Short and technical, often a little confusing

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 2, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is a shorter, 18 hole course that overlaps with the longer 27 hole Black Course. Some tee pads and baskets are shared
-Heavy trees forces technical shot shaping
-Short distances allow for beginners to have a shot at par
-Concrete tee pads
-Tee signs for all holes
-Baskets are discatchers, a few look pretty ancient and require a gentle touch when putting
-A few holes are right against Twin Creek, so so serious water hazard makes play quite interesting
-No running water or toilets, but there are porta-johns most of the year
-The upkeep of the course has been much better recently. The rough has been more forgiving and allows for a more relaxed round

Cons:

-Tee signs are often inaccurate
-Some baskets are missing (Udisc shows distance to other basket for the Black Course)
-Overlapping of baskets and tees can lead to some minor conflicts with other groups. Some patience and grace goes a long way
-A few holes feel more like Plinko, since you just have to send a drive through a wall of trees and hope for the best.
-Flooding can be a legitimate concern on this course, a couple time each year the entire course can be underwater

Other Thoughts:

This is a fun tight and technical course. While it is a fairly short course, because of the water hazards, tight lanes, and heavy population of large trees it is not the best course for first time disc golfers. This is one of the courses I like to bring beginners that are building consistency, as controlled drives from the tee box can lead to birdies for any power level, but still punish experienced players the same. I would love updated maps to reflect the missing baskets, but overall an enjoyable course. Make sure to check out the other layout as well!

Could be better 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 23, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Gives you a chance to learn to throw different types of shots. You get to develop your short game. Can easily play this course in under an hour. You can play this course with a putter and a few mid ranges.

Cons:

Too many short holes. The fact it shares tee-pads and baskets with the black course can make it very confusing and frustrating. Holes are close together so there's a chance someone will be in your way while you are shooting. There was trash all over the course

Other Thoughts:

This course definitely looked better in the pictures. Can't say I'd go out of my way to play this one again. There's a lot of nice land out here so maybe they will put in a few others. If you live close by, it's a course worth playing. If you are more than 20 minutes away, save your gas.

Intro To Wooded, Technical Golf 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 9, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The Twin Creek Red Course is a great place to introduce beginners to wooded, technical design, as the short length keeps the focus on accuracy over distance. Largely, the layout is stepped in difficulty, allowing beginners some early birdie opportunities while later building them up to more challenging holes that will test their placement ability. The course is at its best for more advanced players in these later holes, where some fundamental strategy can keep everyone engaged.

Routing is largely intuitive, aided by wooden next tee arrows hung to the bottom of the Innova baskets. Baskets are clearly labeled with colored stripes, so you know whether you're playing the Red Course or the Black Course. A few Red Course baskets are stand-alone in the earlier holes, but most are shared with the Black.

The concrete tee pads are adequate, and feature simple, color-coded tee posts giving both Red & Black distance.

The sandy bottom means the course drains and dries fairly well for a wooded course under normal weather conditions. The lack of true "muck" is very welcome.

Cons:

Ultimately, the Red Course is short and not very difficult, and will largely bore passable Rec players and beyond. Most holes here clock in at around sub-200 feet, with a large handful at less than 160. For the majority of players, the Red Course can serve as a 30-40 minute above-average warm-up to the more challenging 27 hole Black Course.

While the creekside setting sounds nice, it's largely squandered by the litter, broken glass, and natural debris strewn about the course. Every round looks like it's being played after a storm, and there's a sense (whether fair or not) that the course is not particularly well-maintained.

There's no map on the tee posts, and with a number of blind pins on the back 9 a first-timer will end up walking down the fairway a few times.

Other Thoughts:

As you enter the park, drive toward the basketball courts and park near them. Hole 1 begins just inside the tree line beyond the final court.

Red Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 18, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

I am a beginner player having just started in October of 2012 and I chose this course because I don't have a whole lot of distance yet. I really liked the course because on almost every hole I had a good birdie opportunity when palying as a par 3. As others have stated, the course is loaded with tress making line selection very important. I had no trouble reaching the basket if I didn't ricocet off of tree. If this course was closer to me I would play in all the time.

Cons:

Brcause the course is in the woods alongside a creek it can be very muddy at times. It was muddy when I played. The mud is the kind that sticks to your shoes. I was constantly kicking trees to get the mud off my shoes. Also watch out for the local police. The road the park is on has a 25 mph speed limit and I got pulled over on my way home. Fortunately he let me off with a warning.

