of course in a small piece of land . Panther 335 sits between reservoirs in McComb , Ohio . There is a small lot next to the kiosk and hole one , and a bigger lot near the ball fields . If there is a bathroom here , I am guessing it is near the ball lot .
The Equipment : Down near the 1st tee ( short one ) There is a nice kiosk with a map . A picnic table sits close , too . There are 2 level cement tee pads , about 3 1/2' X 8' , on almost every hole . The signage is good here . The lettering is large and flight path is descriptive at both tee pads . Red color for short and blue color for long tees . The baskets are Yellow banded Discatchers .
The Landscape : To make up for the lack of woods here , Panther 335 utilized all available elevation , the little woods it had , and some man made additions . The course plays between and around 2 reservoirs which add a small and a larger mound . There is also what looks to be a man made hill that you will tee off of or throw on to a few times . The course does share some space with walkers and maybe ball players . Be considerate . This park was mowed and the tunnel holes and door shots looked to be manicured when I was there . The course plays almost exclusively park style .
The Highlights : You can say what you want about gimmicky holes , but locals will love #11 , what looks like a cross with a hanging basket on the left of it , #16 , the wood framed double mando or the elevated basket on #17 . Here were some of my favorites .Top of the world shot #2 ( 372' longs ) to a basket tucked into some woods . #4 short tunnel shot from a little part of the woods . #8 from the blues plays over part of the reservoir up top ( I don't have that kind of arm at 471' ) I played the reds . 318' up the side of the reservoir to the top , where the basket is protected by a nice cement wall at the top . #12 A long flat fairway drive that will force you to cross a small creek eventually , to a basket protected by the creek on its right and behind it . #15 is a fun downhill drive ( 294' , 354' ) to a risk reward basket sitting in front of a small creek and flanked by a tree . #18 is a sustained flat fairway drive ( 208' , 402' ) where you have to contend with some fairway trees .
Signature Hole : #6 from the blue tee ( 688' ) .You have a top of the world drive off the man made hill , to a landing zone on the left of the reservoir , The basket and small tight green are elevated on a cement platform . Play the blue , even if a newbie , because hey , how often do you get top of the world drives anyway ?
Great uphill shots , downhill drives , tunnel and window shots , water in play . unique basket placements . A lot of variety . Fun Factor is very high here ( I would have a blast playing with my friends here on a Saturday morning )
The Time : It took me about an hour and 15 minutes to play the course . I mixed some long tees with the shorts . A group of 4 will take over 2 1/2 hours to play here .
Disc Risk : Low .If you play the red tee on #8 , your only chances of a lost disc are landing in a fat part of the creek or maybe a blind shot into the trees and brush on #7 .

Cons:

Safety ; The course is wedged in a tight area , and shares space with a ball field near holes #13 & 14 . There is also a cement walking path that runs through the course . There is a bench that is close to the basket on #15 ( ? ) , and hole 16 & 18 are dangerously close . Be careful .
#2 Navigation . Print the map or take advantage of the kiosk and take a picture of the course .Most of the course flows well , but spots like 6-7 , 7-blue 8 , coming back up the hill to throw 10 after throwing 9 ( throw both of your drives from the hill and play each drive at the bottom ) , The long walk from 14-15 .
#3 amenities : not much here . Not benches , waste cans ( carry out what you carry in ) more next tee signs , a shelter .

Other Thoughts:

There is no doubting that this is one of the best courses in Ohio
I read the review to this course before coming here . The park board must be reading it , too . every con and suggestion that the previous reviewers made concerning Panther 335 , the park and rec improved on it .They added 9 more holes , spent money on top notch equipment and course design . This course goes out of its way to be a something for everybody . Short and long cement tees , great signs and baskets ..Even a pro will be challenged here from the blue tees . Unique holes at almost every turn .Instead of a regular course , this is a disc golfer's playground. Come here in a bad mood ? You might leave with a smile on your face .
My Recommendation : With its short and long tees , and low Disc Risk , this is a great course to introduce a player to the game , great for a newbie to gradually gauge his progress , a family outing . Strong Course for the intermediate and Am , and solid enough for the pro . only about 20 minutes off of I-75 , it's not too far for the traveler , and it's a gem for the Course Collector . Everyone : though this is not quite a destination course , it IS a can't miss for anyone happening to be in northwest Ohio . PLAY IT !!!!

