Almost Perfect

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 18, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Two poured tees and some multiple baskets / positions that make for replayability

+ Short tees are marked with red blocks and they aren't paved, but they're positioned to make this tough course playable for beginners / short throwers

+ OB and water: a small stream with steep banks that runs through the center of the course, affecting several holes. Elevation changes on most holes

+ Dogleg directions and angles change up frequently. You will need to shape your throws right-to-left and left-to-right throughout the round

So many great holes, a few of the most notable:

From the white tee, Hole #2 is a short but vicious right dogleg that plays straight downhill to a basket at the edge of the creekbank

Hole #4 is a short par 4 that requires an uphill teeshot around a left dogleg. The two baskets are separated by a small ravine. The short basket is at the bottom and requires touch landing; the long basket is up on the far side of the ravine, making the hole play very differently

Big hole #13 with three tees and three baskets - all the way out to a 938' par 5

Hole #15 uphill and to the right even though it's only 210' from the whites and 253' from the blues, the course requires power late in the round, after tiring you out from walking up and down these hills

Hole #17 is a shortish par 4 across a big ravine, but it has lines of retaining walls to stop a disc that doesn't make it across, and a grove of spindly trees at the top to mess with those that do

Cons:

- As other reviewers have mentioned, the rough and foliage are very thick. Throwing lines are really tightened up during leaf season (the most dramatic is how small the window becomes on the short dogleg left over the stream on #7). I have played the course during several seasons, and I don't think there's anything unfair in July, but play is a lot less stressful in November

- The one real flaw in the layout is hole #14: a straight, downhill par 3 that plays along a walking trail, where hikers approaching from beyond the basket will be invisible from the tee - and can face head-on teeshots aiming for ace runs. It's a fun hole (and fine to play when you don't have to worry about hikers), but it's dangerous - and I'm surprised that it even exists at all

Other Thoughts:

~ In addition to the detailed signage, the back corner of each poured tee is painted with a small blue or white triangle, confirming which tee you're playing from. One really nice touch is that several of the tee signs have numbers on their backs - anticipating that you'll be approaching them from that direction and reassuring you that you're headed the right way. Lots of good course infrastructure including benches and sturdy footbridges across that damned stream (it's a fine stream, but it's the cause of my 2 OB penalties).

~ The starting holes aren't ideal: a fairly dull opener, followed by some short doglegs that make you think this course is going to be all about sharp corners up and down hills. Then you get to #6, which is a wide open, downhill 453' par 3 from the whites, and a 655' par 4 from the back tees

~ I was a little surprised by the low overall average DGCR rating. While there are a few flaws that keep Coyote Hills from being a perfect 5.0, the course has the ability to be both very tough and very replayable. I give my highest scores and praise to those few courses that I could see myself replaying and enjoying for days or weeks straight. Coyote Hills meets that test for me.

Coyote Hills For Honing Skills

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 18, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Tee signs are colorful and easy to understand.
+ Numbered baskets have different colored tape on their spokes to point the way to the next tee.
+ Fairways are mostly wooded challenges with some generous elevation and a few water features.
+ Tee pads are long, wide, sturdy and flat concrete with painted corners.
+ Information board, practice basket and scorecards, but...

Cons:

- ...No lost disc box? Did I walk right past it and not notice?
- More than a few safety hazards in terms of exposed roots, steep walks, and somewhat blind throws.
- Most holes have crazy roughage areas.
- Some of the holes felt interchangeable.

Other Thoughts:

I didn't like hole1 because it was too straightforward and featureless. I didn't like hole13 because of the jungle of undergrowth at the bottom of its valley, which of course I landed in. (Yes, that second one is purely personal.) Hole4 was pretty fun to play with its slanted uphill drive, dogleg left as it flattens and then valley finish all within the woods. I thought hole17 was the nicest to look at. I don't often see a high multi-tiered bunker pyramid behind a stream after throwing through a semi-open field. The biggest surprise was hole7. A striking downhill tee-off through some dense woods over a stream and onto a slim fairway was just the unexpected jolt that livened up the course for me.

