Typical Small-Town Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 23, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

LeTulle Park DGC is the only course for miles around, the nearest being on the outskirts of Houston. It's 18 holes, which is a big plus and makes a short day trip from Houston worth it. The course spans a big chunk of the park, but it's obvious where you need to start at when entering the park.

The disc golf itself utilized most of the park, from the wide open shots, to the low ceiling shorter holes and even a couple of water carries. I didn't feel any hole was super silly (though not all of the holes are perfect; more on that later). The hole distances were a good variety of shorter and longer. Any decent player should have the capability to "2" every hole out here every now and then

The baskets were Discatchers, and each hole had a tee sign with a colored map. It's obvious that someone took the time to research and design the course and put quite a bit of money into it. It's noticed.

Cons:

The first three holes are not fun holes. They are literally 450'+ holes with literally no obstacles and a 50% chance not mowed grass. Those really are the only holes I didn't enjoy at all.

I was under the impression that the course has evolved over time, and with that, the distances seem a little bit off, the tee signs are pointing the wrong direction, things like that. Navigation is not too difficult, but at places in the middle of the course, holes 8-12, there was a small amount of confusion on which basket I was throwing to. On that note, the Discathers have blue bands, which can be hard to see under the shade of the big oak trees scattered throughout.

Hole 14 and 15 play in the middle of camp sites, so there is a chance that campers will be posted up, making it impossible to play the holes safely.

Other Thoughts:

This was a course I had meaning to go down and play for quite some time. It didn't blow me away, but I didn't really expect it to. It's just a typical small-town course that has fun sprinkled with a whole lot of average.

You'll really have to go out of your way to bag this course as it't not really between two destination areas maybe except Corpus and Houston. Still, if you find yourself in Bay City, come and play a quick one.

Pros:

Fun course to throw through old growth trees. Nice city park setting. Navigation is relatively easy. Minimal "roughs" because the park is so well maintained.

Cons:

Confusing as to where the best place to park to play.

Many Good Holes, Some Problems 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 30, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a beautiful city park with lush mowed grass and beautiful old moss-draped live oak trees. Very little brush or low-growing shrubs.

Most of the holes play through large, overhanging live oak trees and around two small lakes. There is very little elevation, but plenty of trees that require you to shape your drive, and in many cases keep it low beneath the limbs.

Hole lengths vary from 190' to 442', with most in the 200' - 300' range. Lakes are in play on holes 13, 14, 17 and 18 but each has an available route that allows you to avoid getting wet.

Brand new baskets that catch great but are hard to see (see cons). Very nice tee signs with good information and a nice map, but a terrible font (see cons).

Cons:

The first three holes are bad. The course begins in a huge grass field with a triangle of holes. There are no trees, no elevation, no anything. Just a boring start.

The new Innova baskets have navy blue top bands. I think that this is keeping with the "Bay City" theme, but unfortunately they are difficult to spot in the shadows. Worse, the basket numbers are black and you need to be within about 5' of the basket to read them White numbers would have worked beautifully.

The font on the tee signs is the hardest to read that I have ever seen. It is very exaggerated, so the "3" ends up looking like "B" and some numbers run together. Hard to make out hole distances.

A few of the signs do not point in correct direction. It appears that they were set by someone who didn't know the course. The Hole 5 sign is nearly 180 degrees off, and actually points toward the baskets for Holes 8 & 10. I played to the Hole 8 basket, went back to try again, and realized that I needed to turn completely around and throw back the other direction.

No tee pads or markers. Just lush mowed grass next to a tee sign. With more play a particular area may become apparent, but for now you just choose a spot and go.

Other Thoughts:

Several choices for parking. You can park near Hole 1, 9, or 14. There is a restroom near the first tee. The restroom near Hole 15 has been boarded up.

A few of the holes play over or near the main park road. I used it for a couple of skip shots, but traffic could be an issue on busy days.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 25, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Really cool old-growth trees, wish they could have been incorporated more into the course. But then they probably would have been damaged, and that would make me sad. Water comes into play on several holes, and while it doesn't look deep, I am not going in there for a disc.
Mostly short holes, not too many obstacles. You could probably play this whole course with a mid-range and a putter.