Elevation Outta Nowhere! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 29, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Panther 335 was a great surprise right in the heart of Farmland USA. McComb is a quaint little town that had to have spend a fortune on top notch tee signs, tee pads, baskets, and unique pin positions. Surprised to see the amount of top tier ammentities at a small town course.

+ There are some sweet holes here that perfectly utilize the dramatic elevations the park has to offer. Even though the park is pretty wide open, the designer did an awesome job of utilizing water, elevation, and scattered trees to make for an awesome disc golf experience.

+ Several unique pin positions include a hanging basket, elevated baskets on wood and stone, and a basket between two sturdy, tall fences.

+ Great variation in distances, especially from the long tees. Plenty of chances to air out 300' + bombs off of hills, as well as a few chances to get technical.

+ The park is maintained beautifully. Freshly mowed fairways are always a great feature at any course.

+ Water is utilized very nicely. The reservoir and creek can creep into play if you aren't careful, but it's not so overpowering where you have to put away your best discs just in case.

Cons:

- Navigation was a little weird in a few spots, but nothing too overwhelming.

- The pars on the tee signs were a little bit generous here and there. I think there was a 200' par 4 somewhere in there.

- #18 long throws over #16 short.

- May have a few issues with pedestrians near the ball fields and on walking trails.

Other Thoughts:

I was really surprised at the elevation, considering the entire drive to the course was flat farmland. While there isn't much tree coverage, you'll find some sweet holes thanks to the imagination of the designer. This is a must play if you are in Northwest Ohio!

Panther 335 at McComb 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 4, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Superb upkeep at this course rivals Ohio's best picturesque courses.
-Great challenge and differentials between pro and novice tees.
-Visions of some fairways are burnt into a disc golfer's memory.
**old reviews here claim there are no concrete
tees and only nine baskets BUT...there are 18
great baskets with concrete tees!!
***Note to people that usually play normal tees:
Consider playing the PRO tee on Fairway 2
(right up by basket 1.) It's such a fun shot.

Cons:

No notable cons.
Maybe another sign leading to the course start point from roadside?

Other Thoughts:

*First timers should throw conservatively on the two reservoir border shots. (One for right hand, one for lefties)
A griplocked throw could fade into the drink! Overall... you really have to be having an "off-day" to lose a disc here.

MCcomb panther disc golf 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 12, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Very nice well thought out layout. i disagree with the older reviews on this course. almost every hole has a challenge of its own, all hole have nice long and short pads, nice signs and baskets, easy to get around . true its not overly long but long tees add to that challenge. just a nice mix of shots needed here.

Cons:

frankly i has nothing bad to say about this course. wind adds to the challenge as it blew all 3 time i have been there, it can hurt you if you give it a chance.

Other Thoughts:

this is one of my favorites,

Ace Runs in The Sun 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 10, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Elevation changes
2) Short and long tees
3) Many ace runs
4) Clean park; well maintained
5) A few interesting and unique hole features add challnge and scenery
6) Highlight holes: 11
7) Good signage

Cons:

1) 90%+ is wide open
2) No concrete tees
3) Lack of obstacles

Other Thoughts:

I shot this course from the short tees and have never played the longs so my review will only be from the perspective of the shorts.

This is an enjoyable ace run course. It is way, way open, with only 2 or 3 holes involving the woods. Most holes have no trees at all. If you're looking for a fun, relaxing course to play, this is it. Not too much challenge...just running at aces for the most part. The course is very clean and well kept. There are a few hills that allow for some elevation to come into play...some baskets on top of the hills and some at the bottom where you shoot from the top of the hill. There are train tracks right next to the course and I thought that added to the enjoyment somehow because there were quite a few trains that came through during the round.