Coyote Hills as a whole has a lot in its favor, but it's kind of exhausting. 'Too much of a good thing' came to my mind once or twice while playing here. I love hilly wooded courses. Coyote's hills are noticeable without being daunting, but maybe the wooded part is taken too seriously. Holes14-16 are lots of fun or irritating, depending on the player's relationship with the trees. Same with holes10 and 11. And even though I personally loved playing hole7, I can easily understand why someone else would hate it. Tons of trees. Maybe I made a mistake by playing here just as summer was starting. Everything was lush and green.

That actually brings me to the issue of Coyote's rough and undergrowth. On most holes the player must be super accurate or use less power because one bad ricochet off one of the many trees will end in headache. Could be throrns, snaggy twigs, dense and gnarled hedges or a mix. Some would find this course irritating for that reason alone. Still, despite how prolific the undergrowth wants to be, the club here is doing a nice job keeping things from getting too out of control. The fairways are very well upkept and obvious with any OB signified by a rope.

So, in summation, I've had a few complaints, but Coyote Hills is definitely worth a visit. Take your time aiming or just resort to shorter throws if the ubiquitous trees and rough make you nervous. There is a peaceful and harmless stream to avoid. There are some hills to conquer. And there are some open holes to serve as a kind of intermission. Some players may find the tree and elevation combinations to be a bit unreasonable, and I don't think that true beginners would enjoy this course too much. I definitely enjoyed it enough to give it a healthy recommendation, but I won't take it personally if you swear it off forever.

Lots to like (and dislike)

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 3, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Teeboxes are flush to the ground and large (unless you're playing the reds)
The course routes back to the parking lot after #9, and really you're never very far away from your car, even though you feel like you are. It's easy to play a few holes or all 18.
There are several very exciting holes here and numerous birdies are possible.
While the corridors are excessively narrow at times, the woods are pretty cleared out. So if you go off the fairway you're still in relatively maintained areas.
The tee signs tell you how far it is to the corners of the doglegs (and there are a lot of doglegs)

Cons:

There are 3 sort of dull holes too.
Too many plinko type holes where you just throw into a grove of trees and hope for the best. If you see a short hole on the card, rest assured you're just throwing into trees.
some of the paths to the next hole are a little muddy and slippery.
If you mostly play Innova discs, your Leopard is going to get a serious workout, as it is silly to try to throw more than that off many tees.

Other Thoughts:

It's a good course that I want to like more than I do. I think the main problem is the course has such a promising beginning, but then it just piles on too much so that by the end you're kind of exhausted and disappointed, particularly if you're playing the blue tees to the far baskets. One is a serviceable starting hole, mostly in a field with a bunch of OB, then you play a series of jagged holes in the woods that are easy birdies IF you can throw it 250 feet down a corridor no wider than the tee box. You can air it out again on a long downhill par 3 around a cell phone tower, then back to the woods. #9 finishes close to #1 tee and by now you're probably excited to see what the back 9 has to offer. Unfortunately all it offers are narrower corridors requiring longer shots to reach the corner. The only wide hole is a 920 foot mostly uphill par 5. The overall sensation is like being in one of those movies where the ceiling or walls are closing in slowly on the main characters, as they yell for help. After a series of punishments, you reach #17 with it's hillside fortress basket and say "wow!" that's pretty cool and wonderful, and it is a great and fun drivable par 4. But then you reach 18 tee and look down a chute barely any wider than your disc, and the sign says 400 feet par 3 and you're back to reality. If you can throw a forehand that turns right after 250 feet, then back left after 350 feet, maybe you'll be somewhere near the basket in 1. Most people though, take your 5 or 6 and stomp to the car in a huff. This is a course where you're not missing much if you play the whites instead of the blues. In fact, the white tees give you more options from the tee, and is more exciting. I also wouldn't say that this course is "very hilly" although most holes do have some hills. There aren't any 200 foot climbs though.

