Granbury City 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 21, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-- Mostly disc golf only land. Nos. 1 and 2 are near softball fields, and there is a walking path, but you don't see many folks on the course who are not playing disc golf.
-- Concrete tee pads, although they are different lengths and widths.
-- Multiple pin locations.
-- 22 holes.
-- Seating. There aren't a lot of actual benches, but there are large stones/boulders and some tree limbs (some with actual seats cut into them).
-- Restrooms and water near at the softball fields, but the restrooms might only be open when the fields are in use.
-- With the multiple pin locations, there are options for length. Seven holes can be longer than 500 feet.

Cons:

-- Difficult to navigate without a map. Frequently what is intuitive as the next hole is not, in fact, the next hole. And frequently the direct route from one hole to the next takes you through another fairway (or at least between the basket and the tee).
-- Poor signs. The signs are very old. Some are faded badly. Factor in added pin positions (up to five on some holes) that are written in by hand, and you've got a mess.
-- With that many pin positions, it is really difficult to know which pin is in use.
-- There is frequently very little real risk of losing a disc, but some of the long positions are pretty close to water. One water carry is the only real chance of losing a disc other than that.
-- RHBH dominant course, but many of the hole offer a LHBH option.
-- Some holes have mandos for safety reasons; other times, you've got long walks between holes.
-- A stretch of holes in the middle (7-12) is pretty flat and open with only a few trees.

Other Thoughts:

-- The official parking lot is on Moore Street, but you can park on Crossland Road (at the skate park) and walk under the railroad tracks and start on No. 3.

Granbury DGC 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 15, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nicely kept grounds actually outstanding. The "rough" consists of maybe ankle high grass when I played. Baskets all in excellent shape. Nice concrete pads multiple pin positions. Some elevation change cart friendly. Water is in play on several holes due to ponds and a creek or two which winds through the course.
This course can appeal to most players unless highly technical shots are your thing. Enough of a challenge to let advanced player enjoy.

Cons:

The only obvious negative is signage not that it's bad especially but # 1 tee has the sign for #5. I was using Udisc and it was obvious but there was a couple there to play and they didn't have the app. I helped them and they seemed to follow the course after that.
One other little note I would even call it a Con but I went by just to check out the course and there were baseball playoffs going so no place to park but that's a special event.

Other Thoughts:

Definitely made my list of courses to play again and maybe catch the Granbury Open sometime.
I plan to play again tomorrow may update if I do so.

Passing Through 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 21, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Concrete tee pads.
-Multiple pin locations.
-22 individual holes that can be played.
-Well kept park
-Plenty of trash receptacles.

Cons:

-Difficult to navigate without a map.
-Difficult to know which pin is in use.
-There is very little real risk on the course.
-RHBH dominant course, but there was at least some technical challenge and relief for lefties.

Other Thoughts:

I had a great round at this course (for me.) It is always nice to try somewhere new, and this course was good for a stress free round where you can stretch out your driving arm a little.

Before I get into this, I sometimes dwell on what can be improved. I want to repeat that this was a fun place to play in case I get too negative.

Navigation for non-locals is difficult. You can see multiple goals and tee boxes, and while some did make sense, others did not. Having a map on hand was critical. Beware of hole 6B. It has been wedged between 6 and 7, and it threw me for a loop for a few minutes.

The course is placed in a city park, and it tries to use what is available for obstacles. There just isn't too much available. The water holes are half full at best and empty in many cases. The trees that are there are used, but it is very clear underneath them. Some of the drives were technical, but recovery was a breeze for errant throws.

I loved that there were multiple pin locations, but there was little chance an out-of-towner like myself would know what pin location was in use by using the low detail tee box graphics. I was lucky to have my range finder, or else I would have totally been off on distances. The tee signs had all the lengths there, but there were 5 different distances written on some of the tee signs so it was hard to discern which was in play.

The current pin location was hard to find on Hole 9 because it was tucked behind a huge tree. I almost threw to the wrong goal as a result. I had trouble finding goals on other holes as well. Having a map helped here and it can be figured out.

Overall, I give this course a 3. It could go to a 3.5 or even maybe a 4 if the issues above were corrected, but courses do not need to be 5 stars to be fun. I definitely recommend stopping to play if you are passing through, but bring a map.

Bogies are My Par 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 16, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a fun course! Good variety of shots. Pecans all over the ground are great for snacking. Just enough trees to make things challenging on some holes, but not so many that you have to get a machete to find your drives like some other monster courses. plenty of shade. Park benches well placed. Driving range.

Cons:

Not many. I'm grasping to find anything. I love this course.