The easy one 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 19, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Twin Creek's Red course is short enough and plenty fun enough to introduce beginners to the challenge of shaping lines in and among the trees, without becoming overly daunting. This park and the Dayton area disc golf community have done a really nice job of preserving this course while blending in a much more challenging, longer (the Black) course in the same area.

Signage here is incredibly well done: simple posts are painted red and/or black (as are the 'chastity belts" on the Discatcher baskets), so you can just play by color. Distances are clearly marked. Wooden 'next tee' arrows hanging under the baskets are likewise color coded, and there are other signs when needed. Tees are concrete and well-sized for the distances. There are trash receptacles, and an occasional downed tree serves as a bench.

Located in a large park that features ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, a walking trail, a nature preserve, a playground, port-o-lets, and ample parking, the DG course(s) use the woods adjoining a beautiful creek, so there is no overlap with other park activities.

The Red course begins with a front nine averaging around 150' per hole, while the back nine start to stretch it out a little further (200-250'), so true beginners could choose to play the first nine and keep their self-esteem high. One of the trickiest holes might be #11, which has a blind pin position from the tee, with the creek running by only 25-30' to its right.

Cons:

The naturally sandy soil along the creek can become unexpectedly slippery underfoot when overly wet OR dry, and the relatively heavy foot traffic makes for some muddy paths and fairways.

Players above the Rec level won't find much of a challenge on the Red course, and should opt to play the Black.

Other Thoughts:

Located just southeast of Germantown, OH, this course is a little bit remote, having few major roads coming over (directly) this way off of the interstate, so you'd be well-advised to print a map of the area or use a GPS to get there.

Red Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 18, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Nice, 18 hole Wood course, with some easy shots and long drives near lots of trees. can complete in an hour or less.

Cons:

Not a lot of long drives in the first 9 holes or so, but nice scenery near the creek.

Other Thoughts:

Can probably do the Red course with mid range and putter the whole course, but bring a driver just in case. Has sand for the ground for a lot of holes.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 11, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Lots of trees so it forces you to stay low and try some shots you wouldn't take many other times.
It is along a river with a great scenery all around.
Very clean course with only a few pieces of broken glass in 1 rocky spot.

Cons:

The course is really short if you're playing just the red baskets.
Its a natural flood plain so in the spring time if it has rained in the past day its going to be a little muddy/sandy mix.
A few holes are right along a river and you even end right in front of a drop of on a hole. It is easy to carelessly loose a disc here in some spots.

Other Thoughts:

Overall a ok course. I would never play red on its own now that the black tees have been added to make a 27 hole course. If you only have time for a quick 30 min game though. I would suggest this course.

New & Improved in 2011 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 21, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Course is in a beautiful natural setting beside the Twin Creek under a canopy of mature trees (total shade is nice on very hot, sunny days). Fairways are tight and pins are guarded, but there is "lane" to every basket if you look for it. A wide variety of shots are required to navigate through the woods. Short course is great for families, beginners, and practicing your finesse game. Tee pads are concrete and in good shape (damaged pads have recently been replaced). New pin placements in 2011 have added length and challenge. Twelve new holes added (between Red #11 & #12) in August 2011 to create 27-hole Black Course. Flow is fairly straightforward and easy to follow.

Cons:

There are not any holes on Red Course to really let one rip (longer holes (#7 through #11) still require precise flight-lines). Permanent signs are not yet present due to on-going redesign phase. Stinging nettles in most underbrush add an extra penalty to errant shots. Littering is an issue in some areas due to lack of waste receptacles.

Other Thoughts:

Have some bug-repellant handy if necessary. Knowledge of indigenous plant life a plus: avoid the poison ivy, oak, sumac and stinging nettles (leaves of three - let them be). Marked football field next to course nice to practice distance drivers. New 27-hole Black Course includes 12 new holes between 288 to 444 feet (6881 ft total) for longer arms. Plenty of parking and port-a-pots are available.

Twincreek disc golf course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 26, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course can be quite a challege if you play it as a par 2 course, as the fairways are very short but thick with trees. The terrain is fairly flat and runs down a creek bottem. 18 hole course.

Cons:

Very short fairways. The whole course is in the woods and many fairway loaded with trees.

Other Thoughts:

They are working on a new course next to the old one and it looks like it may be a better course