Plenty of chances, but hard to master. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 14, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Incredibly thoughtful course design. Full of little amenities and architecture throughout, clearly the club puts the hours and passion in.

The holes themselves from the medium tees are difficult enough to provide a challenge to anyone, but short enough and the pars are appropriate that you can get some birdies IF you're hitting your lines and staying in the fairway. If not, watch out.

There are also short and long options for each hole, sometimes via multiple tees, sometimes via multiple baskets.

Beautiful wooded scenery and picturesque greens, throughout, with Holes 2, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 17, and 18 particularly beautiful (almost too many to list!).

There's a few streams running throughout, some of which are OB, some casual. None of which will cause you to lose your disc.

Putting practice basket and driving practice field next to hole 1.

Cons:

Hole 1 undersells the rest of the course, a long open turnover shot alongside a baseball field that is OB but often full of young sluggers and parents.

Especially in the summer, the rough is intense. It's easy to lose your disc with an errant throw on much of the back 9. I've lost a few on 18 in particular. Luckily local folks are great about putting found discs in the lost disc slot and you can pick them up on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The rough opens up a bit in the winter without the greenery, but there are still plenty of prickles and briars, so you may emerge with some cuts if you manage to recover your disc.

The course hole to hole is never boring with diverse shot shapes, a couple ace runs, some bombers, everything you could ask for. The only place where I might quibble with the design is holes 15 and 16, both of which are narrow uphill straight shots. Coming right after each other they feel a bit redundant. Play 16 to the long basket for a bit of variety.

Other Thoughts:

All around a stupendous course I would play every day if I could. Great spot for the local community with a passionate and hardworking club. Combine it with nearby Forest Hills course across town for a totally different (wide open bomber with elevation) 2 course day trip!

Hole 1 is a long lazy turnover RHBH down an open fairway into a protected green.
Hole 2 is a straight shot through a beautiful long tunnel and then a tricky shot over or around a ravine (which I always end up in).
Hole 3 is a careful turnover or forehand downhill but blind from the tee, it's right there to run but go long and you'll get wet for sure.
Hole 4 is a super short par 4 but you'll need to be precise in your landing zones to get the birdie, first throw's steeply uphill and your approach better not skid down the other side of the hill too far!
Hole 5 is a gettable forehand or turnover play, though the local route is a tomahawk right at the basket.
Hole 6 is a downhill bomber par 3, throw it and watch it fly! Just don't end up in the maintenance fence, though there are some disc retrievers there to help you out.
Hole 7 is an ace run shot across a winding creek.
Hole 8 is a beautiful fairway with a blind turnover onto an elevated basket.
Hole 9 is so tricky, get a forehand across the river and up the hill and maybe you can jump putt from 50 for the birdie?
Hole 10 is gorgeous, a long turnover through the trees, across the river and the hiking trail, and then fading back at the end to the gentle hilly green.
Hole 11 better keep your hyzer low to maximize glide and skip to get into C1.
Hole 12 another hyzer, just don't hyzer out to the left or you're in a mess.
Hole 13 has been improved with a beautiful grassy fairway and clearing outrage rough right off the tee. Hit 350 on your drive downhill and 200 on your approach and get your par in the green just in the woods.
Hole 14 is a long tunnel slowly downhill. Just. Throw. Straight. Rollaways on the hilly green will kill you.
Hole 15 is an uphill straight shot through a teeny tiny gap.
Hole 16 is another uphill straight shot just longer and the green opens up.
Hole 17 is the photo op hole for sure. Throw down a green fairway across a river and try to land on the other side, where the club has constructed some nice wooden erosion controls. Do you go power back hand for the distance but hope you beat the trees or flex forehand and try to wind around them? As long as you land safely and don't kick into the rough you should be able to pick a line to approach the beautiful green on this par 4.
Hole 18 is a bit of an optical illusion. The baskets not visible, dog legging off to your left, but the length and downward slope means you really just need to throw straight down the fairway and let your disc fade towards the green. A perfect shot can get you a very special birdie but the green is guarded by a fallen log that may stymie even your best drives, and that's assuming you missed the tree in the middle of the fairway that always sends me hunting.