Signage maybe could use an upgrade.
Maybe some arrows for next tee could help improve flow.

Other Thoughts:

I love this course! Great for a less than average player like myself. I struggle to make par on most holes, but I have a shot at it every time. I love that it's a maintained park. I always bring nut crackers with me when I'm there. The pecans are amazing!

Well worth the drive every couple of months.

A little hot watch for snakes 2+ years

Pros:

This is a great course with 22 holes if you count 6a and 6b. Some different variety. Lots of holes that you get to throw with all your might. Trees are mostly only in play near basket.

Cons:

It gets hot out there. Not alot of shade and the course covers alot of ground. Also saw a few signs of rattle snakes. Skins and such so be careful

Other Thoughts:

Some good wild life cranes hawks etc. Fun course. Some neat rock and carvings the locals have done

Bury Nice 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 1, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Very good course.
Solid Tees.
Good baskets with added chains.
Course map at hole 1.
Tee signs mainly for hole numbers.
Decent flow. (Take a picture of map at hole one.)
Large mixture of shots.
Multiple routes on majority of holes.
Good use of the land and elevation.
Some very solid basket locations.
Depending on location a lot of risk reward shots
Multiple pin locations. At least 3 per hole.
Very well maintained. No rough.
Good course to work on distance.
Driving Range distance marked with large rocks.
Practice basket when entering the area.

Cons:

Big arm course.
Not much use for a Mid off the tees.
Very Right hand friendly but has options.
No rough.
With the multiple pins some baskets don't line up with tees.
Flow is not the best.
Signs need updating / new signs.

Other Thoughts:

Really like the course.
Highly recommend play the course.
Very well maintained.
Course needs just a few added touches and upgrades.
It's nice that the course is by itself but it hides from the non throwers and keeps others from discovering the game.

I love Granbury 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 24, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Cement tee boxes for every hole
T-signs on every hole with a crude map and arrow to next tee.
Baskets have an extra few chains added to make them catch better.
Driving range with distance markers
Park is Disc Golf only, your not going to have very many non disc golfers in this park. It is away from the parking lot and surrounded by farm land and the railroad tracks.
Course map near hole 1.

Cons:

Cement tee boxes are almost long enough, but not nearly wide enough.
Several of the holes are basically wide open

Other Thoughts:

The park is nice but there are not enough tree's to make all the holes out there interesting. I would say it was about 1/3 wide open shots with only a tree or two, then maybe 1/3 with enough tree's to make it interesting, then the last 1/3 makes good use of the trees to define fairways.

The course is relatively flat, at most there is maybe a 10 ft elevation change on a few of the holes.

when I played, all the holes were in the shorts. That was very cool for me, not a fan of long holes. Most of the holes have 3 pins, some only have 2 and I saw at least one that had 4. Several of the alts would change up the hole, but a negative is the tee pad is so narrow, you can't throw the angle needed without starting off the side of the pad.

Best part of Granbury course is visiting Granbury, you need to go walk around downtown.

Superbly Maintained! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 4, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

No weeds to chase your discs - completely open with only trees as obstacles.
This is a course for big arm players. Lot's of birdies if you have the distance and can putt well.
If you are left-handed or throw a great sidearm (right-handed) this is the course for you.
Multiple tee locations (up to 3 per hole).

Cons:

Not marked well between holes. It would have taken me a lot longer if I hadn't been with a local group.

Other Thoughts:

This is one of the best kept secrets in the area. NOT very busy, either.
Thanks to Rob, who works for the city, and has a special interest in the course.

Love this course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 18, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

* I'm not a big fan of the heavy tree courses and this course gives reasonable alleys with enough trees to create problems.
*Well kept - this course is a work of love for someone probably connected with the park and rec department - usually mowed, lots of trash cans that get emptied
*they have 2 or three basket location on most holes for variety - gives a good mix for some real long holes and some birdie possibilities
* back to the work of love - it has a driving range with stones to mark distance and a putting basket to warm up on

Cons:

* the course plays much tougher with water - great holes over water - there's just no water right now
*a few holes (like 3) are too open - just grip and rip
*sequence could get iffy in a few spots - they do have it signed well and the basket is pained in the direction you should go next.

Other Thoughts:

Love this course. It really is a must if your hitting all the courses in the area.

Good overall 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 21, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Well kept

Cons:

-Some pins and boxes too close together through the middle of the course.
-Short and skinny teepads!!