Cons:

Some of the baskets are in disrepair, and hole 3 was missing a tee sign. No tee pads to be had, so the mud added to the adventure. I went face down on hole 2. Holes 2, 3, and 4 seemed out of place. Just wide open freshly mowed field. Kinda boring.

Other Thoughts:

This is a beautiful park, and the round was enjoyable. I would recommend this course for beginners, while intermediate and advanced might get bored. Not a lot of variety of shots needed, or huge distance. Hole 18 forces you to carry the water, but it's only 190 feet, so only a challenge to a beginner.

Love the wildlife 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 1, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

* Lots of beautiful trees.
* Tons of wildlife.
* Nice mix of holes, technical and wide open.
* Clearly marked signs showing you your current hole, and where to find the next tee.
* Large spread out course, not cramped like many 18 hole courses.
* there are 2 maps of the course!

Cons:

* Targets only have 1 set of chains and we had a couple of bounce outs because of it.
* It could be mowed more often - I had to pick the stickers out of my shoes several times!

Other Thoughts:

I really liked this course, it's about 45 minutes from my house - and I'm willing to drive it to play even though there are 3 courses closer to me! It's a beautiful park, TONS of wildlife (ducks, geese, rabbits, bull frogs, turtles, etc.) Several ponds, volleyball court, horse shoes, and lots of picnic tables and trashcans. All Par 3's except for one Par 4, and there is a mix of possible ace's and technical throws through the trees.

Letulle Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 27, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Only full course in the area. (Lake Texana has a course that plays backwards.)
Good use of park
Lots of shade
Not many other patrons walking through fairways.
Good signs and 2 maps. Entrance and Hole 1

Cons:

Leaves little to imagination
3 "Field" Holes
Lots of straight shots
No defined teeboxes

Other Thoughts:

This course has potential if tee boxes are added. Some holes leave you wondering where to throw from. It does seem that it was designed by some one who does not play as so many holes are dead straight. Many of these hole would benefit from simply moving the basket to the left or right. Also after hole twelve there are 6 consecutive short holes where only a putter is needed. I will definitely be playing this course again due to the limited availability in the area but will not suggest someone drive from say Houston simply to play it. If you are passing through Matagorda County this is would be a nice stop, however.

Fun... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 28, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Tees are very well marked with signs that show the holes, and they were all accurate. There were many different types of holes. Nobody was there when we were there... Good use of the entire park. Relatively short course, you can play it in 40 minutes...

Cons:

There is a par 4...I am very much against having par 4's...Especially when the par 4 is only 465 feet AND in an open field. Not necessary... As a matter of fact there were 3 or 4 holes that were completely open, no hazard, no tree, nothing...no imagination needed. I would have also like to see tee boxes of some sort.

Other Thoughts:

We drove 40 miles to play this course, I will drive that again to play it when time allows. I am not saying that this is a destination course, but something about it was just fun...Most of the holes if not all are aceable. I actually hit the chains from the tee on 18...(so close). It seemed like all of the holes were 300 feet, and if that is a comfortable distance for you to throw then you are in for a fun day. I can imagine that during the warmer months you would need mosquito spray, so bring it...You do have to throw over water on a few holes and near water on a few more...HAVE FUN!!!

Decent 18 Hole Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 2, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

A beautiful park with loads of great trees and a decent amount of elevation changes. Most of the holes aren't too difficult by today's standards. Some of them are pretty short and will offer seasoned disc golfers ample ace opportunities. A great beginners course located in a fantastic park.

The restroom at the ball golf club house is the single best disc golf course restroom I have ever found. The course gets a full star on my review just for the fantastic restrooms.

Cons:

The baskets are all DISCatcher Sport baskets; a basket more suited to backyard practice instead of a full fledged 18 hole course. The single row of chains just doesn't catch as well as the full-on DISCatcher.

The tee boxes we could find are very small and not well marked. Most of the holes have a straight shot from the tee with only a handful offering any sort of line you'll have to follow.

The course could make better use of the pond and elevation changes. I get the feeling that there is potential for a much better course in this park.

Other Thoughts:

This course is about as hard as Houston's Agness Moffit but in a much nicer park. The course could be improved with more thought put into the tee box locations. There just are not enough challenging holes for today's game of disc golf.