Coyote Hills 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 13, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Multiple Tee pads with signage at each pad with picture of hole and par. Multiple baskets on some holes. Very well maintained course. Concrete tee pads, Most level with the ground around them. Arrows under the basket pointed at next tee and lots of little signs for the long tee area if its not obvious. Discatcher baskets with hole # and A or B marked. Nice practice area for putting and also for longer shots right next to the parking lot. Fun elevation changes both up and down and lots of shaped holes both left and right doglegs.

Cons:

Its kinda in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes the long tee and the regular tees are in such different locations its possible to have 2 groups playing the same hole and not realize it until they get to the basket.

Other Thoughts:

Its a super fun course that requires a lot of accuracy to navigate long tunnel shots that do a good job of alternating right and left dog legs. Lots of blind approaches to the baskets as well add some spice. The fairways are all pretty obvious and they all lead right to the basket and there is an accurate pic of the hole at each tee box however some shots are just throw it and hope it ends up in the right spot.. It has hosted some high level tournaments as well. Recently the US Amateur Championship was hosted there.

Pros:

Great elevation change.
Multiple concrete tee pads on each hole.
Multiple pins on each hole
Challenging, long holes.
Good mix of open fields and woods.
The overall design of the holes are really cool.
Benches on most of the holes.
Trash cans on some holes.
Was very quite and peaceful.
Good parking.

Cons:

There was some variety of shots (tight vs open bombs), but the majority of the holes were tight, wooded fairways.

Other Thoughts:

It was really cool to see the bulletin board with all the events going on. It seems like this course has appreciative locals and its well maintained.

Fun, Wooded Challenge 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 18, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Coyote Hills is set in the wooded area of an otherwise solid looking park. The course winds it's way through the trees as it navigates the dense Eastern PA woods.

The holes are mostly wooded par threes, requiring accurate placement with a midrange or a fairway driver, hoping to give a look for a birdie. While not overly difficult, a single tree kick can turn a drop-in birdie into a double bogey.

The tee areas were nice, with very good concrete tee pads, and an adequate tee sign. The yellow discatchers were visible through the thick foliage.

Most of the lines that were carved out of the woods were very forgiving, as they led a path to the basket. While the lines were not the largest, they were definitely there. A few trees taken out in the future will further improve this course.

A lot of solid holes, mostly in the woods, but my favorite hole on the course was hole 6, which after a few really tight holes let me lay into a drive. The view from on top of the hill was quite picturesque.

Cons:

I played this course on a very hot, very muggy, August day. The gnats and mosquitoes were coming full force, something I wasn't too surprised to experience, but be prepared to wear bug spray.

The course plays through the woods, with well-carved out lines, as mentioned above, but the rough, is very rough. Knee high grasses and bushes and other nastiness attack your ankles, and finding a disc is difficult sometimes. Luckily, I suffered no casualties that day.

The par 3, wooded short course is one of my favorites to play, and it requires a lot of skill to score well, but it is not championship caliber. There are a few "longer" holes here, but it is not on the same page as Iron Hill, Moraine, and other top-rated wooded beasts. As much as I appreciate and love these types of courses, they are hard to rate at a high level.

Navigation was a little rough, but I kept a map up on my phone which helped in some of the stickier scenarios.

Other Thoughts:

I really appreciate what the club has done with this course, making something out of what was otherwise untapped land. The amount of work that it probably took to clear these fairways and make the course what it is today would have been astronomical, so kudos to the volunteers and designers!

Not in the summer 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 16, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice course layout with great mix of hole designs. No right or left bias.

Good signage and next tee indicators makes for easy navigation. Tee signs on both short and long pads.

Many holes with good benches.

Good use of available terrain and elevation.

Good concrete pads

A lot of time and money has been put into the trails and bridges.

Cons:

The pictures taken in the fall are misleading. The fairways are very tight and underbrush very thick. Good chance of disc lose. We only saw two other groups playing and both we looking for lost discs.