Other Thoughts:

A walking path is present near 1&2, should be a non issue, just know it is present. Road and train tracks near 2&3, road has moderate traffic, don't get distracted! Decent use of elevation but could be better. Flows nicely, but there is one spot where you could walk to the wrong next box. The park is big enough where there should be no crowding but there is on a few which was a design flaw. Overall the signs were very accurate, very easy to read and follow. After 3&6 (I believe) there are some hand painted signs to direct to the next box but between 6&7 that sign could certainly be bigger/more visible. Fairly easy course that should yield plenty of birdies and few bogies, probably none. Good course overall and if your passing through I would recommend giving it a go.

***I left out one very important thing. For me having good teepads is very near the top of my requirements for a good course. The pads here are concrete but they are short and skinny! I have stepped off the end of them lots of times and it messes up your release and if your not careful could lead to an ankle/knee injury. There are a few tee boxes that are longer and wider but most are short and skinny, which suggests poor planning or something of the sort.

"Shorts" review 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 20, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

*concrete tees
*tee signs
*rough not too bad
*flow is not to bad. Made my way around without a map or playing before
*spacious land
*multiple pin locations
*elevation change. But felt like it could of been used better.

Cons:

*seemed very right hand back hand friendly-I would say over 75 percent or higher are right side open to entrance or left side blocked by trees
*only hole that really felt special was 17 and if pin was 30 feet more left this could be a really special hole
*16 seemed confusing with multiple baskets in area. Threw down to 20 thinking that is what sign meant.

Other Thoughts:

There is nothing really bad or just outstanding about the course. It does it job. This is just a review of the shorts. It almost felt like the people who put in course were all rhbh throwers and threw shots and said ok. Lets put it there.

Nice Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 24, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course has a variety of different holes, with trees, mild elevation change, and a few water hazards. It seems to be well maintained, and it has a generally nice setting to it. Most of the holes have some sort o signage now.

Cons:

There are a few places the holes don't flow logically, so you'll want a map. There is a nice one at the sign by the first hole, take a pic of it with your smart phone and you'll be in good shape.

Other Thoughts:

Most of the holes are over 400', although there are a bit shorter. You'll need to throw 250' to 300' consistantly to par the course.
It looks like they're working on adding a 21st hole to the course.

Granbury City DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 21, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course is long and challenging, the summer heat definitely takes its toll on you. I really like the variety of shots and the challenge of having to deal with the wind. I also really liked how the holes started very open and progressively got tighter which gives you time to find your groove. Conrete tee pads are nice and baskets in good shape.

Cons:

I wish every hole had tee signs to make the course a little bit easier to navigate, they do have a chain painted pointeing the direction to go but it would make navigation a little easier. The course is a little hard to find if you have never been there before because i didnt know i needed to go under that bridge and to the left for the first tee.

Other Thoughts:

The course is definitely worth the drive i really enjoyed it.

nice course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 30, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

-great flow to the layout, very cool park
-has nice terrain to work with, despite the limited number of trees, there are subtle rolling hills and a few small ponds
-nice concrete tees and good signs
-good variety of distance, open & tighter fairways, left & right turning shots
-small ponds in play on a few holes
-park has trash cans and benches near the entrance
-plenty of parking
-practice basket

Cons:

-makes good use of limited trees but there is very little shade on the course, it gets hot out here
-some holes are just wide open, with perhaps one tree as an obstacle
-lots of open shots can get repetitive
-for a longer course, no real par 4 holes

Other Thoughts:

***New Update***
This course has really matured. It's now 21 holes but the old hole 20 (i think?) is now hole 1 (old hole 1 is now hole 3). One of the new holes across a little pond is fun. Good community of local golfers too.
*****

***Update***
Now an 18 hole course with a 19th hole that sometimes has a basket. Concrete on all the shorts, none on the longs. The new holes are great additions and a few are pretty challenging with distance and lots of obstacles. Great job!
*****

This is a fun course that is beginner friendly but still fun and challenging for int/adv level players. The park is nice and the signs, tees, and baskets are in great condition and well installed.

The first four holes are pretty much wide open. The first is flat and the next three play over some rolling hills. Hole 5 is a fun left-to-right fairway with a small elevation drop and Hole 6 plays over a pond and into a grove of trees. Hole 7 is my favorite with deep rolling hills and a channel of trees to navigate. Holes 8 and 9 have wide fairways but with some ceiling or tree obstacles.

Even though some of the holes are longer (1,8,9) beginners should have an easy time as there are no tight woods or thick underbrush; easy to keep it in the fairway. Just watch out for the water.

Looks like there is plenty of room to expand and there has already been an 18 hole layout for a tournament. I expect a full 18 holes lies in this course's future. A great course to introduce disc golf to the local area and promote the sport.