There are some holes that have unique features. Hole 6 has the basket on a raised platform surrounded by railroad ties. Hole 8's basket is on a raised brick platform. Hole 11's basket is suspended from a cross-type wooden structure. Hole 16 has some tall wooden posts on either side of the fairway about 50-80' in front of the basket that you have to navigate around. Hole 17's basket is on a small railroad tie platform. These features add to the scenery of the course and to the challenge.

My main complaints about the course are that there are no concrete tees and the openness of the course. This is not a course that you can really play after a good rain; especially from the long tees where you have to get a good run up for maximum distance. Further, the course is so open that it really affects the challenge factor of the course. This isn't the designer's fault, but it is true nevertheless. I liked that they tried to increase the challenge by adding the platforms and other unique features described above.

I am giving this course a 3 as is, but I really think it deserves a 2.75. I'm just not willing to give it a 2.5 as this score is described as decent/typical, which I think it surpasses. If they install concrete tees and plant a few trees, this course could be a solid 3.

Worth a visit 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 2, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

1. Clean Park
2. Great Tee Signs
3. Pro & Am tee's on 90% of the holes
4. Excellent use of elevation and available land
5. Most of the course is off to itself with not allot of interferance from non players
6. Park hasd other activites for other family members while you get your disc'n fix
7. Great little next tee markers hanging from each basket,

Cons:

1. Only 9 Holes
2. A few holes had backwards walks from basket to tee but nothing crazy
3. Bugs can be aggressive in the few wooded holes, bring spray or a bat

Other Thoughts:

This course was just plain sweet in my opinion, the land given for the course was well utilized having several uphill, downhill shots and hole #7 is definately the signature hole, 375 uphill with the basket surronded by a brick wall type layout at the base. Would love to see this turned into 18.
If your in the area I highly reccomend checking this little gem out.
Kudos to the designer!

Nice addition to this NICE community. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 3, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

9 baskets in a nice community.

multiple tees (blue and red) on most of the holes.

considering how short some of the holes we're they're was still some challenging holes to be played. But I thought the DGC could even be more challenging than it was as they do have the room . But it's solid 9 hole DGC that hopefully will be heavily used by the Mc Comb and surrounding area.

I like how the hills we're used (# 2's basket and # 3 tee and # 7's basket)

Innova baskets

Cons:

kind of a short course for some tastes.

only 9 holes (I saw ample room for expansion).

# 9 could present problem as you do cross a walking path (But it's clearly recognized that the played should look both ways before throwing). And I thought since the basket does cross the walking path, why not put a sleeve on the other side of the small creek near where both creeks meet and put a basket there, with another hole coming back along the baseball diamond and towards the utility building or the area where an old bridge once stood).

Dirt tees

Didn't see any trash cans nor benches nor a kiosk for DG information to be posted.

only one or two trees on most of the holes.

Other Thoughts:

For a DG tourist like myself I thought the directions we're kinda misleading as hwy. 186 turns into Park rd. It's not a big deal in this small community but it could be noted just for us tourists or out of towner's.

Nice 9-Hole Getaway 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 13, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Compared with other nine hole courses that I've played (i.e. shawnee, ottawa park Lima, and Firestine Park Findlay), this one was the best. It is a nice stop for anyone traveling to another local course, or who just wants a quick round, this is a great course. It's not very intimidating to look at, but with some narrow fairways, and the reservoir in play, this course can cause some serious problems for seasoned players.

There is also a single hill on the course which was used nicely in the design. There aren't very many uphill shots in this part of Ohio so it was a nice change of pace.

Also, there are multiple tee locations so you can play 18 with some variation if you like.

Cons:

The course is small with short holes, and few trees on many of the holes.

Other Thoughts:

The body of the course is wide open with few trees, so bringing some water on a hot day is a must, especially if you plan to play 18.