Some doglegs were very tight. Some seemed to be over 90 deg if you didn't want to risk going over the thick brush to cut the corner off fairways.

We didn't play Rec (reds) but they only had a row of pavers and no signs.

Only two hole that I felt that I could really let one go. All others I powered down / disced down to TRY (not very successfully) to stay out of the brush.

Other Thoughts:

In the fall or winter I'd possibly give this course a higher rating but when we played it the nats and deer flys are a P.I.T.A. Also the under brush is so bad if you get off the tight fairways there's no recovery. E.g. The long hole 13 requires throwing 250+ and hitting a tight fairway multiple times.

With the tight fairways and doglegs we started sending spotters down the fairway to ease disc recovery.

Overall a course worth checking out but bring your pin-point drive accuracy.

Great things can come in small packages 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 20, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Design on this course was really great in a lot of areas but there were a few mistakes here and there. The back 9 is almost flawless in my opinion and it really makes the course shine.

Beauty- Man this place is gorgeous it really didn't make me think so at first with hole 1, but it lowered my expectations just enough so that I could be blown away by some of the holes. Par 5 has one of the best views on a disc golf hole I've ever seen by the green. There's a steep ravine and 100 foot drop off 50 feet from the basket. It drops basically into a lush green meadow were I saw not one but at least 20 deer staring back at me it was an amazing disc golf moment with the mountains in the background. I'll never forget that. Also some of the greens on the back 9 are beautiful as well. I enjoyed 10, 13, and 16.

Signature holes- So many great holes at this course, The par 5 I think of first it comes at a perfect time in the round because there are a lot of par 3's that are very similar on the front 9. Hole 2, 6, 10, 16, 17

Multiple tees and a handful of holes have two baskets. Didn't have any complaints with the baskets or tees!

Tee signs Navigation- look at cons section

Fairness and Difficulty- I think on the shorts an upper level intermediate player can shoot well on as long as they are hitting gaps, the longs should good challenge to an advanced player. Only hole 9 was unfair in my opinion.

As wooded courses go I would have to say its one of my all time favorites, the lines and tunnels you have to hit, all the slight elevation and sometimes drastic makes it challenging. Also the great news is that I ran into hardly any thorns and the brush wasn't too bad when you got off the fairway.

At times this course just felt so peaceful I cant say enough how much I enjoyed my experience at Coyote Hills

Cons:

Facilities- Not much there to be honest, no obvious restrooms and water fountains, but I rushed to start my round
Navigation- Can be tricky at times but man the signs at the bottom of the baskets really helped. I ended up walking past 14's tee and down the wrong trail. Some long tee's were hard to find.
Tee signs- not a huge fan of the tee signs here.
I can overlook a lot of small things on this course because i enjoyed it so much but man there are some definite safety issues on some of the holes in this course that kept me from rating it higher.
Hole 1 don't even try to play it during a game, you may kill the left fielder with an errant drive or his parents sitting in the bleachers on the left side of the fairway. I wish they would seriously consider changing hole 1 I just see it being too risky for safety also the fairway is incredibly muddy anyway least favorite hole by far.
Hole 10 takes a long time to walk to the basket you have to go over the bridge on the creek on hole 9. Making it very possible that someone on holes 9 tee pad could hit you as you cross into their fairway.
Hole 14 I like but there is a steep drop off that goes down to a walking path its not that hard to reach the path either if you get a clean drive. Although this one is not as dangerous as the ones i mentioned earlier.

Holes I didnt like. 1 and 9 (rewards a forehand but also punishes the crap out of one that fades a hair early. More of a poke and hope in my opinion a hanging limb is making the line even hader to hit.
If i remember right there was also atleast 2-3 holes that were just straight uphill holes that were very similar. If i remember right two were on the front 9 and the other was hole 15.

Even after some of these cons it really didnt bring down my overall experience.

Other Thoughts:

Coyote Hills absolutely blew me away. I think its partly because I didn't expect much after bland and swampy hole 1, then the back 9 came and as soon as I finished playing I immediately wanted to play it again. The fun factor on this course is off the charts! My real rating is closer to a 4.25. This is the first course in PA I've ever played and it shocked me to find out that it didn't even make DGCR 1st page in top courses in PA. You got my hopes high PA keep making stunning disc golf courses. Anybody passing through the state has to check Coyote out!

Pros:

18 holes of well groomed and perfectly manicured disc golf course! Signage on every hole with arrows hanging on every basket that shows you the next tee direction. You'll need every shot in your bag on this course! There's a few ace holes and a few that will have you kicking your bag! There's a few holes that you can grip and rip but you still want to land in the fairway, cause the rough out here is exactly that....ROUGH!!! I think they got some of the rough on this course out of the movie SAW! Concrete tee pads on all holes were put in perfectly as far as construction goes. And a real friendly bunch of people out there!

Cons:

There's only really 2 cons. 1) Signage for the long tees on #6, #7 & #14, and signage for the long basket on #13 and maybe a tall flag on the long basket. Outside of that, just update the photos on this website because the ones up here are old, but that's more of a suggestion than a cons.

Other Thoughts:

These guys did an awesome job on a course that's only 4 years old. Hole #1 has 2 baskets and is a open hole. #2 has 2 tee pads and is narrow and is a dog leg left. #3 is a very short dog leg right with the pin nestled in front of a OB creek and a little hill in front of the pin, tricky but ace-able! #4, nasty little hole, narrow uphill tee shot with the tree master and his army of trees in the fairway making your 2nd shot interesting and the pin in down a short steep hill, think twice before chasing that putt! #5 is a short dog leg right going uphill, birdie chance! #6 is wide open and slightly down hill except for the cell tower that is fenced in and then green is backed up to a OB propoerty line. #7 is short and begging to be aced with OB after the bridge and the long tee is still acea-able but there trees that will crush your ace dreams! #8 has 2 paths to take with the basket in a elevated box, personally my favorite hole, #9 is an uphill dog leg right with skinny tree branches littered through your tee shot, the rough is jail on this hole. #10 you'll need to thread the needle, slight dog leg right that bends right back left to the basket that is guarded by a half moon of bushes. #11 is a slight dog leg left with trees dotting the basket. #12 is adog leg left on the power lines that if throw right is nice but the rough is from the movie SAW! #13 is open and long, short basket to the right in the woods and the long basket is past the second set of power line poles on the left, stay in the fairway, more saw rough on the left! #14 is a cool hole that flows down a gravel road with the basket up on a med hill, a nice "s" turn throw will do you right, from the long tee on this hole is through the woods with the tree gods standing guard. #15 is a short uphill straight hole with some threadage. #16 is narrow and tight off the tee and the basket is guarded by bushes and trees but then open up to an open green. #17 is and semi straight with a valley that has a OB creek and then shoots straight up hill to the basket with trees sprinkled throughout the hole, #18 is a slight dog leg left with a slight bottle neck of tree at the turn and the basket is guarded by a downed tree.
Overall I really like this course and will drag my buddies up there to play it again! A job well done by those who built and maintain the course!

Excellent signage. Course plays through some great terrain and will force you to play a technical game. Many of the holes are short and make for easy birdies. A few hole when thrown correctly are designed for an ace.

Cons:

The cell tower fenced in area is a burden as it is on one of the most open holes.

Wiley E. Coyote's Doglegs 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 20, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice concrete tees and signage and Discatcher baskets. Decent navigation with two loops of 9 holes back to parking lot. Excellent use of the elevation and space. Nice variety of lines and distances to hit. Really enjoyed holes 1, 2, 6, 8, 17, and 18. Disc golf only area of park.

Cons:

Nothing major that should keep anyone from playing. Single concrete tees and single basket positions(except hole 1 has two baskets). The rough is still fairly rough with brush and some poison ivy. Biting flies in summer. No bathroom.

Other Thoughts:

Overall Coyote Hills is a very good course, I absolutely loved the first and last few holes as they are pro caliber. I'd rate the course 3.75 if I could. This maybe just be my preference and cup of tea, but many of holes in the middle reminds me of Wiley E Coyote using Acme products to try and catch the Roadrunner that end up backfiring like on the short dogleg holes and couple holes that have tight winding fairways with bad rough. Those holes just seemed to lack much fun factor and re-playablilty for me but that's just like my opinion man.

I did what the reviewer below me did and followed my GPS to the road with the closed bridge. Call an audible, orange barrel re-route to get to the park. I wouldn't necessarily go too far out of the way to seek out, but Coyote Hill is one of the best courses in the area, so I'd recommend playing it as a good fix in the area.

Great course, easy access from turnpike 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 3, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great disc golf course close to the turnpike. Definitely worth the trip.

The course is very pretty and winds through a very picturesque park with evergreen and deciduous woods and a creek. Average recreational players like myself can get many birdies here. The drives are somewhat technical with the trees and turns (majority of drives are right and left doglegs), but mostly short.

Great signage and directions to the next tee. It is difficult to lose your way with arrows on every basket pointing to the next tee.

The tees are concrete and of varied size. Some tees are very short, but so are the distances to the pin. Originally going to put it as a con but the small tees were fine for those baskets. One hole (10? something around there) has a choice of a hyzer or anhyzer line and the tee is widened and pointed in both directions. Neat idea although not necessary (does anyone actually take that anhyzer route here? seems a little out-of-the-way).

Tall poles with flags on the out-of-view baskets. It is a nice touch.

Care was obviously taken in putting this course together.

Cons:

A few shots in the back 9 that were not very memorable.

Lots of thorns in the rough.

A few short holes, but I thought they worked well and were all tight lines -- hit it right and you had a birdie, but these were hard to bogie. Not really a con, just worth mentioning.

Other Thoughts:

Worth the trip -- stop here off the turnpike at the Carlisle exit. The route my GPS took me was blocked by a closed bridge -- don't take Wolfs Creek road (or something like that) from the turnpike like your GPS tells you.

Now I know the easy way to get here from the turnpike, I will make this a stop when driving through PA. You can do 18 pretty quickly and be back on your way, 5 minutes to and from 76.

[EDIT 11/5/13: I am updating to 4 stars in view of my thoughts on this since playing. The course was just so nice and well kept that I thought it was merited...definitely the 4 stars if a few very short holes don't turn you off, and if you can get past 2 or so weak ones]

More changes for the better 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 25, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great variety of hole designs. Long vs Short, Open vs Wooded, Left vs Right, Up vs Down.

Hole One has two baskets in place. The long position is a true par 4. It's tough to choose whitch to play for so, I suggest playing the course twice and playing both positions.

There are nice big concrete tee pads on the "white" tees. There are "red" tees on many holes. These are grass tees marked with red concrete blocks. There is a longer "blue" tee on hole two but, I'm not sure if anyone actually uses it. The concrete is so much better to throw from.

Cons:

Players are asked to play from the "red" tee on hole one if people are using the baseball field.

The Fenced in area on hole six can be a problem for out of towners. The discs will be retrieved periodically however getting them back to people from afar can be an issue.

Other Thoughts:

Two more bridges have been added to the course making it much easier to get across the small amounts of casual water on the course.

Wow...challengeing 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 4, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

very well designed. no holes overlap each other. you really feel like you're alone out there on a long hike. this course pulls no punches. plenty of elevation changes, tunnel shots, left to right, right to left, up to down, and down to up and back down again....you get the point. you have short holes...and one MONSTER of a par 5. love love love this course.

Cons:

NOT a beginner course. the rough is ROUGH!!!! but it is a new course, and the rough will eventually thin with player trails retrieving discs...lord knows i made a few of my own. also because this is a new course, the thorns are bad. a few holes dont reward great shots, but will PUNISH poor choices. i think it was hole 17 or 18 where my disc was 15 feet from the basket...and my disc was near unplayable due to a lack of a "green" again....the course is new...and will be tweaked, and beaten in so i cant knock it so bad

Other Thoughts:

i will come back to this course for SURE!!! very memorable. put this on your list!!

Excellent Work 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 20, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Concrete Tees completed in all holes. Arrows on the bottom of each basket tells you which way to head next, and there's usually a nice "pathway" to the next tee area. Challenging course.

Cons:

Woods, woods, woods. The woods is not the problem, but some holes have a very narrow driving area, unless you can throw straight, you'll hit some trees. Bridges to go over the creek not completed as of today.

Other Thoughts:

Nice hike! It is challenging with the woods, and hiking up and down hills, very good lay out. Can't wait for the bridges to be completed so there will be a little less mud on my shoes next time. There are some branches and logs laid across for now, but you'll still get mud.

Good, but some tweaks needed 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 26, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Primarily wooded course featured in a nice township park in Carlisle. A practice basket and mailbox with scorecards/map are available as you enter the parking lot by hole 1. Numbered Innova Disc Catcher baskets and good sized cement tee pads installed at each hole. Good signs. White arrows affixed to the bottom of each basket and worn in paths make navigation simple. Good variety, excellent use of elevation and a small creek on the premises. Some cool holes- #2 fish hook, #6 open field downhill hyzer, #7 across a creek to basket on other side, and #8 elevated pin atop railroad ties stand out. Hole 17, a slight downhill shot through trees and over two low wooden fences to a basket perched up on a hill, is the most picturesque hole on the course.

Cons:

Several holes are too tight off the fairway. Despite its distance, I am not a fan of hole 13. Either you drive 300 feet straight off the tee or you're totally screwed, with oppressive rough in front of the tee and off to the left at the bottom of the hill. The fairway itself is gravel and shale- hardly an ideal circumstance, especially on a hole of this length. And the approach from 75-100 feet away from hole 2 basket is entirely too small, with a player having to thread one of two small openings to get there.

Other Thoughts:

The Middlesex Township DG Course goes above and beyond what one might expect at a township park. This course is good and has the potential to be VERY good. It is laid out well, has good flow and with few exceptions doesn't really interfere with other park users. It is a worthy venue with plenty of challenge and much work has obviously been done here. With all that said, I feel parts of this course are unfair. No fewer than 5-6 holes are entirely too tight off the tee. Worse yet, Some safe landing areas in the middle of those same fairways present no reasonable 2nd shot to the basket (Holes 10 and 14 come to mind). Taking out a small tree or two here and there would go a long way. Despite these criticisms, Coyote Hills presents plenty of challenge and should be visited on a player's foray into this area of PA.

Coyote Hills DGC 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 23, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

18 holes with nice discatchers and concrete tee pads.

Maps, scorecards, and pencils were available at the start.

Moderately wooded with some elevation changes and one basket that was in a raised box.

Navigation was not too bad, but you do need the map.

Cons:

No tee signs on most tees. Map is needed for navigation.

More than half of the holes were blind shots and towards the end there were no real lines, just a chuck through the trees and pray.

No signature holes, no hole made me want to throw a second disc. I felt I had seen all this course had to offer by hole 10.

Several times I had to cross water and there was no way to cross. I am not sure if this was due to flooding, but 3 times I had to wade through shin deep water to finish the hole.

Hole 6 has a large tower surrounded by barbed wire, I saw several discs trapped behind the barb wire fence unable to be retrieved by their owners.

Several of the holes seem like they would eat discs in the summer when the foliage is in full force, such as 12 and 13.

Tee for 11 is behind basket 8, which makes it easy to skip holes 9 and 10, which I should have since both holes required me to again wade in shin deep water to complete the hole.

Other Thoughts:

There was a porto-potty and a soda machine on the other end of the parking lot by the pool.

The main road to get to the course was flooded and much of the course had water that probably would not normally be underwater.
The trails between holes provided pretty nice scenery.

I did not know this course was only a month old, it is a nice course for being so new, I am sure many improvements are coming.
